  • How can I fix my vista PCs screen resolution and refresh rate

    I have a media PC running media portal hooked up to my HDTV via HDMI. The TV is a couple of years old now, so only supports 1080i, which is 1920x1080@25Hz. I've got it connected to my PC via a HDMI compatible AV receiver. If I power up the amp (wait for it to boot fully) followed by the TV| and finally the PC, all is well and I get a picture. If I deviate from that sequence, or don't wait for the amp to book up fully, or even switch the amp to another video input (for example, my PS3). The PC sees this and defaults the screen resolution/refresh rate to 1920x1080@60Hz. So, I end up with a blank screen. To fix this I have to use UltraVNC from a PC and change the refresh rate back to 25Hz. So, is there a way to turn off that auto detection, or to manually define what resolution/refresh rates the monitor can do. I'm using the on-board Radeon 3200 video and do not have any of the AMD software installed as it seems to cause problems with video playback. So, I'm looking for a native vista fix, or possible some 3rd party software.

  • How can I split 200Mbps of streaming traffic into routers?

    As the title says, I have 200Mbps of streaming video traffic coming into my command center. How do I split the load between routers? Setup is like this: fiber --- router --- switch --- workstations I'm sorry I haven't dealt with this much traffic before. so please be gentle if you're going to kick me out :) EDITED FOR DETAILS: Okay, this specific project is for our company's IP CCTV system. We have deployed over 100++ cameras all over a building/campus and we have estimated each camera to take about 2Mbps of bandwidth each. Now, they're all connected to a switch and that's entirely fine. But coming into our command center, they have to be on a router since it'll get more than 200++ cameras next year (and I don't want to have too many hosts on one subnet). My plan was to have the 1st hundred on a 172.16.9.x block and the 2nd hundred on a 172.16.10.x block (all /24). The servers I have are currently sized to match (about 5 dual 6-core xeons) and I'd have about 19 workstations all streaming video from the 5 servers. (servers pull video from the cameras). But 200Mbps of constant traffic? How the hell do I even break this up? I need to have 1 gateway, to manage the routes... I honestly think I'm way in over my head.

  • LG W3000H-BN monitor cannot go above 1280x800

    I noticed that there are many people complaining about this issue with the W3000H but I have yet to find a solution that works for me. I am using Windows 7 Professional and and using a nVidia Quadro NVS 240 video card with a 4 monitor splitter cable. The cable from the monitor and the splitter are rated DVI-D Dual Link and the video card itself is rated for 2560x1600. I have installed the latest drivers for the video card and just grabbed the .inf, icm and cat file from the LG website and manually installed the monitor drivers. Does anyone have problems with the same setup? I have 3 other monitors (2 at 1920x1080 and 1 at 1280x1024). I really would like to be able to display the full resolution or else the large screen is useless. (I triple checked that the monitor itself supports this resolution). So monitor, cable, splitter and card supposedly support 2560x1600. Drivers are up to date but I cannot select that resolution when in the "Screen Resolution" menu, nor through the nVidia control panel. Please save me from madness :)

  • Constant crashes in windows 7 64bit when playing games

    I've tried everything I can possibly think of in trying to fix this problem and I'm totally out of ideas, so any help would be appreciated: The problem: whenever I fire up a game, it works for a short while with no problems and then it would crash. Either its a hard crash, forcing me to reboot, or windows would report that the display driver has stopped working and recovered. Here is a list of things I've already tried: Drivers - tried the latest drivers (catalyst 9.12) as well as the stock drivers that came with the video card. Also have the latest BIOS/chipset Memtest - Ran Memtest86+ overnight, had no problems, the windows diagnostic tool also does not find any problems. Overheating - Video card/cpu temperatures are well below peak (42 and 31 Celsius receptively) PSU Voltage - CPUID shows that the voltage levels are all above what they should be. The PSU itself is only roughly 16 months old and is a good model. HDD - No errors when checked GPU - Brand new (replaced previous card since I thought it was the problem, apparently not) Overclocking - Everything is at stock levels, memory voltage is set to manufacturer's standard Specs: Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro CPU: Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 ghz OS: Windows 7 home premium 64 bit Memory: Mushkin Enhanced 4GB DDR2 GPU: Sapphire HD 5850 1GB PSU: SeaSonic M12 600W ATX12V DirectX: DX11 Event Viewer after a crash always has these logged: A fatal hardware error has occurred.   • How do I stop panning on a monitor that supports a specific resolution?

    Hi all, I've been battling this for a few days now. Any and all help is appreciated. I have a planar monitor with a native res of 1280x1024. At one point, I had used PowerStrip to override "something" and set the res to 1600x1200, and it worked great. I then installed new intel graphics drivers for my 86895g (or w/e model) video card, which screwed up whatever settings I had. If I set it to 1600x1200 this time, it would set the res correctly, but give me a 1280x1024 viewport and the screen would pan when the mouse got to the edges of the screen. Absolutely not useful. Ok, so I was limited to 1280x1024 now. W/e. Now...enter new video card with two video ports. I have two monitors now and the latest nVidia drivers. I decide to try to get dual 1600x1200 going...ended up screwing the original monitor up so much now that it's at 1280x1024, with a 1024x768 viewport and panning! Absolutely not usable now. So what I need, and I can't seem to find on any forums, is help doing one or more of the following: Clearing out all monitor/edid info out of the windows registry without corrupting the registry. Actually correctly override the EDID values and get my sweet res back. Some other way of getting back to at least dual 1280x1024 with NO panning. Note: My device manager shows 4 monitors for some reason. My registry shows entries for all sorts of monitors that have been hooked up to the machine over the years. It's making it difficult to debug. Experience with PowerStrip would be helpful. I've been mucking with Phoenix EDID designer and MonInfo as well, but I'm stumbling around in the dark with these.   • 2 subnets off of 1 PC with 2 NICs

    I have a general setup I'd like to do with some IP cameras. This seems like it will work but I think I may be missing something. Our system consists of a video recorder PC connected to a switch which is connected to a number of IP cameras. I'd like to connect this system into an existing network but I want it on a different subnet. The main reason is that the cameras use a lot of bandwidth that I don't want slowing down the existing network. My idea was to install 2 NICs on the video recorder pc. 1 NIC connects to the existing network on 192.169.1.x for example, and the other NIC connect to the switch with the cameras. This NIC would be 192.168.100.x. Then we could remote to the video recorder PC with a GoToMyPC type thing for administration via the existing network. I've included a diagram of how I see this working but I'm a little fuzzy on the setup of the NICs (if this can work at all). My problem may be trying to deal with 2 subnets without a router but It really doesn't seem like it's necessary in this situation. BTW, gliffy is cool.

  • How do I install a different OS on a Compaq Presario cq56 with preinstalled SuSE 11?

    Thing is, I don't have a clue of Linux systems, I usually use WinXP. Bought a notebook with SuSE 11 on it, because I have my XP licence and thought I could install that if I found the chipset drivers for the hardware (which I'm not completely sure I have the right versions of). Then I thought I'd give it a shot with the SuSE, looked nice enough. But I can't get my external hd to work (tried force mount) and the banshee doesn't do anything like playing video. Since that is one of the two main purposes of this notebook, I need to get that to work. Tried downloading VLC player, but that only works with SuSE 11.1 upwards. So I downloaded a SuSE 11.3 and burned the iso. But surprise, no way the notebook would boot from cd. Same with the XP cd (considered setting up a dual boot). And no, I can't get to BIOS to reset to default, either. So I can basically do nothing else than going online with this thing and that's not enough for me (gamer in withdrawal, yikes!). I need at least to get to my firefox profile on the external hd and be able to watch video. Can somebody please help me? I think at this point I'd prefer to install XP and MAYBE the SuSE 11.3 after that. I'm not a native speaker, so please speak plainly, thanks. :) Edit: if this is impossible, could someone please help me with the external hd mount and video playback? Edit: Found out how to boot from cd by now. But still no XP, because I get bluescreen after bluescreen while setup is loading files. I guess it's the missing SATA drivers...

    I am trying to create a karaoke from a CD+G file (converted to AVI using FFmpeg) and add a video as a background of the lyrics. I haven't used FFmpeg much and I'm not really sure if what I want to achieve is possible with FFmpeg. Is it possible to overlay two videos, and add a transparency to one of the videos? In this case the colour black? How can I set the offset time of the lyrics.avi?   • ESXi 5 Guests will not boot

    I have a problem with Guests not booting under VMWare ESXi 5.0 on my IBM x3550M3 server. Note: Investigation eventually determined that problem was with the VMware client on a Lenovo Edge laptop, the only Windows box available in a Linux IT shop. vSphere Client v4 and v5 duplicated behavior on the Lenovo Edge. As indicated in the comment to the accepted answer, replacing the workstation with one using different video was the "fix" for this particular issue. The ESXi host boots just fine. The Client connects just fine. Guests can be configured but do not successfully boot. The initial guest memory consumption jumps up to 560MB and drops down to 40MB after a few seconds. Initial CPU usage is 1 full CPU (3000Ghz per the chart) and immediately drops downm to 29Mhz. Guests do not display any output in the Console tab but show a state of 'Powered On'. No errors in the Events tab. Switching Guest from BIOS to EFI makes no difference. VMs are listed as Version 7 and the behavior is duplicated across all availabled Guest OS flavors. Problem also duplicated when server is booted up in Legacy Only mode. Logs do not contain anything particularly suspicious. Edit: No firewalls, routers, or VLANs in between the client and server. Edit 2: We have tried to Boot Guest into BIOS screen at Next Boot checkbox in the Guest Setting. Was not successful. Edit 3: 500GB datastore with 1 40GB VM on it. Plenty of space. Edit 4: Guests copied from my old ESXi 4 server DO NOT boot on the ESXi 5 system. Initially it complains about too little Video RAM being configured for the default 2500x1600, but it still doesn't work properly even after I bump the Video RAM settings or switch it to Auto-Detect.

  • Windows Explorer Hangs on Right-Click

    I am not sure if this is the right site to post this one as I typically post coding questions on stackoverflow. But I'll ask anyways and hopefully someone can move it if it's incorrect. Currently I have a customer built PC, utilizing an Intel i7 chip, 1300WATT PSU, 8Gigs of RAM, and two video cards. Originally I had the one video card (NVIDIA) that used the PSU and had two DVI output. After purchasing a third monitor I installed another ATI) graphics card not needed any PSU connectors. After installing and restarting, I noticed that when I right-click on my desktop, or through Windows Explorer it will hang, freeze then restarted. Sometimes after Windows Explorer restarts the problem dissipates. I checked to make sure everything was connected properly and it was. I repaired the ATI Catalyst Control Center to see if that had an issue, and I checked to see if either video card required updated drivers. Nothing worked. I tried restarting my PC and that didn't work. I tried using ShellXView (I forgot what it's actually called) and tried closed processes but that didn't work. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this orpossible solutions I should try?< Thanks in advance.

    I have a Gateway M275 Tablet PC, on which I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate. The laptop is quite old, so there aren't any Win7 drivers for it, not to mention any Vista drivers. Win7 has been working for some time, but I noticed that my video output wasn't working. I went into Device Manager and found that I didn't have a driver for my video card: it just recognized it as the standard one. I searched online and found an XP driver for it, released by Gateway. Device Manager accepted this driver and prompted me to reboot. After that, I noticed that my Sleep and Hibernate options in the Shut Down menu have been grayed-out. I looked online and found that many people are attributing this to display drivers, as such an old driver would surely not be compatible with the standby procedures Windows 7 uses. To make it clear: I was able to Sleep and Hibernate before updating the drivers; now, I can't. Running powercfg /a gives me, "An internal system component has disabled this standby state," for each available standby mode. Is there some way that the driver can be modified to support hibernation? The new driver fixed my video output problem, but I guess hibernation is more important for me. If not, what steps should I take to remove the driver and just leave the standard Windows one, which previously supported hibernation and sleep on this computer? Thanks in advance.

    I've got a serious problem which drives me crazy because I tried everything I could think of. When using a USB-to-Serial interface everything works as long as I don't go beyond 57600 Baud. I tried differtent OSes (Ubuntu, WinXP, Win7, OSX 10.7) with 32 and 64 Bit. I tried USB-to-Serial interface from FTDI and Prolific. I tried reading the output from my Raspberry PI and from an Asterisk Appliance. I changed the cables and the wiring. Nothing helped. In the video I made a example with a old Notebook with native COM and put the USB-to-Serial to the same connection as "sniffer" (only Rx and GND connected) to make sure the output and everything is ok as one can see on the native port. The voltage is ok. Settings for both are 115200 Baud, 8 Bit with 1 Stop and no flow control. Native is ok. USB is messed up. I used the newest drivers and double checked all connections. I have no idea what is wrong here. As I couldn't find anyone describing problems like this I question my long experiance in computer science and think I'm doing some completly wrong... Please help :-/

  • Intel HD Graphics vs NVIDIA Quadro FX 380 PCI-E

    I recently purchased an Acer Veriton which has an i5-650 processor, Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) and Intel HD Graphics listed as the video card. I also purchased a PNY nVIDIA Quadro FX 380 PCI-E card for improved picture and home video viewing and editing. I have already replaced the original 300 wattt power supply to a 430 watt Antec Truepower I had on hand and boosted the RAM to 8 gigs from the original 4. Question 1) Am I getting any improvement in visual quality or system speed with the Quadro or is it a waste of money and I should just save up to buy a bigger video card? This card was on sale for $115. If I am getting improvement then I need to ask another question. Question 2) Instructions for the Quadro installation are as follows... 1--Uninstall the existing VGA driver. -Remove the existing Display Driver via "Add or Remove Porgrams". -Shut down your computer. 2--Remove your Existing Graphics Board (or Disable Integrated 3D Graphics Controller). skipping instructions on how to remove existing graphics board -Systems with integrated (also know as on-board) 3D graphics may require you to disable the integrated 3D graphics system. Consult the owners or vendor manual that came with your PC on how to properly do this. So is the Intel HD Graphics considered a 3D graphics controller? If so should I just contact Acer or can anyone give me instructions? Thanks in advance for any help.

    I recently purchased an Intel D2700 MUD motherboard and I cannot find drivers for the Win7 x64 integrated graphics (Intel GMA 3650 aka PowerVR sgs545). The accompanying CD contains Win7 x32 version only. When I run it I got an error: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. I tried to use online utility Intel Driver Update Utility Graphics. I used Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer without success. First, UAC prompt appear, and then endlessly spinning progress-bar with text "Analyzing computer...". The text in UAC prompt is: Program file name: System Requirements Lab Verified publisher: Husdawg, LLC I downloaded this utility (intel_srldetect_4.5.5.0) and started it from my hard disk. I got an error: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file: C:\Users\Loom\Downloads\SystemRequirementsLab_intel_4.5.5.0.msi Standard VGA driver works for this video card but without hardware acceleration: Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on. Where I can get appropriate driver?

  • Can anyone help me make my reverse proxy actually cache?

    Hi folks, I'm trying to configure a Reverse Caching Proxy but so far have had no luck. I would preferrably like to use apache (that will be all it will be used for), but am open to solutions using other software that can also run on Mac OS X 10.6 (I have also tried using Varnish and Squid, but with no more luck). We're running a system with about 80 mac mini clients that will be requesting lots of video from a server. To reduce load, we thought we could use Apache (which comes on the macs by default) to cache this video forever (or at least as long as possible) onto the macs' disks. I have managed to get a reverse proxy set up with apache using ProxyPass etc, but when i tried to add CacheEnable disk / to the configuration, nothing happened (i do have mod_disk_cache included). Can anyone help with my issue? The apache config file is here Thanks in advance Edit: So far I have been testing it with smaller text files, and it hasn't been caching properly. This suggests it is nothing to do with us actually downloading video, but actually to do with the cache configuration.

    Hello, I have a camera by Cisco and like to stream it's video stream to my android phone. It's coded in MPEG4 so there should be no problem, but it's not working anymore (it worked with another camera a few weeks ago). Any idea what I might try ? I don't know what's wrong here.     I have an ASP.NET application that I need to show a video feed from a security camera. The video feed has a content type of 'multipart/x-mixed-replace; boundary=--myboundary' with the image data between the boundaries. I need assistance with passing that stream of data through to my page so that the client side plugin I have can consume the stream just as it would if I browsed to the camera's web interface directly.   • WPF Memory Leak

    I have an WPF form that I myself did not create, so I am not very good at WPF. It is leaking badly though, up to 400 MB and closing the form does not help. The problem lies in my application loading all the pictures at once. I would like to only load the ones visible at the moment. It is about 300 pictures and they are a bit large so my WPF-form suffers from loading them all. I have a DataTemplate with my own type that has a property Thumbnail. The code in the template is like this: <Image Source="{Binding Path=Thumbnail}" Stretch="Fill"/> And then I have a grid with a control that has the above template as source. The code for this control is the below.   • UIModalPresentationFormSheet and MPMoviePlayer on iPhone/iPad OS 3.2?

    I have a UIModalPresentationFormSheet which has a movie player inside of it. When the user hits the button to play it in full screen, my UIModalPresentationFormSheet is still there ontop of the video while it's playing in full screen, behind the window and behind the shadow. What do I need to do to get rid of the dim so the video is playing in fullscreen with being able to select buttons and not having an annoying dim ontop of it?

    Is there a way to manipulate movies in iphone in a way I can have, for example, the exact timecode in realtime of a movie being played? or the timecode of a movie being scrubbed? And, btw, there's a way to scrub a video like the video edit mode of iPhone 3GS? Can you guys pinpoint me a way to follow, if any? thanks for any help.
