I want to make a java application software which give the current status/information of the running computer. So, for this, is there any inbuilt/extrnal library present or not?
Can anyone give a simple code which will just. "What is the current status of laptop battery?" or "Is AC adapter is pluged in or not?"
Please help me.
I am about to start developing an Android application and had a question if in Java there self naming. For instance say I had a variable named dog that held the value of scruffy.
Could I then create a variable named scruffy from that variable. In PHP it would be $$dog. That would make a variable with the name scruffy.
If this is possible please provide example

If I wanted a single word that meant "conforming to Java language conventions", what would that be? Python has the term "pythonic". Would it be "javaish"?
This question showed up on my mid-term exams and I've been searching for correct answer for some time. I know that Java interfaces can't be directly instantiated so they don't need constructors and that they can have only public static final attributes so they don't need constructors to set them up but that's not the expected answer.
Hey guys;

More of a wiki list/collection, I'm looking for a list of good Java desktop apps. I've added a couple below to get started. Please list the framework/widget toolkit being used if it's know as well.
I have created a Java Swing application. It works fine.
I have created application file (.app) for that application using jar bundler.
But the main problem is that my application does not open if I click it on the Dock. I am using Mac OS. How I can launch my application by clicking on Dock
Thanks

Hello.
I develop application with Java.
I need to store some initial configuration data in some kind of file.
I want my app to be able to read this data, but I don't want user to do so.
Example : application loads IP from encrypted file. User sees like "dsda@#21da@" so he won't bother doing anything :)
How should I do such a thing?
Thanx!
I've found that java.lang.Ingteger implementation of compareTo method looks as follows:
public int compareTo(Integer anotherInteger) {
int thisVal = this.value;
int anotherVal = anotherInteger.value;
return (thisVal<anotherVal ? -1 : (thisVal==anotherVal ? 0 : 1));
}
The question is why use comparison instead of subtraction:
return thisVal - anotherVal;
I have line in JAVA and in while i get number:
i = gzipinputstream1.read(abyte0, j, 4096);
From while number:
959
1552
1577
1617
1680
when i want use in php:
$i = fread($handle, 959):
while return:
959,
959,
959,
5
How make that in PHP result will be the some. thanks
Hi,
I have a lot of experience in C and Python, but I'd like to pick up some Java. I was curious if there was a "quick and dirty" guide tailored for people with previous CS background. I'd prefer free online resources but appreciate any suggestion.
Thanks,
Brian
Hi,
I would like to open a webpage and run a javascript function from within a java app.
For example I would like to open the page www.mytestpage.com and run the following javascript code:document.getElementById("txtEmail").value="[email protected]";submit();void(0);
This works in a browser...how can I do it programatically?
Thanks!
Hi,
I would like to know if its possible to deploy java class files without restarting JBoss server. I am using jboss v4.2.2.
Also, when I try to deploy jsp files, it works fine and server picks up the changes almost instantly.
Thanks a lot in advance :)
What JAVA library should I be using to Hash passwords for storage in a database?
I was hoping to just take the plain text password, add a random salt, then store the salt and the hashed password in the database.
Then when a user wanted to log in, I could just take their submitted password, add the random salt from their account information, hash it and see if it equates to the stored hash password with their account information.
How to/What is a good library, to create a fading indicator message in Java like that of Outlook when you get a message, or Ubuntu/Gnome when you've connected to a network?
Consider following SWT code example:
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/org.eclipse.swt.snippets/src/org/eclipse/swt/snippets/Snippet151.java?view=co
How can I separate the inline defined class?
Thread thread = new Thread() {
public void run() {
...
}
};
I want to define a separate class which updates the table just like it does here. How do I pass the list back to the table? Example code?
I'm in the process of weeding out all hardcoded values in a java library and was wondering what framework would be the best (in terms of zero- or close-to-zero configuration) to handle run-time configuration? I would prefer xml-based config-files, but it's not essential.
Please do only reply if you have practical experience with a framework. I'm not looking for examples, but experience... Thanks for taking the time.
A while ago I developed a little LAN chat app. in Java which allows chatting with other hosts, send images, etc. Although it was created just for fun, now it's being used where I work.
Currently, there is no "chat server" on the app. where each client registers, updates it's status, etc. (I liked the idea of symmetric design and not depending on a server running on some other machine).
Instead, each host is a client/server which has a hosts.properties file with the hostname of the other hosts, and - for instance - broadcasts to each one of them when sending a massive message/image/whatever.
In the beginning there were just a couple of hosts, so this hosts.properties file wasn't an issue. But as the amount of users increased, the need of updating that file was a bit daunting. So now I've decided to get rid of it, and each time the app. starts, dynammically find the other active hosts.
However, I cannot find the correct way of implement this. I've tried starting different threads, each one of them searching for other hosts in a known range of IP addresses. Something like this (simplified for the sake of readability):
/** HostsLocator */
public static void searchForHosts(boolean waitToEnd) {
for (int i=0; i < MAX_IP; i+= MAX_IP / threads) {
HostsLocator detector = new HostsLocator(i, i+(MAX_IP / threads - 1)); // range: from - to
new Thread(detector).start();
}
}
public void run() {
for (int i=from; i<=to; i++)
findHosts( maskAddress + Integer.toString(i) );
}
public static boolean findHosts(String IP) {
InetAddress address = InetAddress.getByName(IP);
if ( address.isReachable(CONNECTION_TIME_OUT) )
// host found!
}
However:
With a single thread and a low value in CONNECTION_TIME_OUT (500ms) I get wrong Host Not Found status for for hosts actually active.
With a high value in CONNECTION_TIME_OUT (5000ms) and only one single thread takes forever to end
With several threads I've also found problems similar like the first one, due to collisions.
So... I guess there's a better way of solving this problem but I couldn't find it. Any advice? Thanks!
Hi there,
is it possible to access a shadowed field of an enclosing class from the enclosed one in Java?
public class Inherit {
public int a = 3;
private int b = 5;
public class Inheriting {
public int a = 23;
private int d = 8;
public void f() {
System.out.println("Here I want to get a = 3");
...
}
}
}
Cheers!
