  • Cache an FTP connection via session variables for use via AJAX?

    I'm working on a Ruby web Application that uses the Net::FTP library. One part of it allows users to interact with an FTP site via AJAX. When the user does something, and AJAX call is made, and then Ruby reconnects to the FTP server, performs an action, and outputs information. Every time the AJAX call is made, Ruby has to reconnect to the FTP server, and that's slow. Is there a way I could cache this FTP connection? I've tried caching in the session hash, but "We're sorry, but something went wrong" is displayed, and a TCP dump is outputted in my logs whenever I attempt to store it in the session hash. I haven't tried memcache yet. Any suggestions?

  • WindowsPhone App data connection FAILS in MarketPlace published App but WORKS in Visual Studio development (same XAP)

    Tearing my hair out(!) My last App update has been accepted and released by MarketPlace but the remote server data connection does NOT work/connect from the downloaded App (from MarketPlace). However, the same App (the accepted XAP) when I'm running it from Visual Studio, using the same remote server address works just fine. WHY!... Has anyone else ever run into anything like this? Here's the remote path: http://www.streamcommunication.com/ZenAwaken/DownloadableCollections.xml I can load that to a browser and retrieve the XML When I'm in Visual Studio I can connect via that path and retrieve the file and consume the data BUT!! The exact same XAP which has been accepted and distributed by Windows Phone marketplace FAILS. Is it possible that MarketPlace does something (encryption?) to the XAP that would corrupt the path string? Any thoughts or experiences would be very helpful! Tom

  • Has anyone ever bought an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0?

    I would like to run a WSS 3.0 that is exposed to the internet and provides access to an arbitrary number of users through forms-based authentication. If the WSS licensing is analogous to that of MOSS, then there should be some special licensing required to make this legitimate. I have seen several vague statements on the internet about an "Internet Connection" license for WSS 3.0, and some more general statements from Mike Walsh to the effect that it costs "around $2000." But I have never seen anything official about this, and I'm not sure if I am even using the correct terminology. Has anyone actually purchased something resembling this license?

    I am using jdbc to connect to a postgresql database in a java application (actually the app is written in Groovy). I have postgresql set up to use the 'trust' authentication method. Is it possible to open a jdbc connection without specifying a password? When I try to use the normal constructor with a blank password, it fails with Exception in thread "Thread-2" org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "myuser" Even though, from the command line, this works fine psql -U myuser mydatabase Welcome to psql 8.3.5, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal.   • How can I get the "Latency" of a process that has a TCP connection open?

    Hello, I am looking to get the "Latency" field of a TCP connection. I notice windows Resource Monitor has this field, and I was wondering if there was a way I can find it. Preferrably without using WMI. If you are unsure what field I am talking about, open Task Manager, goto the Performance tab and hit the Resource Monitor button. Once Resource Monitor is open, expand the TCP Connections area and you will see a Latency field. Is there anyway to access this programatically? Thanks!

  • How do I fix my VM's network connection if it seems to be running ok from the host?

    I have a virtual machine (made with vmware) with a linux ubuntu os installed on it (i have a series of them), with NAT network connection - i am running vmware on Windows XP (my host system); the virtual machine can't connect to the internet. All the vmware services seem to be working fine from windows point of view, but inside the machine i can't connect to the internet. What is strange is that the virtual machine was able to use the internet some time ago, but all of a sudden, i just can't use my internet on the virtual machine - i have made no changes to the settings, nor in windows, nor in the virtual machine - so i don't understand.

    Hi! I toyed around with .load() and .ajax(), but i didn't get to an end. Here's what I need: Everey minute the function shall check if it can load a certain page. if the connection succeeds, I want the page to be refreshed, if not, nothing shall happen, the script shall retry later.   • Java: Anyone know of a library that detects the quality of an internet connection?

    I know a simple URLConnection to google can detect if I am connected to the internet, after all I am confident that the internet is all well and fine If I cant connect to google. But what I am looking for at this juncture is a library that can measure how effective my connection to the internet is in terms of BOTH responsiveness and bandwidth available. BUT, I do not want to measure how much bandwidth is potentially available as that is too resource intensive. I really just need to be able to test wether or not I can recieve something like X kB's in Y amount of time. Does such a library already exist?

    Hi folks - Just wondering if beginning a new transaction in Hibernate actually allocates a connection to the DB? I'm concerned b/c our server begins a new transaction for each request received, even if that request doesn't interact with the DB. How can I create an instance of a json object locally for testing?     Hi, I just created a new widget by following a tutorial. I created a zip containing all files and renamed it to HelloWorld.wgt instead of HelloWorld.zip. I sent it to my phone via Bluetooth, but when I try to open the wgt file on my phone it says it can't open it, because it doesn't know the filetype.   • How to create tunnel to utilize for telnet connection.

    The scenario is as follows: Machine A is located behind client firewall. The machine runs telnetd. This is Linux machine with Python 2.5.4 installed. I do not know the IP addy of the router and firewall is not open incoming. outgoing firewall is open. Machine B (Windows machine) is a server with well known IP address. I can install any programs I want on either machine. The idea is that I want Machine A to open a socket to machine B. Then I want to hold that socket and use to run a telnet session from Machine B to Machine A telnetd server. Is there any freeware that does this? Thoughts? Thanks!

  • HP blade server: How many connection can be made between HP new gen 8 blades and an interconnect

    I am building a virtualized network on an HP C3000 with 460c Gen 8 blades and 2 HP L3 switch interconnects. I was advised to by a 1Gb 4-port 366M Mezzanine Adapter. That provides me 6 ethernet connections to each blade. I have been told that you can only make 2 connections to from each blade to each interconnect, but since I have to interconnectes and 6 ports I hope someone can tell me if I can make 3 connections from each server to each interconnect.   • how do I have a windows group automatically map a drive on connection?

    I have 3 different windows user groups. Each group needs to have a certain drive mapped, unique to that group. Is there a way to say x group maps to y drive every time they connect? If I put something in their start up, that's a lot of manual work. I am needing something that I have set per user group, if possible. If this is not feasible, is there another option?     I have 20 PCs (Windows XP) in remote locations connecting to the same server (Windows Server 2003) using Remote Desktop over a VPN. On just one of the PCs the remote desktop screen flashes (redraws) multiple times after connecting, the others don't. The screen resolution is the same: local is 800x600 32bit; RDP file is set to full screen, 256 color; remote when connected is 800x600 8bit color. Any suggestions what the problem might be, or what to investigate next?

    When attempting to promote a secondary server to an existing active directory forest I receive the following error message and can no longer continue. Failed to examine the active directory forest. Value ridMasterDSA.partentDN not found What can cause this and what can be done to fix it? Both servers are 2008 running on x64 and can see each other on the network via their names. FYI: The firewall is turned off on both machines so there should be no issue there. Also the server that i'm adding is already a part of the domain. One server is already a domain controller but I want to add a second to it.

I've even considered that I can use more_set_input_headers -r 'Keep-Alive: timeout=60'; to conditionally replace the keep-alive timeout only if it already exists, but the problem is $scheme cannot be used in location ie. this is invalid location ^https {}

    Scenario: I am at work. I want to remote desktop into my machine at home. Problem is, my 5-year-old daughter is playing games on Starfall.com (or something similar) on her (non-admin) account. When I attempt to connect I see this message: Another user is currently logged on to this computer. If you continue, this user has to disconnect from this computer. Do you want to continue? I click Yes and then see Please wait for 'UserName' to respond This presents my daughter with an Allow/Disallow dialog on whether to let me connect. She clicks Disallow (or No or whatever it says) and then I see 'UserName' has denied your request Question: How can I force my account to log in and disconnect her session? Additional Info: My account is an administrator account. My daughter's account is a non-administrator account. Home machine is Windows 7 Pro with fast user switching enabled. Turning off fast user switching is not an option (Kyle pointed out in his answer that turning it off would allow the admin to force another user off). I would keep fast user switching's ability to change accounts without closing the previous account's session over being able to force myself to connect.

    I have usb-tethering enabled in my phone. It works fine with Vista. When I plug my phone into my Tecra 8000 laptop running Xubuntu, dmesg shows: "usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 8". I see that the OS has detected it as a storage device, but I can't get it to function correctly as a network device. /dev/us* shows no usb0, but it does show /dev/usbdev1.1_ep00 /dev/usbdev1.1_ep81 /dev/usbdev1.8_ep00 ... usbdev1.8_ep83.

  • MacBook makes a noise from the MagSafe connection every time I flip a widget...

    OK this is bizarre. But basically, what happens is on my MacBook (latest model) whenever I 'flip' a Dashboard Widget I hear a little noise for the duration of the flip: like a tiny continuous squeak noise. It's quite strange. However, it only ever happens when the MagSafe cable is plugged in. WHY?! :'( The noise appears to me emitted from the MagSafe area itself, but, there's not any other CoreAnimation or Quartzey bits that cause this to happen, it only happens with Dashboard widgets... The noise is very quiet and you can only hear it in a silent room. Edit: Running the latest Snow Leopard.
