  • Windows: Running an AutoIt script to launch a GUI app - on a server, when no one is logged in

    I want to run an AutoIt script every day at 1:00 AM on a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition. Since this is a server, obviously there is rarely someone sitting there logged in at the console, so the procedure needs to account for this. The AutoIt script in question launches and sends keypresses to a GUI app, so the process needs to include creating some sort of session for the user running the schedule task. Is there a way to do this? I can't just use scheduled tasks run the AutoIt script when no one is logged in - if I do, it fails to launch at all. I thought that I might be able to create an RDP session and run the scheduled task as that user, inside that session, but I haven't found a way to create an RDP session without launching mstsc.exe -- which is itself a GUI app, and I have the same problem again.

  • Is there a simple Load Balancer app for development environment on Windows?

    Does there exist a simple Load Balancer app for development on Windows? I am running a pair of JBoss 5.x instances in a cluster on a single machine. Normally , this configuration is load balanced by a nice hardware load balancer but I am wondering if there is a simple piece of software to enable load balancing in my Eclipse dev environment. Basically, for example, I want a load balancer running on port 11111 that round-robins between the 2 clustered JBoss instances on ssl ports 8443 and 8543 . (or http port if thats not possible) I know that Glassfish has a built-in load balancer but I can't use Glassfish. One idea I have is to try to setup a separate instance of Tomcat with the "balancer" web app. Im trying that now... not sure if it will work... and its a complicated setup and I wish there was something really easy.

  • How can I send an email from Mail.app to Outlook with an attachment that does not embed into the email body?

    I'm using Mail.app (on Mac OS X 10.6) and when I send an email to users on PC Outlook, with an attached image, they get the email as an image embedded into the body, not as an attachement. I even tried clicking "view as icon" before sending the attachment from Macmail, but that made no difference. I also tried this myself, sending from Mail.app over to my PC's Outlook, and I do get that same problem. In Outlook the image is not coming through as an attachment, but as an image embedded into the body of the email. The reason this is an issue primarily is because the user is then unable to click "save as" and has to actually copy and paste it into some other program, which means the file is converted from jpg or png to the bmp format. But beyond that, most of my recipients don't even know how to copy and paste it into another program to save it that way anyway. They need the "save attachment as" functionality.

I've found APPCMD (appcmd recycle apppool my-app-pool), but it only operates on the host it's run on, AFAICT. I heard a rumor there might be a way to do it with Powershell, but I know nothing about that, and I'm apparently not very good at googling for it. I'm using Vista / Server 2008, if that matters. EDIT: I found something called WinRM that somebody claims is able to run APPCMD itself, but I'm not sure exactly how, yet.

  • Where are the Microsoft downloaded app compat updates stored?

    Where are the Microsoft application compatibility update settings stored on a Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 computer? Microsoft periodically release application compatibility updates (e.g. KB929427), where they list the shims that should be applied to a program in order to workaround known bugs in the software. Where are these app compat flags stored, and how can i see what shims are being applied? i have a feeling that a recent app compat update included a flag to force a particular piece of software, that we use, to require administrator. Because the task is scheduled to run nightly, and the running user does not have administrative privelages, the task is failing to start. The application is requiring to be elevated. It has the UAC shield overlay. The application has no RT_MANIFEST resource, and the compatibility option Run this program as administrator is disabled (per-user and all users). So all that's left is some secret global setting. i know user-specified compat flags are stored in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Windows NT \CurrentVersion \AppCompatFlags \Layers

  • Will restarting the W3SVC Web Publishing Service, also restart the app pool in IIS?

    Background: I'm trying to stop and start IIS on a windows 7 build box, in order to run acceptance tests. But from what I have read, most of the remote web management features have been disabled by Microsoft in a retarted attempt to sell more Windows Server 2008 licenses. Still for some reason they didn't disable the least user-friendly ways of controlling IIS remotely, but they are all a total pain. What I can do easily is remotely stop and start the WWW service from a msbuild task. But I want to be sure that this also restarts the app pool, so that when I copy in new web files the web server there will be serving the most recent version of the website. Question: If I restart the W3SVC windows service, will that also restart the app pool?

    We're running ASP.NET 2.0 on MS Server 2008 and IIS 7. During the last releases the app pool hasn't automatically been restarted after changes in the bin folder. It works like a charm on our test server but not on the live server. The site is browsable but runs with the logic of the old version of the updated dll. One of the changes we have done lately is that one of the dll:s in the bin folder consists of other dlls that have been merged with ILMerge. Interop.ADODB.dll and Interop.CDO.dll is included in the merged dll. It is the user dll of the merged dll that is updated. What can possibly hinder IIS from restarting the app pool although a file has changed in the bin folder?

As an example, the dev box is running nginx on port 8080, and so the url's to the root of the node app looks like: http://localhost:8080/app When I call a redirect to '/app' from node, the actual redirect goes to: http://localhost/app

    I can access my linux box by ssh and by vnc. I want to run a GUI application, but directly from ssh, I don't want to access through VNC and click around. So, after logging in using ssh, I want to issue a magic command, so that when I log in through VNC I will see my GUI app running. How can I do this? edit: The linux box have X server running on it. I need to automate restarting a GUI application. I want to do it without any kind of GUI interaction. What I need: login through ssh on SERVER run my GUI app by forcing it to bind to X server running on SERVER ??? PROFIT!

  • Terminal is not letting me make commands unless I hit enter a bunch of times

    Whenever I open terminal it normally allows me to immediately begin making commands. Only earlier today I did the setup for github here https://help.github.com/articles/set-up-git And then all of a sudden the thing where I give terminal commands won't allow me to give it commands unless I hit enter a few times. This is what it looks like: Last login: Fri Nov 9 11:43:28 on ttys001 mysql.save: Permission denied mysql.save: Permission denied /Users/Nick/.zshrc:32: command not found:  . ~ git: ? ~ git: ? ~ git: ? See the big space? That's because it simply will never show the ~ git: thing unless I hit enter 3-4 times. Also, it never used to say ~ git: before I did the git setup. I'm not sure what I changed. I've checked the zshrc file and commented everything out to find the line causing the problem.   • Is there a navigation app for iPad which re-calculate the route?

    iPad 3G successfully shows me current location, but google maps are not re-calculating the route if I did not follow exactly initially suggested by it. Normal auto navigators re-calculate on the fly. CoPilot Live HD app I see in the app store has very bad feedback. Do you know any other that are better, please? I need it with maps for the continental U.S., and being able to re-calculate depending on my real current location. I'd be OK even if it won't do that automatically, — I'd tap some button.

  • Is there a way to send personal documents on Kindle for Mac app?

    I have the Kindle App on my Mac, and an android phone. When I email documents to my [email protected] id, I am able to see it in my library, and subsequently send it to my Android device. However, I'm not able to send it to the Kindle App for my Mac. The Kindle for Mac FAQs clearly state that Magazines, personal documents, etc. are not supported. However, I came across here that there is a workaround to this, although I've not been able to figure out what it is.

Earlier today we delivered a number of great improvements to Windows Azure Mobile Services.  New features include: iOS support – enabling you to connect iPhone and iPad apps to Mobile Services Facebook, Twitter, and Google authentication support with Mobile Services Blob, Table, Queue, and Service Bus support from within your Mobile Service Sending emails from your Mobile Service (in partnership with SendGrid) Sending SMS messages from your Mobile Service (in partnership with Twilio) Ability to deploy mobile services in the West US region All of these improvements are now live in production and available to start using immediately.     How do I set up an HTTP Redirect rule to redirect all requests for a virtual directory to another virtual directory, when I don't know the hostname or complete URL, and cannot use the URL Rewrite module? The following redirects should work: http://host1/app/oldvdir -> http://host1/app/newvdir http://host1/app/oldvdir/ -> http://host1/app/newvdir/ http://host1/app/oldvdir/login.aspx -> http://host1/app/newvdir/login.aspx http://host2/app/oldvdir/login.aspx -> http://host2/app/newvdir/login.aspx I would like to place the redirect rule in the app's root web.config. I have attempted the following rules, but the end result is simply that the redirected vdir gets duplicated on the end of the original vdir until reaching the max URL length, e.g., http://host/oldvdir/login.aspx -> http://host/oldvdir/newvdir/newvdir/newvdir/...   • How can I change the color of this part of Nautilus for my Ambiance theme modification?

    I am currently messing around with Ambiance, trying to give Nautilus a dark sidebar (because I think it looks much better that way, especially with the current look having the dark-colored breadcrumbs clashing horribly with the light-colored sidebar). I have zero experience and knowledge of how to create GTK+ themes, and I couldn't find any documentation online, so I just made a copy of the folder for Ambiance under /usr/share/themes, renamed it "Ambiance Dark Sidebar" and just started messing with color values. As shown below, I found the value in nautilus.css needed to be tweaked to create the dark sidebar, but there is still one part that stubbornly stays light gray that I want to change so it matches the rest better (I'm not sure what the proper terminology is here, so I just provided a picture and marked it in red). Does anyone know what I need to do to change the color of this part so it matches the rest of the sidebar better? I already know from seeing themes like Adwaita Dark that this should be possible, but even after poking around in that I didn't find anything that seemed to help. Here are the contents of the files I modified in the theme folder Ambiance Dark Sidebar, stored alongside Ambiance in /usr/share/themes: index.theme gtk-3.0/apps/nautilus.css
