• My headset doesn't work [closed]

  Hello! I am not sure if this question fits on this site :S if it doesn't please let me know and i remove it :) well... here is my problem I just got a steel series headset for christmas(yay!) and i quickly plugged it into my MacBook Pro. The audio output works fine, but i am having issues with the audio input :( i had these kinds of problems before and i think my mac may be broken :( but then i saw this post: http://www.biloca.com/blog/?p=25 and they talked about some power issues to the microphone on the Mac Mini... I did not quite get what they were discussing so i have a simple question :) Do any of you have an idea why my microphone doesn't work? Please help! :) Best Regards Kristian

• groovy call private method in Java super class

  I have an abstract Java class MyAbstractClass with a private method. There is a concrete implementation MyConcreteClass. public class MyAbstractClass { private void somePrivateMethod(); } public class MyConcreteClass extends MyAbstractClass { // implementation details } In my groovy test class I have class MyAbstractClassTest { void myTestMethod() { MyAbstractClass mac = new MyConcreteClass() mac.somePrivateMethod() } } I get an error that there is no such method signature for somePrivateMethod. I know groovy can call private methods but I'm guessing the problem is that the private method is in the super class, not MyConcreteClass. Is there a way to invoke a private method in the super class like this (other than using something like PrivateAccessor)? thanks Jeff

  What is the equivalent of Quartz Window Services for Windows and X11? I want to be able to capture individual windows with their decorations, shadows, etc., completely independent from each other. Basically what the Son of Grab example is able to do. http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/samplecode/SonOfGrab/Introduction/Intro.html Also it seems like it's not possible to capture non-top-level windows with QWS in Mac. For example I want to be able to capture a Java or Flash applet running inside Firefox. What other library would I need to use instead?

• how can I develop Apple Java Extensions on Windows?

  When I do multi-platform testing on Windows it gets annoying that Eclipse shows errors in the project because of the com.apple.eawt code that I have in a special Mac customization task. Worse yet, if I export a runnable jar on Windows, it won't run on mac because of the unresolved compilation problems. What's the best way to let Windows Java and com.apple.eawt live in peace? I can't see how I would be able to spin off the code to a jar, since it requires access to lots of the program's state. Thanks for your help!   When looking to improve Virtual Machine performance what would be better ... Increasing the available RAM or increasing the processor power? Here is my choice ... Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz with 8 GB RAM and integrated graphics (Mac Book Pro 13") Core i7 @ 2.6 GHz with 4 GB RAM and 512 MB dedicated graphics (Mac Book Pro 15") I plan to run Windows x64 in the VM with SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2010, and SharePoint 2010. I am planning to run VMWare Fusion v3. I also didn't know if a dedicated graphics card makes a difference when using a Virtual Machine. Thank you.

• Preferred Font for Reading Documentation?

  I have been spending quite some time lately reading Java6 Documentation; although I use Monaco as my monospaced font of choice, I am still searching for the best font which will please my eyes while reading the documentation text. I use both Windows7 at work and Mac OS X at home for the aforementioned and currently using (Monaco+Andalus) on Windows and (Monaco+Geneva) on Mac OS X, but would love to try out better looking fonts (specifically for documentation text, since I am sold on Monaco already). I have included a screenshot of how the text looks on Windows.

  My question is in regards to developing code for the iPhone / iTouch. What with Apple's transition to the Intel platform for their chip, it is obviously now possible to run their OS on a PC. So, with that, and my inherently cheap nature, I was wondering if it was possible to bypass the purchase of a refurbished Mac by running the iPhone SDK on a Hackintosh? As I am more of a hobbyist then a serious developer at present, I'd basically like to get my feet wet before fully committing to this endeavor.   In the iPhone SDK, in my .n, I can say: -(IBOutlet) UITextField *MyNameIs; -(IBOutlet) UILabel *DisplayMyNameIsHere; } -(IBAction)PressButtonToDisplayYourName; Then in my .m, I'll do: -(IBAction)PressButtonToDisplayYourName { DisplayMyNameIsHere = MyNameIs.text; } But now how would I translate that to making a Mac application. If I wanted to display someones name from a textfield in a label? I have been trying to figure this out, but the ".text" extension only works in the iPhone SDK, not the Mac SDK. Someone please help!   I downloaded Git and GitX for mac and installed it. Now, just for fun, I want to know how I could obtain an repository from GitHub like http://github.com/zoul/Finch.git ?? For me all this Git stuff looks like I have a client and connect to a server in order to get some data from some repository. Like FTP, well not really. But similar. Just one problem: Where to enter that URL? Is there some field for that? Some hidden command? I did manage to create a new project / repository on my mac, but now I have an empty window and no option to suck down that code from GitHub.

  Hello, In an app we are calculating a SHA1Hmac in java using the following: SecretKey key = new SecretKeySpec(secret, "HmacSHA1"); Mac m = Mac.getInstance("HmacSHA1"); m.init(secret); byte[] hmac = m.doFinal(data); And later, the hmac is verified in C# - on a SmartCard - using: HMACSHA1 hmacSha = new HMACSHA1(secret); hmacSha.Initialize(); byte[] hmac = hmacSha.ComputeHash(data); However, the result is not the same. Did I overlook something important? The inputs seem to be the same. Here some sample inputs: Data: 546573746461746131323341fa3c35 Key: 6d795472616e73616374696f6e536563726574 Result Java: 37dbde318b5e88acbd846775e38b08fe4d15dac6 Result C#: dd626b0be6ae78b09352a0e39f4d0e30bb3f8eb9 I wouldn't mind to implement my own hmacsha1 on both platforms, but using what already exists....   To be honest, I suck at regex so much, I would use RegexBuddy, but I'm working on my Mac and sometimes it doesn't help much (for me). • Longlasting Macport installation

  Hi, I use Macports on Mac OSX to install some software. But there are somethings that I find very strange. For instance, yesterday I installed some app. and the it needed to get gcc43 and compile completely from source! It took a lot of time, although now everything works right. I understand that compilation of everything in the gentoo spirit is eomthing nice, but in the Mac case, not necessary. There are ony sole hardware variations, so it will be easier to get the binaries. I wonder if Macporst can be forced to get the binaries when available and therefore avoid these time consuming compilations. Thanks

• .Net framework 1.1 web application on Safari

  We have an intranet web application developed using .NET framework 1.1 The application has few validators and fired from the server side (They are not client side validators). The web application runs perfectly fine on IE and Firefox (both on Mac and Windows). However on Safari(ver 4.0.3) browser running on Mac, the application intermittently fails to do post-back while submitting the page and just reloads the page. Is this issue something to do with .Net framework 1.1 or Safari browser? Is there any way to resolve this issue? Any pointers on this would be very helpful. Thanks!

• Windows 7 running as server

  I'm developing a program using Windows 7. There are WCF services (soap, rest) that are used by currently by Silverlight but very soon I'll start development of the mobile application that would make use of these services. On day to day basis I use Mac and Apache to host my website, but during the development of this program I would like to use IIS7 to put my services online. I have absolutely no problems to access all the services via localhost but as soon as I'm trying to connect through the internet I get "The connection has timed out". I'm sure that my router is configured right as it works perfectly fine when I'm on Mac OS, but it looks like Windows simply blocks incoming connections from outside; I cannot even connect from another computer on the same network. So is there a way of using Windows 7 as server with IIS7 or is it only possible with Windows Server? I know it might be like enabling/disabling one setting somewhere but I just cannot find it. Please help.

  I use my .vimrc file on my laptop (OS X) and several servers (Solaris & Linux), and could hypothetically someday use it on a Windows box. I know how to detect unix generally, and windows, but how do I detect OS X? (And for that matter, is there a way to distinguish between Linux and Solaris, etc. And is there a list somewhere of all the strings that 'has' can take? My Google-fu turned up nothing.) For instance, I'd use something like this: if has("mac") " open a file in TextMate from vi: " nmap mate :w<CR>:!mate %<CR> elseif has("unix") " do stuff under linux and " elseif has("win32") " do stuff under windows " endif But clearly "mac" is not the right string, nor are any of the others I tried.

  I have a Python script which needs to calculate the exact size of arbitrary strings displayed in arbitrary fonts in order to generate simple diagrams. I can easily do it with Tkinter.   Hello. I'm trying to roll out a little Rails plugin that is basically is just a wrapper to a 7zip archiver. Should I include the 7zip binaries for windows, mac and linux with it or explain to user that it's a dependency and they need to get it working. I know it's not that difficult to install a 7zip, but what is the best practice in general. The reason I'm asking is cause I've ran so many times into gems that need some sort of dependency that doesn't compile properly or is not available in ready form for the OS in question and then I end up spending have a day hunting down for a binary or a way to compile the program. (Have happened to me both on Mac and Windows, not on Debian so far. )

Now, I need to store a file containing per-user data (think favourites etc.) somewhere on the local file system, so that it can be written to. So, where do you think is a good location for this file? I am thinking something like: <USER_DOCUMENTS_AND_SETTINGS>/application data/myapp/favourites.db for windows <USER_HOME_DIR>/.myapp/favourites.db for mac/nix Thoughts? And does anyone know the best way to determine these paths within Java?

• Find&Replace using Python - Binary file

  Hello, I'm attempting to do a "find and replace" in a file on a Mac OS X computer. Although it appears to work correctly. It seems that the file is somehow altered. The text editor that I use (Text Wrangler) is unable to even open the file once this is completed. Here is the code as I have it: import fileinput for line in fileinput.FileInput("testfile.txt",inplace=1): line = line.replace("newhost",host) print line, When I view the file from the terminal, it does say "testfile" may be a binary file. See it anyway? Is there a chance that this replace is corrupting the file? Do I have another option for this to work? I really appreciate the help. • Having my Python package install shortcuts in Start menu

  I'm making a Python package that gets installed with a setup.py file using setuptools. The package includes a GUI, and when it's installed on a Windows machine, I want the installation to make a folder in "Programs" in the start menu, and make a shortcut there to a pyw script that will start the GUI. (The pyw think works on all platforms, right?) On Mac and Linux, I would like it to put this shortcut in whatever Mac and Linux have that is parallel to the start menu. How do I do this?

  This code for parsing my xml and appending via jquery seems to work great in every browser but Chrome (Mac only, the windows version of chrome works fine) and explorer.
