  • Why is go language so slow?

    - by oraz
As we can see from The Computer Language Benchmarks Game: go is in average 10x slower then C go is 3x slower then Java !? How it can be bearing in mind that go compiler produces native code for execution? Immature compilers for go? Or there is some intrinsic problem with the go language?

    Hi, I am using Drools.NET and got an exception when it is being called. The type initializer for 'org.drools.compiler.PackageBuilderConfiguration' threw an exception. InitializeComponent(); _Form = this; PackageBuilder builder = new PackageBuilder(); the exception comes a the line PackageBuilder builder = new PackageBuilder();

  • Biggest Delphi nitpicks

    - by Mason Wheeler
What sort of minor annoyances do you run into using Delphi? I'm not looking for major issues such as "I want a 64-bit compiler." Just little things that can be easily worked around but still should have been implemented better so you don't have to work around them? Marking this CW. I'm more interested in the answers than the points.

  • maven project with netbeans compiles fully on every run

    - by Jeff Storey
I was experimenting with Netbeans 6.8 (I'm currently an Eclipse user) because I like having a profiler built into the IDE. It seems that for maven projects, netbeans does a full compile (it invokes process-classes) every time I try to run the project, as opposed to Eclipse, which uses the incremental Java compiler. Is there a way to avoid having netbeans run mvn process-classes every time I want to run the main class? thanks, Jeff

  • netcon.h not found with mingw?

    - by cftmon
I am using the mingw(4.4.0) compiler that is included with QT4 and my IDE is netbeans 6.9. i noticed that i can't find netcon.h when i try to include it.I need netcon.h because i need some kind of API to bring up/down a network adapter, and after some googling i found that netcon.h is most commonly used. Linking netcon.h directly from the microsoft sdk produces lots of errors.Or is there some other library to alows me to reset an adapter, or i had to visual C++ completely to solve this problem?

  • Explain why MickroC pic18f4550 HID example works

    - by Dr Deo
MickroC compiler has a library for HID(Human Interface Device) usb communication. In the supplied samples, they specify that the buffers below should be in USB ram and use a pic18f4550. unsigned char readbuff[64] absolute 0x500; // Buffers should be in USB RAM, please consult datasheet unsigned char writebuff[64] absolute 0x540; But the pic18f4550 datasheet says USB ram ranges from 400h to 4FFh So why does their example work when their buffers appear not to be between 400h to 4FFh? • Switch Statement in C#

    - by pm_2
Does anyone know if it's possible to include a range in a switch statement (and if so, how)? For example: switch (x) { case 1: //do something break; case 2..8: //do something else break; default: break; } The compiler doesn't seem to like this kind of syntax - neither does it like: case <= 8:

  • What does these FindBug messages show?

    - by Hans Klock
Not every description from from http://findbugs.sourceforge.net/bugDescriptions.html is clear to me. Sure, I can study the implementation but if somebody is more experienced then me, some explanation and examples would be great. Do you have some examples for UI_INHERITANCE_UNSAFE_GETRESOURCE when this is getting a problem? In BX_UNBOXED_AND_COERCED_FOR_TERNARY_OPERATOR I don't see the problem either. If one type is "bigger" then the other, for example int and float, then the result is float. If its Integer and Float its the wrapper Float too. That's what I expect. Does the GC_UNRELATED_TYPES really help to find errors? Isn't it the job of the compiler to check, if--taking the given example--Foo can't go into a Collection<String>. Does HE_SIGNATURE_DECLARES_HASHING_OF_UNHASHABLE_CLASS mean something like bla(Foo f){hashtable.put(f);}, where ´Foo´ is not hashable? Does FingBugs "see" the subclasses too? NP_GUARANTEED_DEREF_ON_EXCEPTION_PATH is stronger "wrong" then NP_ALWAYS_NULL_EXCEPTION? Why two error cases and with NP_NULL_ON_SOME_PATH_EXCEPTION even one more? Sounds very similar to me. What is an example of SIO_SUPERFLUOUS_INSTANCEOF? Something like foo(String s){if (s intenceof String) .... This does a null check too, but this is not the test here... NN_NAKED_NOTIFY. I my opinion the description is not clear. A change of the state is not necessary. If I use new Object() to wait and notify on I don't change the object state. Or is state the lock-state? I don't get it. SP_SPIN_ON_FIELD. Can this really happen that a compiler will move this outside from a loop? This doesn't make sense to me because from outside a Thread can always change the values. And if the variable is volatile the JVM can't cache the value. So what's the meaning? That is the difference between STCAL_STATIC_CALENDAR_INSTANCE and STCAL_INVOKE_ON_STATIC_CALENDAR_INSTANCE or STCAL_INVOKE_ON_STATIC_DATE_FORMAT_INSTANCE/STCAL_STATIC_SIMPLE_DATE_FORMAT_INSTANCE? Why is XXXX.class in WL_USING_GETCLASS_RATHER_THAN_CLASS_LITERAL better then getClass()? A getClass() in a superclass called from the subclass will always return the Class object from the subclass which is good I think. What exactly does EQ_UNUSUAL do? It should check that the argument is of the same type of the class itself but it does't? Did you ever had problems with breaks? Is there real value with SF_SWITCH_FALLTHROUGH? Sounds to strong for me. No idea what TQ_EXPLICIT_UNKNOWN_SOURCE_VALUE_REACHES_ALWAYS_SINK and TQ_EXPLICIT_UNKNOWN_SOURCE_VALUE_REACHES_NEVER_SINK could be.

  • C++ non-member functions for nested template classes

    - by beldaz
    I have been writing several class templates that contain nested iterator classes, for which an equality comparison is required. As I believe is fairly typical, the comparison is performed with a non-member (and non-friend) operator== function. In doing so, my compiler (I'm using Mingw32 GCC 4.4 with flags -O3 -g -Wall) fails to find the function and I have run out of possible reasons. In the rather large block of code below there are three classes: a Base class, a Composed class that holds a Base object, and a Nested class identical to the Composed class except that it is nested within an Outer class. Non-member operator== functions are supplied for each. These classes are in templated and untemplated forms (in their own respective namespaces), with the latter equivalent to the former specialised for unsigned integers. In main, two identical objects for each class are compared. For the untemplated case there is no problem, but for the templated case the compiler fails to find operator==. What's going on? #include <iostream> namespace templated { template<typename T> class Base { T t_; public: explicit Base(const T& t) : t_(t) {} bool equal(const Base& x) const { return x.t_==t_; } }; template<typename T> bool operator==(const Base<T> &x, const Base<T> &y) { return x.equal(y); } template<typename T> class Composed { typedef Base<T> Base_; Base_ base_; public: explicit Composed(const T& t) : base_(t) {} bool equal(const Composed& x) const {return x.base_==base_;} }; template<typename T> bool operator==(const Composed<T> &x, const Composed<T> &y) { return x.equal(y); } template<typename T> class Outer { public: class Nested { typedef Base<T> Base_; Base_ base_; public: explicit Nested(const T& t) : base_(t) {} bool equal(const Nested& x) const {return x.base_==base_;} }; }; template<typename T> bool operator==(const typename Outer<T>::Nested &x, const typename Outer<T>::Nested &y) { return x.equal(y); } } // namespace templated namespace untemplated { class Base { unsigned int t_; public: explicit Base(const unsigned int& t) : t_(t) {} bool equal(const Base& x) const { return x.t_==t_; } }; bool operator==(const Base &x, const Base &y) { return x.equal(y); } class Composed { typedef Base Base_; Base_ base_; public: explicit Composed(const unsigned int& t) : base_(t) {} bool equal(const Composed& x) const {return x.base_==base_;} }; bool operator==(const Composed &x, const Composed &y) { return x.equal(y); } class Outer { public: class Nested { typedef Base Base_; Base_ base_; public: explicit Nested(const unsigned int& t) : base_(t) {} bool equal(const Nested& x) const {return x.base_==base_;} }; }; bool operator==(const Outer::Nested &x, const Outer::Nested &y) { return x.equal(y); } } // namespace untemplated int main() { using std::cout; unsigned int testVal=3; { // No templates first typedef untemplated::Base Base_t; Base_t a(testVal); Base_t b(testVal); cout << "a=b=" << testVal << "\n"; cout << "a==b ? " << (a==b ? "TRUE" : "FALSE") << "\n"; typedef untemplated::Composed Composed_t; Composed_t c(testVal); Composed_t d(testVal); cout << "c=d=" << testVal << "\n"; cout << "c==d ? " << (c==d ? "TRUE" : "FALSE") << "\n"; typedef untemplated::Outer::Nested Nested_t; Nested_t e(testVal); Nested_t f(testVal); cout << "e=f=" << testVal << "\n"; cout << "e==f ? " << (e==f ? "TRUE" : "FALSE") << "\n"; } { // Now with templates typedef templated::Base<unsigned int> Base_t; Base_t a(testVal); Base_t b(testVal); cout << "a=b=" << testVal << "\n"; cout << "a==b ? " << (a==b ? "TRUE" : "FALSE") << "\n"; typedef templated::Composed<unsigned int> Composed_t; Composed_t c(testVal); Composed_t d(testVal); cout << "c=d=" << testVal << "\n"; cout << "d==c ? " << (c==d ? "TRUE" : "FALSE") << "\n"; typedef templated::Outer<unsigned int>::Nested Nested_t; Nested_t e(testVal); Nested_t f(testVal); cout << "e=f=" << testVal << "\n"; cout << "e==f ? " << (e==f ? "TRUE" : "FALSE") << "\n"; // Above line causes compiler error: // error: no match for 'operator==' in 'e == f' } cout << std::endl; return 0; }

  • Package SWF into an EXE or APP

    - by Jeremy White
I am trying to adjust my Flash development workflow so that I am using Flash Builder for all of my coding and multiple FLA files for the user interfaces. I will be creating an ActionScript project in Flash Builder and then having each FLA export a SWC into a resources folder. It is important that I retain the ability to export PC and Mac -- EXE and app, respectively -- projector files. Is there a way of doing this with the Flash compiler or any 3rd party tools?

  • What does int argc, char *argv[] mean?

    - by Greg Treleaven
In many C++ IDE's and compilers, when it generates the main function for you, it looks like this: int main(int argc, char *argv[]) When I code C++ without an IDE, just with a command line compiler, I type: int main() without any parameters. What does this mean, and is it vital to my program?

  • Is Odersky serious with "bills !*&^%~ code!" ?

    - by stacker
In his book programming in scala (Chapter 5 Section 5.9 Pg 93) Odersky mentioned this expression "bills !*&^%~ code! In the footnote on same page: "By now you should be able to figure out that given this code, the Scala compiler would invoke (bills.!*&^%~(code)).!()." That's a bit to cryptic for me, could someone explain what's going on here?

  • Switch case assembly level code

    - by puffadder
Hi All, I am programming C on cygwin windows. After having done a bit of C programming and getting comfortable with the language, I wanted to look under the hood and see what the compiler is doing for the code that I write. So I wrote down a code block containing switch case statements and converted them into assembly using: gcc -S foo.c Here is the C source: switch(i) { case 1: { printf("Case 1\n"); break; } case 2: { printf("Case 2\n"); break; } case 3: { printf("Case 3\n"); break; } case 4: { printf("Case 4\n"); break; } case 5: { printf("Case 5\n"); break; } case 6: { printf("Case 6\n"); break; } case 7: { printf("Case 7\n"); break; } case 8: { printf("Case 8\n"); break; } case 9: { printf("Case 9\n"); break; } case 10: { printf("Case 10\n"); break; } default: { printf("Nothing\n"); break; } } Now the resultant assembly for the same is: movl $5, -4(%ebp) cmpl $10, -4(%ebp) ja L13 movl -4(%ebp), %eax sall $2, %eax movl L14(%eax), %eax jmp *%eax .section .rdata,"dr" .align 4 L14: .long L13 .long L3 .long L4 .long L5 .long L6 .long L7 .long L8 .long L9 .long L10 .long L11 .long L12 .text L3: movl $LC0, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L4: movl $LC1, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L5: movl $LC2, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L6: movl $LC3, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L7: movl $LC4, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L8: movl $LC5, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L9: movl $LC6, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L10: movl $LC7, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L11: movl $LC8, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L12: movl $LC9, (%esp) call _printf jmp L2 L13: movl $LC10, (%esp) call _printf L2: Now, in the assembly, the code is first checking the last case (i.e. case 10) first. This is very strange. And then it is copying 'i' into 'eax' and doing things that are beyond me. I have heard that the compiler implements some jump table for switch..case. Is it what this code is doing? Or what is it doing and why? Because in case of less number of cases, the code is pretty similar to that generated for if...else ladder, but when number of cases increases, this unusual-looking implementation is seen. Thanks in advance.

  • Generic overriding tells me this is the same function. Not agree.

    - by serhio
base class: Class List(Of T) Function Contains(ByVal value As T) As Boolean derived class: Class Bar : List(Of Exception) ' Exception type as example ' Function Contains(Of U)(ByVal value As U) As Boolean compiler tells me that that two are the same, so I need to declare Overloads/new this second function. But I want use U to differentiate the type (one logic) like NullReferenceException, ArgumentNull Exception, etc. but want to leave the base function(no differentiation by type - other logic) as well.

  • Installing gtk and compiling using gcc under windows? [solved]

    - by sil3nt
I have gcc installed in c:/programfiles (also set as a path variable), and i have all the necessary files for gtk from http://www.gtk.org/download-windows.html, glib, gtk, pango, atk and cairo. Although I have no clue as to how to compile a c program using gtk with the gcc compiler. How do I set everything up so that it works?. (I don't know where each zip file goes.?) basically I don't really know where start.

  • Subclass not seeing superclass' instance variable

    - by hyn
I have a situation where my subclass is not seeing the superclass' instance variable x. The ivar is obviously @protected by default, so why do I get a compiler error "x undeclared"? If I make this ivar a property then I can access it by self.x. What's worse is sometimes the error disappears, so something in my code is obviously causing this error but I cannot figure it out.

  • What is the difference between NULL in C++ and null in Java?

    - by Stephano
I've been trying to figure out why C++ is making me crazy typing NULL. Suddenly it hits me the other day; I've been typing null (lower case) in Java for years. Now suddenly I'm programming in C++ and that little chunk of muscle memory is making me crazy. Wikiperipatetic defines C++ NULL as part of the stddef: A macro that expands to a null pointer constant. It may be defined as ((void*)0), 0 or 0L depending on the compiler and the language. Sun's docs tells me this about Java's "null literal": The null type has one value, the null reference, represented by the literal null, which is formed from ASCII characters. A null literal is always of the null type. So this is all very nice. I know what a null pointer reference is, and thank you for the compiler notes. Now I'm a little fuzzy on the idea of a literal in Java so I read on... A literal is the source code representation of a fixed value; literals are represented directly in your code without requiring computation. There's also a special null literal that can be used as a value for any reference type. null may be assigned to any variable, except variables of primitive types. There's little you can do with a null value beyond testing for its presence. Therefore, null is often used in programs as a marker to indicate that some object is unavailable. Ok, so I think I get it now. In C++ NULL is a macro that, when compiled, defines the null pointer constant. In Java, null is a fixed value that any non-primitive can be assigned too; great for testing in a handy if statement. Java does not have pointers, so I can see why they kept null a simple value rather than anything fancy. But why did java decide to change the all caps NULL to null? Furthermore, am I missing anything here?

  • Freeing memory twice

    - by benjamin button
Hi, AFAIK, freeing a NULL pointer will result in nothing. I mean nothing is being done by the compiler/no functionality is performed. Still, I do see some statements where people say that one of the scenarios where memory corruption can occur is "freeing memory twice"? Is this still true?
