• Does Dart have any useful features for web programmers?

  http://www.dartlang.org/ I've checked out the site very briefly, and got curious. Is there any advantages of using Dart? Is it just a replacement for JavaScript? It looks like simpler Java. Writing quite a lot of C# at work, the language feels very much like what I'm used to, so learning the syntax looks like a breeze to learn. Has anybody any opinions or experiences with the language? (Compared to CoffeeScript (= I'm not doing Ruby syntax) the syntax looks more familiar to me).

• Self learning automated movement

  I am trying to make a small demo in Javascript, I have a black border and a car the car travels randomly and a line is drawn of its trail. When the user click inside the area it creates an object (we'll call this the wall). If the car hits the wall then it goes back 3 paces and tries a different route. When its hit the wall it needs to log down its location so it does NOT make that mistake again. • Scrolling Box2D DebugDraw

  I'm developing a game using Box2D (javascript implementation - Box2DWeb), and I would like to know how I can pan the debug draw. I know the usual answer is - don't use debug draw, it's just for debugging. I'm not, however not all my objects are on the same screen, and i'd like to see where they are in the physics representation. How can I pan the debug drawing? As you can see the debug draw stuff, is show on the top left, but it only shows a small part of the world. • Increasing speed of circle over time as linear with Box2d

  Assume that there is a circle and it can be moved by using keyboard arrows.Is required that increasing speed over time like increasing car speed. For example; max speed is 25 and time to reach max speed shall be 5 sec. Over 5 sec the speed will reach to max speed. Does Box2d handle that situation?. I tried setting linear valocity but it seems to make the circle have constant speed instead of increased speed over time. Thank You! Note: I'm using Box2DWeb Javascript port of Box2D.

  What do you need to know to at the very least get your foot in the door? We're assuming for someone who doesn't have a college degree (yet) but will eventually get one. My guess is html, css, javascript, and php, and photoshop and dreamweaver, and sql. And being familiar with using a web host to have sites live, like knowing how to use cpanel. It's probably a very inaccurate and narrow guess but that's what i think right now. I don't know exactly.

• General solution to solve different sports results in different languages

  I currently have some code that checks if squash and tennis scores are valid, both in javascript and PHP. This results in 4 blocks of code existing, 2 languages * 2 sports, which does not scale well should any extra sports come around, or extra languages... How can one describe the valid scores of games via a settings/text file, so that each language can parse them and apply these rules. • How do you unit test your javascript.

  I spend a lot of time working in javascript of late. I have not found a way that seems to work well for testing javascript. This in the past hasn't been a problem for me since most of the websites I worked on had very little javascript in them. I now have a new website that makes extensive use of jQuery I would like to build unit tests for most of the system. My problems are this. Most of the functions make changes to the DOM in some way. Most of the functions request data from the web server as well and require a session on the service to get results back. I would like to run the test from either a command line or a test running harness rather then in a browser. Any help or articles I should be reading would be helpful.

• how to transform child elements position into a world position

  So Im making a 2d space game and I have a bunch of spaceships that have turrets. Objects have a position and orientation, the ships being in world coordinates while the turrets are children and coordinates are relative to their parents. How do I efficiently calculate the position of a turret in world coordinates (i.e. when it fires and I need to know where to place a bullet in the world)? Calculating the turrets orientation is trivial - I just add the turrets relative angle to its parents. For position though, I guess I could do a bunch of trigonometry but this MUST be a common problem with a good/fast general solution? Should I be relearning how to do matrix math again? :) btw - Im creating the game in javascript+canvas but its the math/algorithm im interested in here Cheers, Greg

I can handle the blatant disregard for the libraries I've used in the past and just using something else. I can even handle the functions with 25 parameters. • What happened to GremCheck? Is there a viable replacement?

Thanks!] Hi all, I was a big fan of an app called "GremCheck" that was out a while back, that seems to have disappeared. It was a JavaScript included in a master page that placed an icon at the bottom of the page. It was used during testing. You could define your own tests, and the box could pop up per page and viewers would answer the questions you define (such as "Does this page have the correct title?", "Is the Grammar Correct", "Does the design look consistent"). This was useful for end-user tests groups and quick testing for developers if time was squeezed on full functional testing. Anyone know where GremCheck went, if I can get to it, and if there's anything out there that does something similar? Thanks for any help you can give!

• How can I create a dynamic site that is still search-bot friendly?

  If I want to have a slide effect between pages. You click a link, it is loaded off to the side and then slides in (pushing the old page off the other side). I can imagine using jQuery to do the PHP and the effects... but how do I do something like this that gracefully degrades for users without Javascript, including bots? Possibly more problematic: what if I wanted to have a sort of mural background across the site, perhaps with a parallax scrolling effect, and sliding to other pages reveals more of the, possibly giant image? Again, I can imagine how to do this with lots of fancy jQuery and PHP but it would heavily rely on those. How can I gracefully degrade in a situation like that? Any pointers, articles or books would be greatly appreciated. I keep trying to search for answers but I just get a lot of "theory"-based, unhelpful blogs.

• How to solve problems with movement in simple tile based multiplayer game?

  I'm making a simple tile based 2D multiplayer game in JavaScript using socket.io where you can move one tile every 200 ms. The two solutions I've tried are as follows: The client sends "walk one tile north" every 200 ms. Problem: People can easily hack the client to send the action more often. The client sends "walking north" and "stopped walking". Problem: Sometimes the player moves extra steps when "stopped walking" doesn't arrive in time. Do you know a way around these problems or is there a better way to do it? EDIT: Regarding the first solution I've tried adding validation on the server to check if it has been 200 ms since last movement. The problem is that latency still encourages people just to spam the action as much as possible, giving them an unfair advantage.

  I'm looking to reduce the footprint of my Strict html 4.01 front page. One possible way is to combine much of the "upcoming events" into a single small box, and have them automagically switch which one is displayed every few seconds. I'm sure there are a bunch of this kind of thing written already, and surely an open source one exists, but I haven't had much luck find one. I'd prefer javascript to jQuery as installing jQuery might not be an option, but if the best-fit script requires jQuery I'd certainly be willing to investigate that route. If it can display content from Wordpress that would be ideal.

• Unity: Assigning String value in inspector

  I got an issue with Unity I can't seem to comprehend, and it is possibly very simple: I am trying to write a simple piece of code in JavaScript where a button toggles the activation of a shield, by dragging a prefab with Resources.load("ActivateShieldPreFab") and destroying it again (Haven't implemented that yet). I wish to assign this button through the inspector, so I have created a string variable which appears as intended in the inspector. Though it doesn't seem to register the inspector input, even though I changed the value through the inspector. It only provides the error: "Input Key named: is unknown" When the button name is assigned within the code, there is no issues.
