It prompts the user for username and password. What is the best way for the client to authenticate the user's credentials. The password cannot be sent as plain text. • What is a great tool for remote pair development?

  I'm looking for something like VNC, but with some extra features: The server should send only the part of the screen the client is looking at. It would be great if we could have 2 mice on the client's desktop. Or at least if the client could point to somthing without interrupting the server's mouse. A shared whiteboard would be great.   I've tried searching but couldn't come up with a defined way on how to add your own packages to a GWT project. My tree structure looks like this: -com.mycompany -public MyApplication.html MyApplication.gwt.xml -com.mycompany.client MyApp.java -com.mycompany.gui TableLayout.java The answer I've seen out there says to add the packages relative to the root directory of the gwt.xml file, like so: <module> <inherits name="com.google.gwt.user.User" /> <entry-point class="com.mycompany.client.MyApp" /> <source path="client" /> <source path="gui" /> </module> It then complains: Unable to find type 'com.technicon.client.MyApp' Hint: Previous compiler errors may have made this type unavailable Hint: Check the inheritance chain from your module; it may not be inheriting a required module or a module may not be adding its source path entries properly Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix this?

  Hi all, Here is my question, I have a solution with 4 projects in it for a WCF Service : DLL Library : Service Interface. DLL Library : Service Code. Form Application : Service hosting application. Form Application : Service client application. I'd like to have certain properties of the service accessible for the hosting application but not for the client one. If I declare a property in the client interface they will both have access to it. In fact, my service manage user identity login and keep a list of all user currently logged in. I'd like to be able to show this list in the Hosting application, like a debugging tool. But I don't want the service client to be able to access to this list. How can I do ? Thank in advance.

  My iPhone app embeds a UIWebView which loads html via a custom NSProtocol handler I have registered. My problem is that resources referenced in the returned html, which are also loaded via my custom protocol handler, are cached and never reloaded. I thought clearing the shared url cache would work, but it doesnt: [[NSURLCache sharedURLCache] removeAllCachedResponses]; One thing that does work, but it's terribly inefficient, is to dynamically cache-bust the url for the stylesheet by adding a timestamp parameter: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./styles.css?ts=1234567890" /> To make this work I have to load my html from the db, search and replace the url for the stylesheet with a cache-busting parameter that changes on each request. I'd rather not do this. My presumption is that there is no problem if I were to load my content via the built-in HTTP protocol. In that case, I'm guessing that the UIWebView looks at any Cache-Control flags in the NSURLHTTPResponse object's http headers and abides by them. Since my NSURLResponseObject has no http headers (it's not http...) then perhaps UIWebView just decides to cached the resource (ignoring the NSURLRequest caching directive?). Ideas???

  I have created a FLV video player using the AS3 flash.media.Video object (not the FLV playback component) and I am trying to listen for meta events and Cue Points embedded in the FLV video but I am not receiving any when I trace the movie. The cue points are not being created dynamically, they are in the FLV video. REST has its uses, SOAP has its uses, in some places they intersect as functionality but they are not replaceable to one another. So I wonder, why do people think SOAP is "deprecated"?   I have a .NET 3.5 Compact Framework project that uses RDA for moving data between its mobile device's local SqlCe database and a remote MSSql-2008 server(it uses RDA Push and Pull). The server machine a virtual directory with sqlcesa35.dll (v3.5.5386.0) setup for RDA. We usually install these cabs on the mobile devices and the RDA process does not have any problems: sqlce.wce5.armv4i.cab sqlce.repl.wce5.armv4i.cab Now I am trying to run this application as a desktop application. RDA Pull (download) has been working well. But the RDA Push (upload) is giving me some problems. This is the exception that I get on the desktop application when I try to use RDA Push: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException The Client Agent and Server Agent component versions are incompatible. The compatible versions are: Client Agent versions 3.0 and 3.5 with Server Agent versions 3.5 and Client Agent version 3.5 with Server Agent version 3.5. Re-install the replication components with the matching versions for client and server agents. [ 35,30,Client Agent version = ,Server Agent version = ] I have tried copying the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\Desktop\SqlServerCe.dll (v3.5.5692.0) to bin\debug I have also tried copying another version of SqlServerCe.dll (v3.0.5206.0) to bin\debug. But this just gives me a slightly different exception: System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException [ 35,30 ] Is there a different setup or any different dlls that I need to use? Thanks, -Joel

  Hi, I have a problem. I have 4 tables: Invoice_Payment, Invoice, Client, and Calendar Basically, I have the below query, which works well, except, months with no date_due don't return. I.E only months with a date_due will be returned. I think I have to use a left join and join the calendar table with something like: LEFT JOIN Calendar ON Invoice_Payments.date_paid = Calendar.date_field.   I have concerns about the performance of the following architecture: j2ee application in an appserver, ejb session bean and DAOs remote (rich) client, a swing app. A classic, form-based client only one stateless ejb, the ejb is accessed via web services, not rmi, through a homegrown framework each web service request will get authenticated against an LDAP no state stored on the server, only client-side sessions I guess working on the rich GUI will involve a remote call in every 2-10 seconds, or more, per user. • How to upgrade a 1.4.3 TortoiseSVN created repository to 1.6.x?

  A few years ago we deployed TortoiseSVN 1.4.3 to our software development team and we used this client to create a repository on a share point. We are now looking at upgrading to the latest 1.6.x version of TortoiseSVN. I had hoped this would be transparent as the additional features and modifications will all be client-side. For the most part this is true except for a very important feature -- merging. When I try to merge a feature branch back into truck I get a "Merge tracking not supported error." So now the question becomes, how does one upgrade a 1.4.3 TortoiseSVN created repo to be compatible with the latest 1.6.x version of TortoiseSVN? As a follow up question, if we were to successfully upgrade the repo such that the 1.6.x client works flawlessly, will we still be backwards compatible with a 1.4.x client?

I'm trying to design a WCF system that can accomplish this using a centralized service talking to a service of some kind installed on each client.   I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). Has anybody had any luck getting it to go? I usually use mysqldump or a similar tool to get everything in 1 SQL file so what is the way to deal with these types of files?

• Auto-resolving a hostname in WCF Metadata Publishing

  I am running a self-hosted WCF service. In the service configuration, I am using localhost in my BaseAddresses that I hook my endpoints to. When trying to connect to an endpoint using the WCF test client, I have no problem connecting to the endpoint and getting the metadata using the machine's name. The problem that I run into is that the client that is generated from metadata uses localhost in the endpoint URLs it wants to connect to. I'm assuming that this is because localhost is the endpoint URL published by metadata. As a result, any calls to the methods on the service will fail since localhost on the calling machine isn't running the service. What I would like to figure out is if it is possible for the service metadata to publish the proper URL to a client depending on the client who is calling it. For example, if I was requesting the service metadata from a machine on the same network as the server the endpoint should be net.tcp://MYSERVER:1234/MyEndpoint. If I was requesting it from a machine outside the network, the URL should be net.tcp://MYSERVER.mydomain.com:1234/MyEndpoint. And obviously if the client was on the same machine, THEN the URL could be net.tcp://localhost:1234/MyEndpoint. Is this just a flaw in the default IMetadataExchange contract? Is there some reason the metadata needs to publish the information in a non-contextual way? Is there another way I should be configuring my BaseAddresses in order to get the functionality I want? • Synchronizing reading and writing with synchronous NamedPipes

  A Named Pipe Server is created with hPipe = CreateNamedPipe( zPipePath, PIPE_ACCESS_DUPLEX, PIPE_TYPE_BYTE | PIPE_WAIT | PIPE_READMODE_BYTE, PIPE_UNLIMITED_INSTANCES, 8192, 8192, NMPWAIT_USE_DEFAULT_WAIT, NULL) Then we immediately call: ConnectNamedPipe( hPipe, BYVAL %NULL ) Which blocks until the client connects. Then we proceed directly to ReadFile( hPipe, ... The problem is that it takes the Client takes a finite amount of time to prepare and write all the fcgi request parameters. This has usually not completed before the Pipe Server performs its ReadFile(). The Read file operation thus finds no data in the pipe and the process fails. Is there a mechanism to tell when a Write() has occurred/finished after a client has connected to a NamedPipe? If I had control of the Client process, I could use a common Mutex, but I don't, and I really do not want to get into I/O completion ports just to solve this problem! I can of course use a simple timer to wait 60m/s or so which is usually plenty of time for the wrote to complete, but that is a horrible hack.
