  Just tired to see this error every time for years only in ONE project: "Cannot evaluate expression because a thread is stopped at a point where garbage collection is impossible, possibly because the code is optimized" Almost every property or field displays this message. From vs2005+.net2.0 to vs2008+.net3.5 now. Does anybody know how to fix it?

Any help would be appreciated.

  Hi everyone. I'm trying to configure some WCF stuff. Currently, I have a server which allows remote users to download files, and client. In the server, I use a ServiceHost class. I assume it should be running on a separate thread, however, the server UI (WinForms) becomes locked when someone downloads a file. Is there a way to manage the WCF threading model? Thank you!

  While taking a look at this awesome thread I noticed that some examples use PS1="Blah Blah Blah" and some use PROMPT_COMMAND="Blah Blah Blah" (and some use both) when setting the prompt in a bash shell. What is the difference between the two? • C# method generic params parameter bug?

  Hey, I appears to me as though there is a bug/inconsistency in the C# compiler. This works fine (first method gets called): public void SomeMethod(string message, object data); public void SomeMethod(string message, params object[] data); // .... SomeMethod("woohoo", item); Yet this causes "The call is ambiguous between the following methods" error: public void SomeMethod(string message, T data); public void SomeMethod(string message, params T[] data); // .... SomeMethod("woohoo", (T)item); I could just use the dump the first method entirely, but since this is a very performance sensitive library and the first method will be used about 75% of the time, I would rather not always wrap things in an array and instantiate an iterator to go over a foreach if there is only one item. Splitting into different named methods would be messy at best IMO. Thoughts?

  Hi, I read somewhere that we should lock the mutex before calling pthread_cond_signal and unlock the mutext after calling it: The pthread_cond_signal() routine is used to signal (or wake up) another thread which is waiting on the condition variable. It should be called after mutex is locked, and must unlock mutex in order for pthread_cond_wait() routine to complete. My question is: isn't it OK to call pthread_cond_signal or pthread_cond_broadcast methods without locking the mutex?

  I've been playing around with the windows clipboard. I noticed that you can only view the clipboard if you supply a format. I've seen programs that can dump the raw contents of the clipboard. Look at http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/misc/Clipboard.htm#ClipboardAll for an example of what I mean. Is there a way to do something similar, what I want to do is be able to back up the clipboard, manipulate it, then restore it when my program is done. I'm looking for a non-.net solution if that's actually a thing

  I have a following piece of JSON: \/Date(1293034567877)\/ which is a result of this .NET code: var obj = DateTime.Now; var serializer = new System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer(); serializer.Serialize(obj).Dump(); Now the problem I am facing is how to create a Date object from this in JavaScript. All I could find was incredible regex solution (many containing bugs). It is hard to believe there is no elegant solution as this is all in JavaScrip, I mean JavaScript code trying to read JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) which is supposed to be a JavaScript code and at this moment it turns out it's not cause JavaScript cannot do a good job here. I've also seen some eval solutions which I could not make to work (besides being pointed out as security threat). Is there really no way to do it in an elegant way? • Another question about ASP.NET MVC and a separate project for helper classes

  I know this topic has been discussed to death, but there is one thing that I can't wrap my head around. I'm working on a Web Application using ASP.NET MVC and I come across a scenario where I need a helper class (this usually happens in the early stages of development. So I go ahead and create a helper project in my solution that I use to manage all of my Helper Classes. Now, do I have to build that project and dump the dll in the bin directory every time I make changes to is, or is there a way to have the main web application reference the classes contained within the separate project without the separate build process? I'm just looking for the easiest way to add helper classes without the hastel of building and moving the dll every time I make a change or addition. Also, sorry for the very newbie-esque question here. All of the web apps I've build in the past have all been in the same project (web forms, App_Code, etc).

The paper is a comparative study of Event based and thread based highly concurrent servers and finally concludes stating that Threads are better than events in that scenario. I find that I am not able to classify what sort of concurrency model erlang exposes.   i want to normalize date fields from an old badly designed db dump. i now need to update every row, where the datefield only contains the year. update table set date = '01.01.' + date where date like '____' and isnumeric(date) = 1 and date >= 1950 but this will not work, because sql does not do short circuit evaluation of boolean expressions. thus i get an error "error converting nvarchar '01.07.1989' to int" is there a way to work around this? the column also contains strings with a length of 4, which are not numbers (????, 5/96, 70/8, etc.) the table only has 60000 rows

  Hi, for a PerCall WCF service whose throttling has been set to be high (say, 200 max concurrent calls) would WCF bring up a new instance and invoke the request on a threadpool thread? If it does, then does this have an impact on the total number of concurrent calls allowed? I ask because I don't seem to ever hit the max number of concurrent calls I've set in the service throttling config but instead a fraction of that number - up to 50 on a 100 MaxConcurrentCalls setting and 160 on a 200 MaxConcurrentCalls setting. • Sending an int array through Winsocks

  I'm trying to send an int array through Winsocks. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure only a char* is supported so I'm kind of stuck on how to do this properly. There are also problems with little/big edian, so what would be a good way to do this? I've already asked a question of converting int array to char but it was recommended to start a new thread on this in the networking section instead.
