• Corporate IM with video that actually works, suggestions?

  Hi. Does anyone here have a suggestion for a cross-platform IM solution wich will work with voip/video on both Windows (XP and 7) and Mac OS X from 10.4 and upwards? Right now were in a kind of mixed enviroment, with some Mac users using iChat server since they need video support (conference across several offices over VPN), but it wont't work on windows clients. The rest of us are happily using Openfire+Spark, but there's no VoIP or video avaible from what i've found, unless you want to add in several 3rd party software (like red5 and asterisk). Requirements: As said before; must work on both Windows and Mac Internal server (no Skype etc) File transfer between platforms SSO (Single Sign-On) via Active Directory authentication Some sort of screen sharing would be a plus, like switching over to a screen capture (powerpoint, software training etc) We can afford to buy software if that's needed to get this working without any hiccups across platforms. • Windows XP Pro SP3 stop error code 0x000000F4

  I have a system running Windows XP Pro SP3. My wife is the primary user of this system, and the last several days in a row, when she tries to log in to the system it gives her a BSOD with the stop error code 0x000000F4. The rest of the error codes change every time she tries to log on, but that one seems to stay constant. The error it gives me is: A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. The machine will also get stuck in a boot loop, where it keeps giving me the screen saying that windows did not start successfully, and to choose how to start windows. I have tried Safe Mode, Last known Good Config, and Normally, and all have resulted in either a return to the boot loop, or BSOD. What might this mean? How can I fix it, without doing a clean install?

• How to get old DLL's running on 64bit server

  Hello all, I'm moving my company's websites from a windows 2003x86 server to windows 2008x64 which is running IIS 7.5. The problem that I've got is that all the DLL's which were running fine on the old server, now error out whenever they're called. All I get is a generic error like: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3' Server.CreateObject Failed /folder/scriptname.asp, line 24 800401f3 The line that errors is: '23 lines of comments set A0SQL_DATA = server.createobject("olddllname.Data") 'the rest of the script I already have that site running in an App Pool that is set to 32bit mode. But, I get the error anyway. Has anyone experienced this? I'm frusterated because all the info I look up says that all I need to do is set the app pool to run in 32bit mode. I did that and It's still not working. What else could I check?

• CPU spikes on small site- possibly apache or php config related

  Hello, I hope you can help me. I have a site that I'm moving to a new datacenter. The server is pretty much vanilla, no control panel, and also no optimizations. When I hit a page, the site takes an extremely long time to load, despite it being relatively light weight. I ran top to see what was happening, and the cpu jumps to 75%, and drops back down to about 20% while the rest of the page is loading. Someone suggested that I ran lsof -p on the offending processes, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I ran through my httpd.conf file and commented out a bunch of loaded modules that didn't seem necessary, but that didn't help either. Anyone have any ideas? • ASP.NET MVC project won't start under IIS 5.1 on Windows XP SP3

  I've a ASP.NET MVC 2 project that runs fine under Windows 7 and will start on Windows XP if I use the Visual Studio Development Server, however, starting under IIS generates an error: Unable to start debugging on the web server With the message The specified procedure could not be found No errors in the system event viewer. If I start without debugging I get an "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" The reason I run it under IIS is the project also includes some WCF wsHttp web services that use certificates, so the VS Development Server is not adequate for hosting those. I have already seen the links on SO that talk about adding the wildcard mapping. I've already done that, just as I've done on Windows Server 2003 where I successfully host ASP.NET MVC RC2 for quite a while.

• Suppressing / Accepting warning windows automatically in commands executed through batch file

  I am automating the uninstall of IE9 through executing the command in these instructions inside a batch file: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_7/how-to-uninstall-ie9-beta-64-bit-it-is-not-in-the/863d8f3d-c4ab-43e6-9d57-e163ea3baddd The instructions say to run the command twice. The first time the command runs, I get the following error window (3 times): "Windows Package Manager Operation failed with 0x80070005 Access id denied." I click OK for each of these windows, and the rest of the script runs fine and IE8 is usable after restart. Is there a way to suppress these windows? I want this to be fully automated and these windows block the script until the user presses "OK".

  I was trying to force my domain to redirect without www and could success through this code: .htaccess: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.domain\.com [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*) http://domain.com/$1 [R=301,L] however, this code is going to redirect all www to non-www, which is not what I want. I just want to make the main domain from www.mydomain.com to mydomain.com and the rest of the urls should be forced to www. any idea how to add or modify the code so I can achieve that through .htaccess ? Update: Thanks to all. I found out that swf file from piecemaker was corrupted and updated it with new one. so now it is all fine and works on both www and non-www. I'm still curious how to solve this issue anyways using .htaccess. Thanks again.

• How to give virtual machine access to the Internet, but block from LAN?

  I am setting up a virtual machine using Microsoft Virtual PC in Windows 7. The VM will run a Windows XP. I want to set up a public-facing server in it for web pages, subversion and other things, and instruct the router to port forward any requests to that Virtual Machine. I managed to do that - I assigned the VM to the network adapter, and it is now acting as just another DHCP client - but to increase security I would like to block the VM from the rest of the LAN, so it accepts only incoming connections from the Internet. For this to be effective in case of a compromise, it would have to happen on VM level as far as I can see. Can this be done?

• Limiting use of filesharing services

  I live in an apartment with 3 other roommates, and we share the internet connection though a wireless router (Level One WBR-3406TX). One of the roommates is always running utorrent, and it is slowing down everybody's connection way too much. Unfortunately, he feels like he shouldn't have to give up on downloading stuff, and is refusing to stop hogging the bandwidth. I was wondering if there's something I can do to the router configuration that would disrupt his use of utorrent just enough to to make the internet usable for the rest of us, and still have it work well enough for him so that he doesn't start poking around looking for answers.

• Adding operation in middle of complex sequence diagram in visio 2003

  I am using Microsoft Visio 2003 to define static classes with operations/methods and a sequence diagrams referring to these classes. The sequence diagram is almost done, but i realized that i missed one operation in middle of the diagram. When i try to move rest of the sequences down by selecting it as a block, all the operations in the block loose link with static diagrams. ( Methods which were referred to static classes as fun(), became fun, which means that now they no longer refer to static diagrams and any future changes would not be reflected in dynamic sequence diagrams automatically.) The sequence diagrams have grown to A3 size paper and i have many of such diagrams which needs correction. Manually moving the operations one by one would involve lots of effort. Could someone kindly suggest a way to overcome this problem?

• Django internationalization for admin pages - translate model name and attributes

  Django's internationalization is very nice (gettext based, LocaleMiddleware), but what is the proper way to translate the model name and the attributes for admin pages? I did not find anything about this in the documentation: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/i18n/internationalization/ http://www.djangobook.com/en/2.0/chapter19/ I would like to have "???????? ????? ??? ?????????" instead of "???????? order ??? ?????????". Note, the 'order' is not translated. First, I defined a model, activated USE_I18N = True in settings.py, run django-admin makemessages -l ru. No entries are created by default for model names and attributes. Grepping in the Django source code I found: $ ack "Select %s to change" contrib/admin/views/main.py 70: self.title = (self.is_popup and ugettext('Select %s') % force_unicode(self.opts.verbose_name) or ugettext('Select %s to change') % force_unicode(self.opts.verbose_name)) So the verbose_name meta property seems to play some role here. Tried to use it: class Order(models.Model): subject = models.CharField(max_length=150) description = models.TextField() class Meta: verbose_name = _('order') Now the updated po file contains msgid 'order' that can be translated. So I put the translation in. Unfortunately running the admin pages show the same mix of "???????? order ??? ?????????". I'm currently using Django 1.1.1. Could somebody point me to the relevant documentation? Because google can not. ;-) In the mean time I'll dig deeper into the django source code...

  On my server the filesystem includes these partitions: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda6 4.6G 929M 3.5G 21% / /dev/sda5 76M 20M 53M 27% /boot /dev/sda8 449G 199M 426G 1% /home /dev/sda7 4.6G 4.4G 0 100% /var (Output from df -ah) I'm storing the web sites and databases under /var and as you can see it's got full. The /home folder just has basic user directories and nothing else so I'd like to repartition the server so that /dev/sda8 is about 5GB, with the rest going to dev/sda7. What's the easiest way to do this via command line (i.e. SSH)?

  In multithreaded .NET programming, what are the decision criteria for using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem versus starting my own thread via new Thread() and Thread.Start()? In a server app (let's say, an ASP.NET app or a WCF service) I think the ThreadPool is always there and available. What about in a client app, like a WinForms or WPF app? Is there a cost to spin up the thread pool? If I just want 3 or 4 threads to work for a short period on some computation, is it better to QUWI or to Thread.Start().

  Hallo everybody I have the following problem: in MS Word, the left-side (and also the right-side) border is not aligned with the rest of the text on a page. It's actually the text in the first column of a table that is aligned with the text outside the table. And the table border is a little bit to the left. I find this layout quite a bit annoying, as I don't want to have any elements on a page outside the range that is used by normal text.   In Microsoft Word 2007, if I put a passage of text into a column layout that spans two pages, Word first puts everything that fits on the first page into a column layout on the first page, then the rest into a column layout on the second page. I want to prevent this breaking. The question is difficult to phrase, so here's an example of what I want to accomplish: Instead of a c e b d f ----- g j m h k n i l o I want the columns to be preserved across the page break, like so: a f k b g l ----- c h m d i n e j o Is this possible in Microsoft Word 2007?

• Apache - building extensions with apxs

  Hello, Pardon the newbie question - I haven't worked with manually compiling Apache modules (or anything) before. I am trying to get the mod_concat module going. It seems simple enough - just requires downloading the mod_concat.c file and then running: axps -c mod_concat.c This is new to me. Does it matter which directory I put mod_concat.c before running this command? I ran it from my home directory, and I see some new files - mod_concat.la, mod_concat.lo, mod_concat.o, and mod_concat.slo - along with a new subfolder called .libs/ that contains mod_concat.so along with some other files. I'm not sure where to go from here, I have a feeling these files were created in the wrong place. Don't I need mod_concat.so to be in my apache modules directory with the rest? • Brand new Lenovo u410 heats up around touchpad

  My Lenovo u410 started heating around the right palm rest minutes after I unpacked it! I am devastated, because I bought this for programming, and it's impossible to type on this for extended periods with the surface getting so hot. I haven't run any serious programs on it yet, so the processor has been pretty much idle. I've been Googling this problem, and found only one person who had this issue too. Is this is a defect in the product? Why aren't many others getting this problem? I bought it via newegg.com and as per their policy you can't return a product once you've opened it. Specs: Core i5, 6 GB RAM, 750 GB harddisk. Running Windows 8.

• Yum Update fails due to conflicting perl packages

  Hi I have a CentOS 5.2 i386 Production box with Qmail, LAMP etc now since it showed me that it could upgrade to 5.3, i downloaded all the packages using yum update However, the update fails due to perl packages conflicting I believe that while installing Qmail, I had tried for Mailscanner and thus it upgraded the per itself I read somewhere that we can uninstall the conflicting rpms and then go for the upgrade But, I am about 50 % sure that if I go ahead and uninstall perl, my server will crash like a falling house of cards Also, perl is needed by variety of packages working including vpopmail etc Thus, I request anyone to please tell me if we have a safer solution to this IF there is no solution to this, then can somebody please teach me how to backup and restore Qmail as it is. I can handle the rest of the things I sincerely appreciate those who have read and even thought about my problem In anticipation of a solution Regards amRit

  Hello everybody. I'm building a Visual Studio Package and associated with it, I have an app.config file (which contains some information about connecting to a WCF service). As far as I can tell, this package is actually connecting to the devnev.exe.config configuration file (if I use AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetupInformation.ConfigurationFile), it will retrieve the path to the devnev.exe.config Firstly, is this correct? Shouldn't the package automatically pick up the app.config file? If this is the case, then how can I make the project use the app.config file? I'm running VS2010 Ultimate, programming in C#. Thanks!

  I watch some video and read articles about MVVM pattern and start thinking how should I implement it in my Silverlight app. So at first I create Silverlight application. I think that for clear view I create 3 folders: View - for each user control page in my app, ViewModel - for c# class which will querying date and Model- Entity Data Model of my SQL Server or Oracle Database. And now I am confused, cause I want to implement *WCF/RIA Services/Web services* in my project. In which folder should I put in class of services? I see in examples that Services take date and filtering it and then output data was binding in View - so It looks as ViewModel. But I was sure that someone use Services in Model and that I want to do. But how? Can someone explain me implementing Services as Model? Is my point of view at MVVM is correctly?

  We are creating a modular Web Site Project and all the UI is based on simple html pages with javascript widgets. These widgets obtain the data from a WCF class located in the app_code folder. Each widget has 3 files [ js, css , cs] and an image directory: , and we want all these files to be located under the same directory, say: /widgets/mywidget/ The problem is that the .cs file needs to be in the app_code folder to be compiled dynamically and that would break our widget modularity forcing the installator to distribute the widget code in two places. One of the options is use compiled assemblies instead of .cs files and use Assembly.Load() or smthg similar to load them when needed. What other options do you see?

• Juniper SRX1400 VPN

  I have been trying to set up a client VPN on a Juniper SRX1400 without much success. All documentation I found from Juniper and elsewhere does a lot of other (difficult and wonderful) things other than the simple things I want to do. We already have a VPN running on CISCO PIX hardware which we need to put to rest and we pretty much like to replicate the functionality, which is: 1) client makes a request to the outside interface of the SRX1400, 2) client gets authenticated, 3) if successful, then client is assigned all the usual DHCP stuff and becomes part of the network. What privileges this DHCP assigned network has, should be configurable of course with the usual routing/filtering methods. Am I asking for too much from the SRX for this kind of thing? Should I ditch the SRX for VPN and revert to an OpenVPN solution that I had working some time back also and was amazed at the ease of configuration, functionality and features?
