  • Is it possible to run dhcpd3 as non-root user in a chroot jail?

    Hi everyone. I would like to run dhcpd3 from a chroot jail on Debian Lenny. At the moment, I can run it as root from my jail. Now I want to do this as non-root user (as "-u blah -t /path/to/jail" Bind option). If I start my process like this : start-stop-daemon --chroot /home/jails/dhcp --chuid dhcp \ --start --pidfile /home/jails/dhcp/var/run/dhcp.pid --exec /usr/sbin/dhcpd3 I get stuck with these errors : Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Server V3.1.1 Copyright 2004-2008 Internet Systems Consortium.     I'm writing a PHP script that downloads a series of generated files (using wget) into a directory, and then zips then up, using the zip command. The downloads work perfectly, and the zipping mostly works. I run the command: zip -r /var/www/oraviewer/rgn_download/download/fcst_20100318_0319.zip /var/www/oraviewer/rgn_download/download/fcst_20100318_0319 which yields a zip file with all the downloaded files, but it contains the full /var/www/oraviewer/rgn_download/download/ directories, before reaching the fcst_20100318_0319/ directory. I'm probably just missing a flag, or something small, from the zip command, but how do I get it to use fcst_20100318_0319/ as the root directory?

  • Does a mobile app need more access than the public API of a site?

    I have a site with a public API, and some mobile app developers have been brought in to produce an iPhone app for the site. They insist they need to see the database schema, but as I understand it, they should only need access to the documented public API. Am I right? Is there something I've missed? I've told them that if there's a feature missing or data they require I can extend the API so that they can access it. I thought a web service API held to much the same principles as OOP object API's, in that the implementation details should be hidden as much as possible. I'm not a mobile app developer so if there is something I don't quite see then please let me know. Any insight or help will be much appreciated.

I have a pretty good familiarity with the main concepts: web app framework, modeling, queues, memcache, django templates, etc. Where I think I'm lacking is in methodology. Architecting the app, using git for versioning, designing an writing unit tests. I'm totally convinced to incorporate these practices in my development style, and have started reading up on them. However I've learned that I'm a much faster learner when I have someone experienced to ask questions to and interact with. IRC channels and forums like stack overflow are great. But sometimes you want something more dynamic that produces results faster. So my question is how can a person find an experienced engineer that is familiar with the technologies he uses and that is willing to give them a couple of hours of Skype coaching sessions per week in return for an hourly fee...

While reading the docs on deploying the app to the app store, I came across some drivel regarding having to go through a 30 - 60 day government vetting process just to ship an app that simply connects to an HTTPS server. The app was running as a home screen app and during use requested access to the camera roll on the phone which I allowed, this has added a toggle in settings privacy photos on the phone for my web app. I've since abandoned this web app and deleted the home screen icon but the toggle still shows in the privacy settings, I'd like to remove this toggle but I can't seem to find a way to do so.     I have Eclipse projects and ".project" file in them, the directory structure looks like 'myProject/.project'. I want to copy these '.project' files to another directory, but I want the enclosing directory name to be preserved. Let's say I have 'a/myProject/.project', I want to copy 'myProject/.project' to 'b', so it be 'b/myProject/.project', but 'b/myProject' doesn't exist. When I try in a: cp -r ./myProject/.project ../b it copies only '.project' file itself, without 'myProject' directory. Please advise.

  • ldap login form works, but need to add active-directory group access

    I created a form that asks you to log in, then verifies the user/pass against the ldap server/active-directory, if successful, it creates a session, which will be checked on every page. Now I want to check the session, which is the username of the person who is logged in, and do a search for them using ldap_search, so I can check what group they belong to and pass that group thru a function to verify that they can view that page. Each page will accessible to a certain group or groups of users, which those groups are defined within Active Directory. I am unsure on how I can do that using ldap_search, or maybe that is just one piece of the puzzle I am trying to solve. Any help is appreciated - thank you!   • Querying Active Directory in ruby app on Windows box

    I have a small ruby app in which I'm trying to query some information from Active Directory. The app will be run by a Windows user who is already logged in. It looks like the ruby-net-ldap gem wants me to connect to an LDAP server using an IP address, port and then pass my username and password. Is there a way to achieve this (with a different gem, say) so that I don't have to pass this information (I don't have the current user's password for example, so that's not going to work)? I'm also hosting a Trac website on our intranet (which is written in Python if I remember correctly and that seems to know the current Windows username and domain. If it can do it, surely my little ruby app can access this information too?

  • Images not shown when publishing MVC application to virtual directory inside default web-site

    Hi! I am developing an application using ASP.NET MVC 1 and VS2008. When I deploy it to the default web-site in my IIS6 on WinXP, all images are shown correctly, path to any given image is localhost/Content/ImagesUI/[image].[ext] When I deploy it to the virtual directory, created inside the same site, any image request returns IIS standard 404 error page, while the path is localhost/[DirectoryName]/Content/ImagesUI/[image].[ext] - that seems to be correct, true? I am mapping .* to c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll in both site and directory configurations. When this mapping is removed, images are shown correctly. However, all other URLs do not work, of course. When I am trying to open an image in browser using the URL to it, aspnet_wp.exe process is not even started (I restarted IIS to test it) - I merely get 404 or the image, depending on the presence of * mapping. Thus, I suppose it has nothing to do neither with routes registered for MVC, nor with ASP. The solution that I found is to make Content folder a virtual directory and remove * mapping from its configuration. While that's OK to some extent, I want a better solution, which will explain and eliminate the cause of the problem, not just workaround it. Thanks for your help!

    I am using Mail.app (running snow leopard) to connect to my email account on my school's Exchange 2007 server. I get my Inbox just fine, and iCal connects to my Outlook Calendar just fine, but I cannot seem to get any of the Exchange Public Folders that I can automatically see when I am using Outlook on a Windows box.     About an year ago I installed gnome fonts on my MacBook Pro and I use them for Terminal.app Today I was using Terminal with three windows open and suddenly the app has quit (I don't know if I accidentally pressed command+q) but when I reopened the application fonts looks strange. I had a screenshot taken before the accident I did the same screenshot now and here's the result I don't know what's happened, I tried to reinstall the fonts, restarted the computer, but with no luck. One more thing, I use an external screen, I read some posts regarding font issues with external monitors but I had this monitor before this accident and everything worked fine until now. Please help me to solve this because my eyes were used to that font and now it looks weird to see this different font

  • Meta key in Terminal.app vs national characters

    I'm using Terminal.app, and I'd like to use emacs running inside - either locally, or after sshing to remote server. Problem is, I can't get working Meta modifier. Namely, if I enable 'Use option as meta key', Option key works like proper Meta, but I lose ability to enter Polish diacritics (aelósznzc), that are entered with right Option. If I disable 'Use option as meta key', my Meta is gone, but I can again use Polish characters. In this state they appear only with right Option modifier, so I guess it's Terminal.app's fault that it doesn't make a difference between left and right Option key, when the relevant preference is selected. What are my options then? Is there a good solution for my problem? I can always use ESC as a poor man's Meta replacement, but I don't like that idea.

  • Mail.app Bug -- Keeps Showing Messages

    Hi, I'm running Mail.app on my Mac (Snow Leopard). Two GMail accounts are linked to it using POP. There is an annoying bug which causes certain messages from one of the account to show up in my Inbox. They are always messages I sent to a certain account, and are 6-7 messages from one thread. If I delete them, they just show up again if I restart Mail.app or switch to a different mailbox and back, although the number of messages goes down, until it reaches one, and goes back to six-seven. The only solution I have found is to delete the offending thread from within GMail, except that then another thread takes its place and starts annoying me. Any solution?
