  • Performance problems - Jira running on Ubuntu over VMware ESX 4.0 maxing out all 4 vCPUs.

    We are running Jira on a box under VMware ESX 4.0 and performance is vaiable to say the least. The physical box has 12 Gig RAM and 4x Xeon 2.26 GHz CPUs. vCentre is telling us the CPUs are not maxed out at any time, RAM is fine too. When we issue a request to the host it sometimes maxes out all 4 vCPUs. Sometimes it's quick, sometimes very very slow. There doesn't seem to be a pattern. Any ideas?

    I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 that is not join to any domain. I have developed an web application that will display the domain name and the username on the server itself. However, when I publish my web application to IIS, it always fail and display different types of error messages (because I change settings such as Enabled ASP.NET Impersonation, Disable Anonymous Authentication, Set Application Pool to Classic and so on) So, I was wondering if it is necessary for the Server to join in a domain so that I can reduce any unnecessary error message and be able to zoom into the correct direction?

    Howdy, I have a database I am using the Visual Studio 2010 Database Project tool vsdbcmd.exe to create a schema from. vsdbcmd /a:Import /dsp:Sql /model:"Database" /cs:"Server=SqlServer; Initial Catalog=DatabaseName; Integrated Security=SSPI;" The tool is reporting an error: Error TSD02016, Gen-259 (12,50) The column name is not valid. No table name was specified. How would I go about pinpointing where this error is originating? I have found one resource on the internet (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com....) that points to a possibility of a keyword used incorrectly, but the error messages are not the same. What is Gen-259?   • Is using ReaderWriterLockSlim a bad idea for long lived objects?

    I am trying to track down the reason that an application has periods of bad performance. I think that I have linked the bad performance to the points where Garbage Collection is run for Gen 2. I get a profiling tool (CLR Profiler) and was quite surprised by the results. In my test I was spawning and processing millions of objects. However the biggest hog of the Gen 2 space comes from something Called Threading.ReaderWriterCount which comes from System.Threading.ReaderWriterLockSlim::InitializeThreadCounts. I know nothing about the inner workings of ReaderWriterLockSlim but from what I am getting from the reports it is okay to have 1 or 2 Locks for longer lived objects but try and use other locks if you are going to have many smaller objects. Does anyone have any comments or experience with ReaderWriterLockSlim and/or what to look for if it seems that GC is killing application performance?

  • Java HotSpot 1.6 VM, Garbage Collection - Scary PermGen

    Hi, My app shows rising 'Old Generation'/'Tenured Generation' size, and when this reaches the max limit for 'Old Gen', then suddenly PermGen size increases. Here are my generation sizings: -Xmx1200m -Xms1200m -Xmn450m -XX:MaxPermSize=600m -XX:+UseParallelGC This is on 32 bit Fedora so can't have a bigger heap than this. The app is not doing any fancy classloading, though it is using Spring IOC and Hibernate, the Spring App-context.xml defines some 1000 Beans. This app starts with 175MB PermGen, which steadily increases to ~250MB in few hrs, stays that way till Tenured Generation reached ~780 MB, then permgen jumps to ~500MB while Old Gen drops to ~500MB. This forces me to restart the App on daily basis, and gives me real scare of looming OutOfMemory Error.. Any insights would be very helpful. Thanks Gala101

To make sure it wasn't caching I removed any possible caching via the request object's cache policy and removing all cache whenever webViewDidFinishLoading is called. Same app, same url, everything is the same but the device itself. Why? FYI: shouldStartLoadWithRequest:navigationType: is called on the simulator when goBack is called

I know this particular piece of code can be rewritten to be cleaner, but I just wonder if my analysis is correct.     Hello i Have a programa that has starts in a main sub, it executes some code and after that code it opens a form using System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run(General) General is a form but also a class, so I wonder what it the pros or cons of using : System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run(General) vs Dim gen as general System.Windows.Forms.Application.Run(gen) In the first I am opening a form using the name of the class, and I read that it is best to declare the instance as an object variable.     Looking for a way to simulate nested loops (or a cartesian product) i came across the itertools.product function. i need a function or piece of code that receive a list of integers as input and returns a specific generator. example: input = [3,2,4] - gen = product(xrange(3),xrange(2),xrange(4)) or input = [2,4,5,6] - gen = product(xrange(2),xrange(4),xrange(5),xrange(6)) as the size of the lists varies i am very confused in how to do that without the need of a lot of precoding based on a crazy amount of ifs and the size of the list. also is there a difference in calling product(range(3)) or product(xrange(3))?

  • Interface contracts – forcing code contracts through interfaces

    Sometimes we need a way to make different implementations of same interface follow same rules. One option is to duplicate contracts to all implementation but this is not good option because we have duplicated code then. The other option is to force contracts to all implementations at interface level. In this posting I will show you how to do it using interface contracts and contracts class. Using code from previous example about unit testing code with code contracts I will go further and force contracts at interface level. Here is the code from previous example. Although we can write new implementations as we want these implementations need exactly the same contracts. If we are using generators somewhere else then code contracts are not with them anymore. To solve the problem we will force code contracts at interface level. NB! To make the following code work you must enable Contract Reference Assembly building from project settings. Interface contracts and contracts class Interface contains no code – only definitions of members that implementing type must have. But code contracts must be defined in body of member they are part of. To get over this limitation, code contracts are defined in separate contracts class. Interface is bound to this class by special attribute and contracts class refers to interface through special attribute. Here is the IRandomGenerator with contracts and contracts class. Also I write simple fake so we can test contracts easily based only on interface mock.   • Error when plugging iPod Touch into MacBook

    Whenever I plug my iPod Touch (2nd gen) into my MacBook running Ubuntu 10.10 I get the following error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) It will show up in the file browser but whenever I try to mount it I get that error. EDIT: I thought that this might be because I had it plugged into a dock, but I tried plugging it in directly to the MacBook with the USB Cable and it still does not work, same error message.

  • Repository/Updating/Upgrading Issue

    The other day I was asked to upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10, at the time I was busy and hit no. I can not upgrade/update at this point, I get (error -11) or a 404 in terminal. In the software updater I get 'failed to download repository information.' I have tried changing my "Download From" setting to "Best" to "Main" and even a few other countries. And in "Other Software" I have tried disabling packages, but doesn't seem to help what so ever. I have tried several of the other commands to try and fix it, such as -fix missing or sudo apt-get update clean. P.S. This has also affected my thunderbird client, I cannot send/receive emails. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. This is the short version, but looks exactly like this fairly consistently. Sometimes it downloads, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it tells me I have an update, and doesn't do anything. If it helps, I have recently had issues trying to install Samba as well, and connecting to the office's NAS Drive. Which works now, but I had to edit /etc/fstab/ and a few other things trying to get that to work as well. I understand it could also be a DNS problem, but this has been going on for a few days, as well as I've already tried changing my DNS server via my computer, however I am not allowed to alter the DNS on our company's router.

I downloaded a program gingkocad as a tar file, opened the package with archive manager and created a folder for the package contents.   • Vostro 3560 Wireless on Ubuntu 12.10

    I have been using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on a Dell Vostro 3560 for some time now. At first I had issues with the wireless but I was pointed to a driver from Ubuntu 11.xx for a Broadcom BCM43142 and that did work! however with the upgrade to 12.10 I find myself at a lost because the driver will not work anymore. When trying to reinstall it I get "Driver of bad quality" I still install it but it just wont work. I cant seem to find anything on this issue for 12.10 and didn't know if anyone had any advice or if someone could point me in the right direction on resources to write my own driver for it. As I know C/C++ but have never written a driver for a Linux machine before. Thanks for any help! To be more clear I installed Ubuntu 12.10 Desktop on my Dell Vostro 3560 laptop. When I log in, my wireless card isn't visible in the Network Manager popup menu, although the wired network shows up there.
