• sort data in c language

- by ANIL MANE
Hello C experts, I need little help on following requirement, as I know very little about C syntaxes. I have data in a file like this 73 54 57 [52] 75 73 65 [23] 65 54 57 [22] 22 59 71 [12] 22 28 54 [2] 65 22 54 73 [12] 65 28 54 73 [52] 22 28 65 73 [42] 65 54 57 73 [22] 22 28 54 73 [4] Where values in bracket denotes the occurrence of that series. I need to sort this data based on the occurrence of the data descending with maximum elements on the top as follows 65 28 54 73 [52] 22 28 65 73 [42] 65 54 57 73 [22] 65 22 54 73 [12] 22 28 54 73 [4] 28 59 71 [122] 73 54 57 [52] 22 28 65 [26] .. . . . and so on... Can someone give me a quick code for this. Thanks in advance.

• How to transform a vector<int> into a string?

- by Legend
I am trying to pass a value from C++ to TCL. As I cannot pass pointers without the use of some complicated modules, I was thinking of converting a vector to a char array and then passing this as a null terminated string (which is relatively easy). I have a vector as follows: 12, 32, 42, 84 which I want to convert into something like: "12 32 42 48" The approach I am thinking of is to use an iterator to iterate through the vector and then convert each integer into its string representation and then add it into a char array (which is dynamically created initially by passing the size of the vector). Is this the right way or is there a function that already does this?

• On reference_wrapper and callable objects

- by Nicola Bonelli
Given the following callable object: struct callable : public std::unary_function <void, void> { void operator()() const { std::cout << "hello world" << std::endl; } }; a std::tr1::reference_wrapper< calls through it: callable obj; std::tr1::ref(obj)(); Instead, when the operator() accepts an argument: struct callable : public std::unary_function <int, void> { void operator()(int n) const { std::cout << n << std::endl; } }; std::tr1::bind accepts a reference_wrapper to it as a callable wrapper... callable obj; std::tr1::bind( std::tr1::ref(obj), 42 )(); but what's wrong with this? std::tr1::ref(obj)(42);

• Android getting XML values

- by Nils
Hello, I have the following XML code, which I got by a UPnP device and like to get the res value - the RTSP URL. In this case rtsp://10.42.0.103:554/live.sdp How can I do this? I heard that Android has some built-in support for reading XML. • Deriving streambuf or basic_ostringstream?

- by Helltone
Hi, I want to derive a stringstream so that I can use the operator<< to construct a message which will then be thrown. The API would look like: error("some text") << " more text " << 42 << std::endl; This should do a throw "some text more text 42" So what I did is make an errorbuf (inheriting from streambuf) which overloads the 'overflow' method and then create an ostream(&errorbuf). I wonder if I shouldn't instead inherit from basic_ostringstream or something...

• Operator== in derived class never gets called.

- by Robin Welch
Can someone please put me out of my misery with this? I'm trying to figure out why a derived operator== never gets called in a loop. To simplify the example, here's my Base and Derived class: class Base { // ... snipped bool operator==( const Base& other ) const { return name_ == other.name_; } }; class Derived : public Base { // ... snipped bool operator==( const Derived& other ) const { return ( static_cast<const Base&>( *this ) == static_cast<const Base&>( other ) ? age_ == other.age_ : false ); }; Now when I instantiate and compare like this ... Derived p1("Sarah", 42); Derived p2("Sarah", 42); bool z = ( p1 == p2 ); ... all is fine. Here the operator== from Derived gets called, but when I loop over a list, comparing items in a list of pointers to Base objects ... list<Base*> coll; coll.push_back( new Base("fred") ); coll.push_back( new Derived("sarah", 42) ); // ... snipped // Get two items from the list. Base& obj1 = **itr; Base& obj2 = **itr2; cout << obj1.asString() << " " << ( ( obj1 == obj2 ) ? "==" : "!=" ) << " " << obj2.asString() << endl; Here asString() (which is virtual and not shown here for brevity) works fine, but obj1 == obj2 always calls the Base operator== even if the two objects are Derived. I know I'm going to kick myself when I find out what's wrong, but if someone could let me down gently it would be much appreciated.

• Implicit parameter in Scalaz

Can I achieve the same result with fewer steps?

• Strange compilation error - GAS3 generated class

But I am getting this strange error while building one of the classes using GAS3 [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,29] Syntax error: expecting identifier before use. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,52] Syntax error: expecting leftparen before leftbrace. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,52] Syntax error: expecting identifier before leftbrace. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,52] Syntax error: expecting rightparen before leftbrace. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,29] Syntax error: expecting identifier before use. public function get use():String { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,42] Syntax error: expecting leftparen before leftbrace. public function get use():String { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,42] Syntax error: expecting identifier before leftbrace. public function get use():String { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,42] Syntax error: expecting rightparen before leftbrace. public function get use():String { The java class appears like this @Entity` @Table(name = "mmd_tank_grades_ml") @SuppressWarnings("serial") public class TankGradesMl implements Serializable { .... private String use; @Basic @Column(name = "USE", length = 45) public String getUse() { return use; } public void setUse(String use) { this.use = use; } What am I doing wrong? How to resolve this error? I tried by changing the java source variable like below private String usedFor; ---- @Basic @Column(name = "USE", length = 45) public String getUsedFor() { return usedFor; } /** * @param use * new value for use */ public void setUsedFor(String usedFor) { this.usedFor = usedFor; } and the error is gone...not sure why it was throwing exception for 'use'..too small for variable name :-)

• How, exactly, does the double-stringize trick work?

- by Peter Hosey
At least some C preprocessors let you stringize the value of a macro, rather than its name, by passing it through one function-like macro to another that stringizes it: #define STR1(x) #x #define STR2(x) STR1(x) #define THE_ANSWER 42 #define THE_ANSWER_STR STR2(THE_ANSWER) /* "42" */ Example use cases here. This does work, at least in GCC and Clang (both with -std=c99), but I'm not sure how it works in C-standard terms. Is this behavior guaranteed by C99? If so, how does C99 guarantee it? If not, at what point does the behavior go from C-defined to GCC-defined?

• Stop Rails from unloading a module in development mode

- by Gareth
I have a module in my Rails app that lives in /lib module MyModule mattr_accessor :the_variable class << self def setup yield this end end end From my environments/#{RAILS_ENV}.rb file I can then set an environment-specific value for the_variable: MyModule.setup do |my_module_config| my_module_config.the_variable = 42 end This is lovely, and it seems to work (almost) fine. The problem is that in development mode, Rails via ActiveSupport::Dependencies unloads a load of modules, and reloads them in time for the new request. This is usually a great behaviour because it means you don't need to restart your localhost server when you make a code change. However, this also clears out my initialised the_variable variable, and when the next request comes in the initialiser (obviously) isn't run again. The net effect is that subsequent requests end up having MyModule.the_variable set to nil rather than the 42 that I'm looking for. I'm trying to work out how to stop Rails unloading my module at the end of the request, or alternatively find another way to cleanly provide environment specific configuration for my modules. Any ideas? :-/

• DateTimeAxis - set Label to display Date + Time

- by Jay
Hi, Is there a way in flex 3 chart component to display both the date and time using horizontal DateTimeAxis? Currently the DateTimeAxis element has an attribute dataunits which allows to set the value to any of "milliseconds|seconds|minutes|hours|days|weeks|months|years" but I want to display the label as "2009/09/15 06:00:00" which includes the day and the time too. Here is the sample that i'm using [Bindable] public var deck:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([ {date:"2009-09-15 06:00:00", close:42.71}, {date:"2009-09-16 06:15:00", close:42.99} ]); public function myParseFunction(s:String):Date { var sDate = s.substring(0,s.indexOf(" ")); var sTime = s.substring(s.indexOf(" ")); var aDate = sDate.split("-"); var aTime = sTime.split(":"); return new Date(aDate[0],(aDate[1]*1-1),aDate[2],aTime[0],aTime[1],aTime[2],0); } ]] Thanks in advance.

• Excluding a specific substring from a regex

- by Matt S
I'm attempting to mangle a SQL query via regex. My goal is essentially grab what is between FROM and ORDER BY, if ORDER BY exists. So, for example for the query: SELECT * FROM TableA WHERE ColumnA=42 ORDER BY ColumnB it should capture TableA WHERE ColumnA=42, and it should also capture if the ORDER BY expression isn't there. The closest I've been able to come is SELECT (.*) FROM (.*)(?=(ORDER BY)) which fails without the ORDER BY. Hopefully I'm missing something obvious. I've been hammering in Expresso for the past hour trying to get this.

• How to evaluate text strings provided by sed/grep/whatever?

- by T.J.
This is for UNIX shell programming. It have to be supported by multiple UNIX platforms including Solaris, Linux, and AIX. I have this scenario -- I am to read from a text file a string that may or may not contain an environment variable that may or may not be defined. For example: <foo.bar> This error code was found: $(error_code) I have the following code: statement=$(sed -n $1'p' $messagefile) echo $echo_flag $statement $1 = line number supplied to this particular function/script. $messagefile = filename of log file. $echo_flag = "-e" in Linux, otherwise, empty. $(error_code) = 42. Instead of getting this when running: <foo.bar> This error code was found: 42 I still get this: <foo.bar> This error code was found: $(error_code) How exactly do I tell the shell script that the value of statement should be evaluated further beyond what sed have done?

• Templating Word Documents in C#

- by NullGeo
I was wondering if there is a library out there such that it could give me the ability to fill in word templates with custom values. For example: Following could be the content of the Word Document {Address} {PhoneNumber} Hello {Name}, How are you doing? In C# I would like to do something like this to replace all the placeholders in the Word document: using(WordDocument doc = WordDocument.Load("Mail.docx")){ var person = new {Name = "John Smith", Address="42 Wallaby Way, Sydney", PhoneNumber="555-555-5555"}; doc.Template(person); doc.Print(); } The resulting document would look like this: 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney 555-555-5555 Hello John Smith, How are you doing? Any libraries out there (preferably free) that let's me do this? Edit: I am not asking you to find anything that let's me do this. If that was the case, I would do a Google search by myself. Honestly, all I am asking is "has anybody used a library in the past to do this exact thing."

• Vim syntax/compile-time error highlighting

- by Tim Nordenfur
Is there a Vim script that periodically tries to compile/interpret the code that I'm working on, and highlights syntax errors? I'd like it to point out that something is wrong between these lines: int a = 42 cout << a << endl; Such a thing would save me loads of time. I'm primarily searching for a Perl-syntax checker, but I'd also be interested in similar plugins for other languages. Update: Another error I'd like it to point out: int a == 42; cout << a << endl;

• Why is Rake not able to invoke multiple tasks consecutively?

- by PandaWood
I have a Rake task which I have simplified below. I'm using Ruby 1.9 on Windows. Perhaps you would like to guess the outcome of calling the Rake task "list_all_levels" below? It should be: "Hello level 1" "Hello level 2" "Hello level 3" But for reasons unknown to me, it prints only "Hello level 1" and then stops. That is, it always invokes only the first task. If I change the first line to pass the arg "42", it would print "Hello level 42" and then stop. I'm wondering why does it not invoke the task 3 times and print all 3 lines? And is there any way to get it to work how I would expect? task :list_all_levels => [] do Rake::Task[:list].invoke 1 Rake::Task[:list].invoke 2 Rake::Task[:list].invoke 3 end task :list, [:level] => [] do |t, args| puts "Hello level #{args.level}" end

How would you create a column(s) in the below pandas DataFrame where the new columns are the expanding mean/median of 'val' for each 'Mod_ID_x'. Imagine this as if were time series data and 'ID' 1-2 was on Day 1 and 'ID' 3-4 was on Day 2. • variables in batch scripts

- by richzilla
I'm trying to set up a batch file to automatically deploy a php app to a web server. Basically, what I want is an entirely automated process: I would just give it a revision number from the repository and it would then export the files, upload via ftp and then update deployment info at the repo host (codebase). However, I'm starting from scratch here. How would I set up a batch file to accept a variable when it was run? For example, the command myfile.bat /revision 42 should deploy revision 42 to my server. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

• python equivalent of filter() getting two output lists

- by FX
Let's say I have a list, and a filtering function. Using something like >>> filter(lambda x: x > 10, [1,4,12,7,42]) [12, 42] I can get the elements matching the criterion. Is there a function I could use that would output two lists, one of elements matching, one of the remaining elements? I could call the filter() function twice, but that's kinda ugly :) Edit: the order of elements should be conserved, and I may have identical elements multiple times.

• on coding style

- by user12607414
I vastly prefer coding to discussing coding style, just as I would prefer to write poetry instead of talking about how it should be written. Sometimes the topic cannot be put off, either because some individual coder is messing up a shared code base and needs to be corrected, or (worse) because some officious soul has decided, "what we really need around here are some strongly enforced style rules!" Neither is the case at the moment, and yet I will venture a post on the subject. The following are not rules, but suggested etiquette. The idea is to allow a coherent style of coding to flourish safely and sanely, as a humane, inductive, social process. Maxim M1: Observe, respect, and imitate the largest-scale precedents available. (Preserve styles of whitespace, capitalization, punctuation, abbreviation, name choice, code block size, factorization, type of comments, class organization, file naming, etc., etc., etc.) Maxim M2: Don't add weight to small-scale variations. (Realize that Maxim M1 has been broken many times, but don't take that as license to create further irregularities.) Maxim M3: Listen to and rely on your reviewers to help you perceive your own coding quirks. (When you review, help the coder do this.) Maxim M4: When you touch some code, try to leave it more readable than you found it. (When you review such changes, thank the coder for the cleanup. When you plan changes, plan for cleanups.) On the Hotspot project, which is almost 1.5 decades old, we have often practiced and benefited from such etiquette. The process is, and should be, inductive, not prescriptive. An ounce of neighborliness is better than a pound of police-work. Reality check: If you actually look at (or live in) the Hotspot code base, you will find we have accumulated many annoying irregularities in our source base. I suppose this is the normal condition of a lived-in space. Unless you want to spend all your time polishing and tidying, you can't live without some smudge and clutter, can you? Final digression: Grammars and dictionaries and other prescriptive rule books are sometimes useful, but we humans learn and maintain our language by example not grammar. The same applies to style rules. Actually, I think the process of maintaining a clean and pleasant working code base is an instance of a community maintaining its common linguistic identity. BTW, I've been reading and listening to John McWhorter lately with great pleasure. (If you end with a digression, is it a tail-digression?)
