  • Conversion from Iphone Core Surface RGB Frame into ffmepg AVFarme

    - by Sridhar
    Hello, I am trying to convert Core Surface RGB frame buffer(Iphone) to ffmpeg Avfarme to encode into a movie file. But I am not getting the correct video output (video showing colors dazzling not the correct picture) I guess there is something wrong with converting from core surface frame buffer into AVFrame. Here is my code : Surface *surface = [[Surface alloc]initWithCoreSurfaceBuffer:coreSurfaceBuffer]; [surface lock]; unsigned int height = surface.height; unsigned int width = surface.width; unsigned int alignmentedBytesPerRow = (width * 4); if (!readblePixels) { readblePixels = CGBitmapAllocateData(alignmentedBytesPerRow * height); NSLog(@"alloced readablepixels"); } unsigned int bytesPerRow = surface.bytesPerRow; void *pixels = surface.baseAddress; for (unsigned int j = 0; j < height; j++) { memcpy(readblePixels + alignmentedBytesPerRow * j, pixels + bytesPerRow * j, bytesPerRow); } pFrameRGB->data[0] = readblePixels; // I guess here is what I am doing wrong. pFrameRGB->data[1] = NULL; pFrameRGB->data[2] = NULL; pFrameRGB->data[3] = NULL; pFrameRGB->linesize[0] = pCodecCtx->width; pFrameRGB->linesize[1] = 0; pFrameRGB->linesize[2] = 0; pFrameRGB->linesize[3] = 0; sws_scale (img_convert_ctx, pFrameRGB->data, pFrameRGB->linesize, 0, pCodecCtx->height, pFrameYUV->data, pFrameYUV->linesize); Please help me out. Thanks, Raghu

  • Removing and adding persistent stores to a core data application

    - by mkko
I'm using core data on an iPhone application. I have multiple persisntent stores that I'm switching from one to another so that only one of the stores can be active at the time. I have one managed object context and the different persistent stores are similar in data format (sqlite) and share the same managed object model. I'm importing the data to each persistent store from a respective XML file. For the first import everything works fine, but after I remove the imported data (the persistent store and the physical file) and then re-import, core data gives me an error: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'The NSManagedObject with ID:0x3c14e00 <x-coredata://6D14F11E-2EA7-4141-9BE8-53747DE6FCC6/Book/p2> has been invalidated.' This error comes from the save: of NSManagedObjectContext. Before re-importing, i'm removing the persistent store from the persistent store coordinator and removing the physical file, so everything should be as if re-importing was done for the first time. Alos, the objects in managed object context are removed and the context is sent the reset: message (I don't know if this is actually needed). Could some one help me out here? How should the persistent store be switched? I'm basically using the same logic as tutored here: http://blog.sallarp.com/iphone-core-data-uitableview-drill-down/ Thanks in advance.

  • Core data and @unionOfSets

    - by KevinD
Im having trouble using the @unionOfSets on my core-data objects. NSLog(@"%@", [NSApp valueForKeyPath:@"delegate.mainWindowController.sidebarViewController.arrayController.selection.list.listElement"]); Prints the set of listElements as expected 2010-03-24 18:11:15.844 Pirouette[7459:80f] Relationship objects for {( (entity: PRPlaylistElement; id: 0x10a71b0 ; data: ), (entity: PRPlaylistElement; id: 0x10ac7d0 ; data: ), (entity: PRPlaylistElement; id: 0x10acf60 ; data: ), (entity: PRPlaylistElement; id: 0x10a6850 ; data: ) However when I try to get the set of file objects for each of the list elements. NSLog(@"%@", [NSApp valueForKeyPath:@"delegate.mainWindowController.sidebarViewController.arrayController.selection.list.listElement.@unionOfArrays.file"]); I get the following error 2010-03-24 18:16:45.843 Pirouette[7505:80f] An uncaught exception was raised 2010-03-24 18:16:45.844 Pirouette[7505:80f] [<NSCFSet 0x10415e0> valueForKeyPath:]: this class does not implement the unionOfArrays operation. 2010-03-24 18:16:45.847 Pirouette[7505:80f] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '[<NSCFSet 0x10415e0> valueForKeyPath:]: this class does not implement the unionOfArrays operation.' Confused because I thought calling to-many relationships in core-data were NSSets.

  • Core Data 1-to-many relationship: List all related objects as section header in UITableView

    - by Snej
Hi: I struggle with Core Data on the iPhone about the following: I have a 1-to-many relationship in Core Data. Assume the entities are called recipe and category. A category can have many recipes. I accomplished to get all recipes listed in a UITableView with section headers named after the category. What i want to achieve is to list all categories as section header, even those which have no recipe: category1 <--- this one should be displayed too category2 recipe_x recipe_y category3 recipe_z NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Recipe" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; [fetchRequest setFetchBatchSize:10]; NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor1 = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"category.categoryName" ascending:YES]; NSSortDescriptor *sortDescriptor2 = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"recipeName" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:sortDescriptor1,sortDescriptor2, nil]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; NSFetchedResultsController *aFetchedResultsController = [[NSFetchedResultsController alloc] initWithFetchRequest:fetchRequest managedObjectContext:managedObjectContext sectionNameKeyPath:@"category.categoryName" cacheName:@"Recipes"]; What is the most elegant way to achieve this with core data?

  • What changes in Core Data after a save?

    - by Splash6
I have a Core Data based mac application that is working perfectly well until I save a file. When I save a file it seems like something changes in core data because my original fetch request no longer fetches anything. This is the fetch request that works before saving but returns an empty array after saving. NSEntityDescription *outputCellEntityDescription = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"OutputCell" inManagedObjectContext:[[self document] managedObjectContext]]; NSFetchRequest *outputCellRequest = [[[NSFetchRequest alloc] init] autorelease]; [outputCellRequest setEntity:outputCellEntityDescription]; NSPredicate *outputCellPredicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"(cellTitle = %@)", outputCellTitle]; [outputCellRequest setPredicate:outputCellPredicate]; NSError *outputCellError = nil; NSArray *outputCellArray = [[[self document] managedObjectContext] executeFetchRequest:outputCellRequest error:&outputCellError]; I have checked with [[[self document] managedObjectContext] registeredObjects] to see that the object still exists after the save and nothing seems to have changed and the object still exists. It is probably something fairly basic but does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? If not can anyone give me any pointers to what might be different in the Core Data model after a save so I might have some clues why the fetch request stops working after saving?

  • strange memory error when deleting object from Core Data

    - by llloydxmas
I have an application that downloads an xml file, parses the file, and creates core data objects while doing so. In the parse code I have a function called 'emptydatacontext' that removes all items from Core Data before creating replacements from the xml file. This method looks like this: -(void) emptyDataContext { NSMutableArray* mutableFetchResults = [CoreDataHelper getObjectsFromContext:@"Condition" :@"road" :NO :managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest * allCon = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [allCon setEntity:[NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Condition" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]]; NSError * error = nil; NSArray * conditions = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:allCon error:&error]; [allCon release]; for (NSManagedObject * condition in conditions) { [managedObjectContext deleteObject:condition]; } } The first time this runs it deletes all objects and functions as it should - creating new objects from the xml file. I created a 'update' button that starts the exact same process of retrieving the file the preceeding as it did the first time. All is well until its time to delete the core data objects again. This 'deleteObject' call creates a "EXC_BAD_ACCESS" error each time. This only happens on the second time through. See this image for the debugger window as it appears when walking through the deletion FOR loop on the second iteration. Conditions is the fetched array of 7 objects with the objects below. Condition should be an individual condition. link text As you can see 'condition' does not match any of the objects in the 'conditions' array. I'm sure this is why I'm getting the memory access errors. Just not sure why this fetch (or the FOR) is returning a wrong reference. All the code that successfully performes this function on the first iteration is used in the second but with very different results. Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Save many-to-one relationship from JSON into Core Data

    - by Snow Crash
I'm wanting to save a Many-to-one relationship parsed from JSON into Core Data. The code that parses the JSON and does the insert into Core Data looks like this: for (NSDictionary *thisRecipe in recipes) { Recipe *recipe = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Recipe" inManagedObjectContext:insertionContext]; recipe.title = [thisRecipe objectForKey:@"Title"]; NSDictionary *ingredientsForRecipe = [thisRecipe objectForKey:@"Ingredients"]; NSArray *ingredientsArray = [ingredientsForRecipe objectForKey:@"Results"]; for (NSDictionary *thisIngredient in ingredientsArray) { Ingredient *ingredient = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Ingredient" inManagedObjectContext:insertionContext]; ingredient.name = [thisIngredient objectForKey:@"Name"]; } } NSSet *ingredientsSet = [NSSet ingredientsArray]; [recipe setIngredients:ingredientsSet]; Notes: "setIngredients" is a Core Data generated accessor method. There is a many-to-one relationship between Ingredients and Recipe However, when I run this I get the following error: NSCFDictionary managedObjectContext]: unrecognized selector sent to instance If I remove the last line (i.e. [recipe setIngredients:ingredientsSet];) then, taking a peek at the SQLite database, I see the Recipe and Ingredients have been stored but no relationship has been created between Recipe and Ingredients Any suggestions as to how to ensure the relationship is stored correctly?

  • Clever ways of implementing different data structures in C & data structures that should be used mor

    - by Yktula
What are some clever (not ordinary) ways of implementing data structures in C, and what are some data structures that should be used more often? For example, what is the most effective way (generating minimal overhead) to implement a directed and cyclic graph with weighted edges in C? I know that we can store the distances in an array as is done here, but what other ways are there to implement this kind of a graph?

  • [Visual C++]Forcing memory alignment of variables/data-structures

    - by John
I'm looking at using SSE and I gather aligning data on 16byte boundaries is recommended. There are two cases to consider: float data[4]; struct myystruct { float x,y,z,w; }; I'm not sure the first case can be done explicitly, though there's perhaps a compiler option I could use? In the second case I remember being able to control packing in old versions of GCC several years back, is this still possible?

  • SQL SERVER – Data Pages in Buffer Pool – Data Stored in Memory Cache

    - by pinaldave
This will drop all the clean buffers so we will be able to start again from there. Now, run the following script and check the execution plan of the query. Have you ever wondered what types of data are there in your cache? During SQL Server Trainings, I am usually asked if there is any way one can know how much data in a table is stored in the memory cache? The more detailed question I usually get is if there are multiple indexes on table (and used in a query), were the data of the single table stored multiple times in the memory cache or only for a single time? Here is a query you can run to figure out what kind of data is stored in the cache. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT COUNT(*) AS cached_pages_count, name AS BaseTableName, IndexName, IndexTypeDesc FROM sys.dm_os_buffer_descriptors AS bd INNER JOIN ( SELECT s_obj.name, s_obj.index_id, s_obj.allocation_unit_id, s_obj.OBJECT_ID, i.name IndexName, i.type_desc IndexTypeDesc FROM ( SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) AS name, index_id ,allocation_unit_id, OBJECT_ID FROM sys.allocation_units AS au INNER JOIN sys.partitions AS p ON au.container_id = p.hobt_id AND (au.type = 1 OR au.type = 3) UNION ALL SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) AS name, index_id, allocation_unit_id, OBJECT_ID FROM sys.allocation_units AS au INNER JOIN sys.partitions AS p ON au.container_id = p.partition_id AND au.type = 2 ) AS s_obj LEFT JOIN sys.indexes i ON i.index_id = s_obj.index_id AND i.OBJECT_ID = s_obj.OBJECT_ID ) AS obj ON bd.allocation_unit_id = obj.allocation_unit_id WHERE database_id = DB_ID() GROUP BY name, index_id, IndexName, IndexTypeDesc ORDER BY cached_pages_count DESC; GO Now let us run the query above and observe the output of the same. We can see in the above query that there are four columns. Cached_Pages_Count lists the pages cached in the memory. BaseTableName lists the original base table from which data pages are cached. IndexName lists the name of the index from which pages are cached. IndexTypeDesc lists the type of index. Now, let us do one more experience here. Please note that you should not run this test on a production server as it can extremely reduce the performance of the database. DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS This will drop all the clean buffers and we will be able to start again from there. Now run following script and check the execution plan for the same. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT UnitPrice, ModifiedDate FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail WHERE SalesOrderDetailID BETWEEN 1 AND 100 GO The execution plans contain the usage of two different indexes. Now, let us run the script that checks the pages cached in SQL Server. It will give us the following output. It is clear from the Resultset that when more than one index is used, datapages related to both or all of the indexes are stored in Memory Cache separately. Let me know what you think of this article. I had a great pleasure while writing this article because I was able to write on this subject, which I like the most. In the next article, we will exactly see what data are cached and those that are not cached, using a few undocumented commands. • Bitmask data insertions in SSDT Post-Deployment scripts

    - by jamiet
On my current project we are using SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) to manage our database schema and one of the tasks we need to do often is insert data into that schema once deployed; the typical method employed to do this is to leverage Post-Deployment scripts and that is exactly what we are doing. Our requirement is a little different though, our data is split up into various buckets that we need to selectively deploy on a case-by-case basis. I was going to use a SQLCMD variable for each bucket (defaulted to some value other than “Yes”) to define whether it should be deployed or not so we could use something like this in our Post-Deployment script: IF ($(DeployBucket1Flag) = 'Yes')BEGIN   :r .\Bucket1.data.sqlENDIF ($(DeployBucket2Flag) = 'Yes')BEGIN   :r .\Bucket2.data.sqlENDIF ($(DeployBucket3Flag) = 'Yes')BEGIN   :r .\Bucket3.data.sqlEND That works fine and is, I’m sure, a very common technique for doing this. It is however slightly ugly because we have to litter our deployment with various SQLCMD variables. My colleague James Rowland-Jones (whom I’m sure many of you know) suggested another technique – bitmasks. I won’t go into detail about how this works (James has already done that at Using a Bitmask - a practical example) but I’ll summarise by saying that you can deploy different combinations of the buckets simply by supplying a different numerical value for a single SQLCMD variable. Each bit of that value’s binary representation signifies whether a particular bucket should be deployed or not. This is better demonstrated using the following simple script (which can be easily leveraged inside your Post-Deployment scripts): /* $(DeployData) is a SQLCMD variable that would, if you were using this in SSDT, be declared in the SQLCMD variables section of your project file. It should contain a numerical value, defaulted to 0. In this example I have declared it using a :setvar statement. Test the affect of different values by changing the :setvar statement accordingly. Examples: :setvar DeployData 1 will deploy bucket 1 :setvar DeployData 2 will deploy bucket 2 :setvar DeployData 3   will deploy buckets 1 & 2 :setvar DeployData 6   will deploy buckets 2 & 3 :setvar DeployData 31  will deploy buckets 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 */ :setvar DeployData 0 DECLARE  @bitmask VARBINARY(MAX) = CONVERT(VARBINARY,$(DeployData)); IF (@bitmask & 1 = 1) BEGIN     PRINT 'Bucket 1 insertions'; END IF (@bitmask & 2 = 2) BEGIN     PRINT 'Bucket 2 insertions'; END IF (@bitmask & 4 = 4) BEGIN     PRINT 'Bucket 3 insertions'; END IF (@bitmask & 8 = 8) BEGIN     PRINT 'Bucket 4 insertions'; END IF (@bitmask & 16 = 16) BEGIN     PRINT 'Bucket 5 insertions'; END An example of running this using DeployData=6 The binary representation of 6 is 110. The second and third significant bits of that binary number are set to 1 and hence buckets 2 and 3 are “activated”. Hope that makes sense and is useful to some of you! @Jamiet P.S. I used the awesome HTML Copy feature of Visual Studio’s Productivity Power Tools in order to format the T-SQL code above for this blog post.

  • populate uipicker view with results from core data DB using an NSArray

    - by Chris
I am trying to populate a UIPickerView with the results of a NSFetchRequest. The results of the NSFetchRequest are then stored in an NSArray. I am using Core Data to interact with the SQLite DB. I have a simple class file that contains a UIPickerView that is associated with a storyboard scene in my project. The header file for the class looks like the following, ViewControllerUsers.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "AppDelegate.h" @interface ViewControllerUsers : UIViewController <NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate, UIPickerViewDelegate, UIPickerViewDataSource> { NSArray *dictionaries; } @property (nonatomic, strong) NSFetchedResultsController *fetchedResultsController; // Core Data @property (strong, nonatomic) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *users; @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIPickerView *uiPickerViewUsers; @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIBarButtonItem *btnDone; @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIButton *btnChangePin; // added for testing purposes @property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *usernames; - (IBAction)dismissScene:(id)sender; - (IBAction)changePin:(id)sender; @end The implementation file looks like the following, ViewControllerUsers.m #import "ViewControllerUsers.h" @interface ViewControllerUsers () @end @implementation ViewControllerUsers // Core Data @synthesize managedObjectContext = _managedObjectContext; @synthesize uiPickerViewUsers = _uiPickerViewUsers; @synthesize usernames = _usernames; - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { // Custom initialization } return self; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view. // Core Data if (_managedObjectContext == nil) { _managedObjectContext = [(AppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; NSLog(@"After _managedObjectContext: %@", _managedObjectContext); } NSFetchRequest *request = [NSFetchRequest fetchRequestWithEntityName:@"Account"]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Account" inManagedObjectContext:_managedObjectContext]; request.resultType = NSDictionaryResultType; request.propertiesToFetch = [NSArray arrayWithObject:[[entity propertiesByName] objectForKey:@"username"]]; request.returnsDistinctResults = YES; _usernames = [_managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:request error:nil]; NSLog (@"names: %@",_usernames); } -(NSInteger)numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView { //One column return 1; } -(NSInteger)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger)component { //set number of rows return _usernames.count; } -(NSString *)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView titleForRow:(NSInteger)row forComponent:(NSInteger)component { //set item per row return [_usernames objectAtIndex:row]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Dispose of any resources that can be recreated. } - (void)viewDidUnload { [self setBtnDone:nil]; [self setUiPickerViewUsers:nil]; [self setBtnChangePin:nil]; [super viewDidUnload]; } - (IBAction)dismissScene:(id)sender { [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (IBAction)changePin:(id)sender { } @end The current code is causing the app to crash, but the NSLog is show the results of the NSFetchRequest in the NSArray. I currently think that I am not formatting the results of the NSFetchRequest in the NSArray properly if I had to take a guess. • Which folders need to be backedup for migration in Joomla?

    - by Devdatta Tengshe
I have never used Joomla before, so this might be a noobish question. I have tried searching, but haven't found anything relevant. I'm helping someone update & migrate their old website, built on the Joomla framework. Currently it is running on Joomla 1.5.8 which is an ancient version. I've convinced them to upgrade Joomla to atleast 2.5 I have already taken the database backup. Most links I have seen talk of backing up the entire public_html folder (The website runs on a shared host). But in my fresh Joomla installation there are several folders that are in the public_html folder. So which of the folders in the public_html folder are from the content of the website, and which are of the old Joomla framework? I'm afraid that I might overwrite files of the new Joomla framework with the old framework, if copy all the files and folders into the new installation.

  • Help with Perl persistent data storage using Data::Dumper

    - by stephenmm
I have been trying to figure this out for way to long tonight. I have googled it to death and none of the examples or my hacks of the examples are getting it done. It seems like this should be pretty easy but I just cannot get it. Here is the code: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use strict; use Data::Dumper; my $complex_variable = {}; my $MEMORY = "$ENV{HOME}/data/memory-file"; $complex_variable->{ 'key' } = 'value'; $complex_variable->{ 'key1' } = 'value1'; $complex_variable->{ 'key2' } = 'value2'; $complex_variable->{ 'key3' } = 'value3'; print Dumper($complex_variable)."TEST001\n"; open M, ">$MEMORY" or die; print M Data::Dumper->Dump([$complex_variable], ['$complex_variable']); close M; $complex_variable = {}; print Dumper($complex_variable)."TEST002\n"; # Then later to restore the value, it's simply: do $MEMORY; #eval $MEMORY; print Dumper($complex_variable)."TEST003\n"; And here is my output: $VAR1 = { 'key2' => 'value2', 'key1' => 'value1', 'key3' => 'value3', 'key' => 'value' }; TEST001 $VAR1 = {}; TEST002 $VAR1 = {}; TEST003 Everything that I read says that the TEST003 output should look identical to the TEST001 output which is exactly what I am trying to achieve. What am I missing here? Should I be "do"ing differently or should I be "eval"ing instead and if so how? Thanks for any help...

  • Relational database data explorer / visualization?

    - by Ian Boyd
Is there a tool that can let one browse relational data as a graph of connected nodes? For example, i'm faced with trying to cleanse some anomolous data. i can start with two offending rows. In this particular example, the TransactionID should, by business rules, be unique to the table, but i find a transaction that violates that rule: SELECT * FROM LCTTrans WHERE TransactionID = 1075048 LCTID TransactionID ========= ============= 4358 1075048 4359 1075048 2 row(s) affected But really what i want to begin to hunt down all the related data, to try to see which is right. So this hypothetical software would start by showing me these two rows: Next, i want to see that transaction that is linked into this table: Now that transaction points to an MAL, so show me that: Now lets add those two LCTs, that the transaction is "on". A transaction can be on only one LCT, yet this one is pointing to two: Okay computer, both of those LCTs point to an MAL and the transaction that created them, show me those: Those last two transactions, they also point at an MAL, and they themselves point to an LCT, show me those: Okay, now are there any entries in LCTTrans that point to LCTs 4358 or 4359?... And so on, and so on. Now i did all this manually, running single selects, copying and pasting uniqueidentifier keys and converting them into friendly id numbers so i could easily see the relationships. Is there software that can do this?

  • i5 vs. i7 processor dev laptop

    - by vector
Greetings! I need to get a laptop for dev work ( mostly server side Java, NetBeans ) and wonder if anyone had a chance to use either the i5 or i7 based laptop? Is the i7 an overkill? ... or will the i5 handle it just fine? I'm thinking something from the HP line running Ubuntu. Thanks

  • Developer Notebook i5 or i7

    - by Cas Sakal
I could not decide on which configuration below gives better performance for developers on a notebook(running VS.NET, SQL Server, no gaming); (A) i5 540M + SSD (Intel) or (B) i7 720M + 7200 RPM HDD (Western Digital) Since these two configurations(A, B) costs nearly same $ for me, I would like to buy the fastest one for my job environment. Please do not comment just buy this or that, if you can give an inference about your choice I would be appreciated. Thank you, cas

  • Z77 Motherboard with i7-2600K cpu, what will not work?

    - by Mxx
I'm building a new system. So far I think I narrowed it down to Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H (Z77 Ivy Bridge chipset) motherboard. I was planning to get i5-3570K(Ivy Bridge) cpu, but now I can get i7-2600K(Sandy Bridge) cpu for free. It is my understanding that Ivy Bridge platform brings support for PCIe3 and (additional?)USB3 ports. If I were to put SB cpu into IB motherboard, what is going to happen to PCIe3 slot? Will it not work at all or downgrade to PCIe2? Also, what is the situation with USB3 ports?

  • How to migrate KVM based VMs running in LVM setup to Vmdk images

    - by Bond
I am using KVM on Ubuntu Server 10.04. and Virtual Machines are running on it in LVM. I have to migrate some of them to Vmware server. How can I achieve this? I searched and came across some links but they all talked converting vmdk images to qcow or so.In this case I have OS in LVM. I also looked at man page of qemu-img and as I understand it should do what I am asking in this thread. But how exactly should I proceed in this case.Since it is not a file based image (OS running in an LVM which has filesystem in that LVM). So I am not able to understand what should I be doing to achieve the same. Can I achieve the above with snapshots of LVMs rather than shutting down the VM itself.
