  • Accessing controller methods inside a model with Kohana/MVC Framework

    Hi all, I need to able to access controller methods from a model using the Kohana V2.3 framework. At the moment I'm passing the controller object (by ref.) to the model on creation which works perfectly fine but I can't help think there is a more "cleaner" way - does anybody have any suggestions?   • 960 GridSystem, three grid_4 inside one grid_12

    I've created a 16 column layout with 960gs with a div class="grid_12" and after that a grid_4 (12+4...) Inside that grid_12 I wanted a three column style (3 grid_4). But the grid_4 boxes don't fit inside the grid_12, the last box drop into a second row. Shouldn't the 960gs framework be able to do this layout for me, have i missed anything?   • Creating a skin engine in MVC

    Does anyone have any experience creating a skin engine for asp.net MVC? I know the suggested approach is to use flexible markup with CSS, but I would like the ability for a new view to be dropped in, and the application use that one instead of the default one. Basically, I want to know how to tell the framework (at run time) to look into a specific folder for the views/content, and if the item isn't there to check the default locations. I started to look into how the Oxite blog engine does it, but it seems like that might be a bit much for what I need (I am still looking through it, so I could be wrong.) Any help is appreciated.

  • Quick methodology to show client a working demo

    I am not starting an argumentative discussion here and this post is not about career development, but from the commercial point of view: If a company was using ASP.Net MVC as a main methodology to build their web sites and application. However, ASP.Net MVC takes more time to show a functional application than ASP.Net Web Forms, for example, building domain models would take some time which obviously can't be represented on a UI at that current stage. My question is, if a client wants to see a functional demo application (just a proof of concept) so he knows that the company he is dealing with is professional and capable of doing that. Would it be better to do that demo in ASP.Net Web Forms only to show the client, and then work on the real application using ASP.Net MVC? If not, what are the (quick) alternatives?, I mean, if we tell the client to wait till we have a working demo (by ASP.Net MVC) we may lose the client and the whole project opportunity.

  • Which plugin framework to use for native C++/Win32

    Hi everybody. I have an extensible product that allows 3rd party developers to extend it. The aspects that can be extended are documented and interfaces are provided in the SDK. Currently, I'm using COM and I'm getting pretty comfortable with it. I especially like the ability to provide interface versioning in a unified manner. I consider it to be a requirement because you never know what you're gonna need in the future. Just to be precise, here's an example. Let's suppose I have an interface representing a particular feature: class IFeature { public: virtual void DoFeatureTask() = 0; }; Then after the interface is already documented (and someone may have used it in the plugin code) I'm realizing, I need more from this feature. Maybe, there is an option I need to provide. I just define the second version: class IFeature2 { public: virtual void DoFeatureTask(int theOption) = 0; }; I don't mean I intend to have lots of versions. But it just may happen. In COM, because every interface is associated with a GUID, I can query a preferred implementation, determine its presence, and, finally, fall back to a legacy one. But after glancing through C++/COM-related questions, I noticed many recommendations against COM. So maybe it's not the best choice and I'm just too old-school. Can you advise on an alternative?

    I am looking for a wsdl scaffolding framework, or even better if it was a POCO scaffolding framework. I need something like Dynamic Data, but running on wsdl metadata instead of db. I am currently using office infopath which generates decent forms based on wsdl, but I would like to have it in my app, and generated at runtime. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Handling Types Defined in Plug-ins That Are No Longer Available

    I am developing a .NET framework application that allows users to maintain and save "projects". A project can consist of components whose types are defined in the assemblies of the framework itself and/or in third-party assemblies that will be made available to the framework via a yet-to-be-built plug-in architecture. When a project is saved, it is simply binary-serialised to file. Projects are portable, so multiple users can load the same project into their own instances of the framework (just as different users may open the same MSWord document in their own local copies of MSWord). What's more, the plug-ins available to one user's framework might not be available to that of another. I need some way of ensuring that when a user attempts to open (i.e. deserialise) a project that includes a type whose defining assembly cannot be found (either because of a framework version incompatibility or the absence of a plug-in), the project still opens but the offending type is somehow substituted or omitted. Trouble is, the research I've done to date does not even hint at a suitable approach. Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.

  • How to get headers into framework in Xcode?

    I'm trying to build a framework for MacOS in Xcode 3. It looks like it's building everything except the Headers directory according to the layout listed in the Apple documentation. I can't find anything that tells me what settings to use to get the build process to copy the headers into Headers directory in the framework, or alternately where I have to put those files.     Thats basically my code (simplified): class IndexController extends Zend_Controller_Action { public function indexAction(){ $this->view->setBasePath(APPLICATION_PATH . '/views/partner/xyz/'); $this->view->render('node.phtml'); } } Now what I (obvoiusly) want is to use the view script APPLICATION_PATH . '/views/partner/xyz/node.phtml' but ZF always tries to load APPLICATION_PATH . '/views/partner/xyz/scripts/node.phtml' is there any Way around that Behviour?

  • CakePHP adding columns to a table

    I have a Profile model/controller in my cake app as well as an index.ctp view in /views/profiles. Now, when I go to add a column to my table that is already filled with data, and then add the corresponding code to the view to pick up this column's data, it just gives me an empty result. My model: <?php class Profile extends AppModel { var $name = 'Profile'; } ?> My controller: <?php class ProfilesController extends AppController { var $name = 'Profiles'; function index() { $this->set('profiles', $this->Profile->find('all')); } } ?> My views printing (stripped down): <?php foreach ($profiles as $profile): ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['id']; ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['username']; ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['created']; ?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['thumbnail'];?> <?php echo $profile['Profile']['account'];?> <?php endforeach; ?> Basically, the columns id, username, column, thumbnail always have been printing fine, but when I add a column called accountit returns no information (nothing prints, but no errors). Any suggestions?

  • Framework Recommendation request: spring, struts, j2ee?

    The last time I looked at web applications, the consensus seemed to be Struts/J2EE. Now, it looks like Spring MVC/J2EE or Struts/J2EE are both viable solutions. Is this generally correct? Or is Spring MVC now the consensus choice over Struts? We have at least one guy who has worked with Struts before and wants to go with that. I'm more familiar with Struts as well, having reviewed in the past. Also, is J2EE still considered the viable solution for handling remote components? Or are there alternatives?

  • Have you switched from CodeIgniter to Kohana?

    Hi All, I usually just work with straight PHP, but want to try MVC and see if a framework will really speed up development. After much waffling, analysis paralysis, and many dumb SO questions, I thought I had settled on CodeIgniter for my next PHP project. However, I am now seriously considering Kohana. Has anyone made the switch from CI to Kohana? If so, why? What's better about the actual code, libraries, etc? Edit: Hi All, I did end up going with Kohana. It's easy to use, but more importantly, it's easy NOT to use, since there are a lot of things I like to work with native PHP for. It's ridiculously extensible, well coded, and seems like it is beginning to pull out ahead of CI in a few things like putting views in views, passing subview data, etc. I am sure CI will catch up, but Kohana should be 3 steps ahead by then =o)

  • Is there any framework for Windows Forms, DB driven application development/prototyping?

    I'm writing simple database driven application, 80% of functionality is CRUD operations on about 15 tables. Coming from web development background I figured I can cover almost all of these CRUD cases with Rails scaffolding or say Django admins. So I started to look around for Rails/Django-like framework but for Windows Forms applications (ofcourse I understand that "rich client" application development significantly differs from a web development and I'm not expecting anything really similar). I was surprised that except for a variety of ORMs (let's call it Model-layer) it seems like I'm left with little choice when it comes to View-Controller layer. Maybe I'm missing something? PS. I evaluated Visual Studio DataSet Designer, but it seems to work only for the most simple cases, and requires additional code for any slightly nontrivial task.   • Google Chrome Application Mode: Possible to isolate multiple instances?

    I want to run multiple Google Chrome application windows logged into the same web site (Twitter.com, say), each with different credentials. Is this possible? If so, how? My initial testing shows that multiple Chrome app windows are not sufficiently isolated to do this. Logging into the second account logs me into the second account in both windows, suggesting that they are sharing information just as two Chrome tabs might.

  • Is there a way to preserve HTML Formatting in LiveDocX?

    I have a large amount of content stored in a database as XHTML. I need to be able to pull this formatted content into a simple LiveDocX template with the formatting (bold, italic, bulleted lists, etc) preserved. Is this possible? If so, can anybody post a working example or link to an article? If not, are there other applications that I could look into? The client needs to be able to export content in the .doc/.docx file format. Thanks, Peter
