• Why can't WARs share session info?

  I have seen several developers looking for a solution for this problem: accessing session information from a different WAR (even when inside the same EAR) - here are some samples: Any way to share session state between different applications in tomcat?, Access session of another web application, different WAR files, shared resources, Tomcat: How to share data between two applications?, What does the crossContext attribute do in Tomcat? Does it enable session sharing? and so on... From all I have searched, there are some specific solutions depending on the container, but it is somehow 'contrary to the specification'. I have also looked through Java EE specification without any luck on finding an answer. Some developers talk about coupling between web applications, but I tend to disagree. What is the reason one would keep WARs inside the same EAR if not coupling? EJBs, for instance, can be accessed locally (even if inside another EJB JAR within the same EAR). More specifically, one of my WARs handles authentication and authorization, and I would like to share this information with other WARs (in the same EAR). I have managed to work around similar problems before by packaging WARs as JARs and putting them into a singular WAR project (WEB-INF/lib). Yet I do not like this solution (it requires a huge effort on servlet naming and so on). And no solution has answered the first (and most important) question: Why can't WARs share session information?

Get Hands-On Experience With a an Easy to Install Demo Image Once you have identified the features you believe can add value (see part 1 of this series here), we recommend that you use our Demo Images to quickly create a PeopleSoft environment where you can try out the new features. The Demo Images are virtual machines that run in VirtualBox.   They contain a fully functioning PeopleSoft environment, including the database, PeopleTools, and the application.  These images can be loaded onto nearly any sized machine that meets the specs outlined in the documentation, including a powerful desktop machine.     The image allows you to very quickly deploy a fully functioning PeopleSoft instance that you can use to explore new features and functions or run a conference room pilot. Use the " Demo Image Quick Start Guide" and additional documentation links on that page to download and install your desired Demo Image. The VFOs are brief recordings that summarize some of our most popular capabilities. These recordings are great tools for learning about new features, or helping others to visualize the value they can bring to your organization.   Batch-program launchs with 1 parameter (full path to file) program.cmd "C:\Path\To\File\Filename.txt" Now, this program consists of 1 command: echo %1 And it just prints an argument: C:\Path\To\File\Filename.txt for the upper example. But I want it to print an argument (full path) with another extension, e.g. .exe. For the upper example, I want it to print C:\Path\To\File\Filename.exe. How to make it do that?

• Pathfinding for fleeing

  As you know there are plenty of solutions when you wand to find the best path in a 2-dimensional environment which leads from point A to point B. But how do I calculate a path when an object is at point A, and wants to get away from point B, as fast and far as possible? A bit of background information: My game uses a 2d environment which isn't tile-based but has floating point accuracy. The movement is vector-based. The pathfinding is done by partitioning the game world into rectangles which are walkable or non-walkable and building a graph out of their corners. I already have pathfinding between points working by using Dijkstras algorithm. The use-case for the fleeing algorithm is that in certain situations, actors in my game should perceive another actor as a danger and flee from it. The trivial solution would be to just move the actor in a vector in the direction which is opposite from the threat until a "safe" distance was reached or the actor reaches a wall where it then covers in fear. The problem with this approach is that actors will be blocked by small obstacles they could easily get around. As long as moving along the wall wouldn't bring them closer to the threat they could do that, but it would look smarter when they would avoid obstacles in the first place: Another problem I see is with dead ends in the map geometry. In some situations a being must choose between a path which gets it faster away now but ends in a dead end where it would be trapped, or another path which would mean that it wouldn't get that far away from the danger at first (or even a bit closer) but on the other hand would have a much greater long-term reward in that it would eventually get them much further away. So the short-term reward of getting away fast must be somehow valued against the long-term reward of getting away far. There is also another rating problem for situations where an actor should accept to move closer to a minor threat to get away from a much larger threat. But completely ignoring all minor threats would be foolish, too (that's why the actor in this graphic goes out of its way to avoid the minor threat in the upper right area): Are there any standard solutions for this problem?

• Unit turning in navmesh-based pathfinding

  I'm working on an RTS game, and I'm using navmeshes for unit pathfinding. I do know how to find a general path within a navmesh, but how do you determine if the unit have enough space to turn? I have units of different shapes (mostly rectangles with different dimensions), and with different turn radii. Additionally some of units can turn in place, and some can move in reverse. So, how to find a path which unit can follow, considering that it can not rotate easily?

• I have a very long and repetitive python path, where do I look to correct this?

  I know it is probably not necessary to paste the whole path, but just for the record I have done so below. Whenever I run a python command, it takes a long time to load this path I suppose.   I use Ubuntu 12.10 and I tried to follow this guide Install android sdk and eclipse in Ubuntu 12.04 but I keep getting this error: Error: The AVD manager normally uses the user's profile directory to store AVD files. However it failed to find the default profile directory. To fix this, please set the environment variable ANDROID_SDK_HOME to a valid path such as ¨~¨. Any ideas how can I fix this?

The allocated partition to Ubuntu that I am making use of has almost exhausted. Generally softwares are installed via the terminal and by default a fixed path is used to where the post installation set up files can be found (I am talking in context of the drive). This is like the typical case of Windows, where softwares by default are installed in the C: drive. These days people customize their installations to a drive which they find apt to serve their purpose (generally based on availability of hard disk space). I am trying to figure out how to customize the same for Ubuntu. As we all know the most softwares are installed via commands given from the Terminal. My road block is how do I redirect the default path set on the terminal where files get installed to this new hard disk. This if done will help me overcome space constraints I am currently facing wrt the partition on which my Ubuntu is initially installed. I would also by this, save time on not formatting my system and reinstalling Ubuntu and other softwares all over again. Please help me with this, your suggestions are much appreciated.

My question : I want to be a researcher in "computer science" down the line 6 - 7 yrs, what do you folks suggest should be my path to reach it ? Constraints : I cannot cannot do formal MS or PHD , I simply cant afford it. I can dedicate certain amount of time per day to study and research.
