  • graphs and charts on the iPhone

    - by Jon
My client has requested data to be presented in a graphical format on the iPhone (a pie chart or something similar). I am wondering how others have handled this - A.) deliver the raw data to the phone and somehow build the chart on the phone, or B.) have the back-end services build the chart and deliver it (png format) to the phone? Thanks for any advice.

  • Setting up Mercurial/TortoiseHg to work with UltraCompare

    - by Tim Pietzcker
Hi, I'm trying to get my favorite Windows diff/merge tool, UltraCompare (V7.00) to work with Mercurial/TortoiseHg. I have set up UltraCompare in my Mercurial.ini like this (only relevant bits shown): [merge-tools] UltraCompare.executable = C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.com UltraCompare.args = $base $local $other UltraCompare.priority = 1 UltraCompare.gui = True UltraCompare.binary = True UltraCompare.checkconflicts = True UltraCompare.checkchanged = True However, the three-way-merge fails. The path names get messed up if the path to the repository that is being merged to contains a space. I have done some more testing, and I've found out (using Process Explorer) that uc.com is called with a broken command line if there is a space in the repository's path: Compare "C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.exe" " "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~base.akr6au" "E:\Eigene Dateien\test\test-merge\test.txt" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~other.b92442" and "C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.com" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~base.e7vryp" "E:\test\test-merge\test.txt" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~other.u_qxme" There is an extraneous " after the path of the executable in the first example - not in the second (which works fine). To me, it seems as if UltraCompare is doing everything right, and that Mercurial/TortoiseHg are passing a defective command line to it. Would you say so, too? Is there a workaround? I've just updated to Mercurial 1.5/TortoiseHg 1.0, and the problem persists. Support for other merge tools (Beyond Compare and others) has been added, sadly not UltraCompare...

  • My IF statement is changing variables in PHP

    - by user1902509
I am fairly new to the whole programming thing, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. It seems odd that I haven't run into it before. I am trying to make an order form for a cake. You fill out the form, submit it, and it will then display the order in a new window, where you then hit "submit," and upload it to the Database. I have a series of If Statements to check for errors in the form before submitting it. Here is a simplified version of the code. Writing means any writing you want on the cake, Name is your name, and cake is what type of cake you want (the default is "None"). try { $name = trim($params->name); $cake = trim($params->cake); $writing = trim($params->writing); if (strlen($name) < 3){ throw new Exception("Please enter Your name."); } if ($cake = "None") { throw new Exception("Please select a Cake" } if ($cake = "Caramel Apple Pie" or $cake = "Pumpkin Pie" or $cake = "Eggnog Pie" and strlen($writing) > 1) { throw new Exception("We are sorry, but you can't write on any of our specialty pies."); } } catch(Exception $x) { $error = $x->getmessage(); } So what is happening is that when I go and hit submit the first time, the correct cake type comes up, but when you submit it the second time, the error comes up saying that I have "None" selected. All the other values are there and remain the same. I think the problem is that the first "IF" statement (Where it says "If($cake = "None")) is automatically changing $cake to "None" because I have tried commenting just that statement out, and it will then change the cake to be "Caramel Apple Pie," which is in the top of the next IF statement. Anyone know why it is doing this? And how to fix it?

  • How you can extend Tasklists in Fusion Applications

    - by Elie Wazen
In this post we describe the process of modifying and extending a Tasklist available in the Regional Area of a Fusion Applications UI Shell. This is particularly useful to Customers who would like to expose Setup Tasks (generally available in the Fusion Setup Manager application) in the various functional pillars workareas. Oracle Composer, the tool used to implement such extensions allows changes to be made at runtime. The example provided in this document is for an Oracle Fusion Financials page. Let us examine the case of a customer role who requires access to both, a workarea and its associated functional tasks, and to an FSM (setup) task.  Both of these tasks represent ADF Taskflows but each is accessible from a different page.  We will show how an FSM task is added to a Functional tasklist and made accessible to a user from within a single workarea, eliminating the need to navigate between the FSM application and the Functional workarea where transactions are conducted. In general, tasks in Fusion Applications are grouped in two ways: Setup tasks are grouped in tasklists available to implementers in the Functional Setup Manager (FSM). These Tasks are accessed by implementation users and in general do not represent daily operational tasks that fit into a functional business process and were consequently included in the FSM application. For these tasks, the primary organizing principle is precedence between tasks. If task "Manage Suppliers" has prerequisites, those tasks must precede it in a tasklist. Task Lists are organized to efficiently implement an offering. Tasks frequently performed as part of business process flows are made available as links in the tasklist of their corresponding menu workarea. The primary organizing principle in the menu and task pane entries is to group tasks that are generally accessed together. Customizing a tasklist thus becomes required for business scenarios where a task packaged under FSM as a setup task, is for a particular customer a regular maintenance task that is accessed for record updates or creation as part of normal operational activities and where the frequency of this access merits the inclusion of that task in the related operational tasklist A user with the role of maintaining Journals in General Ledger is also responsible for maintaining Chart of Accounts Mappings.  In the Fusion Financials Product Family, Manage Journals is a task available from within the Journals Menu whereas Chart of Accounts Mapping is available via FSM under the Define Chart of Accounts tasklist Figure 1. The Manage Chart of Accounts Mapping Task in FSM Figure 2. The Manage Journals Task in the Task Pane of the Journals Workarea Our goal is to simplify cross task navigation and allow the user to access both tasks from a single tasklist on a single page without having to navigate to FSM for the Mapping task and to the Journals workarea for the Manage task. To accomplish that, we use Oracle Composer to customize  the Journals tasklist by adding to it the Mapping task. Identify the Taskflow name and path of the FSM Task The first step in our process is to identify the underlying taskflow for the Manage Chart of Accounts Mappings task. We select to Setup and Maintenance from the Navigator to launch the FSM Application, and we query the task from Manage Tasklists and Tasks Figure 3. Task Details including Taskflow path The Manage Chart of Accounts Mapping Task Taskflow is: /WEB-INF/oracle/apps/financials/generalLedger/sharedSetup/coaMappings/ui/flow /CoaMappingsMainAreaFlow.xml#CoaMappingsMainAreaFlow We copy that value and use it later as a parameter to our new task in the customized Journals Tasklist. Customize the Journals Page A user with Administration privileges can start the run time customization directly from the Administration Menu of the Global Area.  This customization is done at the Site level and once implemented becomes available to all users with access to the Journals Workarea. Figure 4.  Customization Menu The Oracle Composer Window is displayed in the same browser and the Hierarchy of the page component is displayed and available for modification. Figure 5.  Oracle Composer In the composer Window select the PanelFormLayout node and click on the Edit Button.  Note that the selected component is simultaneously highlighted in the lower pane in the browser. In the Properties popup window, select the Tasks List and Task Properties Tab, where the user finds the hierarchy of the Tasklist and is able to Edit nodes or create new ones. src="https://blogs.oracle.com/FunctionalArchitecture/resource/TL5.jpg" Figure 6.  The Tasklist in edit mode Add a Child Task to the Tasklist In the Edit Window the user will now create a child node at the desired level in the hierarchy by selecting the immediate parent node and clicking on the insert node button.  This process requires four values to be set as described in Table 1 below. Parameter Value How to Determine the Value Focus View Id /JournalEntryPage This is the Focus View ID of the UI Shell where the Tasklist we want to customize is.  A simple way to determine this value is to copy it from any of the Standard tasks on the Tasklist Label COA Mapping This is the Display name of the Task as it will appear in the Tasklist Task Type dynamicMain If the value is dynamicMain, the page contains a new link in the Regional Area. When you click the link, a new tab with the loaded task opens Taskflowid /WEB-INF/oracle/apps/financials/generalLedger/sharedSetup/ coaMappings/ui/flow/ CoaMappingsMainAreaFlow.xml#CoaMappingsMainAreaFlow This is the Taskflow path we retrieved from the Task Definition in FSM earlier in the process Table 1.  Parameters and Values for the Task to be added to the customized Tasklist Figure 7.   The parameters window of the newly added Task   Access the FSM Task from the Journals Workarea Once the FSM task is added and its parameters defined, the user saves the record, closes the Composer making the new task immediately available to users with access to the Journals workarea (Refer to Figure 8 below). Figure 8.   The COA Mapping Task is now visible and can be invoked from the Journals Workarea   Additional Considerations If a Task Flow is part of a product that is deployed on the same app server as the Tasklist workarea then that task flow can be added to a customized tasklist in that workarea. Otherwise that task flow can be invoked from its parent product’s workarea tasklist by selecting that workarea from the Navigator menu. For Example The following Taskflows  belong respectively to the Subledger Accounting, and to the General Ledger Products.  /WEB-INF/oracle/apps/financials/subledgerAccounting/accountingMethodSetup/mappingSets/ui/flow/MappingSetFlow.xml#MappingSetFlow /WEB-INF/oracle/apps/financials/generalLedger/sharedSetup/coaMappings/ui/flow/CoaMappingsMainAreaFlow.xml#CoaMappingsMainAreaFlow Since both the Subledger Accounting and General Ledger products are part of the LedgerApp J2EE Applicaton and are both deployed on the General Ledger Cluster Server (Figure 8 below), the user can add both of the above taskflows to the  tasklist in the  /JournalEntryPage FocusVIewID Workarea. Note:  both FSM Taskflows and Functional Taskflows can be added to the Tasklists as described in this document Figure 8.   The Topology of the Fusion Financials Product Family. Note that SubLedger Accounting and General Ledger are both deployed on the Ledger App Conclusion In this document we have shown how an administrative user can edit the Tasklist in the Regional Area of a Fusion Apps page using Oracle Composer. This is useful for cases where tasks packaged in different workareas are frequently accessed by the same user. By making these tasks available from the same page, we minimize the number of steps in the navigation the user has to do to perform their transactions and queries in Fusion Apps.  The example explained above showed that tasks classified as Setup tasks, meaning made accessible to implementation users from the FSM module can be added to the workarea of their respective Fusion application. This eliminates the need to navigate to FSM to access tasks that are both setup and regular maintenance tasks. • How do I publicize a cool bookmarklet?

    - by Malvolio
I wrote a really cool bookmarklet and now I want to tell everyone. I have absolutely no idea where to go, is there some sort of exchange for these things? In case anyone is curious: I was tired of having to retype URLs from my desktop browser on to my phone browser, with its itsy-bitsy keyboard, so I wrote a bookmarklet that converts the current URL to a QR code, which I can scan in a few seconds. javascript:window.location="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?chs=250x250&cht=qr&chl="+escape(window.location)

  • Parameterize Charts using Excel Slicers in PowerPivot

    - by Marco Russo (SQLBI)
One new nice feature of Excel 2010 is the Slicer. Usually, slicers are used to filter data in a PivotTable. But they might be also useful to parameterize an algorithm or a chart! We discussed this technique in our book , but Alberto Ferrari wrote a post that shows how to use this technique to allow the user to select two stocks that should be compared in an Excel Chart – as you might imagine, this will work also when you will publish the workbook on SharePoint! This is the result: Nice to see that...(read more)

  • ASP.NET AJAX MultiHandleSliderExtender - Slide by Year and Month

In this tutorial, I will demonstrate how to use the MultiHandleSlider extender to select and display both the year and the month in a range. This control eliminates the need to use four DropDownlist controls to hold the range values and the need for a validation control. Then we will use the Column Chart to display number of cars on Sesame Street based on the selected range values. This chart allows the user to drill down into the details for the selected car brands.

  • Stats on programming languages usage

    - by sameold
I'm doing some research for a project and I'm trying to find out what are the 5 most-used server-side languages. I found this chart (http://i.stack.imgur.com/vPXgR.jpg) on css-tricks.com (produced from a poll the site owner ran), but in the comments, some suggested that the poll may be skewed in favor of php because most of the site visitors are designers. I'm not sure if this chart looks realistic. Does anyone know of similar stats?

  • Most efficent way to create all possible combinations of four lists in Python?

    - by Baresi
I have four different lists. headers, descriptions, short_descriptions and misc. I want to combine these into all the possible ways to print out: header\n description\n short_description\n misc like if i had (i'm skipping short_description and misc in this example for obvious reasons) headers = ['Hello there', 'Hi there!'] description = ['I like pie', 'Ho ho ho'] ... I want it to print out like: Hello there I like pie ... Hello there Ho ho ho ... Hi there! I like pie ... Hi there! Ho ho ho ... What would you say is the best/cleanest/most efficent way to do this? Is for-nesting the only way to go?

  • TemplateBinding and additional string in Silverlight

    - by aaginor
Hi folks, In my Silverlight 3 application, I created a custom Tooltip, that is shown when the mouse is over a part of a Pie-Chart. The displayed values are set via TemplateBinding: <ToolTipService.ToolTip> <StackPanel> <ContentControl Content="{TemplateBinding IndependentValue}" FontWeight="Bold" /> <ContentControl Content="{TemplateBinding FormattedDependentValue}"/> <ContentControl Content="{TemplateBinding FormattedRatio}"/> </StackPanel> </ToolTipService.ToolTip> The tooltip shows the title of the pie-slice, the value that the size of the slice is based on and the percentage regarding the whole pie: MyTitel 9 12% Now, I want to add a constant string to the value, to show the following: MyTitel 9 items 12% the string 'items' shall be added to the displayed number. Is there a way to add the constant string to the Content-Property of the ContentControl? (I have no influence on the binded value FormattedDependentValue) Thanks in advance, Frank

  • TFS API Change WorkItem CreatedDate And ChangedDate To Historic Dates

    - by Tarun Arora
There may be times when you need to modify the value of the fields “System.CreatedDate” and “System.ChangedDate” on a work item. Richard Hundhausen has a great blog with ample of reason why or why not you should need to set the values of these fields to historic dates. In this blog post I’ll show you, Create a PBI WorkItem linked to a Task work item by pre-setting the value of the field ‘System.ChangedDate’ to a historic date Change the value of the field ‘System.Created’ to a historic date Simulate the historic burn down of a task type work item in a sprint Explain the impact of updating values of the fields CreatedDate and ChangedDate on the Sprint burn down chart Rules of Play      1. You need to be a member of the Project Collection Service Accounts              2. You need to use ‘WorkItemStoreFlags.BypassRules’ when you instantiate the WorkItemStore service // Instanciate Work Item Store with the ByPassRules flag _wis = new WorkItemStore(_tfs, WorkItemStoreFlags.BypassRules);      3. You cannot set the ChangedDate         - Less than the changed date of previous revision         - Greater than current date Walkthrough The walkthrough contains 5 parts 00 – Required References 01 – Connect to TFS Programmatically 02 – Create a Work Item Programmatically 03 – Set the values of fields ‘System.ChangedDate’ and ‘System.CreatedDate’ to historic dates 04 – Results of our experiment Lets get started………………………………………………… 00 – Required References Microsoft.TeamFoundation.dll Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client.dll Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common.dll Microsoft.TeamFoundation.WorkItemTracking.Client.dll 01 – Connect to TFS Programmatically I have a in depth blog post on how to connect to TFS programmatically in case you are interested. However, the code snippet below will enable you to connect to TFS using the Team Project Picker. // Services I need access to globally private static TfsTeamProjectCollection _tfs; private static ProjectInfo _selectedTeamProject; private static WorkItemStore _wis; // Connect to TFS Using Team Project Picker public static bool ConnectToTfs() { var isSelected = false; // The user is allowed to select only one project var tfsPp = new TeamProjectPicker(TeamProjectPickerMode.SingleProject, false); tfsPp.ShowDialog(); // The TFS project collection _tfs = tfsPp.SelectedTeamProjectCollection; if (tfsPp.SelectedProjects.Any()) { // The selected Team Project _selectedTeamProject = tfsPp.SelectedProjects[0]; isSelected = true; } return isSelected; } 02 – Create a Work Item Programmatically In the below code snippet I have create a Product Backlog Item and a Task type work item and then link them together as parent and child. Note – You will have to set the ChangedDate to a historic date when you created the work item. Remember, If you try and set the ChangedDate to a value earlier than last assigned you will receive the following exception… TF26212: Team Foundation Server could not save your changes. Image 1 – Create work item with Changed Date pre-set to historic date Image 2 – Set the CreatedDate to historic date (Same as the ChangedDate) Image 3 – Simulate of effort burn down on a task via the TFS API   Image 4 – The history of changes on the Task. So, essentially this task has burned 1 hour per day Sprint Burn Down Chart – What’s not possible? The Sprint burn down chart is calculated from the System.AuthorizedDate and not the System.ChangedDate/System.CreatedDate. So, though you can change the System.ChangedDate and System.CreatedDate to historic dates you will not be able to synthesize the sprint burn down chart. Image 1 – By changing the Created Date and Changed Date to ‘18/Oct/2012’ you would have expected the burn down to have been impacted, but it won’t be, because the sprint burn down chart uses the value of field ‘System.AuthorizedDate’ to calculate the unfinished work points. The AsOf queries that are used to calculate the unfinished work points use the value of the field ‘System.AuthorizedDate’. Image 2 – Using the above code I burned down 1 hour effort per day over 5 days from the task work item, I would have expected the sprint burn down to show a constant burn down, instead the burn down shows the effort exhausted on the 24th itself. Simply because the burn down is calculated using the ‘System.AuthorizedDate’. Now you would ask… “Can I change the value of the field System.AuthorizedDate to a historic date” Unfortunately that’s not possible! You will run into the exception ValidationException –  “TF26194: The value for field ‘Authorized Date’ cannot be changed.” Conclusion - You need to be a member of the Project Collection Service account group in order to set the fields ‘System.ChangedDate’ and ‘System.CreatedDate’ to historic dates - You need to instantiate the WorkItemStore using the flag ByPassValidation - The System.ChangedDate needs to be set to a historic date at the time of work item creation. You cannot reset the ChangedDate to a date earlier than the existing ChangedDate and you cannot reset the ChangedDate to a date greater than the current date time. - The System.CreatedDate can only be reset after a work item has been created. You cannot set the CreatedDate at the time of work item creation. The CreatedDate cannot be greater than the current date. You can however reset the CreatedDate to a date earlier than the existing value. - You will not be able to synthesize the Sprint burn down chart by changing the value of System.ChangedDate and System.CreatedDate to historic dates, since the burn down chart uses AsOf queries to calculate the unfinished work points which internally uses the System.AuthorizedDate and NOT the System.ChangedDate & System.CreatedDate - System.AuthorizedDate cannot be set to a historic date using the TFS API Read other posts on using the TFS API here… Enjoy!

  • BAM Data Control in multiple ADF Faces Components

    - by [email protected]
As we know Oracle BAM data control instance sharing is not supported. When two or more ADF Faces components must display the same data, and are bound to the same Oracle BAM data control definition, we have to make sure that we wrap each ADF Faces component in an ADF task flow, and set the Data Control Scope to isolated. This blog will show a small sample to demonstrate this. In this sample we will create a Pie and Bar using same BAM DC, such that both components use same Data control but have isolated scope. This sample can be downloaded  fromSample1.zip Set-up: Create a BAM data control using employees DO (sample) Steps: Right click on View Controller project and select "New->ADF Task Flow" Check "Create Bounded Task Flow" and give some meaningful name (ex:EmpPieTF.xml ) to the TaskFlow(TF) and click on "OK"CreateTF.bmpFrom the "Components Palette", drag and drop "View" into the task flow diagram. Give a meaningful name to the view. Double Click and Click "Ok" for  "Create New JSF Page Fragment" From "Data Controls" drag and drop "Employees->Query"  into this jsff page as "Graph->Pie" (Pie: Sales_Number and Slices: Salesperson) Repeat step 1 through 4 for another Task Flow (ex: EmpBarTF). From "Data Controls" drag and drop "Employees->Query"  into this jsff page as "Graph->Bar" (Bars :Sales_Number and X-axis : Salesperson). Open the Taskflow created in step 2. In the Structure Pane, right click on "Task Flow Definition -EmpPieTF" Click "Insert inside Task Flow Definition - EmpPieTF -> ADF Task Flow -> Data Control Scope". Click "OK"TFDCScope.bmpFor the "Data Control Scope", In the Property Inspector ->General section, change data control scope from Shared to Isolated. Repeat step 8 through 11 for the 2nd Task flow created. Now create a new jspx page example: Main.jspxDrag and drop both the Task flows (ex: "EmpPieTF" and "EmpBarTF") as regions. Surround with panel components as needed.Run the page Main.jspxMainPage.bmpNow when the page runs although both components are created using same Data control the bindings are not shared and each component will have a separate instance of the data control.

  • How to add a 'second elbow' to an 'elbow arrow connector' in Powerpoint 2007?

    - by ricebowl
I'm trying to put together a relatively complex flow-chart thing -as part of a University assignment (health-related, and gosh, does my university love all things Microsoft Office...). Because of the way the chart progresses I have to connect two objects with a 'double elbow' version of the 'elbow arrow connector.' I accept that perhaps this complexity means I should redesign the chart, but I've tried and failed to simplify things already. If you'll pardon my ASCII art, this is what I have: +----------------+ | 1 | | | +-------+--------+ | | +-------+--------+ /\ |2 +--------|-----/ 3\ +----------------+ \ / \/ Shape 1 should connect to shape 3, currently the line doing so passes behind shape 2. The diagram below shows what I'd prefer, and, frankly, what I need to happen. +----------------+ | 1 | | | +-------+--------+ | +-----------+ +----------------+ | /\ |2 | +--/ 3\ +----------------+ \ / \/ Having explored the various right-click options I'm either being blind and not seeing it, or...well, I'm hoping it's just me being blind and/or stupid, frankly. If anyone has any suggestions they'd be gratefully received. I'm working with WinXP and Office 2007 (at the university, I run on Ubuntu at home, which possibly explains why I'm missing something potentially simple)...

  • Rails HABTM accepts_nested_attributes_for mapping table

    - by Rabbott
Currently I have a habtm relationship between a datastream (stream), and a chart. I want to be able to use the 'typical' jquery "add new stream" method to add a new entry into a mapping table that holds the chart_id, and stream_id.. But I think that most examples out there are made to handle a one to many relationship.. The functionality provided here by Ryan Bates is what I'm looking for, But I dont want to use checkboxes, I want to use a select (drop down) to add new items to the mapping table. I need THIS and THIS combined chart.rb class Chart < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :streams, :readonly => false, :join_table => 'charts_streams' accepts_nested_attributes_for :streams, :reject_if => lambda { |a| a.values.all?(&:blank?) }, :allow_destroy => true stream.rb class Stream < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :charts, :readonly => false, :join_table => 'charts_streams' application.js /* * Method used to add new child form partials */ $('form a.add_child').click(function() { var assoc = $(this).attr('data-association'); var content = $('#' + assoc + '_fields_template').html(); var regexp = new RegExp('new_' + assoc, 'g'); var new_id = new Date().getTime(); var newElements = jQuery(content.replace(regexp, new_id)).hide(); $(this).parent().before(newElements).prev().slideFadeToggle(); return false; }); /* * Method used to remove child form partials */ $('form a.remove_child').live('click', function() { if(confirm('Are you sure?')) { var hidden_field = $(this).prev('input[type=hidden]')[0]; if(hidden_field) { hidden_field.value = '1'; } $(this).parents('.fields').slideFadeToggle(); } return false; }); _form.html.erb <div id="streams"> <h4>Streams</h4> <% form.fields_for :streams do |stream_form| %> <%= render :partial => "stream", :locals => {:f => stream_form} %> <% end %> </div> <p><%= add_child_link 'Add a stream', :streams %></p> <%= new_child_fields_template(form, :streams) %> _stream.html.erb <div class="fields"> <p> <%= f.label :stream_id %><br /> <%= select_tag "chart[stream_ids][]", options_for_select(@streams.map {|s| [s.label, s.id]}, f.object.id) %> </p> <p><%= remove_child_link 'Remove stream', f %></p> </div> This may be overkill and what I am looking to do could be much easier.. Basically when I create a chart I want to be able to add as many streams to it as I want, using the javascript for adding a new entry, and removing an old one... Thanks for the help! This is 'working' but gives me a ActiveRecord::ReadOnlyRecord error when it hits the chart.update_attributes method.. am I adding the the :readonly = false in the wrong spot? Or am I just doing it completely wrong?

  • MVC: How to Implement Linked Views?

    - by cw'
I'm developing a java application to visualize time series. I need (at least) three linked views, meaning that interaction with one of them updates the others. The views are: A list represents the available and currently selected time series. The selected time series are used as input for subsequent computations. Changing the selection should update the other views. A line chart displays the available and selected time series. Time series should be selectable from here by clicking on them. A bar chart shows aggregated data on time series. When zooming in to a period of time, the line chart should zoom in to the same period (and vice versa). How to implement this nicely, from a software engineering point of view? I.e. I'd like to write reusable and clear, maintainable code. So I thought of the MVC pattern. At first I liked the idea of having the three view components observing my model class and to refresh views upon being notified. But then, it didn't feel right to store view related data in the model. Storing e.g. the time series selection or plot zoom level in the model makes implications about the view which I wouldn't want in a reusable model. On the other hand, having the controllers observe each other results in a lot of dependencies. When adding another view, I'd have to register all other views as observer of the new view and vice versa, passing around many references and introducing dependencies. Maybe another "model" storing only view-related data would be the solution?

  • BounceEase and silverlight 4 BarSeries

    - by Pharabus
    Hi, I am trying to get a bar series to "bounce" when drawing, I assumed the BounceEase TransitionEasingFunction would do this but the lines just fade in, I have posted the xaml and code behind below, does anyone know where I have gone wrong or is it more complex than I though, I am fairly new to silverlight XAML <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <chartingToolkit:Chart x:Name="MyChart"> <chartingToolkit:BarSeries Title="Sales" ItemsSource="{Binding}" IndependentValuePath="Name" DependentValuePath="Value" AnimationSequence="FirstToLast" TransitionDuration="00:00:3"> <chartingToolkit:BarSeries.TransitionEasingFunction> <BounceEase EasingMode="EaseInOut" Bounciness="5" /> </chartingToolkit:BarSeries.TransitionEasingFunction> <chartingToolkit:BarSeries.DataPointStyle> <Style TargetType="Control"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Red"/> </Style> </chartingToolkit:BarSeries.DataPointStyle> </chartingToolkit:BarSeries> <chartingToolkit:Chart.Axes> <chartingToolkit:LinearAxis Title="Types owned" Orientation="X" Minimum="0" Maximum="300" Interval="10" ShowGridLines="True" FontStyle='Italic'/> </chartingToolkit:Chart.Axes> </chartingToolkit:Chart> </Grid> code behind public class MyClass : DependencyObject { public string Name { get; set; } public Double Value { get { return (Double)GetValue(myValueProperty); } set{SetValue(myValueProperty,value);} } public static readonly DependencyProperty myValueProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("Value", typeof(Double), typeof(MyClass), null); } public MainPage() { InitializeComponent(); //Get the data IList<MyClass> l = this.GetData(); //Get a reference to the SL Chart MyChart.DataContext = l.OrderBy(e => e.Value); //Find the highest number and round it up to the next digit DispatcherTimer myDispatcherTimer = new DispatcherTimer(); myDispatcherTimer.Interval = new TimeSpan(0, 0, 0, 5, 0); // 100 Milliseconds myDispatcherTimer.Tick += new EventHandler(Each_Tick); myDispatcherTimer.Start(); } public void Each_Tick(object o, EventArgs sender) { ((BarSeries)MyChart.Series[0]).DataContext = GetData(); } private IList<MyClass> GetData() { Random random = new Random(); return new List<MyClass>() { new MyClass() {Name="Bob Zero",Value=(random.NextDouble() * 100.0)}, new MyClass() {Name="Bob One",Value=(random.NextDouble() * 100.0)}, new MyClass() {Name="Bob Two",Value=(random.NextDouble() * 100.0)}, new MyClass() {Name="Bob Three",Value=(random.NextDouble() * 100.0)} }; }

I want when I move the slider to move a dot on the chart accordingly with the slider position. See attached screenshot: As you can see it seems to work fine. I've implemented this behaviour using the pathIntersection() method. On the slide event at each ui.value (x coordinate) I intersect my chartPath (the one from above) with a vertical straight line at the x coordinate. But still there are some problems. One of them is that it runs very hard, and it kinda freezes sometimes.. and very weird sometimes it doesn't seem to intersect at all even it should.. I'll example below 2 cases I identified: M 499.8461538461538 0 L 499.8461538461538 140 M 910 0 L 910 140 Could you please explain why this intersect behaviour happens (it should return a dot).. and the worst part it seems like it happens randomly.. if I use another chartdata. Also if you can identify another (better) solution to syncronise the slider position with the dot on the chart.. would be perfect. I thought about using Element.getPointAtLength(length), but I don't know how. I think I should save the pathSegments and for each to compute the start Length and the finish Length.
