• LazyList<T> vs System.Lazy<List<T>> in ASP.NET MVC 2?

  In Rob Conery's Storefront series, Rob makes extensive use of the LazyList<..> construct to pull data from IQueryables. How does this differ from the System.Lazy<...> construct now available in .NET 4.0 (and perhaps earlier)? More depth based on DoctaJones' great answer: Would you recommend one over the other if I wanted to operate on IQueryable as a List<T>? I'm assuming that since Lazy<T> is in the framework now, it is a safer bet for future support and maintainability? If I want to use a strong type instead of an anonymous (var) type would the following statements be functionally equivalent? Lazy<List<Products>> Products = new Lazy<List<Product>>(); LazyList<Product> = new LazyList<Product>();

• PHP Tag Cloud System

  Hi, I am implementing a tag cloud system based on this recommendation. (However, I am not using foreign keys) I am allowing up to 25 tags. My question is, how can I handle editing on the items? I have this item adding/editing page: Title: Description: Tags: (example data) computer, book, web, design If someone edits an item details, do I need to delete all the tags from Item2Tag table first, then add the new elements? For instance, someone changed the data to this: Tags: (example data) computer, book, web, newspaper Do I need to delete all the tags from Item2Tag table, and then add these elements? It seems inefficient, but I could find a more efficient way. The other problem is with this way is, if someone edits description but does not change the tags box, I still need to delete all the elements from Item2Tag table and add the same element. I am not an experienced PHP coder, so could you suggest a better way to handle this? (pure PHP/MySQL solution is preferable) Thanks in advance,

• How to edit localized forms all at one time in Visual Studio

  Hello, I have several forms that are localized to multiple languages. If I do a change on one form (for example, changing the size of a textbox) the change is done only on the localized version of the Form that I have currently selected. Is there a way of extending the change I've done the different localized versions of the same Form to avoid having to go one by one doing the same change by hand? Thanks in advance for your help. EDIT: I'm talking about different forms when the real thign is that you have one form and several resources. The point is that at the end is just like if you have different forms for each locale because the form is built with the data from the resource. The problem is still the same because the edits done on the form are stored at one resource file and I have to put by hand those edits in all the resources.

  I'd like to create a procmail recipe or Perl or shell script that will send an auto response to the original sender as well as anybody that was copied (either To: or cc:) on the original email. Example: [email protected] writes an email to [email protected] and [email protected] (in the To: field). Copies are sent via cc: to [email protected] and [email protected]. I'd like the script to send an auto response to the original sender ([email protected]) and everybody else that was sent a copy of the email ([email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]).   This is a bit of a strange one but I've just seen something on twitter which kind of baffled me and I'm interested to know more. Rob Conery tweeted the following a couple of hours ago: Class name of the day: "Maybe<T>". Method of the day: "ToMaybe<T>()". He then went on to offer a Tekpub coupon to anyone who could guess where it came from. He linked to a further tweet which had a clue and from that I worked out that it was Entity Framework Code-Only but while trying to determine the usage someone else answered to which Rob replied ...EF CodeOnly - dealing with uncertainty.... So my question boils down to what exactly is he referring to with uncertainty and how does this fit in to Entity Framework Code-Only?

• Automatically number items in a wpf listbox

  I have a person class with two properties, Name an Age. I know how to use databinding to display a collection of person in a wpf list box and how to modify the listitemtemplate to customize how each person is displayed. Now I'd like to number each person on the list according to the order they appear on the list (which could change as the the items were sorted via name or age in the display). Is there a way to do that with the item template so instead of having a list like Rob - 14 John - 56 Suzy - 32 it would be 1) Rob - 14 2) John - 56 3) Suzy - 32 Basically i'd like to do something like: <ListView.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <WrapPanel> **<TextBlock Text="{Binding CurrentPositionInList}" />** <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=Name}" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=Age}" /> </WrapPanel> </DataTemplate> Thanks in advance!

  I have a data model in which I would like to have an item that has a description that can be edited. I would like to also keep track of all edits to the item. I am running into issues with my current strategy, which is: class Item < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :current_edit, :class_name => "Edit", :foreign_key => "current_edit_id" has_many :edits end class Edit < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :item end Can the Item have multiple associations to the same class like this? I was thinking that I should switch to keeping track of the edit version in the Edit object and then just sorting the has_many relationship base on this version.

  I have a text file that I need to parse using regular expressions. The text that I need to capture is in multiline groups like this: truck zDoug Doug's house (123) 456-7890 [email protected] 30 61234.56 8/10/2003 vehicle eRob Rob's house (987) 654-3210 [email protected] For this example I need to capture truck followed by the next seven lines.In other words, in this "block" I have 8 groups. This is what I've tried but it will not capture the next line: (truck)\n(\w). NOTE: I'm using the program RegExr to test my regex before I port it to Java.

  I've got the following query: select distinct a.id, a.name from Employee a join Dependencies b on a.id = b.eid where not exists ( select * from Dependencies d where b.id = d.id and d.name = 'Apple' ) and exists ( select * from Dependencies c where b.id = c.id and c.name = 'Orange' ); I have two tables, relatively simple. The first Employee has an id column and a name column The second table Dependencies has 3 column, an id, an eid (employee id to link) and names (apple, orange etc). the data looks like this Employee table looks like this id | name ----------- 1 | Pat 2 | Tom 3 | Rob 4 | Sam Dependencies id | eid | Name -------------------- 1 | 1 | Orange 2 | 1 | Apple 3 | 2 | Strawberry 4 | 2 | Apple 5 | 3 | Orange 6 | 3 | Banana As you can see Pat has both Orange and Apple and he needs to be excluded and it has to be via joins and i can't seem to get it to work. • Suppress checking for changes on file system in Eclipse RCP

  Okay, I guess this question is too difficult, but it's worth a try. I have an eclipse RCP application that edits HTML-files. I deal with the content of the files only in a W3C-Dom representation. There is some stuff that I can not do with that, so I the program edits each file each time after it is saved (save, save as). Of course, the file is then out of synch with the file system, and the next time I touch it, eclipse complains: "The file has been changed on the file system. Do you want to replace the editor contents with these changes? (Yes/No)" I do not want to load the changes into the editor ("No") Maybe there is a way to tell Eclipse programmatically to not check that file for changes, or to configure it to not check for changes on any file? edit: Everything has to be done either programatically or by editing some XML files. I can not expect the user to do anything;-)

  Hello, I'm walking through the FrontStore series tutorial on TDD in MVC (Part 3 by Rob Conery/ASP.NET). The test I'm concerned with is the CatalogRepository_Each_Category_Contains_5_Products(). Until I get to that test, everything was working fine. Now, I've gone through every line that makes this test (including the test itself, the TestCatalogRepository, ...). I've also compared my code to that of Rob, but the test keeps failing. I also checked the source code from CodePlex, that test was not there. Now, I wonder if I can put a break point somewhere to check the local values as the test is being executed? If not, something similar? Thanks for helping.
