• jQuery Rollovers Not Preloading

  $('.ro').hover( function(){ t = $(this); t.attr('src',t.attr('src').replace(/([^.]*)\.(.*)/, "$1_o.$2")); }, function(){ t = $(this); t.attr('src',t.attr('src').replace('_o','')); } ); I use this code so that (for examle) test.gif with the class 'ro' would change to test_o.gif on rollover, the problem is when the images aren't in the cache there is lag on rollover and rolloff. Basically if I clear my cache and visit the test page, everytime I rollover and rolloff the image it is loading the file each time, so you could sit there for hours and it would still be loading the rollover images each time. However, when I refresh the page and the images are now in the cache it works instantly, which is what I need to achieve. I've tried using this http://flesler.blogspot.com/2008/01/jquerypreload.html plugin to preload the images with this $.preload('.ro'); code, but it seems to have no effect. Any ideas?

• In a WPF Application, What happens after my code in the main window constructor is executed?

  I'm wondering what happens after the constructor is done executing my code, because the constructor is taking like 10 seconds to run on a cold start up, but according to the profiler, my code is done executing in like 2 seconds. Also stepping through the code in the debugger, after the last line of my constructor, I sit there and wait for 7-8 seconds before the window appears. Why is this? If the window is loading content or something, why isn't it displayed on the screen, done loading or not after the constructor finishes it's job? What's the hold up? (or how do i figure that out)

• php regex to remove HTML

  Before we start, strip_tags() doesn't work. now, I've got some data that needs to be parsed, the problem is, I need to get rid of all the HTML that has been formated very strangely. the tags look like this: (notice the spaces) < p > blah blah blah < / p > < a href= " link.html " > blah blah blah < /a > All the regexs I've been trying aren't working, and I don't know enough about regex formating to make them work. I don't care about preserving anything inside of the tags, and would prefer to get rid of the text inside a link if I could. Anyone have any idea? (I really need to just sit down and learn regular expressions one day)

• jQuery Cycle plugin: One pager to control multiple slideshow on a page

  Hi there, I have a cycle plugin set up on a page (images) with a pager to control the horizontal slide. My issue is that there is a transparent overlay that needs to sit over part of the images for some text relating to each image but would rather have that with a different transition effect for this so it doesn't slide in from the left. Am I able to set up to slideshows, each with 3 pieces of related content, that I can position correctly and have them controlled with the one pager?   When I write a comment, it's often a paragraph or a few lines that explains clearly what a bit of code is doing and why it's doing that. What I'd like is if I could start a comment, and have the editor automatically insert a line break and continue the comment to the nest line when I reach, say, 80 characters long. So I'd type: // Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. < here the editor breaks automatically and continues onto the next line: // Etiam congue quam eget leo dignissim tincidunt.

• How do I layout an image that will be dynamically sized in interface builder?

  I am having trouble laying out scrollable view in interface builder. A screen shot of my layout is here. As you can see the layout is pretty simple. The UIImageView above the text will not have a specific height. It may be 100px high or 300px high. This is why the view is scrollable. I am experiencing two problems with this layout: 1) For some reason the image will sit behind the text instead of pushing it down. Take a look here. 2) The obvious other problem is that the upper most UIImage and UILabel are getting pushed up off of the screen. I am thinking this has to do with the UIScrollView but I haven't been able to figure out why. Thanks!

• Error when trying to use PDO object

  EDIT: I'm going to put my code in here due to comments below. So sit tight for a few minutes ;-) Thanks! I'm an inexperienced php programmer and only found out about PDO a few days ago. I'm now trying to port my website code over to using PDO, but I am getting an error when I try to use the PDO object that I create. I'm using a CMS on my website, and it makes building page output kind of complicated, but I've tried to draw the structure of what is being called below: index.php -class myClass defined --method myFunction defined (it gets called on pageload & returns the page output) ---include file1.php ----require_once('mysql_connect.php') (creates pdo object) ----*I can use the pdo object here successfully* ----require_once('file2.php') -----require_once('mysql_connect.php') -----function myFunction2 defined ------*trying to use the pdo object here results in the error* The error I'm getting is: Fatal error: Call to a member function prepare() on a non-object in /home/rgcpanel/public_html/account/account_functions.php on line 147 Any idea what's going on?

  What techniques exist that can tell the difference betwen plain common phrases such as "to the", "and the" and set phrases and idioms which have their own lexical meanings such as "pick up", "fall in love", "red herring", "dead end"? Are there techniques which are successful even without a dictionary, statistical methods HMMs train on large corpora for instance? Or are there heuristics such as ignoring or weighting down "promiscuous" words which can co-occur with just about any word versus words which occur either alone or in a specific limited set of idiomatic phrases? If there are such heuristics, how do we take into account set phrases and verbal phrases which do incorporate promiscuous words such as "up" in "beat up", "eat up", "sit up", "think up"? • Magento Flash + XML frontend

  Hi guys, I'm working on a Flash frontend for a Magento powered store. This frontend will be an alternative to the HTML shop so it will sit in a subdirectory and use the same Magento installation as the main HTML site. The Flash application will get the data from dynamic XML files. It needs to get almost everything as the HTML site (categories, products, cart, etc). I want this to be a Magento module that can be installed on an already existing Magento installation. I would like to use the Block classes available in Magneto's core code as they already provide a lot of the functionality needed. What steps would you take in order to achieve this? Do you know any examples or articles related to this? Thanks!

Turns out my teamleader has been skilling up the indians behind my back even though I've been spending time and effort preparing a formal handover (to describe the design decisions and why). It just breeds lack of trust and sends the wrong message about the value of my work. Now I'm too furious to even talk to anyone. Do I sit in silence for the next 3 weeks waiting for my transfer?

• PHP upload with progress bar

  Hi all I want to create an upload form to upload large files. Thats pretty much easy, however, the upload process itself taks long and basically looks like nothing is happening for a few minutes. So now I'd like to insert a progress bar to show the user that something is happening and they should just sit tight. I've read of numerous methods like APC and certian flash plugins, but my site is hosted on a shared server and I cant install any new applications on it. I'm thinking, maybe if it is possible to read the size of the temp file it creates via an ajax page. By polling the size every few seconds I should be able to get the progress of the upload. Now the question I pose is...where is the temp file situated?

• Where can I find a good book holder for decent sized programming books?

  Suppose you have a book on a programming language and are trying to learn the language. You want to write the code that is given in the book in so you can learn by example while you read. But you hate holding the book on your lap and trying to type at the same time. I find that extremely uncomfortable. Someone recommended that I try using a music stand, but I figured the placement of that would be problematic since I would have to turn my head too much. Does anyone know of a good book holder that they can recommend that can sit next to your monitor so you can look at it while you type? Specifically, I am looking for one that can handle about a 600 page paperback book.

• Rotation of two objects in relation

  I've got a two sprites- I'll say I have a swing and a person. The swing 'swings' back and forth as I passed a rotation variable into spriteBatch.Draw(). Now I want my person to 'sit' on the swing, and am not sure of how to approach it. Since I want a relative to the swing sprite, I tried personPos=swingPos, but that obviously doesn't work as the swing's position is always the same (it's anchored to a point and swings from there). How would I make the person sprite follow the swinging part of the swing sprite, if that makes any sense?

• ASP.Net: Finding the cause of OutOfMemoryExpcetions

  I trying to track down the cause of an OutOfMemory for a website. This site has ~12,000 .aspx pages and the last time it crashed I captured a memory dump using adplus. After some investigation I found a lot of heap fragmentation, there are around 100MB of Free blocks which can't be assigned. Digging deeper one of the Large Object Heaps is fragmented and the causes seems to be String interning as described [here][1] Could this be caused by the number of pages in the site? As they are all compiled they sit in memory and by looking at the dump they are interned and PINNED which I think means they stick around for a while. I would find this odd as there are many sites with more pages, but dynamic compilation could account for the growth in memory. What other methods are there for finding the cause of the memory leak? • Resizing Tab Bar Controller Views (iPhone dev)

  Hello, I have an application set up where the window contains a tab bar controller and one of the tabs loads a NIB called 'ShowCaseView.xib': this file is owned by a custom ShowcaseViewController class. In the ShowcaseViewcontroller class I have added a UIScrollView object, like so: imageScrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:[[self view] bounds]]; [[self view] addSubview:imageScrollView]; The issue I am having is that this UIScrollView object extends beneath my tab bar controller. So I have had to reduce its insets manually: #define TAB_BAR_HEIGHT 48 . . UIEdgeInsets edgeInsets = UIEdgeInsetsMake(0, 0, TAB_BAR_HEIGHT, 0); [imageScrollView setScrollIndicatorInsets:edgeInsets]; So, Is it common to have to manually deduct the tab bar height from a view (whether this be by reducing the size of subviews or the View NIB in inspector)? Is there a way that I can tell a NIB's view loaded from a tab bar to resize itself automatically to NOT sit behind the tab bar? Cheers

• Filling a screen width

  I'm really struggling to tidy up a web site I am building for someone. I've spent hours on trying to figure this out! I have limited knowledge so the code would be helpful. They want the section at the top (originally two images, now I'm trying background images and css) to fill the width of the browser- no matter what size it is. Does anyone know how to do this? Similarly, is there a setting to get text to fill 100% width of the box, no matter what? I would seriously appreciate even someone helping me move on a step! they want everything to sit tight and inline, in some browsers/screens it does but on mine it spreads out with lots of white space. www.thegees.co.uk is the site.

• How does Task Parallel Library scale on a terminal server or in a web application?

  I understand that the TPL uses work-stealing queues for its tasks when I execute things like Parallel.For and similar constructs. If I understand this correctly, the construct will spin up a number of tasks, where each will start processing items. If one of the tasks complete their allotted items, it will start stealing items from the other tasks which hasn't yet completed theirs. This solves the problem where items 1-100 are cheap to process and items 101-200 are costly, and one of the two tasks would just sit idle until the other completed. (I know this is a simplified exaplanation.) However, how will this scale on a terminal server or in a web application (assuming we use TPL in code that would run in the web app)? Can we risk saturating the CPUs with tasks just because there are N instances of our application running side by side? Is there any information on this topic that I should read? I've yet to find anything in particular, but that doesn't mean there is none.

• Including javascript files from other projects inside the same solution

  I have a project called WebResources where I have all the JS files that I intend to use in 2 other projects (all three projects sit in the same solution). I just spent 2 hours playing around with the file paths and VS just doesn't see the JS file (unless I specify the full path with the drive letter). Is there a trick to including javascript files relatively from other projects? My file structure is something like: Project1 Default.aspx Project2 WebResourcesProject /js testToInclude.js No matter how I try to include testToInclude.js inside Default.aspx, VS doesn't see it. Any ideas?

• Git pull error: unable to create temporary sha1 filename

  Hi everyone, I've got a small git repo setup with the only real purpose to be able to develop locally on several machines (work, home, laptop). Thus I have one branch and I commit/push once I leave a computer, pull once I sit down at the next. Has worked fine, up to now that is. Now when I pull on my 'live test' machine, I get the following: remote: Counting objects: 38, done. remote: Compressiremote: ng objects: 100% (20/20), done. remote: Total 20 (delta 17), reused 0 (delta 0) error: unable to create temporary sha1 filename .git/objects/ed: File exists fatal: failed to write object fatal: unpack-objects failed Searching around the net the only real answer I could find was the following: http://marc.info/?l=git&m=122720741928774&w=2 which basically states that this is a bogus error that's on top of the pile and thus says nothing about what really is wrong. Where do I go from here to find out what is wrong? Edit: Removed the local copy and re-cloned

  Hi everyone. I'd like to know, please, the correct way to write the symbols that the C family of languages use to begin and end comments. Before you all respond "a slash followed by an asterisk", I mean what's the correct way to write them on paper. (IE, How many points should the asterisk have? What angle should the slash be? etc) Everything I need so I can sit down and draw correct comment start and end symbols. Please note, I'm looking for the correct standard way. • Can Tomcat provide seperate (or HTTPS only) sessions for HTTPS requests?

  I have a web application which contains both secure (SSL) and non-secure pages. A user can login to the site and must appear logged-in in both the SSL and non-SSL areas. (NB. SSL isn't implemented via Tomcat, but via Apache HTTPD servers which sit in front of Tomcat - so Tomcat has no SSL configuration.) The logged-in state is currently maintained via a servlet session (using Tomcat's vanilla session management). The obvious issue with this approach is that the JSESSIONID cookie is transported over both HTTP and HTTPS connections, meaning that it's potentially possible to intercept it and hijack the session. Are there any solutions to this without rolling our own session management (i.e. does Tomcat cater for this situation)? I'm prepared to implement our own session management, but don't want to reinvent something that may already be supported.

Should I try approximate regular expressions or more statistical stuff based on number of punctation marks, length and so on?
