    I'm cocking this up and it should be really simple but the value of sortdate is none (note im only doing this because converting a string to a date in Python is a bugger). DateToPass = str(self.request.get('startdate')) mybreak.startdate = DateToPass faf = DateToPass.split('-') sortdate = str(faf[2] + faf[1] + faf[0]) That should work? but its just being stored as null though the datetopass is being stored fine.

  • Mac OS X Server 10.6 - Apple's software mirrored RAID worth it?

    Hi, I am installing an Intel Xserve (Quad core Xeon) with Snow Leopard Server (10.6) on two 80Gb 7200rpm SATA HDs. I created a mirrored RAID set using Disk Utility with those two drives, all went fine. I was then asking myself if this is really a good idea. I know that an hardware RAID system would be better, but what about this software RAID? Have you any feedback on this? Will it work fine if one HD breaks down? Does this affect performance? [UPDATE] In short: Hardware RAID is better than software RAID which is better than none. Thank you all for the answers, they were very helpful. Especially Gordon's script to monitor failures. As Apple's software RAID is pretty silent about a drive failure.

  • I need to duplicate software packages installed on one HPUX system to a test system

    I am very inexperienced with HPUX and need to duplicate a production server for a test environment. I have 11.11 on the prod server and have completed the base install on the test server. What I need is a way to add the installed packages from the prod server to the test server. Unfortunately I haven't the foggiest idea how to do this. I've thought of using ignite backup and restore but don't have matching tape types between the two. The other thought was using swlist to gather the installed packages and then going to the website to download and install on the test environment. Has anyone successfully done something like this? Pointers?

  • RAID1 rebuild fails due to disk errors

    Quick info: Dell R410 with 2x500GB drives in RAID1 on H700 Adapter Recently one of drives in RAID1 array on server failed, lets call it Drive 0. RAID controller marked it as fault and put it offline. I replaced faulty disk with new one (same series and manufacturer, just bigger) and configured new disk as hot spare. Rebuild from Drive1 started immediately and after 1.5 hour I got message that Drive 1 failed. Server was unresponsive (kernel panic) and required reboot. Given that half hour before this error rebuild was at about 40%, I estimated that new drive is not in sync yet and tried to reboot just with Drive 1. RAID controller complained a bit about missing RAID arrays, but it found foreign RAID array on Drive 1 and I imported it. Server booted and it runs (from degraded RAID). Here is SMART data for disks. Disks are about 1 year old, but it is pretty unbelievable to me that both would die within so short timespan.

  • Download JDK onto a remote server

    I want to get the latest JDK onto a server in a remote location. Downloading the JDK from Sun's website requires jumping through all kinds of hoops until you actually get the file. I'm not sure exactly if they use cookies or my IP address, but simply copying the file URL and trying wget on the server doesn't work. Googling for mirrors of the JDK, I could only find old versions. Right now I'm left with the option of downloading it into my computer, then uploading it to the server. This feels slow and stupid. Anyone got a better idea? EDIT: Thanks for all the replies. Just to clarify, as I'm writing this I'm rsyncing the 78MB file to my server. It should be done in about an hour, so it's not such a big deal. However, since this is not the first time I'm doing this, I was hoping for a better solution for next time. Solution: What I ended up doing was sudo aptitude install lynx-cur www-browser http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ From there it's mostly using the arrow and enter keys, and answering "Yes" to a lot of lynx security questions (about cookies and certificates).   • Save a single web page (with background images) with Wget

    I want to use Wget to save single web pages (not recursively, not whole sites) for reference. Much like Firefox's "Web Page, complete". My first problem is: I can't get Wget to save background images specified in the CSS. Even if it did save the background image files I don't think --convert-links would convert the background-image URLs in the CSS file to point to the locally saved background images. Firefox has the same problem. My second problem is: If there are images on the page I want to save that are hosted on another server (like ads) these wont be included. --span-hosts doesn't seem to solve that problem with the line below. I'm using: wget --no-parent --timestamping --convert-links --page-requisites --no-directories --no-host-directories -erobots=off http://domain.tld/webpage.html

  • Realtime file-level mirroring from local NTFS to network drive

    We have some data collection machines running WinXP. After a new file is written, we would like to immediately copy the new file to network storage (a NetApp CIFS share) automagically. We need realtime or near realtime copies generated (copy upon filehandle close would be fine -- these are not long-running system logs). Two commercial applications I've found so far are MirrorFile and IBM's Tivoli CDP. Are there any reliable open source programs or simple ways to get Shadow Copy to do something similar? Bonus points if it runs as a service.

    I have two data disks that were, heretofore, in a mobo RAID configuration in Windows 7. They are now separate AHCI disks, visible in Computer Management. How to I go about making them a single mirrored volume in Windows? Note: The data is backed up up on two other separate disks, but it's a fair amount of work to do a restore (over 120'000 files, and I have to reset permissions). Note2: Currently the two disks are identical, and I can use the content of either one for this.

    Hello all, 2 days ago, there was a question related to string.LastIndexOf(String.Empty) returning the last index of string. So I thought that; a string can always contain string.empty between characters like: "testing" == "t" + String.Empty + "e" + String.Empty +"sting" + String.Empty; After this, I wanted to test if String.IndexOf(String.Empty) was returning 0 because since String.Empty can be between any char in a string, that would be what I expect it to return and I wasn't wrong. string testString = "testing"; int index = testString.LastIndexOf(string.Empty); // index is 6 index = testString.IndexOf(string.Empty); // index is 0 It actually returned 0. I started to think that if I could split a string with String.Empty, I would get at least 2 string and those would be String.Empty and rest of the string since String.IndexOf(String.Empty) returned 0 and String.LastIndexOf(String.Empty) returned length of the string.. Here is what I coded: string emptyString = string.Empty; char[] emptyStringCharArr = emptyString.ToCharArray(); string myDummyString = "abcdefg"; string[] result = myDummyString.Split(emptyStringCharArr); The problem here is, I can't obviously convert String.Empty to char[] and result in an empty string[]. I would really love to see the result of this operation and the reason behind this. So my questions are: Is there any way to split a string with String.Empty? If it is not possible but in an absolute world which it would be possible, would it return an array full of chars like [0] = "t" [1] = "e" [2] = "s" and so on or would it just return the complete string?     I came across this shell script that can be used to split an entire directory across multiple compressed files. I am interested in making a minor tweak to this script. Lets say I have n GB of files in a directory. I do not want the contents of a particular folder to be split across multiple tar files but inside the same file. I want the n MB folder to be fit within a single compressed file and the remaining (n GB -n MB) split across multiple files. I am not sure whether it is possible with this script. I was looking forward to some suggestions. Though the script has been well documented, it is quite complex to understand for me

Is there any way I can separe a List into several separate lists of SomeObject, using the item index as the delimiter of each split? Let me exemplify: I have a List<SomeObject> and I need a List<List<SomeObject>> or List<SomeObject>[], so that each of these resulting lists will contain a group of 3 items of the original list (sequentially). eg.: Original List: [a, g, e, w, p, s, q, f, x, y, i, m, c] Resulting lists: [a, g, e], [w, p, s], [q, f, x], [y, i, m], [c] I'd also need the resulting lists size to be a parameter of this function.     Wondering if its possible to create a short simple and sweet cross-browser jQuery (1.6) function that would split #textarea1 content into two by preserving the characters that amount to less than its var maxlength limit and transfering the remaining characters that exceed its maxlength limit in #textarea2. #textarea1 can push excedant in #textarea2, but if #textarea1 contains less than the maxlength limit, by default it wont get filled up with #textarea2 content, but you would have the option programatically to override this. I am just beginning to scratch the surface of jQuery but I noticed that this simple javascript can nearly do the trick, minus the free-flowing character movement. Scratching my head on this one.     I am trying to implement a split view controller like UISplitViewController on the iPad, but I don't want the left pane to be hidden when the device is in portrait orientation. So I've created a UIViewController subclass for this in IB and it works fine without any sub-view controllers. Now I'm trying to wrap my head around what is required to setup and manage the two UIViewController objects for the left and right panes. In my app, they are going to both be UINavigationController with a UITableView in them. I've hit a mental road block about how to set this up and was hoping someone could point me to some sample code or give me a recommendation for architecture here...
