  • NHibernate lazy properties behavior?

    - by GeReV
    I've been trying to get NHibernate into development for a project I'm working on at my workplace. Since I have to put a strong emphasis on performance, I've been running a proof-of-concept stress test on an existing project's table with thousands of records, all of which contain a large text column. However, when selecting a collection of these records, the select statement takes a relatively long time to execute; apparently due to the aforementioned column. The first solution that comes to mind is setting this property as lazy: <property name="Content" lazy="true"/> But there seems to be no difference in the SQL generated by NHibernate. My question is, how do lazy properties behave in NHibernate? Is there some kind of type limitations I could be missing? Should I take a different approach altogether? Using HQL's new Class(column1, column2) approach works, but lazy properties sounds like a simpler solution. It's perhaps worth mentioning I'm using NHibernate 2.1.2GA with the Castle DynamicProxy. Thanks!

  • Need some help understanding a weird C behavior

    - by mike
    This part of my code works fine: #include <stdio.h> int main(){ //char somestring[3] = "abc"; int i, j; int count = 5; for((i=0) && (j=0); count > 0; i++ && j++){ printf("i = %d and j = %d\n", i, j); count--; } return 0; } The output as expected: i : 0 and j : 0 i : 1 and j : 1 i : 2 and j : 2 i : 3 and j : 3 i : 4 and j : 4 Things get weird when I uncomment the char string declaration on the first line of the function body. #include <stdio.h> int main(){ char somestring[3] = "abc"; ... } The output: i : 0 and j : 4195392 i : 1 and j : 4195393 i : 2 and j : 4195394 i : 3 and j : 4195395 i : 4 and j : 4195396 What's the logic behind this? I'm using gcc 4.4.1 on Ubuntu 9.10.

  • StructureMap singleton behavior not working

    - by user137348
    My code is public static class ContainerBootstrapper { public static void BootstrapStructureMap() { ObjectFactory.Initialize(x => x .ForRequestedType<ValueHolder>() .CacheBy(InstanceScope.Singleton) .TheDefaultIsConcreteType<ValueHolder>()); } } Initialization code (its a windows service) static class Program { static void Main() { ServiceBase[] ServicesToRun; ServicesToRun = new ServiceBase[] { new AppServer() }; ServiceBase.Run(ServicesToRun); ContainerBootstrapper.BootstrapStructureMap(); } } And then I call an instance like this: var valueHolder = ObjectFactory.GetInstance<ValueHolder>(); But I get everytime an new instance not the one used before.

  • Strange postgresql behavior

    - by Sergey
    Hi can someone explain me why it works like this? = select client_id from clients_to_delete; ERROR: column "client_id" does not exist at character 8 but, when putting this inside an IN()... = select * from orders where client_id in(select client_id from clients_to_delete); it works! and select all rows in the orders table. Same when running delete/update. Why it doesn't produce an error like before? Thank you!

  • Jquery find behavior in firefox 3.5.9

    - by dragoon
    Hi, i have the following piece of HTML code on my page: <tr> <td> <div> <input type="hidden" name="test" value=""> <input autocomplete="off" class="ffb-input watermark"> <div class="ffb"> <div class="content"> </div> </div> </div> </td> </tr> In JavaScript I get the <tr> element using jquery and trying to search for input like this: tr.find('div input:hidden') but nothing is returned. When I'm using find like this: tr.find('div input[type=hidden]') Everything is working fine. What is the reason for such behavor? I observe this only in FireFox 3.5.9, not in 3.6.3, Jquery 1.4.2

  • odd behavior when checking if radio button selected in jQuery

    - by RememberME
    I had the following check in my jQuery which I thought was working fine to see if a radio button was checked. if ($("input[@name='companyType']:checked").attr('id') == "primary") { ... } Here's the radiobuttons: <p> <label>Company Type:</label> <label for="primary"><input onclick="javascript: $('#sec').hide('slow');$('#primary_company').find('option:first').attr('selected','selected');" type="radio" name="companyType" id="primary" checked />Primary</label> <label for="secondary"><input onclick="javascript: $('#sec').show('slow');" type="radio" name="companyType" id="secondary" />Subsidiary</label> </p> Then, it suddenly stopped working (or so I thought). I did some debugging and finally realized that it was returning an id of "approved_status". Elsewhere on my form I have a checkbox called "approved_status". I realized that when I originally tested this, I must have testing it on records where approved_status is false. And, now most of my approved_statuses are true/checked. I changed the code to this: var id = $("input:radio[@name='companyType']:checked").attr('id'); alert(id); if (id == "primary") { And it's now properly returning "primary" or "secondary" as the id. So, it is working, but it seems that it's not checking the name at all and now just checking radio buttons. I just want to know for future use, what's wrong with the original code b/c I can see possibly having 2 different radio sets on a page and then my new fix probably wouldn't work. Thanks!

  • Strange profiler behavior: same functions, different performances

    - by arthurprs
    I was learning to use gprof and then i got weird results for this code: int one(int a, int b) { return a / (b + 1); } int two(int a, int b) { return a / (b + 1); } int main() { for (int i = 1; i < 30000000; i++) { two(i, i * 2); one(i, i * 2); } return 0; } and this is the profiler output % cumulative self self total time seconds seconds calls ns/call ns/call name 48.39 0.90 0.90 29999999 30.00 30.00 one(int, int) 40.86 1.66 0.76 29999999 25.33 25.33 two(int, int) 10.75 1.86 0.20 main If i call one then two the result is the inverse, two takes more time than one both are the same functions, but the first calls always take less time then the second Why is that? Note: The assembly code is exactly the same and code is being compiled with no optimizations

  • Has anyone seen this h:commandLink behavior?

    - by Liggy
    I have a very simple JSF form: <h:form id="simpleSearch"> <h:inputText id="surname" value="#{myBean.surname}" required="true" /> <h:commandLink>Search</h:commandLink> </h:form> When this page is rendered, the anchor that is generated looks like this (for brevity, I stripped out the generated onclick code): Search<a href="#" onclick="..."></a> As you can see, the "Search" is outside the anchor and the anchor body is empty. This is useless to me. I can't use this. Are there any suggestions/references/miracles out there to help me fix/understand what is going on here? Thanks!

  • Weird behavior of fork() and execvp() in C

    - by ron
    After some remarks from my previous post , I made the following modifications : int main() { char errorStr[BUFF3]; while (1) { int i , errorFile; char *line = malloc(BUFFER); char *origLine = line; fgets(line, 128, stdin); // get a line from stdin // get complete diagnostics on the given string lineData info = runDiagnostics(line); char command[20]; sscanf(line, "%20s ", command); line = strchr(line, ' '); // here I remove the command from the line , the command is stored in "commmand" above printf("The Command is: %s\n", command); int currentCount = 0; // number of elements in the line int *argumentsCount = &currentCount; // pointer to that // get the elements separated char** arguments = separateLineGetElements(line,argumentsCount); printf("\nOutput after separating the given line from the user\n"); for (i = 0; i < *argumentsCount; i++) { printf("Argument %i is: %s\n", i, arguments[i]); } // here we call a method that would execute the commands pid_t pid ; if (-1 == (pid = fork())) { sprintf(errorStr,"fork: %s\n",strerror(errno)); write(errorFile,errorStr,strlen(errorStr + 1)); perror("fork"); exit(1); } else if (pid == 0) // fork was successful { printf("\nIn son process\n"); // if (execvp(arguments[0],arguments) < 0) // for the moment I ignore this line if (execvp(command,arguments) < 0) // execute the command { perror("execvp"); printf("ERROR: execvp failed\n"); exit(1); } } else // parent { int status = 0; pid = wait(&status); printf("Process %d returned with status %d.", pid, status); } // print each element of the line for (i = 0; i < *argumentsCount; i++) { printf("Argument %i is: %s\n", i, arguments[i]); } // free all the elements from the memory for (i = 0; i < *argumentsCount; i++) { free(arguments[i]); } free(arguments); free(origLine); } return 0; } When I enter in the Console : ls out.txt I get : The Command is: ls execvp: No such file or directory In son process ERROR: execvp failed Process 4047 returned with status 256.Argument 0 is: > Argument 1 is: out.txt So I guess that the son process is active , but from some reason the execvp fails .   • Weird jQuery UI Slider behavior using Page Up/Down

    - by qlassic
    I'm using jQuery UI's slider to update a div containing a number. Dragging or using the left/right keys should only allow the user to choose a number between 1 and 5 (this works as intended). However, if the handle has focus and I use page up/down, I start to get rounded values that are well out of the range of 1-5. Anybody experience the same? Thoughts?

  • naming a function that exhibits "set if not equal" behavior

    - by Chris Sears
    This might be an odd question, but I'm looking for a word to use in a function name. I'm normally good at coming up with succinct, meaningful function names, but this one has me stumped so I thought I'd appeal for help. The function will take some desired state as an argument and compare it to the current state. If no change is needed, the function will exit normally without doing anything. Otherwise, the function will take some action to achieve the desired state. For example, if wanted to make sure the front door was closed, i might say: my_house.<something>_front_door('closed') What word or term should use in place of the something? I'd like it to be short, readable, and minimize the astonishment factor. A couple clarifying points... I would want someone calling the function to intuitively know they didn't need to wrap the function an 'if' that checks the current state. For example, this would be bad: if my_house.front_door_is_open(): my_house.<something>_front_door('closed') Also, they should know that the function won't throw an exception if the desired state matches the current state. So this should never happen: try: my_house.<something>_front_door('closed') except DoorWasAlreadyClosedException: pass Here are some options I've considered: my_house.set_front_door('closed') my_house.setne_front_door('closed') # ne=not equal, from the setne x86 instruction my_house.ensure_front_door('closed') my_house.configure_front_door('closed') my_house.update_front_door('closed') my_house.make_front_door('closed') my_house.remediate_front_door('closed') And I'm open to other forms, but most I've thought of don't improve readability. Such as... my_house.ensure_front_door_is('closed') my_house.conditionally_update_front_door('closed') my_house.change_front_door_if_needed('closed') Thanks for any input!

  • Debug startup program behavior

    - by iceman
    I want to Debug a program called Freecall in my Windows 7 Professional laptop. Now it shows as a Startup item in "System Configuration" console. I tried to uncheck it in the Startup item and restart, but it keeps on adding itself to HKCU\Software|Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. i think its the same for Yahoo messenger..these programs keep on adding to startup even after I manually deleted the entry from the registry. I want to debug and find out if after starting the executable, the program writes to the registry. How can I do that? Is there a way I can run the binary in Sandbox mode? Are there any VS tools for this?

  • How to get parallel behavior in Java Script ?

    - by Biswanath
    More or less I want to execute two functions in parallel. One way as I see is doing through SetTimeOut function. I have not completely gone through the ReactiveExentension, although it looks promising but may be overkill for my needs. Is there any framework which supports parallelism ? My use case is trivial, but I would like to know if anybody heavily needed parallelism in Java Script ? Thanks, Biswanath.

  • GCC compiler -- bug or unspecified behavior?

    - by Jared P
    When I have conflicting definitions of the ivars of a class in objective-c (not redeclaring the class in the same file, but rather naming the same class with diff ivars, no warnings or better yet errors are issued by the compiler. However, both sets of ivars are useable by the appropriate methods in the respective files. For instance Foo.m: @interface foo { int a; } - (int)method; @end @implementation foo - (int)method { return a; } @end Bar.m: @interface foo { float baz; } @end @implementation foo (category) - (float)blah { return baz; } @end compiles without warnings or errors. Is this intentional? Is this an unchecked error? (for the record, a and baz are actually the same memory location.)

  • Jquery gradient behavior applies to all but first URL

    - by Dustin
    I've got a page that shows my photography portfolio. I'm trying to do a jquery gradient on the text, and it's working on all but the first link. Here's the html: <h1><a href="portfolio/engagements"><span></span>engagements</a> | </h1><br> <h1><a href="portfolio/weddings"><span></span>weddings</a> | </h1> <br> <h1><a href="portfolio/bridals"><span></span>bridals</a> | </h1> <br> <h1><a href="portfolio/families"><span></span>families</a> | </h1> <br> <h1><a href="portfolio/seniors"><span></span>seniors</a> </h1> <br> And here's the jquery call: $(".jquery h1").prepend("<span></span>"); And here's the css for it: .gradient4 span { background: url(images/gradient-dark.png) repeat-x; position: absolute; bottom: -0.1em; display: inline; width: 100%; height: 29px; } The problem I'm having is that all urls but the first link (currently 'engagements'), have the gradient effect. Any ideas why the first link isn't working?

  • Odd toString behavior in javascript

    - by George
    I have this small function that's behaving oddly to me. Easy enough to work around, but enough to pique my curiosity. function formatNumber(number,style) { if (typeof style == 'number') { style = style.toString(); } return (number).format(style); } The return format part is based on another function that requires the style variable to be a string to work properly, so I'm just checking if style is a number and if it is to convert it to a string. When the function above is written as is, the format function format doesn't work properly. However when I write it as simply: return (number).format(style.toString()); Everything works. Is there a difference between putting the .toString function inside the format call vs performing it before hand and setting it as the variable style?

  • Polymorphic behavior not being implemented

    - by Garrett A. Hughes
    The last two lines of this code illustrate the problem: the compiler works when I use the reference to the object, but not when I assign the reference to an array element. The rest of the code is in the same package in separate files. BioStudent and ChemStudent are separate classes, as well as Student. package pkgPoly; public class Poly { public static void main(String[] arg) { Student[] stud = new Student[3]; // create a biology student BioStudent s1 = new BioStudent("Tom"); // create a chemistry student ChemStudent s2 = new ChemStudent("Dick"); // fill the student body with studs stud[0] = s0; stud[1] = s1; // compiler complains that it can't find symbol getMajor on next line System.out.println("major: " + stud[0].getMajor() ); // doesn't compile; System.out.println("major: " + s0.getMajor() ); // works: compiles and runs correctly } }

  • Method sscanf() ambiguous behavior

    - by Carmen Cojocaru
    I am trying to understand how sscanf() works. I ran some examples from this page: http://docs.roxen.com/pike/7.0/tutorial/strings/sscanf.xml and they don't work on my platform. I can't understand why. For instance: "sscanf("4711bar", "%d%s", a, b);" makes the program exit with an error... Here is one of the examples that work: "sscanf("foo", "f%s", a);". Does anybody know why? Do they work on your platforms? Thank you. This is my code: int main(void){ char *b = (char*)malloc(sizeof(char)*100); int a = 0; sscanf("4711bar", "%d%s", a, b); printf("%d", a); printf("%s", b); }

  • PivotControl item changing behavior in Silverlight Windows Phone 7

    - by Rosarch
    I have an app where the user is sent to a page with a PivotControl. The SelectedIndex is not known until the user navigates to the page. I'm setting the SelectedIndex, but it causes the PivotControl to start on index 0, then flip through to the index I set. This is kind of annoying, and I'd rather just have it go directly to the index I set. Is there some way around this? One hack I thought up was providing the data to pivotControl.ItemsSource in an order such that the item I want the user to start on is index 0 in ItemsSource. But that would be kind of messy, and I'm wondering if there's a more elegant solution.

  • About the armlink behavior when the linked object is not explicitly used by the main executable

    - by thincal
    I want to link the example with liba.so, and also the example is NOT using anything inside the liba.so ... armlink --userlibpath /mylib/lib liba.so --fpic --shared -o example main.o demo.o So finally I got nothing from: readelf -d example | grep NEEDED, it seems that armlink do some optimization to remove the linked library which is not really used by the "example" ? If I want to let the liba.so be always linked into example, what need I do with armlink options ? Any information is very appreciated ;)

So, now ptr should be pointing to garbage. Why is this happening?
