• How to stop ethernet interface in bridge configuration from obtaining IP address via DHCP

  Hi! I'm trying to configure openvpn in bridging configuration. First step of doing this requires creating bridge interface (br0), bridging together physical ethernet interface (eth0) and logical tap0 interface. This can be done with simple script but I want to use less popular approach, configuring bridge interface entirely via /etc/network/interfaces file (on Debian linux). So I have removed all eth0 definitions form /etc/network/interfaces and replaced if with following br0 definition: auto br0 iface br0 inet static pre-up openvpn --mktun --dev tap0 address 10.0.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 bridge_ports eth0 tap0 post-down openvpn --rmtun --dev tap0 This works as I expected, but there is only one problem: interface eth0 is part of bridge interface br0 AND it also receive it's own IP address from my DHCP server (located on same LAN where eth0 is connected). My questions is: how to stop eth0 interface from obtaining it's own IP address? (It should only be part of br0 bridge).

  I am on Windows 7 and using Firefox browser. I am using WiFi, but since the morning I cannot access the Internet via the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, or IE). The laptop shows there is Internet connection, Skype is online, but I can't reach the Internet. Then I launched Tor application which creates secure channel and provides its Firefox browser. Well, I can now access the Internet over that browser. So, what might be the problem causing this malfunction? The error: The connection has timed out The server at mail.google.com is taking too long to respond. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. • Start jade via batch script as service on windows server 2012 amazon ec2 instance

  I would like to start the Jade agent platform with a batch script on an windows server ec2 instance as a service. The reason for this is, that I want to start jade automatically at system startup. For creating the service I use nssm. However so far its working fine and the service is created. When I want to start the service I get an error message: Windows could not start the NAME service on Local Computer. The service did not return an error... My batch file contains only one line: java jade.Boot -platform-id P%random% If i execute the script via cmd it works fine. Anybody got an idea why this is not working if I start the batch script as a service?

• Download a file via HTTP from a script in Windows

  I want a way to download a file via HTTP given its URL (similar to how wget works). I've seen the answers to this question, but I have two changes to the requirements: I'd like it to run on Windows 7 or later (though if it works on Windows XP, that's a bonus). I need to be able to do this on a stock machine with nothing but the script, which should be text that could be easily entered on a keyboard or copy/pasted. The shorter, the better. So, essentially, I'd like a .cmd (batch) script, VBScript, or Powershell script that can accomplish the download. It could use COM or invoke IE, but it needs to run without any input, and should behave well when invoked without a display (such as through a telnet session).

• Accessing localhost via IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 very slow

  (I've asked this over on stackoverflow already, but thought I'd ask here as well) I'm currently running an ASP.NET application on IIS 7.5 on Windows 7. When I access this application on Internet Explorer (either 6, 7 or 8) it is incredible slow and often fails to load at all. There are messages at the bottom saying: Waiting for http://localhost/....... or sometimes waiting for about:blank (I've read that this can be a virus, but I've run all the usual checks and it's not). constantly, but it returns with the usual: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" I've also tried this by using 127.0.0.1 and the machine name, with the same results. I've tried the same application on the latest Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera and they all work fine. I've also installed the same application on a Windows Server 2003 machine, and it all works fine via Internet Explorer. I've also turned off the IPv6 setting on the LAN connection. Soes anyone have any ideas why this doesn't work with Internet Explorer and yet does with other browsers?

• Accessing network resources via vpn connection failes

  I already found some information on this problem here, but I still can't get it to work. Im trying to access some network resources on my server via vpn over the net. Im using a win7 home pc here and a win server 2008 rc2 with installed ras&routing role on the server. For vpn authentication I use a local user on the server with vpn-access. This user also has the rights to access to the network resources, but it neither finds the server under network nor is it able to connect the network drives... In similar topics here I found out that using the same credentials for vpn-authentication and network resources access does not work, but using different user for access didn't work either. All of these examples I found were in an active directory structure, but I don't have an active directory here. Does anyone know how to solve this problem without having to use an active directory?   I have a Thomson 585V6 router which has built in voip support. I want to be able to use a softphone to make calls. for example phone my dad's mobile. Any incomming calls to my normal bt number should be taken via my pc as well. What I have done so far: I've wired the pstn port on the router to the telephone jack. The router is connected to my pc. I have installed asterisk on the pc I want to take calls on. The sip client authenticates to the sip server. output from twinkle: Sun 22:46:45 home, registration succeeded (expires = 3600 seconds) how do I take external calls/ answer incoming calls from pstn?

• Installing "SoX" via the Terminal

  I'm new to installing applications via the Terminal, so excuse my absolute ignorance on the subject. I want to install SoX ( http://sox.sourceforge.net/ ), so I can do some ninja audio editing. First I installed git, then I installed SoX. I didn't get any error messages and the installation has spawned a sox-folder in my Users/myName-folder. However when I use the program by typing "sox" in the Terminal, nothing happens, all I get is "command not found". Does anybody know how to troubleshoot this?

  I am renting a VPS with Debian installed running JBoss AS6 for my web app. I recently had some problems with my DNS hosts as they messed up the A-records for my domain which caused some new A-records to be added by mistake The DNS problem is now sorted and the domain is working ok, however I noticed that the web server no longer responds via direct IP or hostname in a web browser (although it pings ok and I can SSH in using the hostname ok) Is there any explanation for this? I am using rinetd to forward traffic from 80 to port 8080 but thats been ok for a while Any suggestions would be appreciated Regards

• Streamline Active Directory account creation via automated web site

  In my company we have high employee turnover, and hence our helpdesk receives about a dozen requests per week for new Active Directory accounts. Currently, we receive these requests simply via e-mail or voice-mail, and rarely do we have all of the information necessary to create the account. I would like to find a web application that can be used by a manager or supervisor to formalize the requests they make for AD accounts for new employees under their command. Ideally, the application would prompt for all of necessary information, and allow the helpdesk to review the requests and approve or deny each one. If approved, the application would take care of creating the account and send an e-mail to the manager. I have found several application on the Internet that handle self-service account management (i.e., password resets or update contact info), which is also nice to have, but nothing that streamlines the new account request and creation part. Can anyone make suggestions on such an application? Thanks.

• Deploying Office 2013 via GPO

  Looking at potential ways to deploy Office 2013 via GPO. First and most obvious way is to run a startup script which calls the Office 2013 setup.exe. Problem here is what happens after it is installed, will that startup script keep re-installing the product every time the machine boots? Another potential way is to install each Office component separately using the multitude of .msi files which are present, would that work and provide the same thing as a full install of Office? There is actually twenty three separate .msi files. What about officemui.msi is that a wrapper which contains calls to all of the other office components.

• How to get cluster information remotely via Powershell?

  I've been trying to find a good way to gather various pieces of a windows cluster setup remotely, preferably via WMI, as we are not yet at a point where Powershell remoting is implemented (and I know this problem goes away with that). I know I can use the following to get the current node: Get-WmiObject Win32_ComputerSystem -ComputerName RemoteServer1 | Select Name I also need the name property of Get-Cluster, which I can't figure out how to get from a remote system. Is there something out there, or should I wait it out until Remoting gets implemented? I'm a newbie to all things clustering, just a dba looking to inventory our servers properly. • Converting DOCX files to PDF via SSH without losing formatting

  I'm struggling to find a solution that will allow me to convert a DOCX file to a PDF without losing or malforming the formatting of the document on CentOS 5.7. I have tried CUPS-PDF but it doesn't work; spool files appear in the /var/spool folder but nothing happens after that. OpenOffice and LibreOffice converted a DOCX to PDF but the formatting was all wrong. However if I print the DOCX to a Windows PDF printer from my Windows 7 workstation, it outputs to PDF absolutely fine. So why can't Linux do the same? I tried to print via CUPS to the Windows PDF printer (shared) but the document appears in the queue as "Remote Downlevel Document" and doesn't print. This only happens when I print from Linux.

  when I am trying to access the server through ssh it says: ssh: connect to host xx.yyy.zzz.x port 22: Connection refused and on the server in auth.log it shows following log entry: Address xx.yyy.zzz.x maps to xx.yyy.zzz.x.static-pune-vsnl.net.in, but this does not map back to the address - POSSIBLE BREAK-IN ATTEMPT! I have created a user account for that user and it is also in enabled status. • Blocking apache access via user agent string

  I've got a scripter who is using a proxy to attack a website I'm serving. I've noticed that they tend to access the site via software with a certain common user agent string (i.e. http://www.itsecteam.com/en/projects/project1_page2.htm "Havij advanced sql injection software" with a user_agent string of Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727) Havij). I'm aware that any cracking software worth it's salt will probably be able to modify it's user agent string, but I'm fine with the scripter having to deal with that feature at some point. So, is there any software out there for automatically blocking access & permanently blacklisting by matching user agent strings?

• Should I impersonate PHP via FastCGI?

  I am installing the latest version of PHP onto IIS 7.5 via FastCGI, and all of the instructions say that FastCGI should impersonate the calling client by setting fastcgi.impersonate = 1 If my website will have this configuration dedicated application pool application pool identity of ApplicationPoolIdentity anonymous authentication only (as IUSR) why do I want to impersonate? I come from an ASP.NET background, where the IUSR gets read-only permissions and the application pool identity gets any write permissions. Giving write access to the IUSR usually opens the door for WebDAV vulnerabilities. So I hesitate to let PHP run as the IUSR. I can't find many people asking this question (1 | 2) so I think I must be missing something. Can someone clarify this for me?

• Access Denied on LAN IIS Access via Integrated Authentication

  I have an IIS 7.5 (Win2k8R2) Webserver, which publishes an UNC Share (on a Fileserver) with restricted access. The AppPool Identity is a Domain User-Account with read access to mentioned UNC path. Authentication modes are set to Anonymous and Integration Authentication. When I access the path via localhost from the Webserver itself, it works, but if I try the Hostname or IP from either the Webserver or a Client, I get three authentication prompts (does not accept my credentials) and a 401.3 Unauthorized error message (but it states that I am logged in as my normal credentials which definitely have access rights to the UNC path and its files). Security Zone is set to Local Intranet. Sysiniternals Process Monitor lists CreateFile operations on the UNC path (and other existing files in it) with Access Denied and Impersonating on the correct credentials. I don't understand why it is not working, it seems to use the correct credentials on every step on the way but fails with is operations.

  I would like to be able to change active directory passwords via a Linux/Apache based webpage. This would be a self serve web page for the user. I have SSL-LDAP setup on the Active Directory to make this happen. Is there any project or code out there that will do this? I've looked at this phpadadmin and I cannot get it to work. I think this is for IIS/php/mySQL Another thing to note is I would like the user to authenticate to change their own password. The product/service should not need a privileged account to run. • Rollback driver in Windows via command line

  I have a remote system in which I've updated the Nvidia graphics driver, but now RDPDD.dll, which I'm guessing stands for RDP Display Driver, will not load (found this out via Event Viewer). I can use Sysinternal's Psexec to execute commands though. I'm sure something has gone very wrong and the user of this system (a CAD engineer) won't be able to use his system normally. I've tried two remote reboots and that has not resolved the issue. So I would like to use the "Roll Back" option for the Nvidia driver in the device manager. Is there a command-line way of doing this?

• Tunneling HTTPS traffic via a PUTTY/SSL tunnel with SOCKS

  I have configured a SOCKS ssh tunnel to a remote proxy, and set my Firefox to use localhost:<port> as a SOCKS proxy. My intention is to tunnel outgoing HTTP/S connections from my machine via a specific 3rd party server I own (on AWS). In my testing, HTTP UTLs are forwarded properly (e.g. when I access http://jsonip.com/ from my computer I do get the server's IP) However, whenever I try to reach an HTTPS address, I get this error: The proxy server is refusing connections How do I debug/fix it? My PUTTY tunnel config is simply (some random source port number + dynamic checked): P.S. I'm aware I might need to manually accept SSL certificates. The reason I'm doing this is to resolve problems using gmail as an outbound SMTP service.

• Running a VM off of an external HD via USB

  Is it viable to run (i.e. reference the vmx/vhd directly from the mounted drive) a VM (vmware running Windows Seven) off of an external HD via USB? I mean, I know it's possible, but I guess I'm asking if USB provides enough bandwidth for normal usage... If so, are there any particular brands that may be better or worse? I know that ESATA would be a more viable setup, but my laptop doesn't have an ESATA port. Currently I use the VM to segregate all of my work development servers and software from my main machine; so I will be running all development servers and tools on the VM directly.

• Android tethering via bluetooth keeps disconnecting

  I'm currently using a Google Nexus tablet tethered via Bluetooth to a Samsung S3 for internet. Two things are annoying me. First, if I take the phone away from the tablet (go out for lunch), the tablet disconnects and has to be manually reconnected. Is there a way to have that happen automatically? Second, Bluetooth tethering, i.e. the internet sharing part needs to be switched on each time the bluetooth is switched on (or perhaps just after power cycling) on the S3. Is there no way to have that default to on? Thanks

• Prevent member of administrator group loging in via Remote Desktop

  In order to support some build processes on our Server 2003 development servers, we require a common user account that has administrative privs. Unfortuantly, this also means that anyone that knows the password can also gain admin privs on a server. Assume that trying to keep the password secret is a failed exercise. Developers that need admin privs already have admin privs so should be able to log in as themselves. So the question is a simple one: is there anything I can configure to prevent people (ab)using the account to gain administrator on servers they shouldn't have administrator on? I'm aware that devs could disable anything that is put in place, but that's then down to process and auditing to track and manage. I don't mind where or how: it can be via the local security policy, group policy, a batch file executed in the user's profile, or something else.

• CentOS 6 - iptables preventing web access via port 80

  I'm setting up a new web server with CentOS 6.2 and am not able to connect via the web. Everything looks set up correctly in httpd.conf and Apache is running, so I'm assuming it's an iptables issue. • How do I add permissions via command line for "everyone" on external HDD

  I have an external HDD and I kind of messed up the file permissions but when fixing it I thought it is ok bc with my username I can access the files perfectly fine. Now that I use this with two PC (actually ATM I don't have access to my other PC) I can't access these files. The problem is this directory has hundreds of folders with no permission for "everyone". I would like to give it the default permissions including have all access for the user "everyone". How do I do that via command line for these hundreds of folders?
