• Android - Looking for an AOP solution

  I'm writing an application that on the bottom line uses it's internal API for some manipulations. The problem is that to call any method provided by that class first I (or anybody who uses the API) have to call #prepare() and after that #cleanup(). It all worked fine until the application and the API started to grow. And the risk of not calling one of the supplied methods before or after the API is now to big to be ignored (which makes it a bug risky application). Searching for a solution I found this question. I use Google Guice in my app for other purposes, but Android doesn't support AOP, that's why a use only guice-no_aop-x.jar. So I end-up with two questions: Is there an AOP solution for android to implement the same approach that is shown in the link above? Or may be someone has an idea that will be suitable for my case?   Hi there IMHO to me OOPS, design patterns make sense and i have been able to apply them practically. But when it comes to "generic programming /meta programming" of the Modern C++ kind, i am left confused. -- Is it a new programming/design paradigm ? -- Is it just limited to "library development"? If not, What design/coding situations call for using meta programming/generic programming. -- Does using templates mean i am doing generic programming? I have googled a lot on this topic but do not grasp the BIG PICTURE fully. Also see this post. After reading dicussions here under, up till now, I am sure ( might still not be correct): a) Generic programming and meta programming are two different concepts.

  I work largely as an architect, and have developed a pretty big enterprise application based on SOA. Turns out my teamleader has been skilling up the indians behind my back even though I've been spending time and effort preparing a formal handover (to describe the design decisions and why). It just breeds lack of trust and sends the wrong message about the value of my work. Now I'm too furious to even talk to anyone. Do I sit in silence for the next 3 weeks waiting for my transfer?

  Hello Ive a website that create avatars for users and provide them with link for avatar to use it in their website or singuters etc , my problems is the website based on flash . the main page has 1 swf file that load other swfs used to create avatars , if someone knows the link for the these swf files he can download them which means he can have all the website lets say: www.test.com as main page which load main swf and other swfs files which located at www.test.com/resources/flash/swffiles/file1.swf anyone can grap these files and have all the website which is a big security breach ive trying so many way protect these files from not download but protecting them means the main swf cant talk to them and cant load the main page correctaly , any suggestion for these .. thanks in advance

• Is there an easy way to make `boost::ptr_vector` more debugger friendly in Visual Studio?

  I'm considering using boost::ptr_container as a result of the responses from this question. My biggest problem with the library is that I cannot view the contents of the collection in the debugger, because the MSVC debugger doesn't recognize it, and therefore I cannot see the contents of the containers. (All the data gets stored as void * internally) I've heard MSVC has a feature called "debugger visualizers" which would allow the user to make the debugger smarter about these kinds of things, but I've never written anything like this, and I'm not hugely firmiliar with such things. For example, compare the behavior of boost::shared_ptr with MSVC's own std::tr1::shared_ptr. In the debugger (i.e. in the Watch window), the boost version shows up as a big mess of internal variables used for implementing the shared pointer, but the MSVC version shows up as a plain pointer to the object (and the shared_ptr's innards are hidden). How can I get started either using or implementing such a thing?

  What is the recommended way to log application-specific messages in web2py? I found the documentation on HTTP logging, but I'm thinking more of messages for debugging and tracking. Should I simply use the logging module in each separate controller file? Is there a central place in which I could initialize a logger that can be shared between controllers? Or, is something built-in to web2py that I should use? Update: It looks like I can't even fully use the logging module in web2py. It looks like web2py ships with it's own version of the python libraries (in library.zip), which I'm not a big fan of. Is that by design? I'm guessing there will be issues with simply adding my installed Python libraries to the sys.path at run-time, so what should I do?

  When using some existing forum software in a larger web-site, how easy is it to: 1)Make your site's login functionality log the user into the forum 2)Make your site's registration functionality create forum login data I suppose in a way it might be easier to ONLY use the forum's database for maintaining users, but that means trusting it with sensitive data. I'm planning an integration between an existing bespoke desktop app and a new bespoke web-site which should include forums. I don't know which forums will be used but I know the new web functionality won't be PHP-based. I figure that's not a big deal but I'm wondering if forums typically allow configuration of where they look for login data, to avoid duplicating this data into my DB and the forum DB.

• Resizing page format on iReport

  I've been trying to print a pdf made from iReport in less than a page A4. it's like half A4 page height. I'm using a Line Matrix printer, doesn't matter which one. So, when I try to print 2 files at same file, it should print everything on the right place, but just first file is printed correctly. The second one is based on a A4 page format, and just starts printing after A4 page height is over, skipping a big blank. Where can I set the size of page in iReport? The only thing I could do was setting size of what is shown on screen while I edit the file. I tried my best to explain the situation, any doubts, ask me and I'll try even harder.

• Improving the efficiency of Kinect for Windows DTWGestureRecognition Application

  Currently I am using the DTWGestureRecognition open source tool for Kinect SDK v1.5. I have recorded a few gestures and use them to navigate through Windows 7. I also have implemented voice control for simple things such as opening PowerPoint, Chrome, etc. My main issue is that the application uses quite a bit of my CPU power which causes it to become slow. During gestures and voice commands, the CPU usage sometimes spikes to 80-90%, which causes the application to be unresponsive for a few seconds. I am running it on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine with an i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. I was wondering if anyone with any experience using this tool or Kinect in general has made it more efficient and less performance hogging. Right now I removed sections which display the RGB video and the Depth video but even doing that did not make a big impact. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

• Saving highscores coupled to a facebook account

  I want to offer a "highscore" list for friends in my app (at this point iPhone/iPad), so that if the user connected to facebook, he will get a list with his/her friends scores. Connecting is easy, retrieving friends is easy, but figuring out the best way to store the scores is not. As it seems I need to the store the scores on my own server server, no big deal. But what is considered a reasonable safe way to transfer the data? When communicating with facebook, authentication is clear - but communicating with my server basically anyone could post scores for another user if I send user id and score. Obfuscation might help a bit, but is there any better way to make sure that the data comes from the fb-logged-in person? Scores can also go down, so changing scores for other persons won't necessary help them. Thanks :)

• Android: duplicate items in ListVew. Maybe getView() called too many times?

  Hi, I am trying to create a simple program which displays a "shopping cart" list of items, along with a few buttons below it to manage the cart. The biggest problem is that items are getting duplicate entries in the list view. That is, for every item I want to enter I see it appear two times in the list view. What's the problem? Also, the scrollable area of my cart is not big enough. How do I set it so that it is bigger but I can still see my buttons? Perhaps I should put the buttons above the cart? • Microsoft leaning support for VS2010

  OK, I am a big fan of WPF, and while it is large area to fully understand, Microsoft has been great in posting loads of training video at http://windowsclient.net/learn/videos_wpf.aspx However with the release of 2010 it all seams to have gone very quite. I expected a lot of the support to be updated for 2010 and I also expected a lot of new videos on the best way to use the new features in 2010. Currently I find myself working through videos based on 2008 (or even 2005) and trying to apply them to 2010. Don't get me wrong it not that I mind doing this, it just that I fear I may be learning methods which have better or different solutions in 2010. It is just me expecting too much of Microsoft, or have I missed out on a new website?

• Open source configuration framework for ASP.NET - does one exist?

  We currently have an old product written in classic asp and are about to re-write parts in ASP.NET. One big problem is that much of the cutomer-specifics within the system are hard coded. We want to split this out for specific customers by storing data in the database. Is there a quick an easy open source framework which allows me to set up some quick tables and simple UIs to allow me to change configuration items? We have 6-7 modules, and it would be nice to have the ability to have system admins gain access to a configuration area where they can set-up settings in a tabbed UI format, settings could also be set-up to allow dropdown, fields, numbers etc. The items could then be accessed via classes in C#/vb for use within the operational parts of the system. If not, I'm suprised and it might even be a good basis for a new open source project.

• Footer height based on screen size

  Hi everyone, I would like to create a footer which is relative to the content (so not fixed), but fills the rest of the screen. So for example, on my larger monitor, the footer would start in the same place, but fill up 100px (for example). On a smaller monitor, it only needs to fill up 75px. I tried using 100%, but it causes the page to be really big and the user can scroll down and fill the entire screen with the footer. Is there a way to get it to be a bit more reasonable size, so that it just about fills the bottom of the screen? • FFmpeg bitrate issue.

  I'm dealing with a very big issue about bit rate , ffmpeg provide the -b option for the bit rate and for adjustment it provide -minrate and -maxrate, -bufsize but it don't work proper. If i'm giving 256kbps at -b option , when the trans-coding finishes , it provide the 380kbps. How can we achieve the constant bit rate using ffmpeg. If their is +-10Kb it's adjustable. but the video bit rate always exceed by 50-100 kbps. I'm using following command ffmpeg -i "demo.avs" -vcodec libx264 -s 320x240 -aspect 4:3 -r 15 -b 256kb \ -minrate 200kb -maxrate 280kb -bufsize 256kb -acodec libmp3lame -ac 2 \ -ar 22050 -ab 64kb -y "output.mp4" When trans-coding is done, the Media Info show overall bit rate 440kb (it should be 320kb). Is their something wrong in the command. Or i have to use some other parameter? Plz provide your suggestion its very important.

• How can I delete a file created and opened with Perl's IO::File and XML::Writer?

  So I'm running through a list of things and have code that creates an .xml files with IO::File called $doc, then I make a new writer with XML::Writer(OUTPUT => $doc). More code runs and I build a big XML file with XML::Writer. Then, near the end of the file, I find out if I need this file at all. If I do need it, I just: $writer->end(); $doc->close(); but if I don't need it, what should I enter to just delete all data I've stored/saved and move onto the next file? I tried unlink($docpath) (before and after $doc->close()), the file was not deleted.

  I have a big time trying to either convert a string into a integer or multiply two integers. I can't convert the string into integer because it's resulting me into a boolean (when I'm using var_dump). I can convert the other integer in string, but I'm unable to multiply it. • Garbage collection - manually wiping EVERYTHING!

  I have been building a game for a while (nearly done) - But the game needs a replay button and its a big task. I know the GC is dreadful in flash, but I wanted to know if there is a way to wipe EVERYTHING as if the flash app has just begun. Clearing memory, game data - I haven't to worry about game loading as its not really heavy on data. Everything pretty much lives in a DataModel - but I fear if I just clear the all variables, I'll have pockets of orphaned memory. Any forwarding idea would be great. cheers guys.

• How do you deal with duplicate street suffixes?

  I have a system where users need to enter addresses. I am trying to limit duplicates of course and something I started noticing was becoming a big problem was some users putting in "Road" and others "Rd", therefore duplicates were creeping in. I looked up the list of USPS street suffix abbreviations but I still have a question which I can't find an answer to. Can I replace all words in a street address with the USPS standard abbreviation? An example would be "123 Forest Hill Road". If I were to replace it with the abbreviations it would then be "123 Frst Hl Rd" or does the "street suffix" that USPS is referring to mean they only want you to make go as far as "123 Forest Hill Rd"?

• Setting instance names on keyframes quickly in AS3

  Right now in Flash CS3 and up (using Actionscript 3) if you have the same instance that is used in multiple keyframes in a layer, and you decide to assign or change the instance name later, you would have to go to each keyframe and set the instance name. This is a big nuisance. Is there a quicker or better way to do this? NOTE: In AS2, you can set the name by using name property of the MovieClip in your code in the onLoad handler of the MovieClip class so it's done once and for all. Unfortunately in AS3, you are not allowed to set the name property anymore.
