  • Using Git in Enterprise environment

    Git is an excellent version control. If we exclude the fact that, it doesn't have an excellent GUI support, it's really good and fast. But the source controls like Clearcase has large support for enterprise customers. Companies investing huge amount for source control servers and licesense. Of late most of the large companies like Google adopting Git over the other version controls. But the company is having strong open source group which consistently provide development and support for the tool (Even they might be having a custom version of Git of their own). At the same time, large companies are not really bothered about adopting open source projects and make it relevant for them. Is Git really a reliable tool for enterprise environment, especially for Windows Platform? The support is a question for Git as it's an open source version control. Any companies are there to provide solutions and support? How the server costs comparing to other version controls like Clear-case?

  • Need some critique on .NET/WCF SOA architecture plan

    I am working on a refactoring of some services and would appreciate some critique on my general approach. I am working with three back-end data systems and need to expose an authenticated front-end API over http binding, JSON, and REST for internal apps as well as 3rd party integration. I've got a rough idea below that's a hybrid of what I have and where I intend to wind up. I intend to build guidance extensions to support this architecture so that devs can build this out quickly. Here's the current idea for our structure: Front-end WCF routing service (spread across multiple IIS servers via hardware load balancer) Load balancing of services behind routing is handled within routing service, probably round-robin One of the services will be a token Multiple bindings per-service exposed to address JSON, REST, and whatever else comes up later All in/out is handled via POCO DTOs Use unity to scan for what services are available and expose them The front-end services behind the routing service do nothing more than expose the API and do conversion of DTO<-Entity Unity inject service implementation to allow mocking automapper for DTO/Entity conversion Invoke WF services where response required immediately Queue to ESB for async WF -- ESB will invoke WF later Business logic WF layer Expose same api as front-end services Implement business logic Wrap transaction context where needed Call out to composite/atomic services Composite/Atomic Services Exposed as WCF One service per back-end system Standard atomic CRUD operations plus composite operations Supports transaction context The questions I have are: Are the separation of concerns outlined above beneficial? Current thought is each layer below is its own project, except the backend stuff, where each system gets one project. The project has a servicehost and all the services are under a services folder. Interfaces live in a separate project at each layer. DTO and Entities are in two separate projects under a shared folder. I am currently planning to build dedicated services for shared functionality such as logging and overload things like tracelistener to call those services. Is this a valid approach? Any other suggestions/comments?

  • Hardware recommendations for building an Ubuntu encrypted file server

    I would like to build a file server for my home network using Ubuntu. It will serve files from RAID1 configured disks, either in the OS or in hardware. It will be connected to a Gigabit ethernet LAN. The disks will use an encrypted file system. It will serve samba shares. I would like a recommendation on what kind of processing power/memory I would need to build a box that would be able to sustain the full capacity of the Gigabit ethernet connection in a file transfer for a single connection with the overhead of serving from an encrypted disk. I'm not looking to build a dream server, I just want enough processing capacity for high performance (and reliable) file sharing and spend as little as possible for it. This may be tangential, but what kind of hardware would I need to have a server be able to reliably go into a low power mode when no requests are being made of it?

  • eth0 not working on startup

    Hi to all, This might sound strange but, working with my Lubuntu 10.04 i've experienced troubles when connecting to my eth0 newtwork. After some googling, i've found out that by writting in the CLI the following command: mii-tool eth0 -F 10baseT-FD and activating the eth0 in the toolbar (by clicking "activate eth0") everything works just fine. Well, up to now, i did not have any problem, because every time i turned on the computer i had to do this, but it was very little effort.But now, i would like to use the machine as a file server, accesing it by ssh, without monitor or keyboard. So, i won't be able to make this actions, and can't do this at startup because mii-tool needs root permissions. So, the question is: Do you know what does that command do, and how can id make that change permanent? Or do you know any other solution for my problem? I hope i was clear! If not, tell me and i'll try to be as clearer as possible. Thanks in advance!

    Is it possible to create a stand alone deb packages by merging dependancies without manual repacking.?? I've looked at this question but it doesn't really answer what I'm trying to achieve above. if possible how to do it? update 1 No tools available yet(?) So what about creating new deb package containing all packages which will copy dependencies to the cache and executing main package. Is it possible? update 2 Above method appears to be impossible because dpkg cant handle more than one operation at a time. Some scripts may can do it update 3 this tool is very helpful but it currently wont support oneric and above still waiting for more generic tool Thanks in advance

  • HDDs randomly falling off raid

    I really need help on this it's Saturday long weekend.No customer service help:( .I recently build new server/light duty desktop.Main purpose is only file sharing.Raid configuration :Adaptec 6805 ,8x 3TB HDD WD Red,Intel RES2SV240 expander,Raid 6,set in Intel mobo DZ 77GA-70K.I upgraded firmwares, but I'm having strange problem. During Build Verify segment 7 got missing.I just reinsert drive into hot swap bay and it started to rebuild Array.After rebuild was done another segments 0 and 5 gone missing while build/verify.I reinserted drives and now I'm praying that raid is going to rebuild successfully from remaining 6 drives,because i already transfer some data on it(I know it was bad idea).I checked S.M.A.R.T on missing drives , it only says link failure and aborted commands on one of them.No Errors on HDDs.Connections and cables are good.I added 2 fans blowing on RAID controller because it was getting too hot, so I guess overheating shouldn't be issue.What can be possibly wrong? Thank you for help.

  • Should I be concerned about hAtom tags on my blog?

    I am using a theme that automatically adds hatom-entry, hatom-feed classes on my WordPress blog. I read that such tags/classes should be used for syndicated content. Anyway, then I ran a Rich Snippet Tool, which threw a "HAtomfeed" error. So I removed a "hfeed" div tag. Now, should I be concerned? Can this cause any problems? I still have a couple of these classes (listed below), and I just hope they do not effect my site's ranking. For now, these are the tags the Rich Snippet Tool has detected: hatom-feed hatom-entry: entry-title: entry-content: published: author: fn: person-name: url: Appreciate your help!     I'm sort of a beginner with eclipse but I want to update the libraries or build path or whatever to java 1.7 from java 1.6 and I can't figure it out. I'm a computer science student at the university of washington and various TA's and students have tried to figure out this problem but it's stumped them all. I've installed java 1.7 from Oracle a few times already and the java section of system preferences says I have 1.7 but java -version in terminal says: java version "1.6.0_41" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_41-b02-445-11M4107) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.14-b01-445, mixed mode) What's going on here? My mac is totally up to date on everything else

    My company is a broker in the real estate industry. As such, we send a lot of our listings to sites like Trulia.com and Zillow.com, among others. These sites direct leads to our realtors, and provide us with reports every month detailing the activity our listings have had on their site-- links back to our website, emails generated, etc. Our Marketing and Advertising departments want to take that information and enter it into a system to keep track of everything in one place, for the purpose of producing comparison reports. I cannot find any externally available product that provides this functionality. I would sincerely like to avoid writing this tool myself. Does anyone know of a tool that could do this? In short, an ideal system would: Imports Google Analytics data via API Imports real estate listing site data via CSV import / manual entry Provides comparison reports based on data Does anyone know of anything pre-made that can do this?

  • Getting wifi working on 14.04

    I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop. When I plug in the ethernet cable the internet works fine, but I can't see any wireless network in the networking manager. The wifi switch is definitely on on my laptop! It's a Dell XPS M1330.   • MXMLC Ant task results in java.lang.OutOFMemoryError

    I'm making a change to a set of code for a Flex project that I didn't write and was set up to compile using ant tasks. I assume that the codebase was stable at the last checkin but I'm running into memory issues when trying to build a project using MXMLC and ant (see stack trace below). Before, I was just getting an out of memory error. I tried using a different machine and got this more verbose exception (including problems with the image fetcher). I've tried using various versions of the SDK, I've tried replacing the <mxmlc> tag with <exec executable="mxmlc"> with no luck.
