    I found the following code somewhere, but I am not understanding the code properly. ArticleVote.submitVote('no');return false; Is ArticleVote a class and submitVote() a function of that class? Or what does the above code mean? And is there any concept of classes and objects in jQuery or in traditional JavaScript? How to create them? Please share some reference links or code.

The paddle is moving the way it should! The problem is I want a little inclination towards the direction its moving and when it stops moving the angle of inclination should become zero. I tried playing with the angular velocity but I have no real idea how to do this! So Please help!

    for this site: http://yoursdproperty.com/ do you see how there some extra white space all the way at the top? how would i expand that image to get rid of that space? The weird thing is that the flash file that runs the header images has already been changed by me to be the width of the page. Something in the CSS though makes it the old size of 940 wide. please note that im only interested in making adjustments to the css or html, not flash or javascript

    I'm trying to post to a website from a Processing Sketch. (Processing is basically Java running in a fancy environment). I'm using this library : http://libraries.seltar.org/postToWeb/ but I don't know if that makes a difference. You can see from the stack trace below that this is just a wrapper for the Java standard library. Anyway, the important point is that the host "mysite.com" is up and running. I am seeing it from the browser. But when I try to post to it from Java I just get the UnknownHostException appearing. Given that the site is up. What else might this mean?   • Where can I take an online programming aptitude test/exam?

    A potential employer requires me to take an online aptitude test before my interview (in this case the test is for C, from Previsor). Where can I take the same (or similar) test so I have a rough idea on what I should brush up on? I've taken a similar test for C++ previously, so I have some idea of what to expect. I've also been studying my C books thoroughly (especially the required material as described in the PDF), but I feel it would be a good idea to get a feel for the particular test before taking it. I did a quick search on Brainbench, but they don't seem to have a C test, unless I'm mistaken (only C++). Note: I'm happy to pay to take a test if no decent free ones are available.

  • Do you take the pain of learning it or use an out of the box solution?

    Hi all What I'm getting at here is being presented with a control or framework that does 95% of what you want but has its shortcomings when opposed to learning how to do it yourself. To give a good example (ASP.Net) UpdatePanel vs DIY JS/JSON. The UpdatePanel gives you AJAX instantly without doing anything additional, however I've come to learn that its shortcomings are mainly that it's a bit of a hack and performs badly on busy pages and I've found myself having to scrap UpdatePanels in favour of rolling my own JS, and I've now made it a habit to fully investigate any shortcomings in out-of-the-box solutions, as I've been stung by this experience. So I guess what I'm asking is: Is it better to find out how to DIY or is it considered a better approach to try the available solution and risk going a full circle? Obviously I've only targetted a single control, but it is a very attractive control to people learning AJAX - I'm sure there are others out there. Sorry if dupliate. Thanks

  • Possible to use Javascript to get data from other sites?

    Is it possible for a web page using Javascript to get data from another website? In my case I want to get it for calculations and graphing a chart. But I'm not sure if this is possible or not due to security concerns. If it is considered a no no but there is a work around I would appreciate being told the work around. I don't want to have to gather this information on the server side if possible. Any and all help is appreciated.

  • How do I retrieve an automated report and save it to a database?

    I've got a web server that will take scripts in Python, PHP or Perl. I don't know much about any of those languages, but of the three, Python seems the least scary. It has a MySql database set up, and I know enough SQL to manage it and write queries for it. I also have a program that I want to add automated error reporting to. Something goes wrong, it sends a bug report to my server. What I don't know how to do is write a Python script that will sit on the web server and, when my program sends in a bug report, do the following: Receive the bug report. Parse it out into sections. Insert it into the database. Have the server send me an email. From what little I understand, this seems like it shouldn't be too difficult if I only knew what I was doing. Could someone point me to a site that explains the basic principles I'd need to create a script like this?

  • What are best practices for securing the admin section of a website?

    I'd like to know what people consider best practice for securing the Admin sections of websites, specifically from an authentication/access point of view. Of course there are obvious things, such as using SSL and logging all access, but I'm wondering just where above these basic steps people consider the bar to be set. For example: Are you just relying on the same authentication mechanism that you use for normal users? If not, what? Are you running the Admin section in the same 'application domain'?     I'd like to know which Java web application frameworks do provide a "hot reload" capability, i.e. allow to develop applications and have them redeployed on the server "almost instantly" (i.e. in less than a few seconds). I the Java world, Play! has it out of the box, but what I'm looking for is a more exhaustive list. Other examples that I'm aware of include: Nuxeo WebEngine, provided you're using Eclipse and the right plugin, or, in the Python world, Django and Pylons (when using the "--reload" option).

    I am creating a Web Application using JSP, Struts, EJB and Servlets. The Application is a combined CRM and Accounting Package so the Database size is very huge. So, in order to make Execution faster, I want prevent round trips to the Database. For that purpose, what I want to do is create some temporary XML files on the client Machine and use them whenever required. How can I do this, as Javascript do not permits me to do so. Is there any way of doing this? Or, is there any other solution which I can adopt in order to make my application Faster?
