  Are there any known issues with IIS 7.5? I'm getting the following error when I try to browse/start/view any page on the site.   Let's suppose, for an example, that I want to partly clone Gmail's interface with jQuery Ajax and implement periodic auto-saving as well as sending. And in particular, let us suppose that I care about error handling, expecting network and other errors, and instead of just being optimistic I want sensible handling of different errors. If I use the "low-level" feature of $.ajax() then it's clear how to specify an error callback, but the convenience methods of $.get(), $.post(), and .load() do not allow an error callback to be specified. What are the best practices for pessimistic error handling? Is it by registering a .ajaxError() with certain wrapped sets, or an introspection-style global error handler in $.ajaxSetup()? What would the relevant portions of code look like to initiate an autosave so that a "could not autosave" type warning is displayed if an attempted autosave fails, and perhaps a message that is customized to the type of error?   Hi, I need to get the free Google charts working over SSL without any security errors. I am using c# and asp.net. As Google charts does not support SSL by default, I am looking for a robust method of using there charts but ensuring my user doesn't get any security warnings over their browser. One thought was to use a handler to call the charts api and then generate the output my site needs. Similar to Pants are optional blog post. I haven't been able to get this example working at this stage. Any suggestions, or samples are welcome. Thanks

  Hi ! I have a Form that has a panel with some textBoxes and checkBox that is outside the panel. Every time the Form is loaded the checkBox has focus. I have put en event handler when form loads and tried to set focus on first textbox instead having it on the checkbox. this.Activated += new EventHandler(form_Activated); in the method i try to set the focus on the first textbox in the panel private void form_Activated(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (this.parametersPanel.Controls.Count > 0) { this.parametersPanel.Focus(); (this.parametersPanel.Controls[0]).Focus(); } } This does not work, can some1 help me pls?

• Setting Xcode's target to iPhone NOT iPad

  I just upgraded to iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 4. Since doing so, I have not been able to get the app to launch in the iPhone simulator - it keeps launching in the iPad simulator. I have tried option-clicking the drop-down menu in the top left-corner of Xcode and setting 'Active Executable' to iPhone simulator 3.1.3 but it keeps going back to iPad simulator instead. What gives? I have no interest in my app running on the iPad and I don't want to test it in the 2X mode in the simulator. Thanks,

• How do you test your blackberry application on the device?

  This may sound very noobish, but I can't seem to get my app to my blackberry. I was trying to follow the beginning blackberry development book's guide, but maybe I just missed the point somewhere. For remote download, Is it really as simple as drop the COD and JAD files in the same folder on your server then just navigate to the URL with your device's browser? The book says it should prompt a download screen, but all I get is a page full of cryptic characters. My app is a simple slideshow. Uses no signed things and is not MDS enabled. Did I forget something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

• Cannot add table to context - LINQ-To-SQL

  Hey, I'd be happy to give you more info if you need, just ask for it. I have in my database a table of articles, a table of tags and a link table. The article table has values like Id, Subject etc etc, the tags only have Id and Tag. The link has TagId and ArticleId. The problem is that when I drag drop the link-table nothing happens! This all worked before I decided to rename my column in the tables from "ID" to "Id" to correct spelling. Thanks in advance!

  Having problem with encryption. I gave full permissions to all users to RSA folders.   All the security stuff I have worked with in the past in ASP.Net for the most part has been role based. This is easy enough to implement and ASP.Net is geared for this type of security model. However, I am looking for something a little more fine grained than simple role based security. Essentially I want to be able to write code like this: if(SecurityService.CanPerformOperation("SomeUpdateOperation")){ // perform some update logic here } I would also need row level security access like this: if(SecurityService.CanPerformOperation("SomeViewOperation", SomeEntityIdentifier)){ // Allow user to see specific data } Again, fine grained access control. Is there anything like this already built? Some framework that I can drop into ASP.Net and start using, or am I going to have to build this myself?

  I tried drag and drop from the explorer, but no luck with following error: "Folders cannot be dropped or pasted as solution items. Choose an individual document instead." I know we can create each folders/subfolders manually and add each file, but any quick way to do this on visual studio 2005? Updated: Thank you for the reply, but I do not want the folders to be added under any project, It should appear as a separate node inside my solution, like any other project. In this case the show all files does not work, since the solution itself does not have any folder, it is only if we select any project it works. I know we can create each folders/subfolders manually and add each file, but any quick way, because there are few hundreds of files.

  I am upgrading a website written using ASP.NET 1.1 and the logic for the login page includes verifying the credentials, calling FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie() and populating the Session with the user information. I am updating this page to use Login controls and the Membership API and am trying to wrap my head around the concepts that have been changed. Most of the samples I see do not do anything on the login button event handler, so is the logic of setting the cookie abstracted out into the control? Also, how do I check if a user is logged in or not on other pages. Does it still store user information using the Session? How do I check if a user belongs to a particular role or not (Earlier, I would look in the Session object to do something like this) Is the Session a bad way of storing user info? Thanks

  I have an ASP.NET MVC 2 application, which has an Application_Error event handler in global.asax. In this, I'm detecting the case where the Exception type is HttpException and the HTTP code is 404, and redirecting to my own 404-handling page. This works fine on my Cassini development server, but now I'm trying to move it over to my production server which has IIS7. When I request a non-existent URL, IIS7 is showing its own 404 page, and so far as I can tell, my Application_Error method is never called. How do I fix that?

  My goal is to generate a PDF for display in a web page, either as aspx or with a generic handler. (This will link from a Silverlight page, but this is irrelevant to the problem.) The problem is that LocalReport (Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms; Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll) requires full trust, and our hosting server does not allow full trust. I am aware that ReportViewer has a remote mode that will allow it to run with partial trust, but for that I need a report server url which should probably have full trust as well, which does not solve anything. So how do I generate PDFs from WebForms in a partially trusted environment?

• Creating a new record using AJAX in ASP.NET-MVC

  I am having the hardest time wrapping my head around this. I recently asked this question Create/Edit/Save data in a jQuery pop-up for ASP.NET-MVC and Linq2Sql I'm sure that the response is the right way to go, but I just can't figure out how to write the back-end code to make it work. I originally made my site by following the nerddinner tutorial. I have a subcontracts model and a subcontracts controller. On my subcontract entry page, I'd like for there to be a pop-up/dialog box where the user can enter a new company if the company isn't already in the drop-down list. Do I need to create a new company controller? I wouldn't have a company model b/c the company table is linked to my subcontracts table within the subcontracts dbml. Can anyone point me to an example somewhere? Or offer any help.

• Jquery droppable live disabling/enabling

  I have a some draggables in a list of droppables (1 draggable per droppable li). When I move a draggable from one droppable to another free droppable, I want to diable the receiving droppable, and enable the droppable it is leaving from. In firebug the droppable class gets removed – but the functionality of the droppable remains. • Using Add-on SDK to add toolbar buttons? Integrating XUL and Add-on SDK for Firefox Add-ons?

  I have already coded most of a Firefox add-on using the Add-on SDK API. I am now discovering that Add-on SDK might not be powerful enough for my purposes. I need two things: A drop down button in the toolbar next to the location bar. To modify the add-ons manager in firefox It is truly disappointing, but I don't believe either of these is possible with the Add-on SDK. First of all, I understand there is a widget module in the Add-on SDK API. But this only allows me to add a simple icon or label to the awkward add-on bar. What if I need to add a nicer button like the one next to the location bar for Firebug or Greasemonkey? As for modifying the add-ons manager in firefox, I have tried Nickolay Ponomarev's XUL with the Add-on SDK without any success whatsoever. If anyone knows how to get this working and can point me in the right direction that would be extremely helpful (cfx init --template xul doesn't do anything the regular SDK does when I try it)

• SubWebFolder and mutliple bin folders with Website model?

  Hi, I am looking for some advice on how what is the best approach to subweb folders and having mutliple bin folders in the WebSite Project model. For adding new pages at a later stage without recompiling the core files of a website and without building a full fledged Plug-in framework api. I am aware of being able to drop in the compiled dlls into the main bin folder and to just copy over the new page files to a sub folder but I am looking for a more organized file/folder approach. Here is the how it was done with WAP: Moving the Code-Behind Assemblies/DLLs to a different folder than /BIN with ASP.NET 1.1 Multiple /bin folders in ASP.NET I should also mention that I see that I can still do it the old way with the website project model by making the adjustment to the config section mentioned here but I was wondering if that has any side affects. AssemblyBinding in Web Config and XMLNS

• How to "chain" modal dialogs in YUI 2 ?

  I have a modal dialog box presented in Yahoo UI. The user selects a value from dialog "A", and then I want to present another modal dialog box to collect some more data in dialog "B". I have been using the YAHOO.widget.Dialog successfully. The problem seems to be that you can't initiate dialog window "B" from the handler function of dialog "A". So, how can you programmatically launch a second dialog window after the user hits the "OK" button on the first ? (I had tried to create an additional Listener for a field that is updated in dialog "A" to trigger dialog "B" but this doesn't work either.) Thanks..

  Im deriving from a third party control. It is implementing ApplicationCommands.SelectAll. However the behaviour i want is slightly different. there is no virtual method i can override, and when i register a class handler, like so CommandManager.RegisterClassCommandBinding(typeof(MyDerivedControl), new CommandBinding(ApplicationCommands.SelectAll, new ExecutedRoutedEventHandler(OnExecutedSelectAll), new CanExecuteRoutedEventHandler(OnCanExecuteSelectAll))); My methods do not get called. The third party control i am deriving from is marking e.Handled=true; in its command handlers ( i know this cause i have seen the source, but i cant modify it ) What can i do?

• Pass a variable to a Symfony Form

  Hi, I am building a web application using Symfony 1.4 and Doctrine for a school and I want to make a very simple form to add a course to a student. The main problem I have is that in the drop down list I only want to show the courses in which the student is currently not enrolled. I already have a function in the model (in Student.class.php) which returns all the courses in which the student is not enrolled but the problem is I don't know how to pass the student to the configure() of the form. I have tried several options like passing it with the constructor of the form to a global variable or a special set method but none of them have worked. Is there any form to pass the student to the configure() method? Thanks!

  I'm trying to get a visitor's location based on their IP, pretty common stuff. My research so far shows that there's a database from MaxMind that costs $370 + $90/month... not the type of cost I can afford. Then there's a free version called GeoLite City. Anyone used these before? Drop a quick line here please. Why is one free and the answer so expensive. Is the free one usable, is it not as accurate, what's the catch? P.S. Any other suggestions are welcome.

  I have a huge website (containing around 5000+) pages. There is a theme functionality in the website where user can choose different colors for their profile. Now i want to use the ASP.net theme feature and put different CSS (for different colors) in the theme folder and in Global.asax i want check the user theme and render appropriate link element with the css. But my problem is, i am not able to access the Page element for adding the link in the page. Here is my code Dim page As System.Web.UI.Page = TryCast(System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Handler,System.Web.UI.Page) page.StyleSheetTheme = "Black" But when i run this code I get a Null reference error. P.s : My application is very huge so its not possible to have a master page or a base class and inherit it in every page. Please suggest.
