• Distribute pre-compiled python extension module with distutils

  Quick one today: I'm learning the in's and out's of Pythons distutils library, and I would like to include a python extension module (.pyd) with my package. I know of course that the recommended way is to have distutils compile the extension at the time the package is created, but this is a fairly complex extension spanning many source files and referencing several external libs so it's going to take some significant playing to get everything working right. In the meantime I have a known working build of the extension coming out of Visual Studio, and would like to use it in the installer as a temporary solution to allow me to focus on other issues. I can't specify it as a module, however, since those apparently must have an explicit .py extension. How could I indicate in my setup.py that I want to include a pre-compiled extension module? (Python 3.1, if it matters)

• Security behaviour in Adobe Air

  Hi everyone! I am trying to load external SWFs in my Adobe AIR App. The loaded SWF is trying to access an URL to retrieve some informations via XML. When starting the SWF by itself it works fine. When loading the SWF from the File.applicationStorageDirectory i will get an Security-Error because the loaded App is executed in a local-with-filesystem Sandbox appareantly. First Question: Is there a way to change this? That the loaded SWF is running in a network Sandbox? Since that first attempt didn't worked i've moved the SWF to the app:// directory. Now i'll get a Security-Error because there is no policy file on the Server available where the XML data should be retrieved. Second Question: Why is the policy file not necessary when running the SWF by itself, but is necessary when trying to load the data from the application Sandbox? What am i doing wrong? • How does COM registration work in Windows

  I'm an application packager trying to make sense of how the COM registry keys (SelfReg) interrelate to the given .dll in Windows. ProgID's, AppID's, TypeLibs, Extensions & Verbs are all tied around the CLSID right? Do CLSID's always use Prog/App IDs or could you just have a file extension class? Which bits are optional? Some of it seems to be 'like a router' where there's the two interfaces (internal - .dll) and external (the extension etc). How does this all fit? (The SDK documentation doesn't make sense to me) I ask as this is all pivotal to application 'healing' with Windows Installer (which packagers are all 'big' on, but there's no nitty-gritty breakdowns since its a coder-thing really) ---Edit: Am I safe in assuming that for what COM is registered, it must all link back to the CLSID and cannot be a 'dead-end'? Verbs need extensions which need progid's... What about the AppId's, TypeLibs and Interfaces? How do they interrelate?

  Few weeks ago I tried Intellij and I found it really awesome. Now, at my project there's two programmers (including me) using Intellij and few other programmers gonna still be using Eclipse. Since this project is already very large and it gonna be growing a lot, we need to use compatible Code Style and Code Formatting between Intellij and Eclipse. We do not want to have problems when one user edit one file and reformat it before save. With Eclipse "alone" we used to have some exported configuration, and before anybody starts to work, the first step is just to import this configuration. We already tried to use External Code Formatter, but it didn't work on Intellij 9. So, I have a bunch of questions here: 1 - Is there any way to import eclipse formatting configuration on Intellij 9? 2 - Anybody could share their experience managing this kind of situation? Do you guys have any other suggestion to manage this situation?

• Android delivering different Cell IDs (Neighboring Cell Info)

  Hello. Using an Android Dev Phone 2, I'm using the GsmCellLocation.getCid() method to get the Cell ID on my network. When I run the command and get all the CellIDs for the NeighboringCellInfo I get this values: 597195726 597185722 597195718 597110191 597101100 597175726 I'm running this using the SDK 1.6. The problem is that when I run the Engineering Mode on a GSM modem that I have, running a command to obtain the Neighboring Cell IDs, I get this values: 34253 0 34223 34262 34181 0 What is the difference here? In what format is Android delivering the Cell IDs? I tried doing a "cell.getCid() & 0xffff" but now I'm getting the values: 21690 31686 37068 11695 11694 31694 Which are still different from the one that the GSM Modem is delivering with the Engineering Mode. Obviously I tried this on at the same time, same location. I'm trying to get the same Cell IDs that the external GSM modem I using is delivering Please provide any help Thanks in advance!

• Disable selected automated tests at runtime

  Is is posable to disable selected automated tests at runtime? I'm using VSTS and rhino mocks and have some intergation tests that require an external dependancy to be installed (MQ). Not all the developers on my team have this installed. Currently all the tests that require MQ inherit from a base class that checks if MQ is installed and if is not sets the test result to inconclusive. This works as it stops the tests from running, but marks the test run as unsuccseessful and can hide other failures. Any ideas?

Error: Cannot publish because a project failed to build. Have tried everything, new clean project (both windforms and WPF), new temporary key, disabled pre-requisites and played with every publish setting.   In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR, nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

  I'm loading an external script (that creates a new window component) into a panel, which works fine. Now, I want to access the created window from a callback function to register a closed event handler. I've tried the following: panel.load({ scripts: true, url: '/createWindow', callback: function(el, success, response, options) { panel.findByType("window")[0].on("close", function { alert("Closed"); }); } }); However, the panel seems to be empty all the time, the findByType method keeps returning an empty collection. I've tried adding events handlers for events like added to the panel but none of them got fired. So the question is: how do I access the window in the panel to register my close event handler on it?

• Rogue black-box java application not responding to standard input redirect

  I have an external java application (blackbox), which requires authentication. I need to run this application in a batch setting, but it seems to be reading from standard input in some nonstandard way. That is, if I set the calling of the program to redirect STDIN to a file (... <password.txt) or pipe data to it (echo mypasword | ...), it does not recognize the input. As I run it, also, it seems to intercept Cntrl+c and Cntrl+d and Cntrl+z as legitimate password characters, so it must be doing something odd and not just reading from standard in. Any idea what this application could be doing to read in input? I need to be able to send it information programmatically, and I'm stumped for the moment.

• Canonical Link as a Way of Fighting Scrapers?

  Hi, Let's say several external sites are scraping/harvesting your content and posting it as their own. Let's also say that you maintain a single unique/permanent URL for each piece of content, so that content aliasing (on your site) is never an issue. Is there any value from an SEO perspective to including a canonical link in your header anyway, such that when your site is "scraped", the canonical indication is injected into whatever site is stealing your content (assuming they harvest the raw HTML rather than going in through RSS etc.)? I've heard different things about the behavior of cross-site canonical links, from "they're ignored" to "behavior undefined" to "it can't hurt" to "sure that's exactly what canonical is intended for". My impression was that canonical was a good way of dealing with intra-site but not necessarily inter-site aliasing. Thanks~

  How do I add errors to the top of a form after I cleaned the data? I have an object that needs to make a REST call to an external app (google maps) as a pre-save condition, and this can fail, which means I need my users to correct the data in the form.   I have a managed class library (say mylib.dll) and a 3rd party managed app (say app.exe) which is using mylib.dll. I have the code of mylib.dll but not of the app.exe. So currently what i do is i build mylib.dll, copy it to app.exe's directory, start app.exe and attach to the process. That way if i put breakpoints in code mylib.dll , i see them being hit. But is there anyway to automatically break in code of mylib.dll whenever any external application calls one of its exposed methods ? ie. Only for entrypoints of the dll. thanks, Mishal

• Can't debug code using VS 2010 beta 2

  This is really strange and I can't seem to figure out why it won't work. I have a C# dll that is a add on for another program, the main program is not mine or a .Net app so I am starting it with Start external program in the debugging tab and and passing my program as a command line and the program starts and loads my add on however my Visual Studio debugger doesn't step into the debugger and won't hit my break points. I checked the module window and it's not even loaded in there, I used process explorer and had a look at main program and my dll was loaded into the main app. The project is set to debug, symbols to full and still nothing. I created the project in VS 2008 and it worked fine and am now trying to get this to work in VS 2010 and no go. Anyone know what could be causing this?

The generated classes now follow the Java casing convention used in the web service, for example class names are camelCase rather than PascalCase. Is there a way to get the desired casing from the service reference? CLARIFICATION: With WSE based services, one could modify the generated Reference.cs to provide .NET standard casing and use XmlElementAttribute to map to the Java naming presented by the external web service, like this: [System.Xml.Serialization.XmlElementAttribute("resultType", Form=System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaForm.Unqualified)] [System.Runtime.Serialization.DataMember] public virtual MyResultType ResultType { ... } Not terribly maintenance-friendly without writing custom code to either generate the proxy code or modify it after it's been generated. What I'm after is one or more options to present a WCF generated client proxy to calling applications using the .NET casing conventions, achieving the same as I did previously with WSE.   We have a Web Role that we are hosting in Windows Azure that uses an old ASMX based Web Reference to contact an external system. The Web Reference proxy code is big enough that instantiating it the first time has a significant cost. We'd like to be able to have this run when the Web Role starts instead of on the first request.   I'm creating interface to an external web service with C# client generated from WSDL. And in this client class I have methods with signature like: public ResponseType InvokeMethod(RequestType request). I want to change its access modifier to protected, but then web service responds with "web service method name is not valid" exception. Do You know why is that so? I understand that maintaining method name can be important for some reasons, but why can't I change this access modifier?   I'm deciding between go for a NON-SQL engine or a regular SQL one for a document managment system for small bussines. I have experience with firebird/sql server and found a good track of reliability (specially with firebird). This market is full of crappy "servers" (clon-made PC, the mayority), cheap harddisk, rarely use of RAID or anything like that, some are in locations where a power-off is normal, some not have a UPS, etc... (I will include off-site auto-backup to external servers, but that no change the internal setup). (I know about end-user education about such proper setups, but is stupid depend on that, so stick to te point) From the desing point of view, a schema-less database is the way to go for my system, but, I worry if any of the actual solutions (MongoDb, Tokyo Cabinet, etc) are like firebird and survice crash, malfunctions & abuse so data corruption is very rare. The plan is store the office documents there & provide a central repository.

It has a few different modes, each of which require an external process to be launched, during which the icon is simply highlighted, and appears to be frozen. I want to use the -setImage method (or reasonable facsimile) to display something along the lines of a "spinner" commonly seen in web applications and all over OS X. Is there any native method for accomplishing this (e.g. some instance of NSProgressIndicator?) or must I manually display an animation by cycling through a set of images? In either case, how would I implement?

  I've got an old Juniper SSG5 running ScreenOS 5.4.0r6.0. Once a day, more or less, it'll start randomly dropping packets at a rate of ~5-10%. We currently solve this issue by simply rebooting the unit, after which it resumes working in perfect condition. As this error has started appearing randomly, without any configuration or hardware changes, I'm assuming I've got an aging unit about to fail. As such, I've got a replacement SSG5 running ScreenOS 6.0. I've dumped the config on the 5.4 and imported it into a clean 6.0, and it seems to gladly accept it, and all my configuration seems to be A-OK. However, upon connecting the new unit, all outside-initiated connections seem to be blocked. If I browse our external IP from the inside, everything works perfectly, and it's not just port 80, SSH, Crashplan - all of our policies route correctly. All normal networking, initiated from the inside, work perfectly as well. If on the other hand I browse our external IP from the outside, everything is blocked. Barring differences between ScreenOS 5.4 and 6.0, the config is identical.
