  • Java: Reading a pdf file from URL into Byte array/ByteBuffer in an applet.

    - by Pol
    I'm trying to figure out why this particular snippet of code isn't working for me. I've got an applet which is supposed to read a .pdf and display it with a pdf-renderer library, but for some reason when I read in the .pdf files which sit on my server, they end up as being corrupt. I've tested it by writing the files back out again. I've tried viewing the applet in both IE and Firefox and the corrupt files occur. Funny thing is, when I trying viewing the applet in Safari (for Windows), the file is actually fine! I understand the JVM might be different, but I am still lost. I've compiled in Java 1.5. JVMs are 1.6. The snippet which reads the file is below. public static ByteBuffer getAsByteArray(URL url) throws IOException { ByteArrayOutputStream tmpOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); URLConnection connection = url.openConnection(); int contentLength = connection.getContentLength(); InputStream in = url.openStream(); byte[] buf = new byte[512]; int len; while (true) { len = in.read(buf); if (len == -1) { break; } tmpOut.write(buf, 0, len); } tmpOut.close(); ByteBuffer bb = ByteBuffer.wrap(tmpOut.toByteArray(), 0, tmpOut.size()); //Lines below used to test if file is corrupt //FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("C:\\abc.pdf"); //fos.write(tmpOut.toByteArray()); return bb; } I must be missing something, and I've been banging my head trying to figure it out. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Edit: To further clarify my situation, the difference in the file before I read then with the snippet and after, is that the ones I output after reading are significantly smaller than they originally are. When opening them, they are not recognized as .pdf files. There are no exceptions being thrown that I ignore, and I have tried flushing to no avail. This snippet works in Safari, meaning the files are read in it's entirety, with no difference in size, and can be opened with any .pdf reader. In IE and Firefox, the files always end up being corrupted, consistently the same smaller size. I monitored the len variable (when reading a 59kb file), hoping to see how many bytes get read in at each loop. In IE and Firefox, at 18kb, the in.read(buf) returns a -1 as if the file has ended. Safari does not do this. I'll keep at it, and I appreciate all the suggestions so far.

  • How to deserialize null array to null in c#?

    - by Aen Sidhe
    Here is my class: public class Command { [XmlArray(IsNullable = true)] public List<Parameter> To { get; set; } } When I serialize an object of this class: var s = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Command)); s.Serialize(Console.Out, new Command()); it prints as expected (xml header and default MS namespaces are omitted): <Command><To xsi:nil="true" /></Command> When I took this xml and tried to deserialize it I got stucked, because it always print "Not null": var t = s.Deserialize(...); if (t.To == null) Console.WriteLine("Null"); else Console.WriteLine("Not null"); How to force deserializer to make my list null, if it is null in xml?

  • Sending jQuery.ajax data simultaneous to a form submit

    - by dscher
    I have a bit of a conundrum. I have a form which has numerous fields. There is one field for links where you enter a link, click an add button, and the link(using jQuery) gets added to a link_array. I want this array to be sent via the jQuery.ajax method when the form is submitted. If I send the link_array using $.ajax like this: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "add_stock", dataType: "json", data: { "links": link_array } }); when the add link button is selected the data goes no problem to the correct place and gets put in the db correctly. If I bind the above function to the submit form button using $(#stock_form).submit(..... then the rest of the form data is sent but not the link_array. I can obviously pass the link array back into a hidden field in HTML but then I'd have to unpack the array into comma separate values and break the comma-separated string apart in PHP. It just seems 100X easier to unpack the Javascript array in PHP without an other fuss. So, how is it that you can send an array from javascript using $.ajax concurrent to the rest of the $_POST data in HTML? Please note that I'm using Kohana 3.0 framework but really that shouldn't make a difference, what I want to do is add this js array to the $_POST array that is already going. Thanks!

  • Why does my IMultiBindingConverter get an array of strings when used to set TextBox.Text?

    - by mcohen75
    Hi- I'm trying to use a MultiBinding with a converter where the child elements also have a converter. The XAML looks like so: <TextBlock> <TextBlock.Text> <MultiBinding Converter="{StaticResource localizedMessageConverter}" ConverterParameter="{x:Static res:Resources.RecordsFound}" > <Binding Converter="{StaticResource localizedMessageParameterConverter}" ConverterParameter="ALIAS" Path="Alias" Mode="OneWay" /> <Binding Converter="{StaticResource localizedMessageParameterConverter}" ConverterParameter="COUNT" Path="Count" Mode="OneWay" /> </MultiBinding> </TextBlock.Text> The problem I'm facing here is, whenever this is used with a TextBlock to specify the Text property, my IMultiValueConverter implementation gets an object collection of strings instead of the class returned by the IValueConverter. It seems that the ToString() method is called on the result of the inner converter and passed to the IMultiValueConverter. If used to specify the Content property of Label, all is well. It seems to me that the framework is assuming that the return type will be string, but why? I can see this for the MultiBinding since it should yield a result that is compatible with TextBlock.Text, but why would this also be the case for the Bindings inside a MultiBinding? If I remove the converter from the inner Binding elements, the native types are returned. In my case string and int.

  • CakePHP - hasMany not fetching?

    - by Paolo Bergantino
    Maybe I am just having a slow day, but for the life of me I can't figure out why this is happening. I haven't done CakePHP in a while and I am trying to use the 1.3 version, but this doesn't seem to be working... I have two models: area.php <?php class Area extends AppModel { var $name = 'Area'; var $useTable = 'OR_AREA'; var $primaryKey = 'A_ID'; var $belongsTo = array( 'Building' => array( 'className' => 'Building', 'foreignKey' => 'FK_B_ID', ), 'Facility' => array( 'className' => 'Facility', 'foreignKey' => 'FK_F_ID', ), 'System' => array( 'className' => 'System', 'foreignKey' => 'FK_S_ID', ) ); } ?> building.php <?php class Building extends AppModel { var $name = 'Building'; var $useTable = 'OR_BLDG'; var $primaryKey = 'B_ID'; var $hasMany = array( 'Area' => array( 'className' => 'Area', 'foreignKey' => 'FK_B_ID', ) ); } ?> OR_AREA has a column titled FK_B_ID that refers to the B_ID. If I run something like: $this->Building->find('all', array('recursive' => 2)); I get empty [Area] arrays for all the Buildings even though there are plenty of Areas in the OR_AREA table that are associated to buildings. Not only that, the Query Table doesn't even show CakePHP attempted to find anything but all the records in OR_BLDG. All the more puzzling, if I do: $this->Area->find('all'); I get all the Areas and the [Building] arrays are populated when appropriate. What am I missing?

  • Why aren't my objects sorting with sortedArrayUsingDescriptors?

    - by clozach
    I expected the code below to return the objects in imageSet as a sorted array. Instead, there's no difference in the ordering before and after. NSSortDescriptor *descriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"imageID" ascending:YES]; NSSet *imageSet = collection.images; for (CBImage *image in imageSet) { NSLog(@"imageID in Set: %@",image.imageID); } NSArray *imageArray = [[imageSet allObjects] sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:(descriptor, nil)]; [descriptor release]; for (CBImage *image in imageArray) { NSLog(@"imageID in Array: %@",image.imageID); } Fwiw, CBImage is defined in my core data model. I don't know why sorting on managed objects would work any differently than on "regular" objects, but maybe it matters. As proof that @"imageID" should work as the key for the descriptor, here's what the two log loops above output for one of the sets I'm iterating through: 2010-05-05 00:49:52.876 Cover Browser[38678:207] imageID in Array: 360339 2010-05-05 00:49:52.876 Cover Browser[38678:207] imageID in Array: 360337 2010-05-05 00:49:52.877 Cover Browser[38678:207] imageID in Array: 360338 2010-05-05 00:49:52.878 Cover Browser[38678:207] imageID in Array: 360336 2010-05-05 00:49:52.879 Cover Browser[38678:207] imageID in Array: 360335 ... For extra credit, I'd love to get a general solution to troubleshooting NSSortDescriptor troubles (esp. if it also applies to troubleshooting NSPredicate). The functionality of these things seems totally opaque to me and consequently debugging takes forever.

  • Parse Facebook API data using loop for getting fan page ID#s?

    - by Brandon Lee
    I've been learning how to parse json data returned from the facebook-api. I've figured out how to fetch fan pages from a specific profile id and want to parse them using a loop! Heres the code and example I have below: This is the data I get back from the facebook-api Array ( [0] => Array ( [page_id] => XXXXXX60828 ) [1] => Array ( [page_id] => XXXXXX0750 ) [2] => Array ( [page_id] => XXXXXX91225 ) [3] => Array ( [page_id] => XXXXXX1960343 ) [4] => Array ( [page_id] => XXXXXX60863 ) [5] => Array ( [page_id] => XXXXXX8582 ) ) I need to be able to put this data in a loop and extract the page_id#s out... still getting familiar with json and am having issues figuring this out? How can I get this in a loop using for each and strip out the page id#s?

    I'm writing a code which performs a k-means clustering on a set of data. I'm actually using the code from a book called collective intelligence by O'Reilly. • Optimizing processing and management of large Java data arrays

    - by mikera
    I'm writing some pretty CPU-intensive, concurrent numerical code that will process large amounts of data stored in Java arrays (e.g. lots of double[100000]s). Some of the algorithms might run millions of times over several days so getting maximum steady-state performance is a high priority. In essence, each algorithm is a Java object that has an method API something like: public double[] runMyAlgorithm(double[] inputData); or alternatively a reference could be passed to the array to store the output data: public runMyAlgorithm(double[] inputData, double[] outputData); Given this requirement, I'm trying to determine the optimal strategy for allocating / managing array space. Frequently the algorithms will need large amounts of temporary storage space. They will also take large arrays as input and create large arrays as output. Among the options I am considering are: Always allocate new arrays as local variables whenever they are needed (e.g. new double[100000]). Probably the simplest approach, but will produce a lot of garbage. Pre-allocate temporary arrays and store them as final fields in the algorithm object - big downside would be that this would mean that only one thread could run the algorithm at any one time. Keep pre-allocated temporary arrays in ThreadLocal storage, so that a thread can use a fixed amount of temporary array space whenever it needs it. ThreadLocal would be required since multiple threads will be running the same algorithm simultaneously. Pass around lots of arrays as parameters (including the temporary arrays for the algorithm to use). Not good since it will make the algorithm API extremely ugly if the caller has to be responsible for providing temporary array space.... Allocate extremely large arrays (e.g. double[10000000]) but also provide the algorithm with offsets into the array so that different threads will use a different area of the array independently. Will obviously require some code to manage the offsets and allocation of the array ranges. Any thoughts on which approach would be best (and why)?

    I would like to implement an observer pattern in Objective-C where the observer implements an interface similar to SKPaymentTransactionObserver and the observable class just extends my base observable. My observable class looks something like what is below. Notice I'm making copies of the observers before enumeration to avoid throwing an exception . I've tried adding an NSLock around add observers and notify observers, but I run into a deadlock. What would be the proper way to handle concurrency when observers are being added as notifications are being sent? @implementation Observable -(void)notifyObservers:(SEL)selector { @synchronized(self) { NSSet* observer_copy = [observers copy]; for (id observer in observer_copy) { if([observer respondsToSelector: selector]) { [observer performSelector: selector]; } } [observer_copy release]; } } -(void)notifyObservers:(SEL)selector withObject:(id)arg1 withObject:(id)arg2 { @synchronized(self) { NSSet* observer_copy = [observers copy]; for (id observer in observer_copy) { if([observer respondsToSelector: selector]) { [observer performSelector: selector withObject: arg1 withObject: arg2]; } } [observer_copy release]; } } -(void)addObserver:(id)observer { @synchronized(self) { [observers addObject: observer]; } } -(void)removeObserver:(id)observer { @synchronized(self) { [observers removeObject: observer]; } }

  • Why might RvdProxy.getServices() incorrectly return an empty Array?

    - by butterchicken
    The following code snippet attempts to create a Tib DaemonManager connecting to a particular rvd, and then query for that rvd's services. public static void main(String[] args) throws RuntimeException { DaemonManager daemonManager = new DaemonManager("http://foo.com:7580"); if(daemonManager.getDaemonType() == DaemonManager.RVD) { DaemonProxy daemonProxy = daemonManager.getDaemonProxy(); final RvdProxy rvdProxy = (RvdProxy) daemonProxy; Service[] services = rvdProxy.getServices(); System.out.println(services.length); //prints 0 for (Service service : services) { System.out.println(service.getNetwork()); } } } This prints zero, even though the web interface for this rvd lists multiple available services. Why might this happen? The daemon I am connecting to is running v 7.5.1 of the software, and the rvconfig.jar that I am using is from v 7.5.1 as well. Is there a gotcha when using Tibco's DaemonManager that is causing me to come unstuck?

Here is my array: $menu = array( 'Home', 'Stuff'=>array( 'Losta Stuff', 'Less Stuff', 'Ur moms stuff', 'FAQ' ), 'Public Works' ); Here is my logic: echo "<ol>\n"; foreach( (array)$menu as $header ) { echo ' <li><b>'.$header."</b><br />\n"; echo ' <ol>'; foreach( (array)$header as $headers ) { echo ' <li>'.$headers.".</li>\n"; } echo ' </ol>'; } echo "</ol>\n"; As you can see, Home and Public Works don't have data in the them, so I get a Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in test.php on line ## If I add (array) to $header like this: foreach( (array)$header as $headers ), It no longer gives me the error, but it just displays the $header as the $headers (i.e. Home - Home, Instead of Home - nothing). Basically, if the data is empty, I want it to do nothing!

Amongst other things, I get the size of the buffer. So it is already available in the object file. How do I access the size of the buffer in my assembly file at compile time?

  • Do I really need bindParam?

    - by sandelius
    Hi there! I'm trying to do a little PDO CRUD to learn some PDO. I have a question about bindParam. Here's my update method right now: public static function update($conditions = array(), $data = array(), $table = '') { self::instance(); // Late static bindings (PHP 5.3) $table = ($table === '') ? self::table() : $table; // Check which data array we want to use $values = (empty($data)) ? self::$_fields : $data; $sql = "UPDATE $table SET "; foreach ($values as $f => $v) { $sql .= "$f = ?, "; } // let's build the conditions self::build_conditions($conditions); // fix our WHERE, AND, OR, LIKE conditions $extra = self::$condition_string; // querystring $sql = rtrim($sql, ', ') . $extra; // let's merge the arrays into on $v_val = array_values($values); $c_val = array_values($conditions); $array = array_merge($v_val, self::$condition_array); $stmt = self::$db->prepare($sql); return $stmt->execute($array); } in my "self::$condition_array" I get all the right values from the ?. SO the query looks like this: UPDATE table SET this = ?, another = ? WHERE title = ? AND time = ? as you can see I dont use bindParams instead I pass the right values in the right order ($array) directly into the execute($array) method. This works like a charm BUT is it safe not use use bindParam here? If not then how can I do it? Thanks from Sweden Tobias

    For example, if I have the following (data from Project Euler): s = [[75], [95, 64], [17, 47, 82], [18, 35, 87, 10], [20, 4, 82, 47, 65], [19, 1, 23, 75, 3, 34], [88, 2, 77, 73, 7, 63, 67], [99, 65, 4, 28, 6, 16, 70, 92], [41, 41, 26, 56, 83, 40, 80, 70, 33], [41, 48, 72, 33, 47, 32, 37, 16, 94, 29], [53, 71, 44, 65, 25, 43, 91, 52, 97, 51, 14], [70, 11, 33, 28, 77, 73, 17, 78, 39, 68, 17, 57], [91, 71, 52, 38, 17, 14, 91, 43, 58, 50, 27, 29, 48], [63, 66, 4, 68,89, 53, 67, 30, 73, 16, 69, 87, 40, 31], [4, 62, 98, 27, 23, 9, 70, 98, 73, 93, 38, 53, 60, 4, 23]] Why does s[1:][:-1] give me the same thing as s[1:] instead of (what I want) [s[i][:-1] for i in range(1,len(s))]. In other words, why does Python ignore my second index?
