  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - IIS7.5 - Web site permissions

    - by dmckenna
Why when I remove the MACHINENAME\Users group permission set from a websites physical folder and and grant a similar permission set to MACHINENAME\IIS_IUSRS group my website will not start. Why do I have to grant Read & Execute, List folder contents and Read to the MACHINENAME\Users group physical website folder?

  • Can't manage iPod from linux anymore

    - by kemp
I used to be able to see and manage my iPod with different softwares: Amarok, Rhythmbox, GTKPod. The device is a nano 1st generation 4gb. Currently it mounts regularly and can be accessed from the file system, but I get this in dmesg: [ 1547.617891] scsi 11:0:0:0: Direct-Access Apple iPod 1.62 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 [ 1547.619103] sd 11:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 [ 1547.620478] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Adjusting the sector count from its reported value: 7999488 [ 1547.620494] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] 7999487 512-byte hardware sectors: (4.09 GB/3.81 GiB) [ 1547.621718] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off [ 1547.621726] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 68 00 00 08 [ 1547.621732] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 1547.623591] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Adjusting the sector count from its reported value: 7999488 [ 1547.624993] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 1547.625003] sdb: sdb1 sdb2 [ 1547.629686] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk [ 1548.084026] FAT: utf8 is not a recommended IO charset for FAT filesystems, filesystem will be case sensitive! [ 1610.092886] usb 2-6: USB disconnect, address 9 The only application that can access it (partially) is Rhythmbox. I say partially because I can transfer files to the iPod but can't remove or modify them. Also one transfer didn't finish and only 9 out of 16 songs were delivered to the device. All other softwares I tried (GTKPod, Amarok, Songbird) don't even detect it. What can I do to troubleshoot this? EDIT: # fdisk -l /dev/sdb Disk /dev/sdb: 4095 MB, 4095737344 bytes 241 heads, 62 sectors/track, 535 cylinders Units = cylinders of 14942 * 512 = 7650304 bytes Disk identifier: 0x20202020 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 11 80293+ 0 Empty Partition 1 has different physical/logical beginnings (non-Linux?): phys=(0, 1, 1) logical=(0, 1, 2) Partition 1 has different physical/logical endings: phys=(9, 254, 63) logical=(10, 181, 8) Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/sdb2 11 536 3919415+ b W95 FAT32 Partition 2 has different physical/logical beginnings (non-Linux?): phys=(10, 0, 7) logical=(10, 181, 15) Partition 2 has different physical/logical endings: phys=(497, 240, 62) logical=(535, 88, 61) EDIT2: The "before" state is hard to tell, it was a lot of updates ago. Haven't been using my iPod for a while so I can't say when exactly it stopped working. I'm sure Amarok was still at version 1.X but can't remember when it was. My current system is debian testing fully updated. NOTE: just noticed that if I mount the device manually instead of letting nautilus automount it, I can see it again on GTKPod but still not on Banshee AND it's vanished from Rhythmbox...

  • Use synergy with KVM

    - by Mr. Man
I am using synergy on a Linux Mint server with a Mac as the client. I also have a physical KVM switch. The problem I have is that when ever I switch the physical KVM to my Mac, synergy stops working as in the keyboard and mouse don't work with the Mac. Thanks in advance!

  • Cisco VPN Client Behind ASA 5505

    - by fdf33
I'm trying to get connected to another ASA via Cisco VPN Client. I am behind an ASA 5505 myself and I am tryihng to VPN to a 5510. I get the message: Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client. Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding. I can connect to the other ASA if I use a normal cheap Linksys. Here's the version of my ASA: Result of the command: "sh ver" Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 8.4(1) Any help would be great. • Conditional dev|nfs mount in Linux

    - by o_O Tync
I have a mount point — let it be /media/question — and two possible devices: a physical HDD and a remote NFS folder. Sometimes I plug the device in physically, in other cases I mount it via NFS. Is there a way to specify both of them in fstab so that executing mount /media/question will preferably choose physical volume, and when it's not available — NFS?

  • Is there a way to display multiple power point documents in separate power point windows?

    - by Chris Reynolds
In Microsoft PowerPoint 2007, when opening multiple .pptx/.ppt documents simultaneously, the documents are opened in the same physical PowerPoint window. I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to separate these documents into separate physical windows. I am aware that you can arrange and cascade separate documents within the same PowerPoint window, but I find that method a bit awkward and frustrating (especially when juggling more than two documents simultaneously).

  • Volume group disappeared, LVs still available

    - by Ben
I've run into an issue with my KVM host which runs VMs on a LVM volume. As of last night the logical volumes are no longer seen as such (I can't create snapshots of them even though I have been for months now). Running any scans all result in nothing being found: [root@apollo ~]# pvscan No matching physical volumes found [root@apollo ~]# vgscan Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... No volume groups found root@apollo ~]# lvscan No volume groups found If I try restoring the VG conf backup from /etc/lvm/backups/vg0 I get the following error: [root@apollo ~]# vgcfgrestore -f /etc/lvm/backup/vg0 vg0 Couldn't find device with uuid 20zG25-H8MU-UQPf-u0hD-NftW-ngsC-mG63dt. • Slow ASP.NET site using IIS6

    - by lars
Hi, I have two servers, one virtual and one physical, running the exact same site on both machines. Both machines are running on ~ 2% CPU load and very much RAM available for usage. Somehow the site, with cache turned off ofcourse, loads in ~ 500ms on the virtual machine (which is a dev-server by the way) but almost 3 full seconds on the physical machine. They're both running Server 2003, IIS6 aswell as asp.net version 2.0 Any ideas where I can start troubleshoot this? Best Regards LP

  • Why is it possible to deploy a hypervisor within a hypervisor?

    - by blade3
Hi, Why is that a hypervisor, which alledgedly needs to be on physical hardware, can be deployed within a VM? For example, XenServer (the actual hypervisor) can be deployed in an ESX VM? Why is this possible (Although not a good idea for many reasons, but still works). Also, why do people say a hypervisor needs physical hardware (from an architectural point of view, rather than obvious performance reasons). Thanks

  • Blade Enclosure, Multiple Blade Servers, Whats the closest approximation to a DMZ?

    - by codeulike
I appreciate that to get a proper DMZ, one should have a physical separation between the DMZ servers and the LAN servers, with a firewall server in between. But, in a network consisting of a single Blade Enclosure containing two or more Blade servers, whats the closest approximation to a DMZ that could be designed? More details: Virtual servers, mostly Windows, running in a VMWare environment on the Blade servers, and physical firewall box between the Blade enclosure and the internet.

  • Ubuntu hardware wireless switch has no effect after suspend and 13.10 upgrade

    - by blaineh
I'm posting this on SU after it stalled on askubuntu. I hope someone here can help! If you'd prefer to answer on AU itself, here's the link: http://askubuntu.com/questions/365177/hardware-wireless-switch-has-no-effect-after-suspend-and-13-10-upgrade Wireless works fine after a reboot, but after a suspend the hardware switch (for my laptop this is f12) has no effect on the wireless, it is just permanently off, and shows that it is with a red LED. My rfkill list all reads: 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes 1: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes Any combination with rfkill <un>block wifi doesn't work, although one time first blocking then unblocking actually turned it on again. sudo lshw -C network reads: *-network DISABLED description: Wireless interface product: AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) vendor: Qualcomm Atheros physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0 logical name: wlan0 version: 01 serial: 78:e4:00:65:2e:3f width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=ath9k driverversion=3.11.0-12-generic firmware=N/A latency=0 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bgn resources: irq:17 memory:90100000-9010ffff *-network DISABLED description: Ethernet interface product: RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0 logical name: eth0 version: 02 serial: c8:0a:a9:89:b4:30 size: 10Mbit/s capacity: 100Mbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress msix vpd bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 driverversion=2.3LK-NAPI duplex=half latency=0 link=no multicast=yes port=MII speed=10Mbit/s resources: irq:42 ioport:2000(size=256) memory:90010000-90010fff memory:90000000-9000ffff memory:90020000-9002ffff Also, adding a /etc/pm/sleep.d/brcm.sh file as recommended here simply prevents the laptop from suspending at all, which of course is no good. This question has an answer urging to install the original driver, but it wasn't an "accepted answer" so I'd rather not take a chance on it. Also I'll admit I'm a bit lost on that and would like help doing so with the specific information I've given. I would be happy to provide more information, so long as you're willing to help me find it for you! This is a very annoying bug. I have a Compaq Presario CQ62. Edit. This morning, I had had the laptop suspended all night, and then when I tried to awake it, it simply wouldn't. It would try, and then it would sleep again (I guess it felt a little bit like me! </badjoke>). Is it possible these problems are related? Edit. I don't have enough reputation on SU proper to post links to pastebins and other questions I've tried, so I'm putting them in comments, and of course they're available in the original question.

  • How does virtualization improve server utilization?

    - by Continuation
The biggest benefit of virtualization is usually said to be improved server utilization. But why do I need virtualization for that? Say I got N physical servers that are lightly used. Why don't I just combine all the apps on those N servers into 1 physical server? This way I don't incur the performance penalty of virtualization. What does virtualization buy me in this case?

  • Conditional `mount` in Linux: dev or nfs

    - by o_O Tync
I have a mount point — let it be /media/question — and two possible devices: a physical HDD and a remote NFS folder. Sometimes I plug the device in physically, in other cases I mount it via NFS. Is there a way to specify both of them in fstab so that executing mount /media/question will preferably choose physical volume, and when it's not available — NFS?

  • Can only bring up one of two interfaces

    - by mstaessen
I'm having a bizarre issue with my HP Proliant DL 360 G4p server. It has two gigabit ethernet interfaces but I can bring up only one of them. This is starting to freak me out and that's why I turned here. I'm running the x64 ubuntu 11.10 server edition. lshw -c network shows that the second interface is disabled. I have no idea why ans how to enable it. $ sudo lshw -c network *-network:0 description: Ethernet interface product: NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@0000:02:02.0 logical name: eth0 version: 10 serial: 00:18:71:e3:6d:26 size: 100Mbit/s capacity: 1Gbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: pcix pm vpd msi bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt 1000bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=tg3 driverversion=3.119 duplex=full firmware=5704-v3.27b, ASFIPMIc v2.36 ip=10.48.8.x latency=64 link=yes mingnt=64 multicast=yes port=twisted pair speed=100Mbit/s resources: irq:25 memory:fdf70000-fdf7ffff *-network:1 DISABLED description: Ethernet interface product: NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit Ethernet vendor: Broadcom Corporation physical id: 2.1 bus info: pci@0000:02:02.1 logical name: eth1 version: 10 serial: 00:18:71:e3:6d:25 capacity: 1Gbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 66MHz capabilities: pcix pm vpd msi bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd 1000bt 1000bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=tg3 driverversion=3.119 firmware=5704-v3.27b latency=64 link=no mingnt=64 multicast=yes port=twisted pair resources: irq:26 memory:fdf60000-fdf6ffff If I try to ifup eth1, then I get $ sudo ifup eth1 Ignoring unknown interface eth1=eth1. I figured that's what happens when there is no eth1 listed in /etc/network/interfaces. But when I add the configuration for eth1, I still can't ifup. $ sudo ifup eth1 RTNETLINK answers: File exists Failed to bring up eth1. I've also tried ifconfig eth1 up but without any result. For clarity, I have added a masked version of /etc/network/interfaces. I don't think it is the cause of the problem though. $ cat /etc/network/interfaces # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. I'm trying to add a second SSD to a Centos 6 system. But I get the Error 5 partition table invalid or corrupt at boot. • Duplication of Architecture State means physically extra?

    - by Doopy Doo
Hyper-Threading Technology makes a single physical processor appear as two logical processors; the physical execution resources are shared and the architecture state is duplicated for the two logical processors. So, this means that there are two sets of basic registers such as Next Instruction Pointer, processor registers like AX, BX, CX etc physically embedded in the micro-processor chip, OR they(arch. state) are made to look two sets by some low level duplication by software/OS.

  • Increase in Available Memory expected by adding 1Gb RAM to a 3Gb Vista 32 bit system

    - by Bob423
I understand the 32 bit Vista limit in addressing only 4Gb of memory space but I have a very specific question: I have 3Gb installed on a Vista 32 bit system with a 512Mb video card, MSI X-58 board, Intel i7, 920 CPU. System Information currently shows: Installed Memory: 3.00Gb Available Physical Memory: 1.73 Gb My understanding is that the 512Mb video card occupies memory addresses between 4.0Gb and 3.5Gb and so does not subtract from the 3.0Gb of physical memory (correct my understanding if wrong) My Question: If I install another 1Gb of RAM, will my Available Memory increase to 2.73Gb? Thanks, Bob423

  • How can I transfer a SQL Server 2005 license?

    - by jdk
I have the a wrong license number in one SQL Server. What's gone down is this: We virtualized a physical server, effectively cloning its software and licenses - SQL Server included. We want to repurpose the physical machine by keeping SQL Server and modifying its license to another license key that we have purchased. Would prefer not to reinstall SQL Server. Can it be done?

  • Configuring WCF to Handle a Signature on a SOAP Message from an Oracle Server

    - by AlEl
    I'm trying to use WCF to consume a web service provided by a third-party's Oracle Application Server. I pass a username and password and as part of the response the web service returns a standard security tag in the header which includes a digest and signature. With my current setup, I successfully send a request to the server and the web service sends the expected response data back. However, when parsing the response WCF throws a MessageSecurityException, with an InnerException.Message of "Supporting token signatures not expected." My guess is that WCF wants me to configure it to handle the signature and verify it. I have a certificate from the third party that hosts the web service that I should be able to use to verify the signature. It's in the form of -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- [certificate garble] -----END CERTIFICATE----- Here's a sample header from a response that makes WCF throw the exception: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"> <soap:Header> <wsse:Security soap:mustUnderstand="1" xmlns:wsse="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-secext-1.0.xsd" xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-secext-1.0.xsd"> <dsig:Signature xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#" xmlns:dsig="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#"> <dsig:SignedInfo> <dsig:CanonicalizationMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2001/10/xml-exc-c14n#"/> <dsig:SignatureMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#rsa-sha1"/> <dsig:Reference URI="#_51IUwNWRVvPOcz12pZHLNQ22"> <dsig:Transforms> <dsig:Transform Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2001/10/xml-exc-c14n#"/> </dsig:Transforms> <dsig:DigestMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#sha1"/> <dsig:DigestValue> [DigestValue here] </dsig:DigestValue> </dsig:Reference> <dsig:Reference URI="#_dI5j0EqxrVsj0e62J6vd6w22"> <dsig:Transforms> <dsig:Transform Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2001/10/xml-exc-c14n#"/> </dsig:Transforms> <dsig:DigestMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#sha1"/> <dsig:DigestValue> [DigestValue here] </dsig:DigestValue> </dsig:Reference> </dsig:SignedInfo> <dsig:SignatureValue> [Signature Value Here] </dsig:SignatureValue> <dsig:KeyInfo> <wsse:SecurityTokenReference xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-secext-1.0.xsd"> <wsse:Reference URI="#BST-9nKWbrE4LRv6maqstrGuUQ22" ValueType="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-x509-token-profile-1.0#X509v3"/> </wsse:SecurityTokenReference> </dsig:KeyInfo> </dsig:Signature> <wsse:BinarySecurityToken ValueType="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-x509-token-profile-1.0#X509v3" EncodingType="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-soap-message-security-1.0#Base64Binary" wsu:Id="BST-9nKWbrE4LRv6maqstrGuUQ22" xmlns:wsu="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-utility-1.0.xsd"> [Security Token Here] </wsse:BinarySecurityToken> <wsu:Timestamp wsu:Id="_dI5j0EqxrVsj0e62J6vd6w22" xmlns:wsu="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-utility-1.0.xsd" xmlns="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-utility-1.0.xsd"> <wsu:Created>2010-05-26T18:46:30Z</wsu:Created> </wsu:Timestamp> </wsse:Security> </soap:Header> <soap:Body wsu:Id="_51IUwNWRVvPOcz12pZHLNQ22" xmlns:wsu="http://docs.oasis-open.org/wss/2004/01/oasis-200401-wss-wssecurity-utility-1.0.xsd"> [Body content here] </soap:Body> </soap:Envelope> My binding configuration looks like: <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="myBinding" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" allowCookies="false" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferSize="65536" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" transferMode="Buffered" useDefaultWebProxy="true"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="16384" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <security mode="TransportWithMessageCredential"> <transport clientCredentialType="None" proxyCredentialType="None" realm="" /> <message clientCredentialType="UserName" algorithmSuite="Default" /> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> I'm new at WCF, so I'm sorry if this is a bit of a dumb question. • IBM Websphere on Windows- OutOfMemoryError: Failed to create a thread

    - by Kishnan
I have a J2EE application running on an IBM Websphere Application Server on a Windows Operating System. Occasionally I see an OutOfMemoryError Exception with the following information in the javacore file. 1TISIGINFO Dump Event "systhrow" (00040000) Detail "java/lang/OutOfMemoryError":"Failed to create a thread: retVal -1073741830, errno 12" received Java is run with the following configurations: -Xms512m -Xmx1350m -Xscmx50M Analyzing the javacore file, the number of threads are just 124. Analyzing the heap dump, the memory occupied by the heap is about 500Mb. Given the relatively normal number of threads and heap size a lot lower than the maximum, I am trying to figure out why I see this error? I´m not sure if this helps, but here is the top section of the javacore file...
