• Textarea to paragraphs

  When I have to render textarea content to the front end I usually pass it thru a function that converts newlines to <br/> tags and double newlines signal paragraph tags so blocks of text get surrounded by <p> and </p> tags. To save time I usually use a ready made PHP function from the wordpress codebase. You can get the link from the man himself: http://ma.tt/scripts/autop/ If you check it out you'll see it does some heavy lifting with about 20 regular expressions. I know I could use a wysiwyg editor (like TinyMCE or CKEditor) that can format the data on the client and then send it to the server (most of them add <p>..</p> tags by default) but I want to know the experience of others in handling raw textarea input and then displaying it on the front end.

• Looking for a Magnetic Card Reader with data storage

  I am looking for a magnetic card reader with data storage of about 2 GB. This reader be placed in open under a shade, but would be exposed to temperatures from -5 C to 50 C. Job is to swipe customer loyalty cards issued to regular customers of a gas station. Each time they get gas filled, they will swipe their card, to mark their presence. Swiped data be stored in the reader. And on intervals be transferred to a PC lying in the office. The customer visits data be used to award some gifts or benefits to frequently visiting clients. • Change a subform's recordsource from another subform in Access

  I am using MS Access 2003 and I have a form with two subforms (subform1 and subform2) which are not nested. They both display tabular data on them so they cannot be nested. I would like to change the recordsource on subform2 based on a value in the current record on subform1. I have tried to put the code in the oncurrent event of subform1 but I cannot seem to refer to the recordsource in subform2 from subform1. From subform1 I have tried me.parent!subform2.form.recordsource but I get a runtime error ‘2455’ You have entered an expression that has an invalid reference to the property form/report. Any ideas?

• Design view disappeared from Interface Builder

  All of a sudden, the visual design window disappeared from my Interface Builder. It is a regular UIView, has some UIImageView, UILabel, and UIButtons on it. When I open IB, I can see the document window (with File's Owner, First Responder and View in it), Library and Inspector, but the visual design window disappeared. Double click on "View" in the document window doesn't do anything. If I go to List mode, I can see all the components on the view, but just can no longer find the visual design window. All other XIB can open just fine, only this XIB lost its design window. First I thought maybe it was hidden somewhere on the screen. Tried all kinds of things, even rebooting the computer, but nothing helped. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! By the way, I'm running SDK 3.2 Beta 3.

• MS Office SharePoint Server 2007 UI language change

  There is an existing app in MOSS, which allows to create polls for a call center, operators fill them out as they call targeted customers. Then this Web app outputs the results of this poll. Is it possible to change the interface language of this existing web app? Operators don't understand English. If it's not about language packs, it would still be easier for me to embed new names and labels, rather than rewrite in a system I am not familiar with. Also, is it possible to change the authentication type from Windows authentication to regular username/password check (username and password will be stored in DB or somewhere only for this site) If it is possible, can you direct me to some kind of tutorial, help or manual which would show how to do it? On MSDN it's written that language can't be changed, but I'm not sure whether it's about the Web app language. Thank you.

• Need to debug LINQ simple queries in Visual Studio 2010

  I often get in a position when I need to know why my LINQ doesnt work as intended... I use object collections and extensions. I dont want spend more than couple of minutes on it. LINQ supposed to make developer's life easier not harder. I hoped VS 2010 will have it fixed but I now use RC and it still doesnt let me type LINQ and check what is going on... Says as before "Expression cannot contain lambda expressions"... Is there some add-on for Visual Studio so I can quickly and effectively run ad-hoc queries and find out what is going on and where I am wrong?

• COM/DCOM problem when hosting executable is run as a service

  I am struggling for days now with the following problem: We have an executable that hosts a COM server, say x.exe. The COM object is instantiated as follows on the calling site: hRes = CoCreateInstance(CLSID_InterceptX, NULL, CLSCTX_SERVER, IID_IInterceptX, (void**)&pInterceptX); It all works fine when x runs as an regular application. We have a tool (I don't know how it works) that encapsulates x.exe so that it runs as a service under Windows (x.exe is a running process). In this case, we never receive a COM call in x.exe (validated by logging). Here is the weird part: From logging the calling site, I can tell that the COM object has been successfully instantiated and also the call to an interface function does not produce an error (SUCEEDED(hres) is true). Any ideas?

  Before I delve into it, I'm very new to Android and I have just started learning Java last month. I've hit bumps while trying to develop my first simple app. Most of these hurdles were jumped thanks to random tutorials online. MY CODE IS VERY MESSY. Any tips are appreciated. The question above is quite broad, but this is what I want to do: It's a essentially a blood alcohol content calculator / drink keeper-tracker. It calculates your BAC based on the factors involved. When I press the add beer button (Button01) I make it add 1 to StandardDrinks, simulating drinking one beer. The other variables in the Bac formula have values assigned to them in Global.java. This is the Bac value for if StandardDrinks was still 0, so obviously there is some problem communicating between the classes. Can anyone help me?? The other elements of the formula (weight, time spent drinking, and the alcohol %'s and such) are variables because I will ultimately allow the user to change those values in the settings. I've heard around the water cooler that global variables are not good programming style, but this is the closest I've come to getting it to work. Any other ways of doing it are very much welcomed!

• Git clone using ssh - can't find repository

  I'm trying to setup a Git server on Windows 7, using CopSsh, PuTTY and msysgit. I'm having problems cloning a repository using ssh. If I use a regular directory path, it works: $ git clone ~/vc/git/depot/test.git/ /c/dev/es/app Initialized empty Git repository in c:/dev/es/app/.git/ warning: You appear to have cloned an empty repository. Ssh, doesn't work. • 'Generic' ViewModel

  Using EF 4, I have several subtypes of a 'Business' entity (customers, suppliers, haulage companies etc). They DO need to be subtypes. I am building a general viewmodel which calls into a service from which a generic repository is accessed. As I have 4 subtypes, it would be good to have a 'generic' viewmodel used for all of these. Problem is of course is that I have to call a specific type into my generic repository, for example: BusinessToRetrieve = _repository .LoadEntity<Customer>(o => o.CustomerID == customerID); It would be good to be able to call <SomethingElse>, somethingElse being one or other of the subtypes), otherwise I shall have to create 4 near identical viemodels, which seems a waste of course! The subtype entity name is available to the viewmodel but I've been unable to figure out how to make the above call convert this into a type. An issue with achieving what I want is that presumably the lambda expression being passed in wouldn't be able to resolve on a 'generic' call ?

  I have a data structures homework, that in addition to the regular AVL tree functions, I have to add a function that returns the minimum gap between any two numbers in the AVL tree (the nodes in the AVL actually represent numbers.) Lets say we have the numbers (as nodes) 1 5 12 20 23 21 in the AVL tree, the function should return the minimum gap between any two numbers. In this situation it should return "1" which is |20-21| or |21-20|. It should be done in O(1). Tried to think alot about it, and I know there is a trick but just couldn't find it, I have spent hours on this. There was another task which is to find the maximum gap, which is easy, it is the difference between the minimal and maximal number.

Single left outer join works with what I have done above. How do I include PlatformIdentities (the 3rd table) ? I basically want to translate the SQL query I specified at the beginning of this post (which gives me exactly what I need) in to LinqToEntities. Thanks

  Say I want to create a sort of Pre-processor for existing java code, so I can get the language specific keywords and objects, and then create routines that convert them to their Csharp equivalents, using Csharp code - what route should this take? I'm thinking of Regular Expressions, but I'm fuzzed. I have a bunch of about a 100 .java files and I need to convert them to csharp code in record time. I have manually done just about five of them and I have serious headaches already. Or are there any tools out there that already do that?

• Regex Problem in PHP

  I'm attempting to utilize the following Regex pattern: $regex = '/Name: [a-zA-Z ]*] [0-9]/'; When testing it in Rubular, it works fine, but when using PHP the expression never returns true, even when it should. Incidentally, if I remove the "[0-9]" part, it works fine. Is there some difference in PHP's regex syntax that I'm overlooking? Edit: I'm looking for the characters "Name:" then a name containing any number of letters or spaces, then a "]", then a space, then a single number. So "Name: Chris] 5" would return true and "Name: Chris] [lorem ipsum]" should return false. I also tried escaping the second bracket "\[" but this did not fix the problem.

• Regex question: Why isn't this matching?

  I have the following regex: (?<=\.\d+?)0+(?=\D|$) I'm running it against a string which contains the following: SVC~NU^0270~313.3~329.18~~10~~6.00: When it runs, it matches the 6.00 (correctly) which my logic then trims by one zero to turn into 6.0. The regex then runs again (or should) but fails to pick up the 6.0. I'm by no means an expert on Regex, but my understanding of my expression is that it's looking for a decimal with 1 or more optional (so, really zero or more) digits prior to one or more zeros which are then followed by any non-digit character or the line break. Assuming that interpretation is correct, I can't see why it wouldn't match on the second pass. For that matter, I'm not sure why my Regex.Replace isn't matching the full 6.00 on the first pass and removing both of the trailing zeros... Any suggestions?

  Drawing a blank on this, and google was not helpful.   Hi I need to assign a formatted date to a column in a data flow. I have added a Derived Column editor and entered the following expression: "BBD" + SUBSTRING((DT_WSTR,4)DATEADD("Day",30,GETDATE()),1,4) + SUBSTRING((DT_WSTR,2)DATEADD("Day",30,GETDATE()),6,2) + SUBSTRING((DT_WSTR,2)DATEADD("Day",30,GETDATE()),9,2) The problem is that the "Derived Column Transformation Editor" automatically assigns a Data Type of "Unicode string[DT_WSTR]" and a length of "7". Howver, the length of a string is 11, therefore the following exception is thrown each time: [Best Before Date [112]] Error: The "component "Best Before Date" (112)" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "output column "Comments" (132)" specifies failure on truncation. A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component. Does anyone know why the edit is insisting on a length of 7? I don't seem to be able to change this. Many thanks, Rob.

  I'm trying to get will paginate to link to my nested route instead of the regular posts variable. I know I'm supposed to pass some params to paginate but I don't know how to pass them. Basically there is an array stored in @posts and the other param paginate has access to is category_id.   What would be an easy expression to process command line arguments if I'm expecting anything like 001 or 999 (let's limit expectations to 001...999 range for this time), and few other arguments passed, and would like to ignore any unexpected? I understand if for example I need to find out if "debug" was passed among parameters it'll be something like that: if 'debug' in argv[1:]: print 'Will be running in debug mode.' How to find out if 009 or 575 was passed? All those are expected calls: python script.py python script.py 011 python script.py 256 debug python script.py 391 xls python script.py 999 debug pdf At this point I don't care about calls like that: python script.py 001 002 245 568 python script.py some unexpected argument python script.py 0001 python script.py 02 ...first one - because of more than one "numeric" argument; second - because of... well, unexpected arguments; third and fourth - because of non-3-digits arguments.

• Easy Flood Fill

  Some advice, please. I'm just starting out in C#. I've managed to get some shapes created on a Windows form, and now I'd like to fill them with color. In the old C++ I studied years ago, there was a floodfill function that was really easy. It has been an unpleasant realization to find there's not a similar method available in regular old C#. Does anyone have advice for me, or some code, so I can implement filling without understanding GDI+, DirectX, or rest of the avalanche of acronyms that I've run into by researching this on the web? I need to fill irregular shapes, bounded by a certain color. Gradient and transparency control would be nice, but I'd settle for plain old solid fill right now, just to get a modicom of control over this. Any help, code or advice would be really appreciated.

• Facebook canvas app ASP.NET MVC HttpException: Invalid Model

  I am working on a Facebook tab application. I am using asp.net MVC 2 with the "official" Microsoft Facebook SDK. Most of my views are working just fine. However, I have one that is causing a huge mess. I am simply returning a List<Tags> to the view and as my ViewModel. This problematic view is simply displaying the list in a foreach loop. Whenever navigate to this view I get a "System.Web.HttpException: Invalid Model" exception. The most puzzling part of all this is that the same code is running without fail on our regular(non-Facebook) app that works just fine with the same code. Any insight into why Facebook and asp.net MVC 2 would be causing this behavior would be much appreciated.
