  • Can't connect to WCF service on Android

    - by illvm
    I am trying to connect to a .NET WCF service in Android using kSOAP2 (v 2.1.2), but I keep getting a fatal exception whenever I try to make the service call. I'm having a bit of difficulty tracking down the error and can't seem to figure out why it's happening. The code I am using is below: package org.example.android; import org.ksoap2.SoapEnvelope; import org.ksoap2.serialization.PropertyInfo; import org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapObject; import org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapSerializationEnvelope; import org.ksoap2.transport.HttpTransport; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; public class ValidateUser extends Activity { private static final String SOAP_ACTION = "http://tempuri.org/mobile/ValidateUser"; private static final String METHOD_NAME = "ValidateUser"; private static final String NAMESPACE = "http://tempuri.org/mobile/"; private static final String URL = "http://192.168.1.2:8002/WebService.Mobile.svc"; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.validate_user); Intent intent = getIntent(); Bundle extras = intent.getExtras(); if (extras == null) { this.finish(); } String username = extras.getString("username"); String password = extras.getString("password"); Boolean validUser = false; try { SoapObject request = new SoapObject(NAMESPACE, METHOD_NAME); PropertyInfo uName = new PropertyInfo(); uName.name = "userName"; PropertyInfo pWord = new PropertyInfo(); pWord.name = "passWord"; request.addProperty(uName, username); request.addProperty(pWord, password); SoapSerializationEnvelope envelope = new SoapSerializationEnvelope(SoapEnvelope.VER11); envelope.dotNet = true; envelope.setOutputSoapObject(request); HttpTransport androidHttpTransport = new HttpTransport(URL); androidHttpTransport.call(SOAP_ACTION, envelope); // error occurs here Integer userId = (Integer)envelope.getResponse(); validUser = (userId != 0); } catch (Exception ex) { } } private void exit () { this.finish(); } } EDIT: Remove the old stack traces. In summary, the first problem was the program being unable to open a connection due to missing methods or libraries due to using vanilla kSOAP2 rather than a modified library for Android (kSOAP2-Android). The second issue was a settings issue. In the Manifest I did not add the following setting: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" /> I am now having an issue with the XMLPullParser which I need to figure out. 12-23 10:58:06.480: ERROR/SOCKETLOG(210): add_recv_stats recv 0 12-23 10:58:06.710: WARN/System.err(210): org.xmlpull.v1.XmlPullParserException: unexpected type (position:END_DOCUMENT null@1:0 in java.io.InputStreamReader@433fb070) 12-23 10:58:06.710: WARN/System.err(210): at org.kxml2.io.KXmlParser.exception(KXmlParser.java:243) 12-23 10:58:06.720: WARN/System.err(210): at org.kxml2.io.KXmlParser.nextTag(KXmlParser.java:1363) 12-23 10:58:06.720: WARN/System.err(210): at org.ksoap2.SoapEnvelope.parse(SoapEnvelope.java:126) 12-23 10:58:06.720: WARN/System.err(210): at org.ksoap2.transport.Transport.parseResponse(Transport.java:63) 12-23 10:58:06.720: WARN/System.err(210): at org.ksoap2.transport.HttpTransportSE.call(HttpTransportSE.java:100) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at org.example.android.ValidateUser.onCreate(ValidateUser.java:68) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.app.Instrumentation.callActivityOnCreate(Instrumentation.java:1122) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.app.ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2104) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleLaunchActivity(ActivityThread.java:2157) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$1800(ActivityThread.java:112) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1581) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:88) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:3739) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:515) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:739) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:497) 12-23 10:58:06.730: WARN/System.err(210): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method)

  • IIS 7 Authentication: Certain users can't authenticate, while almost all others can.

    - by user35335
    I'm using IIS 7 Digest authentication to control access to a certain directory containing files. Users access the files through a department website from inside our network and outside. I've set NTFS permissions on the directory to allow a certain AD group to view the files. When I click a link to one of those files on the website I get prompted for a username and password. With most users everything works fine, but with a few of them it prompts for a password 3 times and then get: 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. But other users that are in the group can get in without a problem. If I switch it over to Windows Authentication, then the trouble users can log in fine. That directory is also shared, and users that can't log in through the website are able to browse to the share and view files in it, so I know that the permissions are ok. Here's the portion of the IIS log where I tried to download the file (/assets/files/secure/WWGNL.pdf): 2010-02-19 19:47:20 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /assets/images/bullet.gif - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 200 0 0 218 2010-02-19 19:47:20 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /assets/images/bgOFF.gif - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 200 0 0 218 2010-02-19 19:47:21 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /assets/files/secure/WWGNL.pdf - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 401 2 5 0 2010-02-19 19:47:36 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /assets/files/secure/WWGNL.pdf - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 401 1 2148074252 0 2010-02-19 19:47:43 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /assets/files/secure/WWGNL.pdf - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 401 1 2148074252 15 2010-02-19 19:47:46 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /manager/media/script/_session.gif 0.19665693119168282 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 200 0 0 203 2010-02-19 19:47:46 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx POST /manager/index.php - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 200 0 0 296 2010-02-19 19:47:56 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /assets/files/secure/WWGNL.pdf - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 401 1 2148074252 15 2010-02-19 19:47:59 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx GET /favicon.ico - 80 - 10.5.16.138 Mozilla/5.0+(Windows;+U;+Windows+NT+6.1;+en-US)+AppleWebKit/532.5+(KHTML,+like+Gecko)+Chrome/4.0.249.89+Safari/532.5 404 0 2 0 Here's the Failed Logon attempt in the Security Log: Log Name: Security Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing Date: 2/19/2010 11:47:43 AM Event ID: 4625 Task Category: Logon Level: Information Keywords: Audit Failure User: N/A Computer: WEB4.net.domain.org Description: An account failed to log on. • .NET Web Service (asmx) Timeout Problem

    - by Barry Fandango
I'm connecting to a vendor-supplied web ASMX service and sending a set of data over the wire. My first attempt hit the 1 minute timeout that Visual Studio throws in by default in the app.config file when you add a service reference to a project. I increased it to 10 minutes, another timeout. 1 hour, another timeout: Error: System.TimeoutException: The request channel timed out while waiting for a reply after 00:59:59.6874880. Increase the timeout value passed to the call to Request or increase the SendTimeout value on the Binding. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.TimeoutE xception: The HTTP request to 'http://servername/servicename.asmx' has exceeded the allotted timeout of 01:00:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. ---> System.Net.WebExcept ion: The operation has timed out at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() [... lengthly stacktrace follows] I contacted the vendor. They confirmed the call may take over an hour (don't ask, they are the bane of my existence.) I increased the timeout to 10 hours to be on the safe side. However the web service call continues to time out at 1 hour. The relevant app.config section now looks like this: <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="BindingName" closeTimeout="10:00:00" openTimeout="10:00:00" receiveTimeout="10:00:00" sendTimeout="10:00:00" allowCookies="false" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" messageEncoding="Text" textEncoding="utf-8" transferMode="Buffered" useDefaultWebProxy="true"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="8192" maxArrayLength="2147483647" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" /> <security mode="None"> <transport clientCredentialType="None" proxyCredentialType="None" realm="" /> <message clientCredentialType="UserName" algorithmSuite="Default" /> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> Pretty absurd, but regardless the timeout is still kicking in at 1 hour. Unfortunately every change takes at least an additional hour to test. Is there some internal limit that I'm bumping into - another timeout setting to be changed somewhere? All changes to these settings up to one hour had the expected effect. Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Xcode is not calling asp.net webservice

    - by vaibhav
I have oracle database and using webservice i want to insert some records in to it So i created webservice in asp.net as follows public bool PickPill(string Me_id, string Mem_device_id, string Test_datetime, string Creation_id, string PillBayNo) { string Hed_seq_id = Hed_seq_Id(); bool ResultHED = InsHealthEData(Hed_seq_id, Mem_device_id, Me_id, Test_datetime, Creation_id); bool ResultHET = InsHealthETest(Hed_seq_id, PillBayNo, Test_datetime, Creation_id); if (ResultHED == ResultHET == true) return true; else return false; } this function did all data insertion trick for me i tested this service on the local mechine with ip address http:72.44.151.178/PickPillService.asmx then, I see an example on how to attach asp.net web service to iphone apps http://www.devx.com/wireless/Article/43209/0/page/4 then i created simillar code in xcode which has 2 files ConsumePillServiceViewController.m ConsumePillServiceViewController.h file Now, Using Designer of xcode i created 5 textboxes(Me_id,Mem_device_id,Test_datetime,Creation_id,PillBayNo) with all parameters hardcode as our service demands then modify my ConsumePillServiceViewController.h file as follows @interface ConsumePillServiceViewController : UIViewController { //---outlets--- IBOutlet UITextField *Me_id; IBOutlet UITextField *Mem_device_id; IBOutlet UITextField *Test_datetime; IBOutlet UITextField *Creation_id; IBOutlet UITextField *PillBayNo; //---web service access--- NSMutableData *webData; NSMutableString *soapResults; NSURLConnection *conn; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UITextField *Me_id; @property (nonatomic, retain) UITextField *Mem_device_id; @property (nonatomic, retain) UITextField *Test_datetime; @property (nonatomic, retain) UITextField *Creation_id; @property (nonatomic, retain) UITextField *PillBayNo; - (IBAction)buttonClicked:(id)sender; @end and ConsumePillServiceViewController.m as follows import "ConsumePillServiceViewController.h" @implementation ConsumePillServiceViewController @synthesize Me_id; @synthesize Mem_device_id; @synthesize Test_datetime; @synthesize Creation_id; @synthesize PillBayNo; (IBAction)buttonClicked:(id)sender { NSString *soapMsg = @"" "" "" ""; NSString *smMe_id= [soapMsg stringByAppendingString: [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@",Me_id.text]]; NSString *smMem_device_id= [smMe_id stringByAppendingString: [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@",Mem_device_id.text]]; NSString *smTest_datetime= [smMem_device_id stringByAppendingString: [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@",Test_datetime.text]]; NSString *smCreation_id= [smTest_datetime stringByAppendingString: [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@",Creation_id.text]]; NSString *smPillBayNo= [smCreation_id stringByAppendingString: [NSString stringWithFormat: @"%@",PillBayNo.text]]; NSString *smRestMsg= [smPillBayNo stringByAppendingString: @"" "" ""]; soapMsg=smRestMsg; //---print it to the Debugger Console for verification--- NSLog(soapMsg); NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString: //create a URL load request object using instances : @"http://72.44.151.178/PickPillService.asmx"];//of the NSMutableURLRequest and NSURL objects NSMutableURLRequest *req = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; //opulate the request object with the various headers, such as Content-Type, SOAPAction, and Content-Length. //You also set the HTTP method and HTTP body NSString *msgLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [soapMsg length]]; [req addValue:@"text/xml; charset=utf-8" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"]; [req addValue:@"http://tempuri.org/PickPill" forHTTPHeaderField:@"SOAPAction"]; [req addValue:msgLength forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"]; //---set the HTTP method and body--- [req setHTTPMethod:@"POST"]; [req setHTTPBody: [soapMsg dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:req delegate:self]; //establish the connection with the web service, if (conn) { //you use the NSURLConnection class together with the request object just created webData = [[NSMutableData data] retain];//webData object use to receive incoming data from the web service } }//End of button clicked event -(void) connection:(NSURLConnection *) connection //Recive response didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *) response { [webData setLength: 0]; } -(void) connection:(NSURLConnection *) connection //Repeative call method and append data to webData didReceiveData:(NSData *) data { [webData appendData:data]; } -(void) connection:(NSURLConnection *) connection//If error occure error should be displayed didFailWithError:(NSError *) error { [webData release]; [connection release]; } -(void) connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *) connection { NSLog(@"DONE. • ASP.NET GZip Encoding Caveats

    - by Rick Strahl
GZip encoding in ASP.NET is pretty easy to accomplish using the built-in GZipStream and DeflateStream classes and applying them to the Response.Filter property.  While applying GZip and Deflate behavior is pretty easy there are a few caveats that you have watch out for as I found out today for myself with an application that was throwing up some garbage data. But before looking at caveats let’s review GZip implementation for ASP.NET. ASP.NET GZip/Deflate Basics Response filters basically are applied to the Response.OutputStream and transform it as data is written to it through the ASP.NET Response object. So a Response.Write eventually gets written into the output stream which if a filter is also written through the filter stream’s interface. To perform the actual GZip (and Deflate) encoding typically used by Web pages .NET includes the GZipStream and DeflateStream stream classes which can be readily assigned to the Repsonse.OutputStream. With these two stream classes in place it’s almost trivially easy to create a couple of reusable methods that allow you to compress your HTTP output. In my standard WebUtils utility class (from the West Wind West Wind Web Toolkit) created two static utility methods – IsGZipSupported and GZipEncodePage – that check whether the client supports GZip encoding and then actually encodes the current output (note that although the method includes ‘Page’ in its name this code will work with any ASP.NET output). /// <summary> /// Determines if GZip is supported /// </summary> /// <returns></returns> public static bool IsGZipSupported() { string AcceptEncoding = HttpContext.Current.Request.Headers["Accept-Encoding"]; if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(AcceptEncoding) && (AcceptEncoding.Contains("gzip") || AcceptEncoding.Contains("deflate"))) return true; return false; } /// <summary> /// Sets up the current page or handler to use GZip through a Response.Filter /// IMPORTANT: /// You have to call this method before any output is generated! /// </summary> public static void GZipEncodePage() { HttpResponse Response = HttpContext.Current.Response; if (IsGZipSupported()) { string AcceptEncoding = HttpContext.Current.Request.Headers["Accept-Encoding"]; if (AcceptEncoding.Contains("deflate")) { Response.Filter = new System.IO.Compression.DeflateStream(Response.Filter, System.IO.Compression.CompressionMode.Compress); Response.Headers.Remove("Content-Encoding"); Response.AppendHeader("Content-Encoding", "deflate"); } else { Response.Filter = new System.IO.Compression.GZipStream(Response.Filter, System.IO.Compression.CompressionMode.Compress); Response.Headers.Remove("Content-Encoding"); Response.AppendHeader("Content-Encoding", "gzip"); } } } As you can see the actual assignment of the Filter is as simple as: Response.Filter = new DeflateStream(Response.Filter, System.IO.Compression.CompressionMode.Compress); which applies the filter to the OutputStream. You also need to ensure that your response reflects the new GZip or Deflate encoding and ensure that any pages that are cached in Proxy servers can differentiate between pages that were encoded with the various different encodings (or no encoding). To use this utility function now is trivially easy: In any ASP.NET code that wants to compress its Response output you simply use: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { WebUtils.GZipEncodePage(); Entry = WebLogFactory.GetEntry(); var entries = Entry.GetLastEntries(App.Configuration.ShowEntryCount, "pk,Title,SafeTitle,Body,Entered,Feedback,Location,ShowTopAd", "TEntries"); if (entries == null) throw new ApplicationException("Couldn't load WebLog Entries: " + Entry.ErrorMessage); this.repEntries.DataSource = entries; this.repEntries.DataBind(); } Here I use an ASP.NET page, but the above WebUtils.GZipEncode() method call will work in any ASP.NET application type including HTTP Handlers. The only requirement is that the filter needs to be applied before any other output is sent to the OutputStream. For example, in my CallbackHandler service implementation by default output over a certain size is GZip encoded. The output that is generated is JSON or XML and if the output is over 5k in size I apply WebUtils.GZipEncode(): if (sbOutput.Length > GZIP_ENCODE_TRESHOLD) WebUtils.GZipEncodePage(); Response.ContentType = ControlResources.STR_JsonContentType; HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(sbOutput.ToString()); Ok, so you probably get the idea: Encoding GZip/Deflate content is pretty easy. Hold on there Hoss –Watch your Caching Or is it? There are a few caveats that you need to watch out for when dealing with GZip content. The fist issue is that you need to deal with the fact that some clients don’t support GZip or Deflate content. Most modern browsers support it, but if you have a programmatic Http client accessing your content GZip/Deflate support is by no means guaranteed. For example, WinInet Http clients don’t support GZip out of the box – it has to be explicitly implemented. Other low level HTTP clients on other platforms too don’t support GZip out of the box. The problem is that your application, your Web Server and Proxy Servers on the Internet might be caching your generated content. If you return content with GZip once and then again without, either caching is not applied or worse the wrong type of content is returned back to the client from a cache or proxy. The result is an unreadable response for *some clients* which is also very hard to debug and fix once in production. You already saw the issue of Proxy servers addressed in the GZipEncodePage() function: // Allow proxy servers to cache encoded and unencoded versions separately Response.AppendHeader("Vary", "Content-Encoding"); This ensures that any Proxy servers also check for the Content-Encoding HTTP Header to cache their content – not just the URL. The same thing applies if you do OutputCaching in your own ASP.NET code. If you generate output for GZip on an OutputCached page the GZipped content will be cached (either by ASP.NET’s cache or in some cases by the IIS Kernel Cache). But what if the next client doesn’t support GZip? She’ll get served a cached GZip page that won’t decode and she’ll get a page full of garbage. Wholly undesirable. To fix this you need to add some custom OutputCache rules by way of the GetVaryByCustom() HttpApplication method in your global_ASAX file: public override string GetVaryByCustomString(HttpContext context, string custom) { // Override Caching for compression if (custom == "GZIP") { string acceptEncoding = HttpContext.Current.Response.Headers["Content-Encoding"]; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(acceptEncoding)) return ""; else if (acceptEncoding.Contains("gzip")) return "GZIP"; else if (acceptEncoding.Contains("deflate")) return "DEFLATE"; return ""; } return base.GetVaryByCustomString(context, custom); } In a page that use Output caching you then specify: <%@ OutputCache Duration="180" VaryByParam="none" VaryByCustom="GZIP" %> To use that custom rule. It’s all Fun and Games until ASP.NET throws an Error Ok, so you’re up and running with GZip, you have your caching squared away and your pages that you are applying it to are jamming along. Then BOOM, something strange happens and you get a lovely garbled page that look like this: Lovely isn’t it? What’s happened here is that I have WebUtils.GZipEncode() applied to my page, but there’s an error in the page. The error falls back to the ASP.NET error handler and the error handler removes all existing output (good) and removes all the custom HTTP headers I’ve set manually (usually good, but very bad here). Since I applied the Response.Filter (via GZipEncode) the output is now GZip encoded, but ASP.NET has removed my Content-Encoding header, so the browser receives the GZip encoded content without a notification that it is encoded as GZip. The result is binary output. Here’s what Fiddler says about the raw HTTP header output when an error occurs when GZip encoding was applied: HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error Cache-Control: private Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Date: Sat, 30 Apr 2011 22:21:08 GMT Content-Length: 2138 Connection: close ?`I?%&/m?{J?J??t??` … binary output striped here Notice: no Content-Encoding header and that’s why we’re seeing this garbage. ASP.NET has stripped the Content-Encoding header but left our filter intact. So how do we fix this? In my applications I typically have a global Application_Error handler set up and in this case I’ve been using that. One thing that you can do in the Application_Error handler is explicitly clear out the Response.Filter and set it to null at the top: protected void Application_Error(object sender, EventArgs e) { // Remove any special filtering especially GZip filtering Response.Filter = null; … } And voila I get my Yellow Screen of Death or my custom generated error output back via uncompressed content. BTW, the same is true for Page level errors handled in Page_Error or ASP.NET MVC Error handling methods in a controller. Another and possibly even better solution is to check whether a filter is attached just before the headers are sent to the client as pointed out by Adam Schroeder in the comments: protected void Application_PreSendRequestHeaders() { // ensure that if GZip/Deflate Encoding is applied that headers are set // also works when error occurs if filters are still active HttpResponse response = HttpContext.Current.Response; if (response.Filter is GZipStream && response.Headers["Content-encoding"] != "gzip") response.AppendHeader("Content-encoding", "gzip"); else if (response.Filter is DeflateStream && response.Headers["Content-encoding"] != "deflate") response.AppendHeader("Content-encoding", "deflate"); } This uses the Application_PreSendRequestHeaders() pipeline event to check for compression encoding in a filter and adjusts the content accordingly. This is actually a better solution since this is generic – it’ll work regardless of how the content is cleaned up. For example, an error Response.Redirect() or short error display might get changed and the filter not cleared and this code actually handles that. Sweet, thanks Adam. It’s unfortunate that ASP.NET doesn’t natively clear out Response.Filters when an error occurs just as it clears the Response and Headers. I can’t see where leaving a Filter in place in an error situation would make any sense, but hey - this is what it is and it’s easy enough to fix as long as you know where to look. Riiiight! IIS and GZip I should also mention that IIS 7 includes good support for compression natively. If you can defer encoding to let IIS perform it for you rather than doing it in your code by all means you should do it! Especially any static or semi-dynamic content that can be made static should be using IIS built-in compression. Dynamic caching is also supported but is a bit more tricky to judge in terms of performance and footprint. John Forsyth has a great article on the benefits and drawbacks of IIS 7 compression which gives some detailed performance comparisons and impact reviews. I’ll post another entry next with some more info on IIS compression since information on it seems to be a bit hard to come by. • Consume WCF Web Service in Objective-C on an iPhone

    - by JWD
I am having a hard time consuming a very simple (Hello World) WCF web service in my iPhone app. From what I have read, you must manually create the request message then send it to the web service URL. I was able to accomplish this on a .asmx web service, but not with a WCF service. How do I know the correct format of the request SOAP message? The web service I am trying to hit has a format of: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT/IService1/ (running locally in a VM) I apologize for the lack of information, I am pretty lost. Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Variable number of arguments in an Axis2 POJO

    - by Mike
I have a web service that I built with Axis2/Java. The web service will take in a list of objects and will process them. I'll use the following operation as an example. public class AddToDatabaseService{ public void addToDatabase(String name1, String name2, String name3, ....) { //add names to database } } I want the caller of my web service to use a URI like: http://localhost:8080/axis2/services/addToDatabase?name1=Joe&name2=Bob&name3=Kelly&name4=... I'm aware this is not compilable code and the idea is still there. Is this even possible with SOAP-based web services? I know this is possible to do with RESTful services because you can just take the HttpServletRequest request object and do Enumeration enumeration = request.getParameterNames() and iterate through them. I'm looking for the equivalent of that in web services POJO's with Axis2. A link or an sample program would be great! Thanks.

  • IdHttp Post Method Delphi 2010

    - by Dusten S
    Like others before me, I'm having troubles using the IdHttp(Indy 10.5.5) component in Delphi 2010. The code works fine in Delphi 7: var XMLString : AnsiString; lService : AnsiString; ResponseStream: TMemoryStream; InputStringList : TStringList; begin ResponseStream := TMemoryStream.Create; InputStringList := TStringList.Create; XMLString :='<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> '+ '<!DOCTYPE pnet_imessage_send PUBLIC "-//PeopleNet//pnet_imessage_send" "http://open.peoplenetonline.com/dtd/pnet_imessage_send.dtd"> '+ '<pnet_imessage_send> '+ ' <cid>username</cid> '+ ' <pw>password</pw> '+ ' <vehicle_number>tr01</vehicle_number> '+ ' <deliver>now</deliver> '+ ' <action> '+ ' <action_type>reply_with_freeform</action_type> '+ ' <urgent_reply>yes</urgent_reply> '+ ' </action> '+ ' <freeform_message>Test Message Version 2</freeform_message> '+ '</pnet_imessage_send> '; lService := 'imessage_send'; InputStringList.Values['service'] := lService; InputStringList.Values['xml'] := XMLString; try IdHttp1.Request.Accept := '*/*'; IdHttp1.Request.ContentType := 'text/XML'; IdHTTP1.Post('http://open.peoplenetonline.com/scripts/open.dll', InputStringList, ResponseStream); ... finally ResponseStream.Free; InputStringList.Free; end; The only differences so far between this and the D7 code is that I've changed the String types to AnsiString, and added the HTTP Request properties. The response I get back from the server is 'XML failed to parse. Whitespace expected at Line:1 Position: 19', I'm assuming the XML got garbled up somewhere in the process, but I can't figure our where I'm going wrong. Any ideas?

  • iPhone: How to Get Basic Authentication to HTTPS Web Service Using NSURLCredential

    - by ian1971
I am trying to call an https web service (RESTful) using basic authentication. It works fine if I put the credentials in the url itself but I would rather add it to the request so that the password does not appear, for instance in an exception. I am using the following code: NSURLCredential *credential = [NSURLCredential credentialWithUser:@"myuser" password:@"mypassword" persistence:NSURLCredentialPersistenceForSession]; NSURLProtectionSpace *protectionSpace = [[NSURLProtectionSpace alloc] initWithHost:@"example.com" port:443 protocol:@"https" realm:nil authenticationMethod:NSURLAuthenticationMethodHTTPBasic]; [[NSURLCredentialStorage sharedCredentialStorage] setDefaultCredential:credential forProtectionSpace:protectionSpace]; NSURLConnection *theConnection = [NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:theRequest delegate:self]; but it does not work. The didReceiveAuthenticationChallenge delegate method gets called and I can add a credential there but ideally I would send it with the request. Any ideas?

  • UIWebView EXC_BAD_ACCESS crash

    - by HARDWARRIOR
I'm experiencing crashes of an app that uses UIWebView. Usually it's when page is not fully loaded and UIWebView is sent stopLoading selector. Or when UIWebView fully loaded page. I've got EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Stack looks like this: #0 0x95bb7688 in objc_msgSend #1 0x30a671db in -[UIWebView webView:decidePolicyForNavigationAction:request:frame:decisionListener:] #2 0x3024a10d in __invoking___ #3 0x30249ff8 in -[NSInvocation invoke] #4 0x358ab160 in HandleDelegateSource #5 0x302452c1 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific #6 0x30244628 in CFRunLoopRunInMode #7 0x32044c31 in GSEventRunModal #8 0x32044cf6 in GSEventRun #9 0x309021ee in UIApplicationMain #10 0x0000239c in main at main.m:13 for me most strange thing here is webView:decidePolicyForNavigationAction:request:frame:decisionListener: selector sent to UIWebView, because there is no such selector in UIWebView documentation! Only for Cocoa (not cocoa touch) WebView. I suspect that there is something wrong with UIWebView or its delegate. But I can't set breakpoint to watch them. Please advise how I can get more info in this situation.

  • Long-running ASP.NET tasks

    - by John Leidegren
I know there's a bunch of APIs out there that do this, but I also know that the hosting environment (being ASP.NET) puts restrictions on what you can reliably do in a separate thread. I could be completely wrong, so please correct me if I am, this is however what I think I know. A request typically timeouts after 120 seconds (this is configurable) but eventually the ASP.NET runtime will kill a request that's taking too long to complete. The hosting environment, typically IIS, employs process recycling and can at any point decide to recycle your app. When this happens all threads are aborted and the app restarts. I'm however not sure how aggressive it is, it would be kind of stupid to assume that it would abort a normal ongoing HTTP request but I would expect it to abort a thread because it doesn't know anything about the unit of work of a thread. If you had to create a programming model that easily and reliably and theoretically put a long running task, that would have to run for days, how would you accomplish this from within an ASP.NET application? The following are my thoughts on the issue: I've been thinking a long the line of hosting a WCF service in a win32 service. And talk to the service through WCF. This is however not very practical, because the only reason I would choose to do so, is to send tasks (units of work) from several different web apps. I'd then eventually ask the service for status updates and act accordingly. My biggest concern with this is that it would NOT be a particular great experience if I had to deploy every task to the service for it to be able to execute some instructions. There's also this issue of input, how would I feed this service with data if I had a large data set and needed to chew through it? What I typically do right now is this SELECT TOP 10 * FROM WorkItem WITH (ROWLOCK, UPDLOCK, READPAST) WHERE WorkCompleted IS NULL It allows me to use a SQL Server database as a work queue and periodically poll the database with this query for work. If the work item completed with success, I mark it as done and proceed until there's nothing more to do. What I don't like is that I could theoretically be interrupted at any point and if I'm in-between success and marking it as done, I could end up processing the same work item twice. I might be a bit paranoid and this might be all fine but as I understand it there's no guarantee that that won't happen... I know there's been similar questions on SO before but non really answers with a definitive answer. This is a really common thing, yet the ASP.NET hosting environment is ill equipped to handle long-running work. Please share your thoughts.

  • OAuth in C# as a client

    - by Redth
Hi, I've been given 6 bits of information to access some data from a website: Website Json Url (eg: http://somesite.com/items/list.json) OAuth Authorization Url (eg: http://somesite.com/oauth/authorization) OAuth Request Url (eg: http://somesite.com/oauth/request) OAuth Access Url (eg: http://somesite.com/oauth/access) Client Key (eg: 12345678) Client Secret (eg: abcdefghijklmnop) Now, I've looked at DotNetOpenAuth and OAuth.NET libraries, and while I'm sure they are very capable of doing what I need, I just can't figure out how to use either in this way. Could someone post some sample code of how to consume the Url (Point 1.) in either library (or any other way that may work just as well)? Thanks!

  • Spring - adding BindingResult to newly created model attribute

    - by Max
My task is - to create a model attribute by given request parameters, to validate it (in same method) and to give it whole to the View. I was given this code: //Create the model attribute by request parameters Promotion promotion = Promotions.get(someRequestParam); //Add the attribute to the model modelMap.addAttribute("promotion", promotion); if (!promotion.validate()) { BindingResult errors = new BeanPropertyBindingResult(promotion, "promotion"); errors.reject("promotion.invalid"); //TODO: This is the part I don't like model.put(BindingResult.MODEL_KEY_PREFIX + "promotion", errors); } This thing sure works, but that part with creating key with MODEL_KEY_PREFIX and attribute name looks very hackish and not a Spring style to me. Is there a way to make the same thing prettier?

  • WCF Windows Service TimeOut

    - by rmdussa
I have a client application developed in .net seding a request to wcf service and supposed to send reponse .if execution time with in 1 minute, there is no error,if it exceeds 1 minute the error is Inner exception: This request operation sent to net.tcp://localhost:18001/PitToPort/2008/01/30/StockpileService/tcp did not receive a reply within the configured timeout (00:01:00). The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout. This may be because the service is still processing the operation or because the service was unable to send a reply message. Please consider increasing the operation timeout (by casting the channel/proxy to IContextChannel and setting the OperationTimeout property) and ensure that the service is able to connect to the client how to increase the time out and how? What is the best solution.

  • Differences between Django ugettext and ugettext_lazy

    - by kRON
I keep rereading the Django's internationalization documentation and still don't understand when and why should I use django.translation.ugettext_lazy as opposed to django.translation.ugettext? I understand that using ugettext_lazy means that I will deffer from translating the string until the very end. Is it because Django parses the Accept-Language request header or the request.URL for the language code very late during the execution, which would mean that I may not be targeting the user's preferred language code if I was using ugettext? Would that ultimately mean that I should only use ugettext if I want to enforce that the message gets explicitly translated to the language specified in settings.LANGUAGE_CODE, or the currently active language as per django.translation.get_language()?

  • c# Network Programming - HTTPWebRequest Scraping

    - by masterguru
Hi, I am building a web scraping application. It should scrape a complex web site with concurrent HttpWebRequests from a single host to a single target web server. The application should run on Windows server 2008. One single HttpWebRequest for data could take from 1 minute to 4 minutes to complete (because of long running db operations) I should have at least 100 parallel requests to the target web server, but i have noticed that when i use more then 2-3 long-running requests i have big performance issues (request timeouts/hanging). How many concurrent requests can i have in this scenario from a single host to a single target web server? can i use Thread Pools in the application to run parallel HttpWebRequests to the server? will i have any issues with the default outbound HTTP connection/requests limits? what about Request timeouts when i reach outbound connection limits? what would be the best setup for my scenario? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Delay rendering or force re-rendering in Flex

    - by Tereno
Hi there, In my Flex application, using a custom control, I am making a JSON request to grab some data from the server. My rendering depends on this data such as knowing how many boxes to draw. How can I either force the rendering to wait until I've got the data before drawing to screen or have the boxes draw once we receive the data? I have an event listener for Event.COMPLETE for my JSON request and in there, I call methods that add to the control. I've tried invalidateDisplayList but that doesn't seem to do anything for me?

  • Where to use Controller.HttpContext

    - by Ben
Hi, In my base controller's constructor I am calling an extension method that checks for specific cookies on the client. Currently I am using System.Web.HttpContext.Current to get the current context. However, I am lead to believe that I should be using Controller.HttpContext since it is more testable and contains additional information about the request. However, Controller.HttpContext returns null on creation (believe this is by design) but also on Initialize and Execute methods (unless I use Routing.RequestContext.HttpContext?). So if I should be using Controller.HttpContext instead of HttpContext.Current, at what point is it available to me in a request? Thanks Ben

  • X.509 Certificate validation with Java and Bouncycastle

    - by Rob
Hi, through the bouncycastle wiki page I was able to understand how to create a X.509 root certificate and a certification request, but I do not quite understand how to proceed concept- and programming wise after that. Lets assume party A does a cert request and gets his client certificate from the CA. How can some party B validate A's certificate? What kind of certificate does A need? A root certificate? A 'normal' client certificate? And how does the validation work on programming level, if we assume that A has successfully send his certificate in DER or PEM format to B? Any help is much appreciated. Best Regards, Rob
