  • There is no Key attribute in EF CTP 5

    According to the blog post here Data Annotations in the Entity Framework there should be an attribute for a column called "Key" which allows you to mark the primary key of an entity. However I cannot locate this in .Net 3.5 or .Net 4.0. What have I missed? I've included the reference to EntityFramework.dll and I've checked all the attributes under System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations but I cannot locate it. I have set my project to .Net 4.0 full (not client profile). Any ideas?

  • VB.net Net after load event?

    I need some way of knowing when a form has finished loading. My reasoning is I have a 2nd form that is loaded when this form loads. The code for this is called from form1.load. Form2 is currently being displayed behind form1 as I am guessing form1 calls an activate or similar at the end of the load so any Activate, BringToFront etc calls on from2 are over ridden. If you look at the code below I have tried adding frmAllocationSearch.Activate, frmAllocationSearch.BringToFront and Me.SendToBack after the call to ShowAlloactionSearchDialog() but these are all wasted as something is happening after the load event is fired to bring Me to the front.     I am trying to get one of my developers set up to work on a fairly large .NETCF project. When we try to simply deploy the solution and all of its projects to a target device, deploying one of the projects triggers several assemblies from the desktop framework to be copied from the GAC to the device. What on earth could cause this? The assemblies from the "big" framework are ones like System.DirectoryServices, System.Design, and a bunch of others.

    I've created a object that I'd like to have accessible from wherever the request-object is accessible, and to "die" with the request, more or less like how you always in a mvc-application has access to the RouteData-collection. Especially it's important that I have access to this object in the execution of action-filters. And also there need to be created a new object of my class whenever a new request is made to the page (the object needs to be request-safe, ie. only one request modifies that one object). Any thoughts about how to achieve this?

    I don't need any data to be stored. I'd like an application to start, create an Entity Framework entities container based on the model I've designed but having no data records in it, then generate some data (from user input and other input sources), work with it and discard all the data on close, without propagating any data operations made with EF contect to a real database hosted on server or in a file. How do I implement such a pattern? I use Entity Framework 4 and Visual Studio 2010.

  • Preventing EF4 ConstraintException when invoking TryUpdateModel

    Given following ASP.NET MVC controller code: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(FormCollection collection) { string[] whitelist = new []{ "CompanyName", "Address1", "Address2", ... }; Partner newPartner = new Partner(); if (TryUpdateModel(newPartner, whitelist, collection)) { var db = new mainEntities(); db.Partners.AddObject(newPartner); db.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Details/" + newPartner.ID); } else { return View(); } } The problem is with the Entity Framework 4: the example Partner entity is mapped to a database table with it's fields NOT ALLOWED to be NULL (which is ok by design - they're required). Unfortunately, invoking TryUpdateModel when some of the properties are nulls produces ConstraintException which is not expected! I do expect that TryUpdateModel return false in this case. It is ok that EF wouldn't allow set a property value to null if it should not be, but the TryUpdateMethod should handle that, and add the error to ModelState errors collection. I am wrong, or somebody screwed the implementation of TryUpdateModel method?

    Hi everyone, I've been hunting for an answer to this on South's site, google, and SO, but couldn't find a simple way to do this. I want to rename a Django model using South. Say you have the following: class Foo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Foo) and you want to convert Foo to Bar, namely class Bar(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Bar) To keep it simple, I'm just trying to change the name from Foo to Bar, but ignore the 'foo' member in FooTwo for now. What's the easiest way to do this using South? a) I could probably do a data migration, but that seems pretty involved. b) Write a custom migration, e.g. db.rename_table('city_citystate', 'geo_citystate'), but I'm not sure how to fix the foreign key in this case. c) An easier way that you know?     Hi, I use Asp.net, SQL 2008 and EF 4. I need display hierarchy data in a treeview control, Data is stored in a DB that use HierarchyId. Unfortunately, EF4 doesn't support HierarchyId. So in this case, I thought to have a stored procedure that deals with my hierarchy and return a result set back to EF that EF4 can turn into a collection of user-defined complex type that can then be bound directly to the treeview control. I imported a SPROC in EF 4 using Import Function and now I have a Complex DataType called: CategoryHierarchy_Result An image of my Model: Here some data from the Complex Type (in a GridView for example GridView1.DataSource = context.CategoryHierarchy(1);): My questions is: How to display my data from my Complex Type in a TreeView Control, showing a Tree structure that respect CategoryNodeString?   • Why input elements don't render the value passed in ASP.Net MVC?

    This post asks this question but doesn't really give an answer, so I thought I would ask the question differently. I have a page that renders a hidden value from the model: <%=Html.Hidden("myName", model.myValue) %> Since I am passing a value in the value parameter, you would think it would output that value, but it doesn't. The code for rendering input fields has the following: string attemptedValue = (string)htmlHelper.GetModelStateValue(name, typeof(string)); tagBuilder.MergeAttribute("value", attemptedValue ?? ((useViewData) ? htmlHelper.EvalString(name) : valueParameter), isExplicitValue); Basically, if the ModelState (which contains posted values) contains a value for the "name" passed, it will use that value instead of your passed value to the helper method. In my case, I updated the model and my updated value wasn't outputted. If I pass a value to a method, I expect that value to be rendered. Am I missing something in this design or is it just wrong?

    I have two servers running IIS, say, Server-A and Server-B. Server-A is in the DMZ, visible to all users; Server-B is not in the DMZ. I need to provide a way for users to invoke a page on Server-A which will in turn remotely request a page on Server-B, transparently to the user. In other words, Server-A needs to do this on behalf of the user because the user does not have visibility to Server-B. Is this possible and if so, what is the best method to do this?
