• Converting an array to JSON and passing that to asmx

  Hi. I am trying to use JSON.stringify() (from json2.js of json[dot]org ) to convert a JavaScript array to JSON string and to pass it to an asmx web method. I use jQuery AJAX. The call reaches the web method where I take a List <Object> as parameter but I get an empty list there in debug mode. My JSON string looks like well formed with all data , I even tried having single-quotes and double-quotes(escaped) around the 'names' of the JSON string. Please help.

  For example: var myObj={ myValue="hola", asMember=function(){ alert( this.myValue ); } }; myObj.asMember(); // will work fine var asGlobal=myObj.asMember; // global alias for that member function asGlobal(); // won't work in javascript (will work in AS3, but i need js now) So the question is, can I rewrite asMember so that it could be called by global alias and without mentioning myObj at all? It's understood that if I define it: asMember=function(){ alert( myObj.myValue ); } it will work, but in my case, mentioning myObj is not acceptable even inside the function itself (because myObj may be reassigned later, but asGlobal won't change and should keep working)

• How can I get the text that was clicked on in Javascript?

  Does anyone know if it is possible with javascript to to tell the position of a mouse click in some text? I know it's easy to get the x,y coordinates, but I'm wanting the position in the text. For example if I clicked inside <p>foo bar</p> I want to be able to tell that the click was on/after the 5th character. Or that foo b is before the click and ar is after it. By the way, I'm using jQuery too, I'm happy with pure JS and solutions that use jQ. Thanks in advance.

• how can I override an anonymous javascript function attached to an eventlistener?

  I found that a website does somewhat sneaky things. When you hover over a link, it shows you the real URL. WHen you click on it, it uses the click/mousedown event to rewrite the URL. I want to override that behaviour in firefox, So I fired up firebug to see what it does. On a mouse click, it executes a function called window.tgs. Easy, I thought. I can override this function. My first attempt was to do get the element via getELementsByTagName(), and then element.removeEventListener("click",window.tgs, false); To my surprise, this did nothing. I tried redefining window.tgs window.tgs = function() { return true; }; that did not do anything either. I am not a JS expert. Your insights appreciated thanks Sid

  I have got a ExtJs application (MVC). So, I define many controllers, models, views and stores. At now, the structure of my project is not easy. For example my model: Ext.define('KP.model.account.AccountList', { extend: 'Ext.data.Model', fields: ['parameter', 'string_value'] }); I define my store with model like this: Ext.define('KP.store.account.AccountList', { extend: 'Ext.data.Store', alias: 'store.s_AccountList', model: 'KP.model.account.AccountList', ...................................... }); If I want to move some .js files, I must rewrite many paths in classes definitions. So, how can I declare my classes (by alias maybe) and use them more effectively? It's need, If I move files on files tree. Thanks!

• Catch $.getJSON error

  I've been trying to figure this out for hours. I have a DYNAMIC youtube search, which I use Youtube's JSON api for. It works usually, but there are times that it won't find anything. Is there a way to figure out if it finds nothing, and then end the function because otherwise it stops the entire code. I tried jsonp, but that didn't seem to be correct. Somewhere I read that error catching is built into the newest jQuery getJSON, but I couldn't find it. The code is really tedious so I'd rather not post it unless it comes to that.   I have a question about XSS Can forms be used as a vector for XSS even if the data is not stored in the database and used at a later point? i.e. in php the code would be this: <form input="text" value="<?= @$_POST['my_field'] ?>" name='my_field'> Showing an alert box (demonstrate that JS can be run) on your own browser is trivial with the code above. But is this exploitable across browsers as well? The only scenario I see is where you trick someone into visiting a certain page, i.e. a combination of CSRF and XSS. "Stored in a database and used at a later point": the scenario I understand about CSS is where you're able to post data to a site that runs JavaScript and is shown on a page in a browser that has greater/different privileges than your own. But, to be clear, this is not wat I'm talking about above.

  I'm just getting started with ASP.NET MVC. I'm going to be using JQuery on the website I'm making, but I'm not really sure about one thing: where would JQuery code be placed? This concerns two things: Where do I import the JQuery JavaScript file? (I've been thinking that the Master page would be a good place to do this; am I right, or do I have to import it in each view?) Should all my JQuery code be referenced from the Master page (i.e., I store my code that uses JQuery in a separate .js file and reference it in a <script> tag)? Thanks in advance.

• Using multiple SWF Object - Flash doesn't focus on rollover

  I've got a page with multiple embeds of Flash objects, including dynamically created graphs. I'm including them all with SWF Object JS declared in the header. It works fine in the fact that all are loaded. But, for some reason when you move down on the page (so they're out of view) and back, or click on another object it no longer has focus when you're rolling over. I.e. I have a flash menu that moves on rollover. When you go down the page, click on something, then go back up it no longer response to rollover. I've seen bits on here and elsewhere about losing focus in Firefox (which is the browser Im using - i havent managed to find this bug in IE) but it's talking about literally not being able to type or whatever, when you click on it. This is on rollover. Has anyone got any advice or thoughts on this subject?

• If you delete a DOM element, do any events that started with that element continue to bubble?

  What behavior should I expect if I delete a DOM element that was used to start an event bubble, or whose child started the event bubble - will it continue to bubble if the element is removed? For example - lets say you have a table, and want to detect click events on the table cells. Another piece of JS has executed an AJAX request that will eventually replace the table, in full, once the request is complete. What happens if I click the table, and immediately after the table gets replaced by a successful completion of an AJAX request? I ask because I am seeing some behavior where the click events don't seem to be bubbling - but it is hard to duplicate. I am watching the event on a parent element of the table (instead of attaching the event to every TD), and it just doesn't seem to reach it sometimes.

As far as I understand I need to create some JS script to prepopulate it. Unfortunately I don't have this experience, and I would like to keep things simple as it possible and don't rewrite all Django admin interface. Just add this functionality for one Field. • JavaScript: 2 window.opener.location.href statements with alert() in between not functioning

  I need to make a little JS app to scroll automatically through a list of URLs. I've chosen to have the functionality in a pop-up, for various reasons. The syntax to change the opening window's URL is: window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example.com"; This works fine with one URL, but if two statements are called, only one is executed. I experimented with an alert statement between two of the above statements, and the alert event made the second statement function properly: window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example1.com"; alert("hello world"); window.opener.location.href = "http://www.example2.com"; Question is: does anyone know how to get the first and second window.opener statements to work, without the intervening alert();? Also, how can I add a pause between the two statements, so that the second executes a couple of seconds after the first? Thanks so much!

  I want to have a tooltip hover highlight thingy in jqplot. The problem is that I want it to give more detail then on the axes. So the formatter should be different. I can't get it to display the seconds to: There's a JS fidle here! I want the timestamp to display as hours:minutes:seconds, which would be format string '%H:%M:%S' or '%T' or '%X'. • codeigniter form validation if failed send user back

  i have this controller(visits.php) that use 3 models to build page, then it pass 4 vars to a view. this view contain a form that submit to another page (add_user.php) my question is how can i send the user back to visits.php in case the for_validation is false ? do i have to reload visits.php allover again ?-waste of resourss- or i should just send him back in history with js or php header for example ? can u plz show me an example of how u best handle false result of form_validation ? • Email form isn't sending

  Hi I have an email form that isn't sending out an email to the recipient or a copy to the client. The form can be found at www.kelcos.co.uk/contact and the files associated with this are: /index.php /jquery.js /sendemail.php /submitform.php /thanks.php /verify.php I have used this form on other websites http://www.bowlesgreen.co.uk/contact/ and http://www.arbortectreecare.co.uk/contact/ and it works fine - the only difference is that these other sites use my usual hosting provider and for the one that won't send I'm working through the clients hosting provider, which I can only presume is what is causing the problem. I have contacted the hosting and so far we have eliminated a few things such as: 'The limitation to our systems is that the emails sent using scripts will be blocked if they are not going to or coming from an email address setup on the web hosting account. - so I am now sending the form to an a kelcos.co.uk address, but still no joy. PHP/ASP was originally disabled, but now has been activated the mail() script is enabled I would really appreciated any advise any of you could offer. Thanks

• restful way for deleting a bunch of items

  In wiki article for REST it is indicated that if you use http://example.com/resources DELETE, that means you are deleting the entire collection. If you use http://example.com/resources/7HOU57Y DELETE, that means you are deleting that element. I am doing a WEBSITE, note NOT WEB SERVICE. I have a list that has 1 checkbox for each item on the list. Once i select multiple items for deletion, i will allow users to press a button called DELETE SELECTION. If user presses the button, a js dialog box will popup asking user to confirm the deletion. if user confirms, all the items are deleted. So how should i cater for deleting multiple items in a RESTFUL way? NOTE, currently for DELETE in a webpage, what i do is i use FORM tag with POST as action but include a _method with the value DELETE since this is what was indicated by others in SO on how to do RESTful delete for webpage.

• Why does dojo parsing time depend on css and images availability?

  I have been profiling javascript on my page that uses dojo widgets. I don't use explicit parsing - the parser runs on page load. What I noticed is that if I clear browser cache before refreshing the page, dojo parsing takes much more time than if all the files are already cached. Note that we build all the required dojo modules into a layer (a single file), so we don't lazy-load any js files. I wonder if dojo parsing process depends on images and css resources, as far as I know it only instantiates widgets and injects dom nodes. Do you have any ideas why dojo parser runs longer (2-3 times longer in my case) when the cache is cleared?
