• Adding an expression based image in a client report definition file (RDLC)

  In previous posts, I showed you how to create a report using Visual Studio 2010 and how to add a hyperlink to the report.  In this post, I show you how to add an expression based image to each row of the report. This similar to displaying a checkbox column for Boolean values.  A sample project is attached to the bottom of this post. To start off, download the project we created earlier from here.  The report we created had a “Discontinued” column of type Boolean. We are going to change it to display an “available” icon or “unavailable” icon based on the “Discontinued” row value.    Load the project and double click on Products.rdlc. With the report design surface active, you will see the “Report Data” tool window. Right click on the Images folder and select “Add Image..”   Add the available_icon.png and discontinued_icon.png images (the sample project at the end of this post has the icon png files)    You can see the images we added in the “Report Data” tool window.   Drag and drop the available_icon into the “Discontinued” column row (not the header) We get a dialog box which allows us to set the image properties. We will add an expression that specifies the image to display based the “Discontinued” value from the Product table. Click on the expression (fx) button.   Add the following expression : = IIf(Fields!Discontinued.Value = True, “discontinued_icon”, “available_icon”)   Save and exit all dialog boxes. In the report design surface, resize the column header and change the text from “Discontinued” to “In Production”.   (Optional) Right click on the image cell (not header) , go to “Image Properties..” and offset it by 5pt from the left. (Optional) Change the border color since it is not set by default for image columns. We are done adding our image column! Compile the application and run it. You will see that the “In Production” column has red ‘x’ icons for discontinued products. • Binding multiple events in jQuery

  I have a custom jQuery plugin which binds a change event to a form element, in this case some input elements. The change event is used to indicate to some other components that a change has taken place. This works as it should. However, I've come across the need to bind an additional change event to the same input elements -- so that additional components can act on the event. I don't wish to replace the plugin's change, simply run an additional function afterwards. Is there any way to bind multiple events in jQuery, or, what is the best method for accomplishing this?

• How to install Eclipse in Ubuntu 12.04?

  I downloaded the Eclipse setup from their homepage. And I followed the instructions on this page. But I couldn't able to follow the last instruction, which ask me to do so : /opt/eclipse/eclipse -clean If do so, I get an error message like this : sudo: /opt/eclipse/eclipse: command not found But notably I can see the Eclipse Icon on my Dash Home (if I search for "Eclipse"). But clicking on that icon doesn't open the IDE. Where I'm making the mistake? And also running this command in terminal : eclipse throws this output: /usr/bin/eclipse: 5: /usr/bin/eclipse: /opt/eclipse/eclipse: Permission denied Thanks in advance.

• Ardour wont start Jack problem

  I downloaded Ardour yesterday, it worked, edited an audio file done. Come back today it wont start I get this: Ardour could not start JACK There are several possible reasons: 1) You requested audio parameters that are not supported.. 2) JACK is running as another user. Please consider the possibilities, and perhaps try different parameters. So I try and look at qjackctl to see what happening there. When I try to start JACK I get D-BUS: JACK server could not be started. then Could not connect to JACK server as client. - Overall operation failed. - Unable to connect to server. • Wrong perspective is showing in Eclipse plugin project [closed]

  I am working in Eclipse Modeling Framework (Eclipse plugin development) in my project the tool(project i am working) provides three perspectives. 1.Accelerator Analyst perspective 2.Contract Validation and 3.Underwriter rules Editor... By default it starts with Contract validation perspective (As we define it within the plugin_customization.ini). However after switching to other perspective does not change the perspective shown... As all perspective (Class, Id and Name) is define only inside Plugin.XML as it is the task of org.eclipse.ui.perspective that that perspective name should be come forefront. Out of 10 7 times it is working fine but I am not getting why this is not working in that 3 cases. • Enable Thumbnail Previews for Firefox in Windows 7 Taskbar

  Are you tired of waiting for the official activation of Taskbar Thumbnail Previews in Firefox? See how easy it is to enable them now with a simple about:config hack. Note: We have briefly covered this before but present it here in a more detailed format. Before For our example we opened all of the websites in the HTG Network in tabs… When hovering over the Firefox Icon in the Taskbar, you only see the one thumbnail. There are two things in particular to notice here: 1.) The Tab Bar for Firefox is displayed with all four tabs visible in the Thumbnail Preview  2.) The “Taskbar Icon” itself is displaying as singular with no “fanned edge” on the right side. Hack the About:Config Settings To get the Thumbnail Previews working you will need to make a modification in the about:config settings. Type about:config in the Address Bar and press Enter. Unless you have previously disabled the warning you will see this message after pressing Enter. Click on the I promise! Button to finish entering the settings. In the Filter Address Bar either type or copy and paste the following about:config entry: browser.taskbar.previews.enable After you enter that in, you should see the entry listing as shown here. At this point there are two methods that you can choose to alter the entry. The first method is to right click on the entry and select Toggle and the second method is to double click on the entry. Both work equally well…choose the method that you like best. Once the about:config entry has been changed, you will need to restart Firefox for it to take effect. After restarting Firefox on our system the Thumbnail Previews were definitely looking very nice. Notice that the Tab Bar is no longer displayed in the Thumbnail Previews. The Taskbar Icon also had a “fanned edge” indicating that multiple tabs were open. Conclusion If you are tired of waiting for Mozilla to officially activate Taskbar Thumbnail Previews in Firefox, then you can go ahead and start enjoying them now. • SQL SERVER – SmallDateTime and Precision – A Continuous Confusion

  Some kinds of confusion never go away. Here is one of the ancient confusing things in SQL. The precision of the SmallDateTime is one concept that confuses a lot of people, proven by the many messages I receive everyday relating to this subject. Let me start with the question: What is the precision of the SMALLDATETIME datatypes? What is your answer? Write it down on your notepad. Now if you do not want to continue reading the blog post, head to my previous blog post over here: SQL SERVER – Precision of SMALLDATETIME. A Social Media Question Since the increase of social media conversations, I noticed that the amount of the comments I receive on this blog is a bit staggering. I receive lots of questions on facebook, twitter or Google+. One of the very interesting questions yesterday was asked on Facebook by Raghavendra. I am re-organizing his script and asking all of the questions he has asked me. Let us see if we could help him with his question: CREATE TABLE #temp (name VARCHAR(100),registered smalldatetime) GO DECLARE @test smalldatetime SET @test=GETDATE() INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value1',@test) INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value2',@test) GO SELECT * FROM #temp ORDER BY registered DESC GO DROP TABLE #temp GO Now when the above script is ran, we will get the following result: Well, the expectation of the query was to have the following result. The row which was inserted last was expected to return as first row in result set as the ORDER BY descending. Side note: Because the requirement is to get the latest data, we can’t use any  column other than smalldatetime column in order by. If we use name column in the order by, we will get an incorrect result as it can be any name. My Initial Reaction My initial reaction was as follows: 1) DataType DateTime2: If file precision of the column is expected from the column which store date and time, it should not be smalldatetime. The precision of the column smalldatetime is One Minute (Read Here) for finer precision use DateTime or DateTime2 data type. Here is the code which includes above suggestion: CREATE TABLE #temp (name VARCHAR(100), registered datetime2) GO DECLARE @test datetime2 SET @test=GETDATE() INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value1',@test) INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value2',@test) GO SELECT * FROM #temp ORDER BY registered DESC GO DROP TABLE #temp GO 2) Tie Breaker Identity: There are always possibilities that two rows were inserted at the same time. In that case, you may need a tie breaker. If you have an increasing identity column, you can use that as a tie breaker as well. CREATE TABLE #temp (ID INT IDENTITY(1,1), name VARCHAR(100),registered datetime2) GO DECLARE @test datetime2 SET @test=GETDATE() INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value1',@test) INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value2',@test) GO SELECT * FROM #temp ORDER BY ID DESC GO DROP TABLE #temp GO Those two were the quick suggestions I provided. It is not necessary that you should use both advices. It is possible that one can use only DATETIME datatype or Identity column can have datatype of BIGINT or have another tie breaker. An Alternate NO Solution In the facebook thread this was also discussed as one of the solutions: CREATE TABLE #temp (name VARCHAR(100),registered smalldatetime) GO DECLARE @test smalldatetime SET @test=GETDATE() INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value1',@test) INSERT INTO #temp VALUES ('Value2',@test) GO SELECT name, registered, ROW_NUMBER() OVER(ORDER BY registered DESC) AS "Row Number" FROM #temp ORDER BY 3 DESC GO DROP TABLE #temp GO However, I believe it is not the solution and can be further misleading if used in a production server. You will notice that an index which is created on the base table which is (indeed) schema change the table but can affect the resultset. As you can see, an index can change the resultset, so this method is not yet perfect to get the latest inserted resultset. No Schema Change Requirement After giving these two suggestions, I was waiting for the feedback of the asker. However, the requirement of the asker was there can’t be any schema change because the application was used by many other applications. I validated again, and of course, the requirement is no schema change at all. No addition of the column of change of datatypes of any other columns. There is no further help as well. This is indeed an interesting question. I personally can’t think of any solution which I could provide him given the requirement of no schema change. Can you think of any other solution to this? Need of Database Designer This question once again brings up another ancient question:  “Do we need a database designer?” I often come across databases which are facing major performance problems or have redundant data. Normalization is often ignored when a database is built fast under a very tight deadline. Often I come across a database which has table with unnecessary columns and performance problems. While working as Developer Lead in my earlier jobs, I have seen developers adding columns to tables without anybody’s consent and retrieving them as SELECT *.  There is a lot to discuss on this subject in detail, but for now, let’s discuss the question first. Do you have any suggestions for the above question? • No anti-aliasing with Xmonad

  I'm looking into Xmonad. One problem I'm having is that most of my applications in Xmonad don't have anti-aliasing. For example gnome-terminal & evolution. • Mount drives at `/drivename` from nautilus

  I want to mount my other drives (mostly ntfs and fat) on /drivename by clicking on the drive icon in the nautilus side pane, where "drivename" refers to the label of the drive. By default nautilus (actually the udisks program) mounts drives in /media/ folder with drive name. How can I achieve this?. Note: Please do not suggest doing this by editing /etc/fstab file. I want this feature in nautilus and after clicking the drive should also be seen in the side pane. (should not be hidden). Edit: Seems to be some have misunderstood this. I don't want to mount in / but as /Main, where "Main" is the label of my ntfs partition. To make it clear, suppose I have two partitions named as "Work" and "Main". I want them to mount at /Work and /Main respectively, when clicked on their icon in nautilus

• Override colorscheme

  I often find myself wanting to change just something little in a colorscheme, but i don't want to edit the original file. I tried putting my change in '~/.vim/after/colors/blah.vim', but that doesn't work for me. Example, I want to change the CursorLine highlight in BusyBee.vim.. ~/.vim/colors/BusyBee.vim I create the file '~/.vim/after/colors/BusyBee.vim' and add this: hi CursorLine guibg=#000000 ctermbg=Black cterm=none However, i don't see the change. Of course it works if i change the line in the originial BusyBee.vim, but like i said i'd prefer not to do that. Doing... :colo Busy<TAB> Shows me... BusyBee BusyBee

• How to Disable the New Geolocation Feature in Google Chrome

  The latest release of Google Chrome has geolocation enabled by default, and if you are worried about privacy or just don’t want websites to prompt you for your location, we’ve got the quick details on how to turn it off. Readers should note that the new Geolocation feature doesn’t give out your details by default, so don’t panic. It’s also only active, at the time of this writing, in the Dev channel builds of Chrome—so if you are using the regular stable build this feature won’t arrive for a while anyway. Note: If you’re a Firefox user, be sure to check out our guide to disabling geolocation in Firefox 3.x. What’s this Geolocation Feature About? Geolocation is a way for your browser to tell a website about your physical location, so you can get results tailored to where you actually are—for example, if you visited Google Maps it can ask you for your location to give you an accurate picture of where you are. To use this feature in Google Maps, you would click on the small white icon to activate the feature. As soon as you have clicked on the small white icon, a thin green toolbar will appear at the top of the webpage, asking to Allow or Deny.   How to Turn Chrome’s Geolocation Off If you want to turn geolocation off you will need to open the “Chrome Options Window”, navigate to the third tab, and click on the “Content settings… ” button. When the “Content Settings Window” opens go to the “Location Tab” and select “Do not allow any site to track my physical location”. Once that is done close out the “Content Settings & Chrome Options Windows”. When you go back to Google Maps and try using the small white icon again this is the message that you will see at the top of the page. Now that is much better! If you are unhappy with geolocation being enabled by default in the latest Dev Channel release then this will help get the problem sorted out nicely. I want return success only if both the transactions succeeds. Say if password change succeeds and unlock fails i cannot send success or failure. So i want to create a rollback point before password change, if both queries executes successfully i will commit the transaction. If one of the query fails i will discard the changes by rolling back to the rollback point. I am doing this in C++ using ADO. • scale mode window on same workspace (ubuntu 12.04)

  I have recently upgraded from ubuntu 11.10 to ubuntu 12.04. Generally in unity if we open several interface of an application then we can switch them by double clicking the icon of the application on unity panel. It shows the opened application's multiple interface in scale mode. But ubuntu 12.04 does not show the windows of different workspace in scale mode. If i open three nautilus, two in same and one in different workspace then click on icon show two interface (which workspace contains two). That's means it only shows current workspace's application's interface. Is it a bug or feature of ubuntu 12.04? Is there any way to fix it?

• Installed Ubuntu in VMware Player, Black side bars / broken GUI

  I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 in VMware Player and have came up with a black sidebar, missing icons, a pretty broken GUI. Everything works just fine though. I am able to run Firefox and open termainal and all that good stuff just fine, it's just that I can SEE them on the sidebar. I have to open up a seperate window on Windows with a picture of the Ubuntu 12.10 desktop in order for me to know what to click on, but once I do click on it, it's pretty much smooth sailing from there(not counting closing Firefox and several other things). Again, everything works just fine, but when it comes to the sidebar, the GUI, the dashboard (get a completely black screen for when I open dash board), they come up as completely black, broken (visual tears and what not), and hoving over them just brings up a big black bar (assuming it's the "zooming" in of the icon, but it just shows a black bar of where the icon should be). I'm not exactly sure what so do to get this to work (to fix the GUI), any ideas as to what I may do to fix this?

• Desktop shortcut to create a new desktop shortcut doesn't do anything

  It's weird that creating desktop shortcuts is currently so primitive. I found the following: Create Shortcut / launcher on Desktop in Ubuntu 12.04 That helps. However, if there's something wrong with the shortcut, it just doesn't do anything. For instance, I tried to create a shortcut for this command line to create a shortcut. When I double-click it, it just does nothing. This is the resulting text of my "Create Desktop Shortcut.desktop" file on the desktop: [Desktop Entry] Version=1.0 Type=Application Terminal=false Icon[en_CA]=gnome-panel-launcher Exec=/usr/bin/gnome-desktop-item-edit ~/Desktop/ --create-new Name[en_CA]=Create Desktop Shortcut Name=Create Desktop Shortcut Icon=gnome-panel-launcher As I said, when I double-click this, or right-click it and select Open, nothing happens. Is there a log file where something about this would be written to?

• Can CSS be copyrighted?

  I know CSS on a website is protected under the website's copyright since it is considered part of the overall design. I also know that images used inCSS are copyrightable. How about when CSS is used to create images? There is a CSS3 icon set that has a $25 license fee. Another developer claims those images to be copyrighted and that it is illegal to use any of the icons unless you pay the fee. I say you cannot copyright a chunk of code and if I recreate an arrow or disc icon in my CSS (whether I copy his code or write my own) he has no recourse. Can CSS, by itself, be copyrighted?

  I've upgraded from Ubuntu 13.04 to Ubuntu 13.10, then ibus-avro for Bengali is not working. I've tried to reinstall ibus but no success. ibus-avro Icon is showing but not sure whats the problem. It should be working like this... The icon on top is showing properly, but it's not working. May be there are some communication problem. So currently after upgrade it's like this... As we can see the Bangla text is not appearing... • BizTalk 2009 - Creating a Custom Functoid Library

  If you find that you have a need to created multiple Custom Functoids you may also choose to create a Custom Functoid Library - a single project containing many custom functoids.  As previsouly discussed, the Custom Functoid Wizard can be used to create a project with a new custom functoid inside.  But what if you want to extend this project to include more custom functoids and create your Custom Functoid Library?  First create a Custom Functoid Library project and your first Custom Functoid using the Custom Functoid Wizard. When you open your Custom Functoid Library project in Visual Studio you will see that it contains your custom functoid class file along with its resource file.  One of the items this resource file contains is the ID of the the custom functoid.  Each custom functoid needs a unique ID that is over 6000.  When creating a Custom Functoid Library I would first suggest that you delete the ID from this resource file and instead create a _FunctoidIDs class containing constants for each of your custom functoids.  In this way you can easily see which custom functoid IDs are assigned to which custom functoid and which ID is next in the sequence of availability: namespace MyCompany.BizTalk.Functoids.TestFunctoids {     class _FunctoidIDs     {         public const int TestFunctoid                       = 6001;     } } You will then need to update the base() function in your existing functoid class to reference these constant values rather than the current resource file. From:    int functoidID;    // This has to be a number greater than 6000    functoidID = System.Convert.ToInt32(resmgr.GetString("FunctoidId"));    this.ID = functoidID; To: this.ID = _FunctoidIDs.TestFunctoid; To create a new custom functoid you can copy the existing custom functoid, renaming the resultant class file as appropriate.  Once it is renamed you will need to change the Class name, ResourceName reference and Base function name in the class code to those of your new custom functoid.  You will also need to create a new constant value in the _FunctoidIDs class and update the ID reference in your code to match this.  Assuming that you need some different functionalty from your new  customfunctoid you will need to check or amend the following in your functoid class file: Min and Max connections Functoid Category Input and Output connection types The parameters and functionality of the Execute function To change the appearance of you new custom functoid you will need to check or amend the following in the functoid resource file: Name Description Tooltip Exception Icon You can change the String values by double clicking the resource file and amending the value fields in the string table. To amend the functoid icon you will need to create a 16x16 bitmap image.  Once you have saved this you are then ready to import it into the functoid resource file.  In Visual Studio change the resource view to images, right click the icon and choose import from file. You have now completed your new custom functoid and created a Custom Functoid Library.  You can test your new library of functoids by building the project, copying the resultant DLL to C:\Program Files\Microsoft BizTalk Server 2009\Developer Tools\Mapper Extensions and then resetting the toolbox in Visual Studio.

It comes in the form of an .jar file and i want to create a menu entry for it. How would i write such a .desktop file? • Missed environment variables in Eclipse Juno

  I recently moved from Eclipse Indigo to Juno. I installed the IDE in my Ubuntu 12.04 by downloading the archive from here. Then I created an entry in the unity launcher for Juno as I done before for Indigo. Here is what I wrote in ~/.local/share/applications/eclipse-juno.desktop: [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Name=Eclipse Juno Comment=Eclipse Integrated Developmentm Environment Icon=~/.eclipse-juno/icon.xpm Exec=~/.eclipse-juno/eclipse -vmargs -Duser.name="my name" Terminal=false Categories=Development;IDE;Java; When I run eclipse from the unity launcher, eclipse does not see environment variables that I set in ~/.bascrc.
