  I've had a very colorful morning learning the innerparts of Linux's sort command, and have come across yet another issue that I can't seem to find an answer for in the documentation. I'm currently using -t, to indicate that my fields are split by the comma character, but I'm finding that in some of my files, the comma is used (between double-quotes) within values: Jonathan Sampson,,[email protected],0987654321 "Foobar CEO,","CEO,",[email protected],, How can I use a comma to terminate my fields, but ignore the occurences of it within values? Is this fairly simple, or do I need to re-export all of my data using a more-foreign field-terminator?

• How to save a large nhibernate collection without causing OutOfMemoryException

  How do I save a large collection with NHibernate which has elements that surpass the amount of memory allowed for the process? I am trying to save a Video object with nhibernate which has a large number of Screenshots (see below for code). Each Screenshot contains a byte[], so after nhibernate tries to save 10,000 or so records at once, an OutOfMemoryException is thrown. Normally I would try to break up the save and flush the session after every 500 or so records, but in this case, I need to save the collection because it automatically saves the SortOrder and VideoId for me (without the Screenshot having to know that it was a part of a Video). What is the best approach given my situation? Is there a way to break up this save without forcing the Screenshot to have knowledge of its parent Video? • Are there any good apps for managing vCard vcf files?

  I've just got an Android handset and the import of the SIM contacts from my old phone has left them in a mess; lack of capitalisation, funny character substitutions, odd delimiters etc. I have exported the contacts list as a vcf and while I could manually edit this file, I was really after a desktop app that could do formatting, search & replace etc. There are Android apps that do this but, as much as I like the phone's UI, the prospect of sorting hundreds of contacts via it doesn't exactly fill me with joy. A quick Google just threw up lots of questionable download sites, hoping someone can suggest a lightweight alternative

• In Ubuntu, how do I change my default Greek font?

  I'm taking a course in ancient Greek, and I store notes and flash cards on my computer. However, by default Ubuntu uses a modern Greek font. This changes some noticable things--for example, a circumflex is ? instead of a?. I can type the circumflex by switching back to english and entering the unicode combining character u0311 (which is what I just did to type the second a), but obviously this is very cumbersome. I've installed the "ttf-linex" package from the Ubuntu repositories, which claims to include an ancient Greek font. But I have no idea how to enable this font for whenever I switch to the Greek keyboard layout.

• Inverted question mark only on Microsoft Office applications

  My dad has a notebook and the key which has the "/?°" symbols acts like ctrl. Known factory problem. Anyway, his keyboard also has a "?" marked under the "w" key. Pressing "ctrl + alt + w" will display the "?" character (question, interrogation mark). Except on Office applications, like Word and Outlook, which will output "¿". I've searched Word and Outlook menus looking for a parameter that could be, somehow, remapping the notebooks keyboards, applying different regional configurations, language, or encodings. Since it only happens on Office apps, I believe the solution is within its options, but I was unable to find it where. Pressing "ctrl + alt gr + w" will display ? correctly, but I am stumped by this problem. I could remap the keys and make "/?° behave correctly, but my curiosity now is eating me alive. • Ruby, Rails & MySQL parity between Mac Client (10.6) & XServe (10.5)

  We're setting up a RoR setup with Development on Mac OS X Client (10.6.3) and then using a Mac OS X Server (10.5.8) for testing and eventually deployment. I'd like to get as many systems in sync on these machines as possible. Wondering if there are any pitfalls. I seem to understand what's necessary under Client but Server has some hardwired stuff that I want to make sure doesn't break...or is updated correctly. Currently installed on both machines we have: OS X Client (10.6.3): Ruby 1.8.7 Rails 2.3.5 MySQL (not installed yet) OS X Server (10.5.8): Ruby 1.8.6 Rails 2.3.5 MySQL Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.82 Any suggestions...Ideally from someone who's done this on Leopard Server as well but I'll listen to general tips & proceedures

• Building computer: Casing for peripheral sockets is a pain!

  I have a casing the covers the spacing between the peripheral socket which is standard to have when you buy a motherboard. My problem with these covers is that they have spokes that pushes the motherboard away so the sockets don't even come out of the covers. This also misaligns the screws on my atx motherboard with the holes in my computer case. I usually break these spokes so that i can align my motherboard correctly. Why the heck do motherboard manufacture put spokes on these covers? am i using them wrong?   What formatting character needs to be added to a bash prompt to indicate the most recent history item run (or the current command number if 1 could be added to the last history entry)? My prompt string is this: \[\033[33m\][\u@\[\033[1;31m\]\h]\]\033[0m {\W}\n\033[1;34m\]\w\]\033[0m > Gives me the following display: [user@host] {~} ~ > User is in yellow, and the host is in red. The entry in brackets is the current directory, and the entry before the greater-than sign is the full pwd. Can I append to the first line the current command number so I would have something like the following: [user@host] {~} (nnn) ~ > where (nnn) is the current (or just processed) command number, as shown when running history?

  A few newbie Mac OS X questions: Despite the fact that most applications can be installed by dragging them to the Applications directory, some software still requires the creation of a separate program folder. Where should I put this folder? Does it matter? Is the Applications directory special somehow, or is it just a convenient folder with a custom icon? If I move one of these program folders later on, will the program still work? Will shortcuts to files in the folder break? Is there something similar to a registry in Mac OS X?

  I'm getting the above mentioned error when backing up with ZRM, which is using mysqldump for backup. mysqldump --opt --extended-insert --single-transaction --create-options --default-character-set=utf8 --user=" " -p --all-databases "/nfs/backup/mysql01/dailyrun/20091216043001/backup.sql" mysqldump: Error 2020: Got packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes when dumping table TICKET_ATTACHMENT at row: 2286 I have increased the size for 'max_allowed_packet' to be 1G in /etc/my.cnf which is the server setting and for the client side setting I've set it by running this command: mysql -u -p --max_allowed_packet=1G And I have verified that on the client and server side they are of the same value. This is to check the client side value according to this forum posting http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?35,75794,261640 mysql SELECT @@MAX_ALLOWED_PACKET - ; +----------------------+ | @@MAX_ALLOWED_PACKET | +----------------------+ | 1073741824 | +----------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) And this is the check the server value setting. mysql SHOW VARIABLES | max_allowed_packet | 1073741824 | I have ran out of ideas, and tried searching within expert exchange and googling for solutions but so far none has worked. However, I have the following two problems: If I try to implement a double click event for richTextBox1, I can detect when a word is clicked, however that word is highlighted (selected), which I'd like to avoid. I can deselect it programmatically by selecting the end of the text, but that causes a flicker, which I would like to avoid. What ways are there to do this? The GetCharIndexFromPosition method returns the index of the character that is closest to the cursor. This means that if the only thing my RichTextBox contains is a word starting with a # then the cursor will be a hand no matter where on the rich text control it is. How can I make it so that it is only a hand when it hovers over an actual word or character that is part of a word I'm interested in? The implemented URL detection also partially suffers from this problem. If I enable detection of URLs and only write www.test.com in the rich text editor, the cursor will be a hand as long as it is on or below the link. It will not be a hand if it's to the right of the link however. I'm fine even with this functionality if making the cursor a hand if and only if it's on the text proves to be too difficult. I'm guessing I'll have to resort to some sort of Windows API calls, but I don't really know where to start. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I would like to implement this myself. Update: The flickering problem would be solved if I could make it so that no text is selectable through double clicking, only through dragging the mouse cursor. Is this easier to achieve? Because I don't really care if one can select text or not by double clicking in this case.

  Will changing the computer name on which SQL Server 2008 is installed on affect SQL Server in anyway? Or will changing the computer name be transparent to SQL Server? For example: I plan to install Windows 2008 Server and naming it "BobStage". Next I will install SQL Server 2008 R2 and restore a few DB's. Finally I plan to rename the windows machine to "BobLive". Will me renaming the computer's name affect SQL Server's instance ID/name and possibly break something?

• Mercurial "hg clone" on Windows via ssh with plink issue

  I have a Windows Server 2008 machine (iis7) that has CopSSH set up on it. To connect to it, I have a Windows 7 machine with Mercurial 1.5.1 (and TortoiseHg) installed. I can connect to the server using PuTTY with a non-standard ssh port and a .ppk file just fine. So I know the server can be SSH'd into. Next, I wanted to use the CLI to connect via hg clone to get a private repo. I've seen elsewhere that you need to have ssh configured in your mercurial.ini file, so my mercurial.ini has a line: ssh = plink.exe -ssh -C -l username -P #### -i "C:/Program Files/PuTTY/Key Files/KyleKey.ppk" Note: username is filled in with the username I set up via copSSH. #### is filled in with the non-standard ssh port I've defined for copSSH. I try to do the command hg clone ssh://inthom.com but I get this error: remote: bash: inthom.com: command not found abort: no suitable response from remote hg! It looks like hg or plink parses the hostname such that it thinks that inthom.com is a command instead of the server to ssh to. That's really odd. Next, I tried to just use plink to connect by plink -P #### ssh://inthom.com, and I am then prompted for my username, and next password. I enter them both and then I get this error: bash: ssh://inthom.com: No such file or directory So now it looks like plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly. I fiddled around for a while trying to figure out how to do call hg clone with an empty ssh:// field and eventually figured out that this command allows me to reach the server and clone a test repo on the inthom.com server: hg clone ssh://!/Repos/test ! is the character I've found that let's me leave the hostname blank, but specify the repo folder to clone. What I really don't understand is how plink knows what server to ssh to at all. neither my mercurial.ini nor the command specify a server. None of the hg clone examples I've seen have a ! character. They all use an address, which makes sense, so you can connect to any repo via ssh that you want to clone. My only guess is that it somehow defaults to the last server I used PuTTY to SSH to, but I SSH'd into another server, and then tried to use plink to get to it, but plink still defaults to inthom.com (verified with the -v arg to plink). So I am at a loss as to how plink gets this server value at all. For "fun", I tried using TortoiseHg and can only clone a repo when I use ssh://!/Repos/test as the Source. Now, you can see that, since plink doesn't parse the hostname correctly, I had to specify the port number and username in the mercurial.ini file, instead of in the hostname like [email protected]:#### like you'd expect to. Trying to figure this out at first drove me insane, because I would get errors that the host couldn't be reached, which I knew shouldn't be the case. My question is how can I configure my setup so that ssh://[email protected]:####/Repos/test is parsed correctly as the username, hostname, port number, and repo to copy? Is it something wrong with the version of plink that I'm using, or is there some setting I may have messed up? If it is plink's fault, is there an alternative tool I can use? I'm going to try to get my friend set up to connect to this same repo, so I'd like to have a clean solution instead of this ! business. Especially when I have no idea how plink gets this default server, so I'm not sure if he'd even be able to get to inthom.com correctly. PS. I've had to use a ton of different tutorials to even get to this stage. Therefore, I haven't tried pushing any changes to the server yet. Hopefully I'll get this figured out and then I can try pushing changes to the repo.

• FortiGate firewall configuration with /30 and /28 networks

  I have fiber coming in from a new ISP which is being handed off via Ethernet on a single physical port. I'm having doubts about how to approach the configuration on my FortiGate 200A firewall because I've been given a /30 containing the ISP's gateway and another /28 for external IPs I can use: x.y.76.12/30 (.13 is the GW) x.y.76.64/28 (public IP space) How do I configure the FG200A's WAN1 interface to be aware of the two networks? As I only have one physical ISP port, will I need to plug it into a switch to break-out two cables and use a DMZ port on the FG200A for setting up the /28? Thanks in advance for your insight!

His regular expression works, but needs extra code after detection is done. I've managed to write a regular expression that does everything in a single go. You can easily omit them if you'd like. Anyway. Here's what it does (referring to line numbers): 1 - detects if URL starts with open braces (is contained inside braces) and stores it in "outer" named capture group 2 - checks if it starts with URL scheme also detecting whether scheme is SSL or not 3 - starts parsing URL itself (will store it in "url" named capture group) 4-8 - if statement that says: if "sheme" was present then www. part is optional, otherwise mandatory for a string to be a link (so this regular expression detects all strings that start with either http or www) 9 - first character after http:// or www. should be either a letter or a number (this can be extended if you would like to cover even more links, but I've decided to omit other characters because I can't remember a link that would start with some other character 10-14 - if statement that says: if "outer" (braces) was present capture everything up to the last closing braces otherwise capture all 15 - closes the named capture group for URL 16 - if open braces was present, capture closing braces as well and store it in "ending" named capture group First and last line used to have \s* in them as well, so user could also write open braces and put a space inside before pasting link. Anyway. Question I would like for my links to be replaced with shortenings as well. So when user copies a very long links (for instance if they would copy a link from google maps that usually generates long links I would like to shorten the visible part of the anchor tag. Link would work, but visible part of an anchor tag would be shortened to some number of characters. Does the replace string support notations like that so I can stil use a singe Regex.Replace() call?

• How to disable or edit Google Chrome Developer Tools shortcut?

  There is a shortcut in the Google Chrome Developer Tools which happen to trigger every times I try to type the [ or ] character in the console. The shortcut in question probably is Alt+[, Alt+^ or [ and it moves the tabs (of the Chrome Developer Tools) to the last selected one. This shortcut is simply blocking me from typing the [ or ] in the console and I want to either disable it or edit it to something else. How can I edit or disable that shortcut ? Note : I'm not really using the shortcut in the developers tools, so if it's only possible to disable all shortcut it would be a viable solution.

• Hardware asset management systems

  I need to track a bunch of specialized testing tools, They are hardware devices used for testing other equipement. Each device has a serial number and is sent out for use in testing. Occasionally they break and have to be sent to the manufacture for repair. I'm looking for an open source application (preferably a webapp) to help manage them. Right now we're using Excel and it's not scaling as we get more tools. They aren't computers so all the standard IT asset management systems don't really fit the bill. I found h-harmony, but that project seems dead?

  I'm trying to install a fully virtualized guest (Fedora 14 x86_64) on KVM (RHEL 6), using command-line only (both hypervisor and guest). It goes without errors, and without a tangible result . I'd like to know how to do a text-only installation. • Asp.net hashing (using codesmith) when upgrading from .net 2.0 to 3.5

  Hi, I'm administrating servers running IIS 6, hosting a website on ASP.NET 2.0. Yesterday I installed .Net framework 3.5, and all my user authentication system was lost. Users can't log in, because their password arn't getting authenticated, maybe because the hash function has changed in 3.5??? I can't really get to the code, but I know it uses an extention called CodeSmith. Do you know of any break my upgrade the 3.5 ugrade could couse? Please help. Thanks.
