Virtualbox errors out when creating or opening VM

I installed Virtual-box about a week ago and now every time I either try to start a VM or create a new one I get the error listed below. I am in the vboxusers group. I completely uninstalled and re-installed the application without any change in the error. When I run the command below I receive "command not found". Then when I try to install dkms they systems says it is already installed. Right now I have removed the application and any files and would love to re-install the application again to get it working. I remove the application using: sudo apt-get remove virtualbox* --purge Any ideas? Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. How can I install Ubuntu's 10.10 kernel I Ubuntu 12.10?

I did use Ubuntu 10.10 for a long time, and now I replaced it with Ubuntu 12.10, every thing works great, but I do have one little problem, which is with my wireless card. On Ubuntu 10.10, it worked PERFECTLY, and it even worked better than in windows 7, so I was very happy with Ubuntu 10.10, but, like I said, after installing 12.10, my wireless card doesn't work any more, so I heard that KERNELS are the reason for that. Are kernels the reason for my wireless not working now? If yes then please teach me how to remove my current kernels and install 10.10 kernels. I went to -Additional Drivers- and i found something very weird i took picture and this is what it look like "apply changes" Button NOT active so i can't install driver :( anyway... my Wireless card is WL-138g v2 (remember on Ubuntu 10.10 it was WORKING 100% normally and FREE i did NOT pay for it driver) so... now what shall i do ? it is saying in picture // Using Non-Free firmware for linux kernel drivers from linux-firmware-nonfree (proprietary) // BTW i did "rfkill list" but NO-thing appear under that command.

Switching To Ubuntu 14.04 from Windows 8.1

everyone i am newto these linux stuffs. Currently i'm a user of Windows8.1 . When windows 8 was roling out i was like i'm never going to leave and will be always stick to windows8 but now i think it's time to switch linux because being in windows forever i don't think i can do something very good .I wanted to be OpenSource :) . So i really dont have any idea about linux . For me the best distro is Ubuntu and Kubuntu offcourse the latest release . So what i'm afraid of switching to linux is its compability .The compatibility i'm talking about is with the hardware's and driver's . For eg sometime after fresh install of windows we need to install the display,usb and wifi drivers to function . For some computer or brands those driver's are hard to find and i can't even think of linux how hard are they to find if it needs installing drivers. So my main question is that do i need to install the drivers for my wifi adapters display and some other stuffs or the distro i choosed i.e Ubuntu 14.0.4 consists of those dirvers and what about the 64 and 32bit . My machines is 64bit aso do i need to install the 64bit one . I mean i know the advantages of installing the 64 bit one but like windows is it kinda hard to find softwares for the 64 bit one . Or the 32 bit is recommended . And Yes I will be highly appreciated for the answers to my questions . Thank You :)

Very slow wireless connection (unrelated to power management) using Netgear N150 WNA1100 in 12.04

I am using a Netgear N150 WNA1100 USB Adapter. The network driver is: ath9k_htc. When I use Ubuntu 12.04 my wireless connection is much slower than when I use the WNA1100 with my Windows 7 installation on the same machine. I have been researching this and the most common reason for this seems to be related to power management. However for me this is off by default. I had entered a bunch of different commands and, at one stage, I got it to work at full power. But then I rebooted the machine and it went back to slow again. After entering the different commands I was afraid that I may have messed something up, so I performed a fresh install of Ubuntu. I still have the same problem. My wireless connection is still much slower when using Ubuntu than when using Windows 7. I am not sure what other info could help... EDIT: Ok, I have made live usb from the iso file I used to install Ubuntu on this pc, and ran it on my laptop. Still the same problem. However la[top works grand on cable. I suppose this means that my wireless adapter or network driver can be eliminated as root of the problem.. So maybe to do with router itself? I use ZyXEL P-660HW-D1

EHome IR receiver and Ubuntu 13 - any one have this working?

I have a "generic" USB IR receiver I purchased off of Ebay to make my life a little easier with XBMC on my Ubuntu box. I am currently running 13.10 and have never tried nor have any knowledge of IR in Ubuntu. I know of lirc, and I know a lot of it is now included in the kernel. My understanding is that lirc in basic terms maps pulses from an remote control to functions - like keyboard or mouse clicks. I need to install the library iodbc (depends on libodbc2) in my Quantal machine. Yet there is creepy dependency problem. This was replaced somehow by unixodbc which I don't have, installed. But I can not connect (but I am able to connect with other computers as well as with Dell XPS 17 under windows). External USB 3 drive not recognized

Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit seems not to recognize my external hard disk. It is a Vantec NST-310S3 external disk enclosure with a WD 3TB drive. The disk has two NTFS partitions. My PC is a dual boot system. Under Windows 7 the hard disk works fine but I can't make it work with Ubuntu. When the drive is connected to the PC then the command sudo fdisk -l seems to hang forever. First I have to say that I tried everything written about this concept. The problem is that it stops working randomly in 3 main forms : 1 - sometimes it disconnect from wireless network and reconnect automatically 2 - sometimes it disconnect and wont connect no matter what (needs reboot) 3 - some times it's still connected but cannot ping or surf or whatever. I already tried disabling N mod using these commands : sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 (or 0, whatever) it didn't help . these are the results of lspci, sudo lshw -C network, boot issues - long delay, then "gave up waiting for root device"

I've had this issue on and off for about two years now. I noticed it on a new (custom built) machine running 10.04 when that first came out, but then it went away until a few months ago. I've gone through a number of hard drive changes but I can't say specifically what if anything I changed hardware-wise to make it stop or start happening. I had assumed upgrading to a modern Ubuntu version would fix the issue, so I installed 12.04 beta on a spare partition last night, but it's still happening. Here's the issue. After grub loads and I select a kernel to boot, the screen goes blank save for a blinking cursor. It sits in this state for many long minutes before it finally gives up and gives me an initramfs shell with the message gave up waiting for root device (and lists the /dev/disk/by-uuid/... path it was waiting for) but no other specific diagnostic information. Now, here's the tricky part. For one, the problem is intermittent - sometimes it progresses from the blinking cursor to the Ubuntu splash boot screen in a few seconds, and once it gets that far it always continues booting fine. The really bizarre thing is that I can "force" it to "find" the root device by repeatedly pressing the space bar and hitting the machine's power button. If I tap those enough, eventually I will notice the hard drive light coming on, at which point it will always continue the boot process after a few seconds. Interestingly, if I wait slightly too long before pressing the power button (30s?), as soon as I press it I get the gave up waiting message and the initramfs shell. I've tried setting up /etc/fstab (and the grub menu.lst or whatever it's called nowadays) to use device names (e.g. /dev/sda1) instead of UUIDs, but I get the same effect just with the device name, not UUID, in the error message. I should also mention that when I boot to Windows 7, there is no issue. It boots slowly all the time just by virtue of being Windows, but it never hangs indefinitely. This would seem to indicate it's a problem in Ubuntu, not the hardware. It's pretty annoying to have to babysit the computer every time it boots. Any ideas? I'm at a loss. Atheros AR2413 wireless not working after shutdown

I am using a Ubuntu 11.04 on an Acer aspire 3680 laptop and my wifi is not working. My wifi wont work after I shutdown. Infact it didn't work after suspend but I rectified that problem by the following commands: Command 1: sudo rmmod -f ath_pci sudo rfkill unblock all sudo modprobe ath_pci along with the command SUSPEND_MODULES=ath_pci added to the /etc/pm/config.d/madwifi directory. So if I suspend and then on my laptop the wifi loads well and doesn't create a problem. But if I shutdown my laptop the wifi never loads again and eachtime I have to run a Ubuntu 9.04 live CD to load it. I did try adding the Command 1 to the /etc/rc.local directory but still it doesn't work. So my question is: What should I do in order to make my wireless work without having to run a live CD of ubuntu 9.04 everytime after shutdown? Thanks. Data Source Security Part 5

If you read through the first four parts of this series on data source security, you should be an expert on this focus area. There is one more small topic to cover related to WebLogic Resource permissions. After that comes the test, I mean example, to see with a real set of configuration parameters what the results are with some concrete values. WebLogic Resource Permissions All of the discussion so far has been about database credentials that are (eventually) used on the database side. WLS has resource credentials to control what WLS users are allowed to access JDBC resources. These can be defined on the Policies tab on the Security tab associated with the data source. There are four permissions: “reserve” (get a new connection), “admin”, “shrink”, and reset (plus the all-inclusive “ALL”); we will focus on “reserve” here because we are talking about getting connections. By default, JDBC resource permissions are completely open – anyone can do anything. As soon as you add one policy for a permission, then all other users are restricted. For example, if I add a policy so that “weblogic” can reserve a connection, then all other users will fail to reserve connections unless they are also explicitly added. The validation is done for WLS user credentials only, not database user credentials. Configuration of resources in general is described at “Create policies for resource instances” http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24329_01/apirefs.1211/e24401/taskhelp/security/CreatePoliciesForResourceInstances.html. This feature can be very useful to restrict what code and users can get to your database. There are the three use cases: API Use database credentials User for permission checking getConnection() True or false Current WLS user getConnection(user,password) False User/password from API getConnection(user,password) True Current WLS user If a simple getConnection() is used or database credentials are enabled, the current user that is authenticated to the WLS system is checked. If database credentials are not enabled, then the user and password on the API are used. Example The following is an actual example of the interactions between identity-based-connection-pooling-enabled, oracle-proxy-session, and use-database-credentials. On the database side, the following objects are configured.- Database users scott; jdbcqa; jdbcqa3- Permission for proxy: alter user jdbcqa3 grant connect through jdbcqa;- Permission for proxy: alter user jdbcqa grant connect through jdbcqa; The following WebLogic Data Source objects are configured.- Users weblogic, wluser- Credential mapping “weblogic” to “scott”- Credential mapping "wluser" to "jdbcqa3"- Data source descriptor configured with user “jdbcqa”- All tests are run with Set Client ID set to true (more about that below).- All tests are run with oracle-proxy-session set to false (more about that below). If this was not an Oracle thin driver, the one case with the non-null Proxy in the above table would throw an exception because proxy session is only supported, implicitly or explicitly, with the Oracle thin driver. When oracle-proxy-session is set to true, the only cases that will pass (with a proxy of "jdbcqa") are the following.1. Setting use-database-credentials to true and doing getConnection(jdbcqa3,…) or getConnection().2. Setting use-database-credentials to false and doing getConnection(wluser, …) or getConnection(). Summary There are many options to choose from for data source security. Considerations include the number and volatility of WLS and Database users, the granularity of data access, the depth of the security identity (property on the connection or a real user), performance, coordination of various components in the software stack, and driver capabilities. Now that you have the big picture (remember that table in part 1), you can make a more informed choice.

FairWarning® solutions have audited well over 120 billion events, each of which was processed and stored in a MySQL database. Extending Oracle CEP with Predictive Analytics

Introduction: OCEP is often used as a business rules engine to execute a set of business logic rules via CQL statements, and take decisions based on the outcome of those rules. There are times where configuring rules manually is sufficient because an application needs to deal with only a small and well-defined set of static rules. However, in many situations customers don't want to pre-define such rules for two reasons. First, they are dealing with events with lots of columns and manually crafting such rules for each column or a set of columns and combinations thereof is almost impossible. Second, they are content with probabilistic outcomes and do not care about 100% precision. The former is the case when a user is dealing with data with high dimensionality, the latter when an application can live with "false" positives as they can be discarded after further inspection, say by a Human Task component in a Business Process Management software. The primary goal of this blog post is to show how this can be achieved by combining OCEP with Oracle Data Mining® and leveraging the latter's rich set of algorithms and functionality to do predictive analytics in real time on streaming events. The secondary goal of this post is also to show how OCEP can be extended to invoke any arbitrary external computation in an RDBMS from within CEP. The extensible facility is known as the JDBC cartridge. The rest of the post describes the steps required to achieve this: We use the dataset available at http://blogs.oracle.com/datamining/2010/01/fraud_and_anomaly_detection_made_simple.html to showcase the capabilities. We use it to show how transaction anomalies or fraud can be detected. Building the model: Follow the self-explanatory steps described at the above URL to build the model. It is very simple - it uses built-in Oracle Data Mining PL/SQL packages to cleanse, normalize and build the model out of the dataset. You can also use graphical Oracle Data Miner® to build the models. To summarize, it involves: Specifying which algorithms to use. In this case we use Support Vector Machines as we're trying to find anomalies in highly dimensional dataset.Build model on the data in the table for the algorithms specified. For this example, the table was populated in the scott/tiger schema with appropriate privileges. Configuring the Data Source: This is the first step in building CEP application using such an integration. Our datasource looks as follows in the server config file. Make seems to think a prerequisite is an intermediate file, removes it

For starters, this exercise in GNU make was admittedly just that: an exercise rather than a practicality, since a simple bash script would have sufficed. However, it brought up interesting behavior I don't quite understand. I've written a seemingly simple Makefile to handle generation of SSL key/cert pairs as necessary for MySQL. My goal was for make <name> to result in <name>-key.pem, <name>-cert.pem, and any other necessary files (specifically, the CA pair if any of it is missing or needs updating, which leads into another interesting follow-up exercise of handling reverse deps to reissue any certs that had been signed by a missing/updated CA cert). After executing all rules as expected, make seems to be too aggressive at identifying intermediate files for removal; it removes a file I thought would be "safe" since it should have been generated as a prereq to the main rule I'm invoking. (Humbly translated, I likely have misinterpreted make's documented behavior to suit my expectation, but don't understand how. ;-) Edited (thanks, Chris!) Adding %-cert.pem to .PRECIOUS does, of course, prevent the deletion. (I had been using the wrong syntax.) Python DictReader - Skipping rows with missing columns?

heya, I have a Excel .CSV file I'm attempting to read in with DictReader. All seems to be well, except it seems to omit rows, specifically those with missing columns. Our input looks like: mail,givenName,sn,lorem,ipsum,dolor,telephoneNumber [email protected],ian,bay,3424,8403,2535,+65(2)34523534545 [email protected],mike,gibson,3424,8403,2535,+65(2)34523534545 [email protected],ross,martin,,,,+65(2)34523534545 [email protected],david,connor,,,,+65(2)34523534545 chris[email protected],chris,call,3424,8403,2535,+65(2)34523534545 So some of the rows have missing lorem/ipsum/dolor columns, and it's just a string of commas for those. We're reading it in with: def read_gd_dump(input_file="blah 20100423.csv"): gd_extract = csv.DictReader(open('blah 20100423.csv'), restval='missing', dialect='excel') return dict([(row['something'], row) for row in gd_extract]) And I checked that "something" (the key for our dict) isn't one of the missing columns, I had originally suspected it might be that. It's one of the columns after that. However, DictReader seems to completely skip over the rows. I tried setting restval to something, didn't seem to make any difference. I can't seem to find anything in Python's CSV docs (http://docs.python.org/library/csv.html) that would explain this behaviour, but I may have misread something. Any ideas? Thanks, Victor

I got an example how to call oracle SP in iBATIS 3 without a map file. And now I understand how to call it. But I got another problem that how to get a result from output parameter(Oracle cursor).
