• Stand-alone Java code formatter/beautifier/pretty printer?

  I'm interested in learning about the available choices of high-quality, stand-alone source code formatters for Java. The formatter must be stand-alone, that is, it must support a "batch" mode that is decoupled from any particular development environment. Ideally it should be independent of any particular operating system as well. So, a built-in formatter for the IDE du jour is of little interest here (unless that IDE supports batch mode formatter invocation, perhaps from the command line). A formatter written in closed-source C/C++ that only runs on, say, Windows is not ideal, but is somewhat interesting. To be clear, a "formatter" (or "beautifier") is not the same as a "style checker." A formatter accepts source code as input, applies styling rules, and produces styled source code that is semantically equivalent to the original source code. A style checker also applies styling rules, but it simply reports rule violations without producing modified source code as output. So the picture looks like this: Formatter (produces modified source code that conforms to styling rules) Read Source Code → Apply Styling Rules → Write Styled Source Code Style Checker (does not produce modified source code) Read Source Code → Apply Styling Rules → Write Rule Violations Further Clarifications Solutions must be highly configurable. I want to be able to specify my own style, not simply select from a canned list. Also, I'm not looking for a general purpose pretty-printer written in Java that can pretty-print many things. I want to style Java code. I'm also not necessarily interested in a grand-unified formatter for many languages. I suppose it might be nice for a solution to have support for languages other than Java, but that is not a requirement. Furthermore, tools that only perform code highlighting are right out. I'm also not interested in a web service. I want a tool that I can run locally. Finally, solutions need not be restricted to open source, public domain, shareware, free software, commercial, or anything else. All forms of licensing are acceptable.

• Binding Silverlight UserControl custom properties to its' elements

  Hi. I'm trying to make a simple crossword puzzle game in Silverlight 2.0. I'm working on a UserControl-ish component that represents a square in the puzzle. I'm having trouble with binding up my UserControl's properties with its' elements. I've finally (sort of) got it working (may be helpful to some - it took me a few long hours), but wanted to make it more 'elegant'. I've imagined it should have a compartment for the content and a label (in the upper right corner) that optionally contains its' number. The content control probably be a TextBox, while label control could be a TextBlock.   I have seen posts all over the internet that talk about how to fix the TransientObjectExceptions during save/update/delete but I am having this problem when calling list on my Criteria. I have two objects A and B. A has a field named b which is of type B. In my mapping b is mapped as a many-to-one. This all runs in a larger persistence framework (the framework is kind of like Core Data) and so I don't use any cascades in my hibernate mappings since cascades are handled at a higher level. Our file system is mounted in READ-ONLY mode when we need to detect the removal of the drive. We noticed the other day that we were able to unplug a hard drive and everything continued to run without a hitch until the next time we attempted to read from a file on disk.

  I have a situation where I need to, when in Radgrid Edit Mode and user makes a selection on a contained dropdownlist, display a modalPopup containing a Checkboxlist populated with data that relates to dropdownlist selection. When Selections are made on the checkboxlist, and OK button clicked, I want to return to the RadGrid Edit template, and populate a textbox in the template with the checkbox selected information. Anyone have a clear idea of how I ought to handle this. An example will be greatly appreciated please.

• Problem getting ar_mailer/ar_sendmail working on new server

  Hey all. I've got a new app up and running on a new ubuntu server. It's working fine generally but i can't get ar_sendmail working. I'm following the instructions on this page: http://www.ameravant.com/posts/sending-tons-of-emails-in-ruby-on-rails-with-ar_mailer The setup is all done, ie i can "deliver mails" which just saves records in my Email table. Now i want to get the ar_sendmail daemon running to actually send them. (so i'm at 'Running ar_sendmail in daemon mode' in that web page). First thing: ar_sendmail --mailq >>ar_sendmail: command not found Ok...so, where is ar_sendmail? I have a look and there's an ar_sendmail file in the bin folder of the ar_mailer plugin, so i add the location of that to my path. I don't know if this was the right thing to do or not. Ok, so try again. ar_sendmail --mailq /var/www/apps/millionaire/vendor/plugins/ar_mailer/bin/ar_sendmail:3:in `require': no such file to load -- action_mailer/ar_sendmail (LoadError) from /var/www/apps/millionaire/vendor/plugins/ar_mailer/bin/ar_sendmail:3 hmm. Here's the offending file, there's not much there. #!/usr/bin/env ruby require 'action_mailer/ar_sendmail' ActionMailer::ARSendmail.run ok...so it literally is just trying to require this and can't find it. The file, action_mailer/ar_sendmail.rb is in the ar_mailer plugin, in it's lib folder. So, given that it's being called from inside the plugin, it should be able to see this right? I've got a feeling that i'm way off the track here and have missed something simple. Can anyone set me straight? I'm using rails 2.3.4 in case that's relevant. EDIT - i just realised something kind of dumb: when i call ar_sendmail from the command line like this, i'm just loading that one file, which doesn't know where it's supposed to look for the rest of the stuff, i think. Which really makes me think that i'm not trying to run the right thing. Is the ar_sendmail daemon a seperate program altogether, that i would get with apt_get or something? EDIT2 - i made some progress by installing the ar_mailer gem (which the guide said i shouldn't do) and that does seem to run. It's sending some mail request somewhere and clearing the Email table of pending emails. Running ar_sendmail in -ov (oneshot verbal) mode i see it report this for example: sent email 00000000019 from [email protected] to [email protected]: # So, it actually looks like it's working now and i just need to set up the ACTUAL THING WHICH SENDS EMAILS. sigh. still grateful for any advice. thanks, max

• Implement Semi-Round-Robin file which can be expanded and saved on demand

  Ok, that title is going to be a little bit confusing. Let me try to explain it a little bit better. I am building a logging program. The program will have 3 main states: Write to a round-robin buffer file, keeping only the last 10 minutes of data. Write to a buffer file, ignoring the time (record all data). Rename entire buffer file, and start a new one with the past 10 minutes of data (and change state to 1). Now, the use case is this. I have been experiencing some network bottlenecks from time to time in our network. So I want to build a system to record TCP traffic when it detects the bottleneck (detection via Nagios). However by the time it detects the bottlenecking, most of the useful data has already been transmitted. So, what I'd like is to have a deamon that runs something like dumpcap all the time. In normal mode, it'll only keep the past 10 minutes of data (Since there's no point in keeping a boat load of data if it's not needed). But when Nagios alerts, I will send a signal in the deamon to store everything. Then, when Naigos recovers it will send another signal to stop storing and flush the buffer to a save file. Now, the problem is that I can't see how to cleanly store a rotating 10 minutes of data. I could store a new file every 10 minutes and delete the old ones if in mode 1. But that seems a bit dirty to me (especially when it comes to figuring out when the alert happened in the file). Ideally, the file that was saved should be such that the alert is always at the 10:00 mark in the file. While that is possible with new files every 10 minutes, it seems like a bit dirty to "repair" the files to that point. Any ideas? Should I just do a rotating file system and combine them into 1 at the end (doing quite a bit of post-processing)? Is there a way to implement the semi-round-robin file cleanly so that there is no need for any post-processing? Thanks Oh, and the language doesn't matter as much at this stage (I'm leaning towards Python, but have no objection to any other language. It's less of an issue than the overall design)...

  I was just wondering if it were at all possible for an Action Bar icon to only be shown when the device is in landscape mode? In portrait I have an onscreen button for a certain task, but in order to take advantage of all of the screen-space in landscape, that button won't fit. So I was wondering if I could put it in the Action Bar, but it would only be necessary when the device is in landscape. Thanks!

But after I close it, the div is removed; so I am not able to see the popup again.

• Consuming Web Services requiring Authentication from behind Proxy server

  Hi All, I've seen a number of post about Proxy Authentication, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a SharePoint Web Service consuming desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. The normal -dhttp.proxyHost ... settings does not seam to help any. But I have found that by creating a ProxySelector class and setting it as default, I can regain access to the authentication web service, but I still can't retrieve the list of web sites from the SharePoint server. It's almost as if the authentication I provide is going to the proxy rather than the SharePoint server. Anyone have any experience on how to make this work?   Is it possible to use this Role Provider AspNetWindowsTokenRoleProvider with ASP.NET FORMS Authentication (via this MembershipProvider System.Web.Security.ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider)? It seems to only work with <authentication mode="Windows">, is it possible to use it with FORMS? background -- The objective here is to provide an ASP.NET Forms UX while using Active Directory as the back-end authentication system. If there is another, easy way to do this using built-in technologies, that's great and I'd like to hear about that as well.

As far as I understand SL4 apps using SL3 controls run normally in SL4 mode but maybe there are some hidden benefits of recompiling controls for SL4 (or gotchas of not doing so).

Tried the same thing on the older Stable Version which I have installed to "XCode Stable" Getting this error Use of uninitialized value $dir_name in substitution (s///) at Library/uninstall-devtools line 153. Use of uninitialized value $developer_dir in concatenation (.) or string at Library/uninstall-devtools line 120 Anyone else facing this problem? Can I just trash the installation folder?

  When implementing JQGrid 4.3.0, Jquery 1.6.2, and JQuery UI 1.8.16 Ive come across an issue with the Inline edit. When the inline edit is activated, some of the elements get assigned an auto complete. When the inline edit is canceld or saved, the auto complete does not always go away (selecting text by double clicking it then hitting delete, then hitting escape to exit row edit). Leaving the auto complete controls in edit mode when the row is no longer considered in edit mode. Perhaps you can tell me if there is a problem with the initialization or if I you are aware of an event post-"afterrestorefunc" that the fields can be returned to their "original" state. Original state being displayed as data in the JQGrid row. I've tried removing the DOM after row close, .remove() and .empty(): ... "afterrestorefunc": function(){ $('.ui-autocomplete-input').remove(); } ... but that causes other issues, such as the jqgrid is not able to find the cell when serializing the row for data or edit, and requires a refresh of the page, not just jqgrid, to be able to once again see the data from that row. • Consuming SharePoint Web Services fails when behind Proxy server

  Hi All, I've seen a number of post about consuming Web Services from behind a proxy server, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. The normal -dhttp.proxyHost ... settings does not seam to help any. But I have found that by creating a ProxySelector class and setting it as default, I can regain access to the authentication web service, but I still can't retrieve the list of web sites from the SharePoint server. Anyone have any experience on how to make this work? • Speed Problem with Wireless Connectivity on Cisco 877w

  Having a bit of a weird one with my local LAN setup. I recently installed a Cisco 877W router on my DSL2+ connection and all is working really well.. Upgraded the IOS to 12.4 and my wired clients are streaming connectivity superfast at 1.3mb/s. However, there seems to be an issue with my wireless clients - I can't seem to stream any data across the local wireless connection (LAN) and using the Internet, whilst responsive enough isn't really comparable with the wired connection speed.
