• Between-request Garbage Collection using Passenger

  We're using Rails 3.0.7 and REE 1.8.7. Long-term, we will be upgrading, but at the moment it's not feasible. Following the advice of several blog posts, we've been tuning our GC, and have settings that work pretty well. But we would really like to run GC outside of the request-response cycle. I've tried patching Passenger per this post, and using the code supplied in this SO question. In both cases, GC does indeed happen between requests. However, every time the between-request GC happens, I see a bunch of this: MONGODB [INFO] Connecting...   Usually when looking for some items not showing up in the other table, we can use: select * from gifts where giftID not in (select giftID from sentgifts); or select * from gifts where giftID not in (select distinct giftID from sentgifts); the second line is with "distinct" added, so that the resulting table is smaller, and probably let the search for "not in" faster too. So, won't using "distinct" be desirable? Often than not, I don't see it being used in the subquery in such a case. Is there advantage or disadvantage of using it? thanks.

  this is what i am doing update t1 set x=a,y=b where a and b are obtained from (select query here) i know the select query the select query returns multiple results which are the same when i use group by or distinct query execution slows down considerably a and b are forward references so mysql reports an error i want to set a equal to the value obtained in the first row and b equal to the value obtained in the first row for the respective columns, to avoid group by. i don't know how to refer to the first result from the select query. how can i achieve all this?

  I have this SQL update query: UPDATE table1 SET table1.field1 = 1 WHERE table1.id NOT IN (SELECT table2.table1id FROM table2); Other portions of the application can add records to table2 which use the field table1id to reference table1. The goal here is to remove records from table1 which aren't referenced by table2. Does SQL Server automatically lock table2 with this kind of query so that a new record can't be added to table2 while executing this query? I've also considered: UPDATE table1 SET field1 = 1 WHERE 0 = (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table2 WHERE table1.id = table2.table1id); Which seems possibly safer, but much slower (because a SELECT would be called on each row of table1 instead of just one select for the NOT IN)

It binds when I select a region from the DB, but keeps that binding when I select [All Regions] again. What am I doing wrong?

It uses a simple <select>: <select> <option value="1">First</option> <option value="2">Second</option> </select> This works fine on Android and the iPhone (including behaving like a native drop-down would on those systems). However, it doesn't appear to work on webOS (neither the Palm Pre itself nor the emulator). The <select> displays properly on the screen, but when I tap on it, nothing happens--I'm not able to make a selection from the dropdown. Why might this be?

  Hello all, I am just reading this article and I came across this: Filter: Remove any functions in the WHERE clause, don't include views in your Transact-SQL code, may need additional indexes. If I do not use views, what are the alternatives?
