  Question What are the Git commands to do the following workflow? Scenario: I cloned from a repository and did some commits of my own to my local repository. In the meantime, my colleagues did commits to the remote repository. Now, I want to: Check whether there are any new commits from other people on the remote repository, i.e. "origin"? Say there were 3 new commits on the remote repository since mine last pull, I would like to diff the remote repository's commits, i.e. HEAD~3 with HEAD~2, HEAD~2 with HEAD~1 and HEAD~1 with HEAD. After knowing what changed remotely, I want to get the latest commits from the others. My findings so far For step 2: I know the caret notation HEAD^, HEAD^^ etc. and the tilde notation HEAD ~2, HEAD~3 etc. For step 3: That is, I guess, just a git pull.

• How to manage memory using classes in Objective-C?

  This is my first time creating an iPhone App and I am having difficulty with the memory management because I have never had to deal with it before. I have a UITableViewController and it all works fine until I try to scroll down in the simulator. It crashes saying that it cannot allocate that much memory. Term has a method getName that returns a NSString*. The problem seems to be the part of where crayon is being set and getName is being called. I have tried adding autorelease, release, and other stuff like that but that just causes the entire app to crash before even launching. • How do I send traffic from my Mac's wifi to my VPN client?

  I need to connect my Android to a Juniper VPN. Unfortunately, Juniper doesn't support Android on our VPN version. We've already put in a feature request for it, but we have no idea how long it will take to be complete. Right now, I connect to the Juniper VPN with a Juniper Mac OSX VPN client that uses Java to install kernel extensions to start and stop the VPN. Thus, I can't use the Network panel in System Preferences to create a VPN device, which means it won't show up in the 'Sharing' panel's Internet Sharing Share your connection from: menu, as suggested here. • How to get local ActiveMQ broker to "mirror" a queue on a remote ActiveMQ broker?

  I have a local ActiveMQ broker which is on an unreliable internet connection, and also a remote ActiveMQ broker in a reliable datacenter. I have already sorted out a "store and forward" setup so that outgoing messages are sent to the remote broker when the Internet connection is available. That alone works great, but when messages are outbound. However, now I have to do the reverse. Here is the scenario: A new message appears in the remote ActiveMQ broker. The message is put into a specific queue. In a few minutes, the Internet connection becomes available to the local ActiveMQ broker. The local broker should then be able to pull the message from the remote broker, and place it in its own local queue. Local consumers will then be able to see the message. So in essence, I need the local broker to become a subscribed consumer to the remote queue. I have looked through the ActiveMQ documentations but I can't find anything yet about how to do this in the .xml configuration file. Is this what I should be looking for? See: "ActiveMQ: JMS to JMS Bridge". Any advice and tips would be highly appreciated.

• Can I rename LOCAL, REMOTE and BASE as used in git mergetool?

  Lets say I'm doing a rebase B of a branch onto master and there's a conflict. git opens up the default merge tool with 3 files as input : file.LOCAL, file.BASE, file.REMOTE (they're named a little differently, but LOCAL, BASE and REMOTE are in the file names and is how they are distinguished). Now, according to the mergetool man page: $LOCAL is set to the name of a temporary file containing the contents of the file on the current branch; $REMOTE set to the name of a temporary file containing the contents of the file to be merged, and $BASE set to the name of a temporary file containing the common base for the merge. That really does not make sense to me. LOCAL is the current state of the branch. Where I get lost is BASE and REMOTE. So my question is : Is it possible to make git use the branch name instead of LOCAL and similarly more meaningful names other than BASE and REMOTE? For example, if the branch name is FeatureX and the BASE = the file as it exists in master, is there a way to get git to substitute FeatureX for LOCAL and master for BASE, so that it is more apparent where the source is coming from? This is especially a problem when doing a rebase.

  Hello, I'm developing a Adobe AIR application using Flash Builder 4. This app needs to access a remote PHP service which is being hosted on a remote web server. I am having troubles figuring out how to add a PHP data service which uses a remote service. I can add the PHP data service in Flash Builder as a service hosted on localhost, but given that this will not be feasible when the application is deployed, will not work. • How to update maven local repository with newer artifacts from a remote repository?

  My maven module A has a dependency on another maven module B provided by other people. When I run "mvn install" under A for the first time, maven downloads B-1.0.jar from a remote repository to my local maven repository. My module A builds fine. In the mean time, other people are deploying newer B-1.0.jar to the remote repository. When I run "mvn install" under A again, maven does not download the newer B-1.0.jar from the remote repository to my local repository. As a result, my module A build fails due to API changes in B-1.0.jar. I could manually delete B-1.0.jar from my local repository. Then maven would download the latest B-1.0.jar from the remote repository the next time when I run "mvn install". My question is how I can automatically let maven download the latest artifacts from a remote repository. I tried to set updatePolicy to "always". But that did not do the trick.

I've looked through the nice example in this thread but it writes the remote file to a local file.   Seems to be a question for a Flash security guru. Suppose we are loading an external SWF movie with MovieClipLoader.loadMovie(url:String) Is it safe to assume that if url starts with "http://", the movie will be loaded in REMOTE sandbox? We need to tell local SWFs from remote ones to close a security hole. If you need the context read on. We have developed a Projector, written in C++ embedding Flash Player ActiveX. Our Flash application runs inside the Projector. Soon we want to give our users a way to create plugins for the application. The plugins are obviously will be SWF movies. The case I'm afraid of is the following. A bad person creates a malicious evil.swf pretending it to be nice plugin for our app. In case evil.swf is loaded from the local file system it is granted an access to the whole MovieClip tree and Projector API, opening C++ file access operations. On the other hand if evil.swf is loaded from the internet, remotely, it will be locked in REMOTE sandbox by Flash security model. Because of this, we need a reliable way to tell local SWF from remote one before loading it. And we must not make a mistake. So again, is it safe to assume that if url begins with "http://", the clip will be loaded inside REMOTE sandbox?

  I have been given access to (parts of) a remote SQL Server 2005 with SQL Server authentication in order to be able to make changes to a database without involving other people who is not working on the project. The database have been created on my local machine. Is there any way to restore the remote database from a backup file on my local computer? I do not currently have access to the filesystem on the remote server.

  I'm providing a RESTful API. This API is used by a third party desktop application. The API is currently secured using Basic Authentication. That isn't very secure because the credentials have to be stored in the client application. The communication between the desktop and API can also easily be intercepter. The desktop application also communicates with a third party server (run by the publisher of the desktop application) I am unable to figure out how the secure the API in a good way. Ideas?

I was trying to start SQL Server in a local context, and it was fine, it worked... But the point is that I have to start it up from a remote machine. I can see SQL Server status from a remote server, but I can't start it up... Maybe it gets problems because of user and password, but where to specify the login to the remote machine? Do you have any idea to do this??? I am sorry about my English. Thanks.

  Unfortunately when I installed the cron package to take a look at it, I didn't realize that I was also uninstalling Ubuntu Desktop and Anacron. Crap!!! So, I then did apt-get install anacron ubuntu-desktop, which also removed fcron. However, I need to know what instability issues I may now encounter because I have done this change and changed it back. I mean, now that anacron is back and ubuntu-desktop is back, am I out of the woods? Or, will I lose any important jobs that need to run periodically from anacron?

  I am making a snake game and learning XNA at the same time. I have 3 classes : Game.cs, Snake.cs and Apple.cs My problem is more of a conceptual problem, I want to know which class is really responsible for ... detecting collision of snake head on apple/itself/wall? which class should increase the snakes speed, size? It seems to me that however much I try and put the snake stuff into snake.cs that game.cs has to know a lot about the snake, like : -- I want to increase the score depending on size of snake, the score variable is inside game.cs, which means now I have to ask the snake its size on every hit of the apple... seems a bit unclean all this highly coupled code. or -- I DO NOT want to place the apple under the snake... now the apple suddenly has to know about all the snake parts, my head hurts when I think of that.   My iTunes 9.0.2 hangs on launch in OS X 10.6.2. This doesn't happen all the time, only if I've been running for a while. Then it will recur until I restart. Similarly Safari 4.0.4 will hang in the flash player plugin when about to play a video. If I restart both these problems go away until later. Based on this crash dump I am suspecting Audio Hijack Pro. I will try to install a newer version of the driver involved, but so far I haven't had much luck. I have uninstalled the Flash Plugin (10.0.r42 and r32) but clearly I want it in the long run. This is iTunes' crash report. • Snow Leopard doesn't repair permissions, despite showing / saying its fixed them?

  Sometime ago, I used carbon copy as I was replacing my hard drive in my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. Afterwards, on my new drive I had some permission problems. I've tried several times running a repair permissions / repair disk from disk util. It shows that there are problems and I think it says its correceted the problems. However the problems remain, what can I do to fix them ?   I work on a remote machine through ssh. I have a very large text file there (approx. 500 lines) which I usually need to modify, then copy the contents of that file and paste it in my local browser. The way I usually do this is cat filename and then select/copy the ssh output. That takes a lot of time. I was wondering if there is a utility that will put the remote file's contents in my local clipboard.
