• How to create a good sitemap for dynamic website

  I have a website with dynamic content and different kind of pages. I have some pages that rarely change, and I have pages like blogs that change often. The blog pages also have links for sorting, for example sorting on date, asc, desc. On some of the pages I also have links to different tabbed content, and links that are just anchor links. Now when I use a xml sitemap generator then all the links are thrown into the site, and so I don't think all the links are really relevant. The blogposts up until now are also taken into the sitemap. Is this really necessary? I think the links to the blogposts can be indexed just fine. Is the best way to make a sitemap just to manually assign the main menu links to the sitemap, or is indexing everything really recommended?

  Hello , the problem I am having is the ability to fight spammers who add unsubscribe form this mail list by clicking here into their spam emails , turns out i am not the only suffer form this , gmail don't filter these mail as well . i made a simple test case , created an email on gmail and contacted one the spammer asking him to add my address to his list such a bad idea :P and google thought that i am already subscribed to that list and put it in my inbox . these kind of spammer uses many accounts to send their spam which make this job much harder how do i report those spammer , and block them in gmail or mail mail servers ?? what is the fastest way to do that ???

• Rewrite in Mediawiki, remove index.php, htaccess

  I've just installed Mediawiki on Apache and I want the url should be localhost/Main_Page/ localhost/Special:Recent_Changes ... instead of localhost/index.php/Main_Page/ localhost/index.php/Special:Recent_Changes I've tried many times and in many ways but it still doesn't work. Any suggest for a "exactly" what to do, step by step. MediaWiki docs didn't talk about .htaccess. It had only nginx and lighttpd.

Actually, what I do is that each menu link using AJAX it return the requested content. Everything works fine but I would like to avoid it because then statistics are difficult to follow (among some other things like Google boots). • How to make google analytics report on two domains as though they are one site?

  We have a main site that Google analytics is currently running fine on (www.ourcompany.com). We have a page that is technically part of the site (same design, etc.) but is hosted on another server/domain for various business reasons (www.ourparentcompany.com/ourcompanyapp/). Do we just add the normal google analytics code to the bottom of that page? Or is there something more we have to do? If there isn't anything more then couldn't anyone just take your GA code and start reporting analytics to your profile from their site?

  It is written everywhere that lack of original content is has a negative impact on ranking. But what is lack of original content? (I am not talking about duplicate content) I guess if you copy other site's content, this makes sense. But, assuming one develops its own functionalities, but similar functionalities are already available on other sites, is this considered lack of original content? Can Google decide to not index such pages (i.e., not give them a chance at all)? Are there other definition of 'lack of original content'?

• Domain Name Expired, Will My Backorder Work?

  I'm interested in a domain name that expired August 9, 2012 and backordered it a few months ago. When I check the status of the domain name, it is listed as "autoRenewPeriod". It has a new expiration date of August 9, 2013, but a Google search indicates that "autoRenewPeriod" means the registrar automatically renewed the domain but has not received payment yet. Does anyone have experience with this? How long will it stay in "autoRenewPeriod" before being released by the registrar? Do I have a good chance of grabbing the domain name?

• ASP.NET website deployment [on hold]

  I am getting my hands wet with ASP and I have been following the tutorials. I deployed the site and in Azure and it worked great. Today I started actually designing the site. And when I published, it looks as if it doesn't read any of the files I just updated, added, and modified. It works on my localhost, but not in the Azure. I thought when you publish, everything goes up, including the new files. I don't have enough reputation to add a picture so, you'll forgive me. SO, basically, how do I get my entire site uploaded? • New host, high load?

  A few minutes ago I signed up at a new webhost. I have yet to move my sites over. Upon initial SSH connection, I checked the load and memory usage, they do seem rather higher than I would like: # uptime 12:06:51 up 71 days, 23:23, 1 user, load average: 9.02, 9.49, 9.45 # free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 33014800 31927192 1087608 0 2384812 17729816 -/+ buffers/cache: 11812564 21202236 Swap: 16787916 8584 16779332 Is that a bit to packed? I'm only paying about $5 USD per month, so I don't expect <0.1 loads, but ~10 is worrisome. Is it not?   I'm having a really hard time finding a great alternative for Macbook Pro (I have a MB pro '08). I'd like to return to ubuntu and need a kick-ass laptop. If you help, you've lead me back to linux :) Req: ubuntu friendly lots of memory 8G+ ssd 160GB+ great processor (intel sandy?) connect up to three external displays. this triple display looks cool No optical drive, NO DVD 13-17" dock. In place of the ridiculous optical drive (It's like having a floppy drive IMO): extra battery? 2nd ssd? extra graphics card? your suggestion The laptop should be designed for not having dvd. I can't find many, unless they are tiny 11"... I'm exited to know your answers!

• I want to consolidate two sites into a third. Will my search engine rankings be penalized if I rewrite and redirect pages one by one?

  I have two Drupal sites with different content-- let's call them Apple and Orange. I recently developed a much more sophisticated third Drupal site-- let's call it Tree. For a large number of reasons, the content on Apple and Orange is useful for the users of Tree, so I want to move the content to Tree. However, much of the content is out of date. (This whole process took about five years.) To update the content, I will rewrite it one article at a time myself. Now here's my question: if I move the articles one by one (as I rewrite them) and then redirect the old articles (using a 301 redirect) on Apple/Orange to the new site on Tree, will this have a huge negative effect on my search engine rankings? Is there a good way to redirect among sites when they merge like this, or would I be better off keeping the old articles on Apple/Orange and simply linking them to the new, rewritten articles on Tree?

  this site is intended to allow users to sign up and pay for a service, they will be able to pay using Paypal and Authorize.net since I am using two different payment gateways, it makes me wonder where I want to keep the user information. Authorize.net offers CIM, but some users will pay with paypal therefore Authorize.net won't have all user's information Would the best solution then be to not use CIM and store everything within my member database module? for the record I am using OSE for Joomla for my subscriber service

• Detecting Browser Types?

  My client has asked me to implement a browser detection system for the admin login with the following criteria, allow these: Internet Explorer 8 or newer Firefox 3.6 or newer Safari 5 or newer for Mac only And everything else should be blocked. They want me to implement a page telling the user what browser they need to upgrade/switch to in order to access the CMS. Basically I need to know the best way to detect these browsers with PHP, distinct from any other browsers, and I've read that browser sniffing per se is not a good idea. The CMS is WordPress but this is not a WordPress question (FYI I am a moderator on the WordPress Answers site.) Once I figure out the right technique to detect the browser I'm fully capable to make WordPress react as my client wants, I just need to know what the best ways are with PHP (or worse case jQuery, but I much prefer to do on the server) to figure how what works and what doesn't. Please understand that "Don't do it" is not an acceptable answer for this question. I know this client too well and when they ask me to implement something I need to do it (they are a really good client so I'm happy to do what they ask.) Thanks in advance for your expertise. -Mike

• Shared to Dedicated or Amazon CloudFront to improve performances and keep secured?

  I have a Wordpress which currently takes about 1.8s to 2.5s for the home page to completely load in my country. The page weight is about 700Ko (static content included). In order to increase performances, I'm considering two solutions: Switching to a dedicated host. Using amazon s3 cloudfront to serve static contents. My current shared hosting have servers in a neighboring country but not exactly in mine, and both amazon and the dedicated hosting have some, so that's already an advantage. So considering all that, I still have three questions remaining: Currently having a low traffic (100 unique visitors/days, but growing) will it make a huge difference between my shared hosting and a dedicated server ? Knowing that I already use a cookie-less domain to deliver static contents (but using a redirection to the same server), would using amazon s3 make a real difference ? Talking about the cons of dedicated vs amazon s3, if I choose for the dedicated server something like Ubuntu server and do daily package updates and have only port 80 open, would it be sufficient in terms of security (in comparison with my current shared hosting which manage everything for me) ?

• AdWords test with two different agencies - can I track their results without them being aware of each other

  Currently going through a process of testing two AdWords ppc providers at the same time from two separate AdWords accounts. However they will require access to my GA account for linking and ecommerce tracking. Which means that they will be able to see each others results. I dont want this; Is it possible to set up GA so that; Company A only sees Adwords results associated to their AdWords management via GA Company B only sees Adwords results associated to their AdWords management via GA And each company never sees the other company's Adwords results? 100 positive karma points to anyone who can shed some light on this. • No databases showing in phpMyAdmin

  My website is hosted in shared hosting service and is working fine with updated news stored in MySQL database. To manage the database of website, I install phpMyAdmin in a sub-folder with the same username and password used in website. When I login to phpMyAdmin, I don't see my database. phpMyAdmin is showing "No databases" in left pane. Is there any thing I need to configure in phpMyAdmin? • What packages can i use to unroll a complete store with customer service?

  I havent bought the server yet (possible VPS) but i am thinking about using linux with apache and mono for asp.net support. I don't know much about this. What packages can i use together to have a store with customer support? What i like is 1) A store to purchase one item (its digital). More may be possible but they are likely to be addons which need the first item. 2) Have the the store send messages to my app which will generate registration key and deliver the digital item. 3) Create an account for that customer on a support site used for tickets 4) A Forum. I'd like a private forum for customers and may want their account to be disabled when their product license has expired. 5) A mailing list. I like non customers be able to subscribe to a list and i'd like to know if any customers are on it so i can send different emails to each if desired. Are there packages that make any of these easy? I dont mind writing glue code if i need to but i havent tried any stores, mailing list, ticket system but have installed a forum once long ago. My mail server will likely be through google apps.

  Dear folks, a question about appearing in search results in google: A page of mine has this extremely unique page title: Ein gutes Logo passt wie ein Handschuh auf Ihre Marke in die Hände Now, when I search the phrase: Ein gutes Logo passt wie ein Handschuh auf Ihre Marke in die Hände Then all kinds of other irrelevant pages show up having only 1 or at best two words from my unqie title appearing, although I have searched for the entire phrase! And when I search the phrase in between quotes: "Ein gutes Logo passt wie ein Handschuh auf Ihre Marke in die Hände" Then it finds 1 result, which is my page. What is going on? Why doesn't show the unique result without the quotes? Thanks: your ideas and suggestions are welcome and much appreciated

• I'm on Charter's email blacklist, how do I get removed?

• Are there any useful tools to mirror a mailman mailing list as a forum?

I am looking at a way to enable the continued functionality of mailman while having a forum linked to it for a more friendly user-interface approach. Is there a forum application that lets you mirror the mailman service so that posts to mailman are sync'd into the forum and posts to the forum are sync'd to mailman?
