• How can I can delete a project in Aperture, but not in Flickr?

  I have a Macbook Air as my only computer ; I store my shots on Flickr. The size of the SSD doesn't allow me to keep all my RAW files on my laptop. So I publish the photographs I like in their final state on Flickr with the built-in feature of Aperture. When I hit delete on a project (in Aperture) the message clearly indicates that all photos synched to any service like Facebook, Flickr or any other will be deleted. How can I can around this without the hacky way of unlinking Aperture from Flickr before deleting the project?

• Using SSH, transfer webURL to remote machine

  Hi so i was doing some research in the library so i could use some pictures later on my Desktop computer in my room. I have space on my Lab account which i usually SSH into, and i was wondering if URL's can be directly transferred over to a remote machine and saved on the hard disk. I was thinking something like this: scp http://click.si.edu/images/truncatedurl.jpg /home3/etc.../filename.jpg is this possible? Thanks in advance.

• How can I transfer a user state of a win7 machine that won't boot?

  I have a windows 7 machine that won't boot completely, even in safe mode. I want to re-image the machine using a generic software image, but would like to keep the user data (including settings etc) that are on there ala Windows Easy Transfer. I can mount the hard disk on another machine - can I use Easy Transfer to transfer the user state of an account on the non-booted OS? Or do I need explore USMT?

• What's a good tool for checking from my own machine that my server is up?

  I'm looking for a good tool (web site or not) that I can use to do a simple check whether my web server is accessible from outside LAN (it's serving in a non-standard port). To give some context, I've gone through this problem: can't access my ip from outside. Even the tools I've found are not really working. • Windows 7 reboot and freezing, possible power problems?

  My Gateway LX Series desktop is about 6-8 months old. When I bought it, it had Windows Vista. I then put the RC version of Windows 7 on it. About 3 months after I bought it, it would randomly start to reboot, actually just shut off. I monitored the temperature levels and they seemed normal. So I installed a fresh Windows 7 Ultimate OEM 64bit. It actually got worse and would reboot more frequently. I then contacted Gateway and they said my machine was built for Windows Vista (made me chuckle), and told me to update my BIOS. So I did, and it was fixed for a good couple months. Recently, it started to do it again. Now I noticed early on it was doing it most often, if not every time when I was either watching a flash video or playing a flash game. So I decided to download the drivers again and I also downloaded my motherboard drivers. Seemed to be okay. A week later it started doing it again. And now it's doing it even more frequently. Sometimes I would turn it on, login into Windows and *BAM!* it would shut off. Now I am at the point where I can hardly get it to turn on. It would freeze at the point where it says "Starting Windows", with the Windows logo. Sometimes it would say "Checking disk for consistency" or whatever and freeze there (not shut off, just freeze). I even got the prompt to launch startup repair. But that also freezes when it says starting Windows. It does not really freeze, just never loads up. I am kind of lost as to what's going on. I have a few ideas but nothing I want to pursue (graphics card? hard drive?). Another thing I did try was to boot into a live disk of Ubuntu and try to launch every program I could and get on the internet but I never got it to reboot. So it sounds like to me it's a Windows thing, but I have no idea. I am just stuck and would like to see if any one has any ideas or could lead me in the right direction.

  I have a MySQL (5.1) master-slave replication pair and replication to the slave has failed. It failed because the master ran out of disk space and the relay-logs became corrupt. The master is now back online and working properly. Since there is this error in the log the slave process can't simply be restarted. The server has a single 40GB InnoDB database and I would like to know what is the fastest method for getting the slave back in sync to minimize downtime.

I ask this since ec2 instances are basically VPS's, and using output from commands like top, vmstat, htop in scripts may not give the clear picture as the CPU cycles are shared between other instances as well. What should one keep in mind while monitoring CPU usage on a VPS?, should one have alerts based on top load or % of CPU used by user processes coupled with other factors like processes waiting on disk io, hardware interrupts?

  I was messing around with the Location tab in "properties" for "My Music" and ended up changing it a few times to directories on another drive. I quickly decided I didn't like the change and reverted it back. The My Music folder in my users directory is working fines but now my iTunes directory is labeled as "My Music" and the music directory within is called "My Music". Describing the issue simply: D:\iTunes\Music is labeled as Computer Local Disk(D:) My Music My Music Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

  Hi, Since switching to Windows 7 for my desktop I've started to get really p***ed off at the length of time it takes to start the event viewer to display the application event log (typically 20-30 secs or disk griding - presumably to load and cache all the events) I've just noticed that on server 2008 R2 it seems instantaneous.   Hello guys, I am setting up subversion using this link http://svn.spears.at/ It says that "As the Subversion book warns, make sure to create all repositories on your local disks [FiberChannel is treated as a local disk]. Failing to do so, may result in repository corruption. " This us a big problem for me. Isnt there a way I can set subversion on shared drives. Is there a work around because availability is a major concern with local drives.

  I have taken 30,000 still images that I want to combine into a timelapse movie. I have tried QuickTime Pro, TimeLapse 3, and Windows Movie Maker, but with such a huge amount of images, each of the programs fail (I tried SUPER ©, but couldn't get it to work either...?). It seems that all of these programs crash after a few thousand pictures. The images I have are all in .JPG format, at a resolution of 1280x800, and I'm looking for a program that can put these images into a timelapse movie in some kind of lossless format (raw/uncompressed AVI would be fine) for further editing. Does anyone have any ideas, or has anyone tried anything like this with a similar number of pictures?

So I figured, I can install Cygwin and through that install Grub, but I am used to Linux Mint, which uses apt-get. I have used CentOS before which uses rpm, but how do I install and use packages in the Cygwin terminal, and is it possible to install Grub through Cygwin?

Probably the camera failed to burn it correctly.   Is it possible to install 2 linux distros into 1 root, so they share same uuid and guid, configs and packages + same user /home folder ? For example: I have Ubuntu and Windows 7 already in dual boot on my laptop. Could I install Arch's base, base-devel and kernel, so it won't conflict with Ubuntu on the same root folder? P.S I don't feel like repartitioning my drive again, 'cause there's very complicated hierarchy, which occupies the entire disk. =)

  I work with Windows 8.1 and today I installed Ubuntu 14.04 alongside it, but now I can't set the boot menu to display both OS. When I boot the system it normally loads Windows 8.1 without opening the boot menu. I created a boot USB with Yumi. When booting with Yumi and selecting "boot from hard disk", Ubuntu turned on. My drives: My laptop is a Fujitsu Lifebook AH532/G52 and the BIOS is a Phoenix v1.10

  Have a couple of servers I'd like to setup as Hyper-V Servers, with a couple of Windows 2008 Standard VMs. On the host, we have a few hardware devices we'd like to be accessible to the guest; I'm not sure if these are supported via a raw "pass-thru" on Hyper-V (which I don't have a lot of experience with) if the same drivers are installed on the guest. Hardware in question is a Brooktrout fax card, a SCSI adapter for the tape drive, and a 9-pin serial connected to one of the core firewalls for management.

  Hello, I am trying to write a script which includes disk defragmentation as one of its steps. defrag needs administrative rights to work. I tried to use runas /user:Administrator, but it always asked me for password (even though there isn't one set). The script needs to run unattended for a long time, and it needs to be started from standard user account (it is actually being run by cygwin), so I'd like to get rid of that prompt. • Windows Server 2008 R2 bare metal restore to different hardware

  Scenario: I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 installation whose main disk drive is now 7 years old and showing signs of age. For the last couple of months it's been displaying increased errors and requirements to run checkdisk. I have successfully created a bare metal restore (BMR) image on a separate data drive on the server, which can be seen from the Windows Recovery console; I tested it by booting to and using the Windows Server installation DVD's recovery utilities. The BMR image includes the system drive with boot partition, system state, and the D:\ drive of the server, which is where I have followed the practice of installing any program that does not require a C:\ installation path. Therefore, the BMR includes both the C:\ and D:\ drives, system state and boot partition. The C:\ drive is a 7-year old Seagate 160GB. The D:\ drive is a rather newer 120GB Western Digital. I have purchased a 128GB solid state Samsung 830 that I want to restore these partitions to, using the BMR. Questions: In the above-referenced article, Microsoft seems to be indicating that I am only able to restore to like-kind hardware, which doesn't help at all and is difficult to believe. Is this really true? I've cleaned these drives up and minimized the size of partition they require. C:\ will need about a 70GB partition, and the data on D:\ will need about 50GB. Will Windows Server backup allow me to restore the BMR to newly-created partitions on the SSD, discarding extra space? I don't need a "how-to": I just need an "is it possible".
