• How to scale a sprite image without losing color key information?

  Hello everyone, I'm currently developing a simple application that displays map and draws some markers on it. I'm developing for Windows Mobile, so I decided to use DirectDraw and Imaging interfaces to make the application fast and pretty. The map moves when user moves finger on the touchscreen, so the whole map moving/scrolling animation has to be fast, but it is not. On every map update I have to draw portion of the map, control buttons, and markers - buttons and markers are preloaded on DirectDraw surface as a mipmap. So the only thing I do is BitBlit from the mipmap to a back buffer, and from the back buffer to a primary surface (I can't use page flipping due to the windowed mode of my application). Previously I used premultiplied-alpha surface with 32 bit ARGB pixel format for images mipmap, everything was looking good, but drawing entire "scene" was horribly slow - i could forget about smooth map scrolling. Now I'm using mipmap with native (RGB565) pixel format and fuchsia (0xFF00FF) color key. Drawing is much better my mipmap surface is generated on program loading - images are loaded from files, scaled (with filtering) and drawn on mipmap. The problem is, that image scaling process blends pixel colors, and those pixels which are on the border of a sprite region are blended with surrounding fuchsia pixels resulting semi-fuchsia color that is not treated as color key. When I do blitting with color key option, sprites have small fuchsia-like borders, and it looks really bad. How to solve this problem? I can use alpha blitting, but it is too slow - even in ARGB 1555 format.

  I use xterm and set its appearance in ~/.Xdefaults: XTerm*background: paleTurquoise XTerm*foreground: black I also use emacs, but set its appearance differently in ~/.emacs: (set-background-color "black") (set-foreground-color "yellow") I usually run emacs within the terminal emulator with emacs -nw, rather than creating a separate X window. For some reason, this doesn't work properly for emacs23; instead, emacs retains the pale turquoise background of my xterm window. Looking at what's new in emacs23, I noted that: ** When running in a new enough xterm (newer than version 242), Emacs asks xterm what the background color is and it sets up faces accordingly for a dark background if needed (the current default is to consider the background light). So it's a feature, not a bug? Anyway, is there some way that I can I tell emacs23 to ignore the xterm background settings when running in console mode, and use the settings in ~/.emacs instead? I'll also note that: It works fine in emacs23 running in a separate X window (without the -nw option). It worked fine in emacs22; and I'm not really sure whether I need to use emacs23... Running M-x set-background-color within emacs23 -nw has no effect. It's not just xterm: the same problem exists with $TERM=cygwin, for example.

• System freezes while not in use, how do I fix this?

  Bare with me, the following is a bit winded. I have Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop 64-bit installed on my laptop and up until a few weeks ago it has been running great. Then one day, while I was not using the laptop it froze. I was logged in as my user but had locked the screen locked and closed the lid. I didn't notice that it had frozen until I opened the lid and wiggled the mouse to try and log in. The screen remained black and I got no response. I immediately tried Alt + F2, F3, F4, etc. but got no response. The only thing I could do was hold the power button to power off the machine. The freezing has happened as quickly as within 10-20 minutes of the system being logged off and lid closed and as long as 4-6 hours. My machine is NOT configured to go into standby when plugged in and this has happened both on AC power and battery. Troubleshooting I have performed: I uninstalled programs I knew that I had installed between when it was working fine and having problems. Those programs were CrashPlan, Shutter and Conky. After uninstalling ALL of these programs the freezing still occurs. Next, I decided to SSH into the machine from my desktop and leave an htop and tail of the syslog running. Here are screenshots of the last thing shown on both when the system froze: htop, syslog Here is a dump of my syslog after another freeze. The freeze happened at 9:14 and I didn't notice it until about 10 minutes later and rebooted, hence the 10 minute gap from 9:14 to 9:24. In the above syslog dump I noticed a lot of NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context! and upon investigating that message learned it was from the proprietary Nvidia driver I had installed. Thinking this could be part of the problem I uninstalled the Nvidia driver and reverted to using the Nouveau driver. The computer still froze after a few hours. Lastly, thinking the problem could be caused by overheating I used compressed air to blow out any dust in the CPU vents and all other openings on the laptop. None of the above troubleshooting has helped and the freezing still occurs. What other steps can I take to troubleshoot and/or fix this problem? Note: Yesterday X started to eat up a lot of CPU power and eventually froze my system while I was forwarding an X session over SSH (from another PC to my laptop). I'm unsure if this is related or not as it doesn't match any of the symptoms of the problem above. Aside from this, the system has never frozen while in use, even under heavy load. EDIT: I just ran Memtest86+ and it made it through two passes without any errors. Just eliminating possible causes here.

  In Visual Studio Design View, the selection of Form Colors in the Properties Pane are selectable from the "Custom", "Web", and "System" tabs. Of course, the color number can be used, too. When the "System" Tab is selected, the colors in the list depend on what type of Theme the Computer User has set on the PC. I'd like to stick with this, but I need to know how to "read in" the colors. I have controls that I create "on-the-fly" or often need to change a color back after getting the person's attention using a blink/flicker technique. How do I get the list of System Theme colors? Most forms have a BackColor that defaults to "Control", which looks like a very light gray under Windows 7, running the default Windows 7 Theme. I've managed to grab a color by physically reading the ARGB value in code, but I'd rather have a way to access the colors by their Theme Name, if that can be done. public Form1() { Color cControl = this.BackColor; Console.WriteLine(cControl.Name); // there is not always a name! } Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

  I was listening to music, and my sound suddenly went dead in all my applications. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, which uses pulseaudio, so I tried sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart, but nothing happened. According to lsof | grep pcm, nothing is using the soundcard at the moment, although I'm not entirely sure if my source for that command is applicable. Is there a way another way to restart Ubuntu 12.04's sound system from the command line without rebooting the system?

  I'm in the process of installing the Ubuntu image onto my Nexus 7 following these directions. I am on the step 4 and typed in phablet-flash -b and it downloaded some files, erased 'system' and is now on sending 'system' (92311 KB)... However, it has been on this step for about 3 hours now. I am assuming it shouldn't take this long so how can I go about getting out of this and restarting the flash without bricking my device?

  I have an image that is 512x280 pixels. I want to populate a 64x35 array with every 8th pixel in the matrix. Here is what I have right now: Color[,] imgArray = new Color[b.Width, b.Height]; for (int y = 0; y < 35; y++) { for (int x = 0; x < 64; x++) { imgArray[x, y] = b.GetPixel(x, y); } } But that will get just the top corner of the image. How would I change the loop so it grabs every 8th pixel to fill the array with? edit: I think I may have gotten it. Can someone read this and assure me that it is correct? Would it be universal? Can I use it or run it on any computer. Assuming that the bios allows you to boot from USB hard drive. What other things to consider when installing an OS in an external hard drive? Is installing in the external hard drive the same as when installing in an internal hard drive? Checked that there was a suitable binding to 127.0.0.1 binding in IIS. Gone through and checked the settings in IIS as per TechNet. I have discovered that you can run the command wsusutil checkhealth to force the healt check to run, wsusutil can be found in C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools. When this executese it will tell you to check the application log.

• Strange. Asterisk key plays random Windows sound when pressed

  This is a new one on me. When I press the "asterisk", or * button on my number pad (but not SHIFT+8), Windows makes either a "Exclamation" or "Windows ding" sound. I haven't noticed a pattern to which sound is made. Logitech K200 keyboard No special key mapping software or Logitech software running Realtek sound to stereo through optical cable. Visual Studio 2010, Chrome, Fiddler, WinRAR, Notepad++, and Dropbox running. No unusual behavior otherwise. A solution isn't terribly important but my curiosity is both piqued and stumped. This doesn't normally happen and nothing odd has taken place otherwise. Ideas?

• How do I fix issue causing "incomplete startup packet" log message trying to implement replication in Postgresql?

  I've got two cloud servers running Ubuntu 13.04 and PostgreSQL 9.2. I've primarily used this blog post to aid me in setting things up. However, to do the initial database dump to the slave I'm using pg_start_backup/pg_stop_backup strategy used in this other blog post. I've read through the docs and postgres wikis as well. I ran into several problems I was able to solve, but I can't get past this wretched "the database is starting up" failure. I'm not sure if seeing "cp: cannot stat '/var/lib/postgresql/9.2/archive/00000001000000000000003A': No such file or directory" after "consistent recover state reached" is normal or the first sign of a problem. The searching I've done on "the database is starting up" and "incomplete startup packet" tells me that something is sending empty TCP packets to the slave. The only thing that even knows about the slave is the master, so I'm not sure why it's sending empty packets... Has anyone worked with this and have an idea what might be going wrong?   Will this increase my Virtual private Server failing rate if i :- install Microsoft Window Server 2008 Enterprise install SQL server enterprise 2008 install IIS 7.5 install ASP.Net Mvc 2 install Microsoft Exchange << should live inside MWS2008 ? or standalone without OS? install Team foundation server << should live inside MWS2008 ? or standalone without OS? on one mini VPS with specification of DELL Poweredge R710 shared plan DDR3 ECC RAMs 16GB and -- 1GB for this VPS using DELL PERC 6i raid controller (this thing alone about 1.5k-2k) and the SAS HDD (15K RPM) (146GB) -- 33GB to this VPS each hdd is freaking fast over 300MB read / write possible with proper tuning the motherboard is a DELL and it has twin redundant PSU (870watt 85%eff) its running on Intel Xeon 5502 (Quad Core) x2 so about 8 physical proc (fairly share) is there any ruler to measure for this about one VPS can only install what what what service ? because of my resource is limited =.@ may i know if it is install in this way,maybe it seem like defeat the way of "VPS"... what will happen ? or any guideline on this issue (fully configuring the window server 2008 R2) ?   A few minutes ago I signed up at a new webhost. I have yet to move my sites over. I'm only paying about $5 USD per month, so I don't expect <0.1 loads, but ~10 is worrisome. Is it not?
