• Can't access server running CentOS 6.3 in vmware

  I just installed CentOS on a vmware machine that uses a bridged connection, installed apache, php and mysql, but when I run service httpd start I get a warning(?): Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using localhost.localdomain for ServerName I can connect to the server using putty, so I really have no idea why it won't load in the browser. EDIT: Httpd starts successfully, return [ OK ]. Running netstat -tuplen | grep :80 yields: tcp 0 0 :::80 :::* LISTEN 0 40392 15894/httpd I am able to connect with putty to 192.168.0.113, but browser says can't connect to 192.168.0.113

• OraOps10.dll loading problem

  Hello, I have ASP.NET web service built on windows 7 in 32 bit. All dependences of this service compiled in Release mode in x64 bit. Now, I'm installed it on windows 8 64 bit and when I'm access to this service I get error "Could not load OraOps10.dll". I doesn't succeed to find any thing about this problem with oracle client in context of x32-x64 bit incompatibility in internet. Have you any idea? Thank you very much.

Normally I'd do this with EventCombMT.exe, but I'm in a Novell environment at the moment. Is there a Novell equivalent to Microsoft's ALTools or another diagnostic utility I could use to help aggregate lockout events into an easy to read log file?

• Alsa devices under Wine

  Hi all, I'm running OpenSuse 11.2 and Wine 1.1.28. Even if audio is perfectly working fine for me (Skype, Banshee, etc), when I try to configure audio for Wine (to use Spotify) I cannot hear anything from the audio test. In the winecfg audio tab, ALSA is checked, but no devices are available. I tried to run alsaconf (it needs root permissions) but it returns: No supported PnP or PCI card found No legacy drivers available, either. Any idea?

• Can't VNC into my OSX machine from my Windows machine

  Hi, I'm trying to access my OSX (snow leopard) machine from my Windows 7 machine. Both machines are within my local network I don't need outside access. I'm using Vine Server (OSXvnc) for OSX and TightVNC Viewer for Windows, but TightVNC keeps telling me that the host is unreachable. • DHCP Requests Failing

  Clients on our network recently started receiving this error when attemping to acquire an IP Address from our DHCP Server: "the name specified in the network control block (ncb) is in use on a remote adapter" The DHCP Server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, most of the client are Win 7. • My log file is so big, after truncate it 2 days, it still big like before

  I'm using sql server 2005 and the log is too big 23 gbs (if you compare with the data file only 8GB). I've already run the truncate, after that the log file is 24mb but after 2 days, it becomes 23gbs. My database is full backup mode. I have the maintain plan is 2 hours will have diff backup and 24hours will have full backup. Do you have any idea about this case?

  How can I increase the limit of worker threads from the default 10 for SQL Server 2005 SqlAgent? I have 9 jobs that run almost continuously and that leaves only one available thread for the rest of the scheduled jobs. Oftentimes, when no thread is available, I will see the jobs in "Waiting for worker thread" state. I'd like to increase the number to about 12 (which should do the trick for me). Any idea where this is set?

• Disable Crossfire on an ATI HD 5970

  I'm trying to create a computation cluster using ATI GPUs. The problem is that I have to disable Crossfire in order to get maximum performance out of the ATI Radeon HD 5970 I bought to get started, but no matter what I do I can't disable it. The problem is that I'd like to run an OpenCL application on the two cores in parallel, but right now they just interfere with each other. Any idea on how to do so under Ubuntu Linux, with ATI Catalyst 10.10?

  I work as a developer, and I have many projects for most of them use GIT for versioning the code, I have some projects that are not code such as interfaces sketches, idea, etc.. currently I have a disorder with the backups before Dejadup used, but the downside comes when I want to restore my backups from Windows. Periodically change of operating system (Windows or Linux). my question is which is better, copy each folder (project) directly to my external disk or create a repository (git - bare init) for each project I need or should do?

• DNS problems with Google on Windows 7

  Hello dear superuser community. I had no idea where to post this because it is a problem that completely baffles me. I have a lot of experience with network configuration, but I am completely out of ideas on how to fix this. I have a Fritz!Box branded router on my ISP 1&1 in Germany. My computer is connected to it with a normal Ethernet cable. I always manually set my IP on the computer and use the Google DNS servers for name resolution. I also tried OpenDNS and the result is the same. With that configuration the following happens: Google search responds with big delay Gmail, Google Calendar & Google Drive requests time out the majority of the time In order to troubleshoot, I set the network connection to DHCP for both IP & DNS. At that point, what happens is the following: Google search times out most of the time Gmail, Google Calendar & Google Drive work most of the time Sometimes, it happens that the sites that time out will come up, but weirdly enough, the pictures on the buttons will be missing. For instance, the magnifying glass on Google will be gone or the circle arrow on Gmail (but all buttons of course). All other websites load just fine - and very quickly. All other network functionality is completely unimpacted. The behaviour of fixed IP & Google DNS vs automatic IP & DNS is easily reproducible. I am going crazy trying to fix this as I have no idea what the hell is going on at this point. Here a list of the things I have tried thus far: Flushed the DNS Tried on different browsers (Works fine on my laptop by the way) Tried disabling Teredo & IPv6 stack Emptied all caches Checked the HOSTS file Rebooted the router Reset the router Reinstalled the network adapter Tracert displayes normal route until timing out at one point Ping usually doesn't work for the unreachable sites either Ran both complete Norton 360 & Kaspersky 2012 scan Ran Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool in safe mode Tried connection in safe mode & networking enabled If you have any ideas, please let me know. I'm getting desperate...

  I'm trying to shrink a Windows 7 XP Mode VHD file with VhdResizer with little success. When I select my VHD file, it says "VhdExpand only supports fixed and dynamic VHD files". My XP Mode VHDs are dynamic files. Does anyone have any idea why it is failing? Failing that, does anyone have a process that I can use to shrink my XP mode VHD files? Thanks.

  I'm getting the message: "500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command" from Exchange server and seeing in the Exchange Server logs that it's tarpitting my smtp sender despite the fact that: I added a Receive Connector for my ip that allows connection, uses "Externally Secure" I ran the commands (with the actual server name): CODE: Set-ReceiveConnector "MyTrusted connector (Servername)" -MaxAcknowledgementDelay 0 Set-ReceiveConnector "MyTrusted connector (Servername)" -TarpitInterval 0 Despite all that, it STILL fails! Any idea what's wrong?

• long access times and errors in iis application

  I am having an issue with an IIS application (details of environment at the end of the message). The web site works great most of the time and I cannot reproduce any error in our test system. On the live system however with on averare of 5-15 requests per second I have a problem with that some requests (about 0.05%) will take over 300 seconds to complete. The other requests complete withing 5-10 seconds. It seem like if all the errornous requests end up with a Timer_EntityBody error in the error log. I have never seen this as an end user but I guess that they will receive some kind of error message. I am trying to find out what can be causing this errornous behaviour. Any ideas are welcome. I have read something about that there can be an MTU issue if ICMP and MTU protocols are blocked in the firewall. Does that sound reasonable? I have also read about updating to IIS 7 should do the trick. Does it sound reasonable? I think that the problem has another cause but I have no idea of what. I have tried running hte perormance monitor, monitoring for database locks and active transaction counts. I can see some of these in the perfmon log for the MSSQL server (another machine) for example: Active transactions is sometimes peaking and sometimes for long periods Lock waits per seconds is sometimes peaking Transactions per second is sometimes peaking Page IO Latch wait is sometimes peaking Lock wait time (ms) is sometimes peaking But I cannot see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log. On the IIS server machine I can also see with perfmon that some values peak a few times during a day: Request execution time Avg disk queue length I can neither see that any of these correlate to the errors in the IIS error log. • Running Job and Paused Job Writing to the same File

  So I ran tcpdump twice overnight by accident, both outputting to the same file. However, I ran them as jobs and one of them has been paused the whole time. Anyone have a recommendations on how to keep the file? So far I have thought of: kill -9 the paused job Pause the running job, copy the file, and then stop both. Two sounds like the safest option, anyone have a better idea other than not doing this in the first place ;-)

• Multi-Role Domain Controllers for Small Offices (< 50 clients)

  Warning: I'm a Linux/*NIX admin so this is all new to me. I understand that it's not considered a good idea to have only a single domain controller, and that it is also probably a good idea for a domain controller to only do AD/DHCP/DNS (Here). We have two offices, location A with 30 users and location B with 10 users. Our two offices are separated by a WAN that is not particularly robust so I have be instructed that we need to have standalone services in each office. This means that according to "best practices" we will need to build a domain controller and a separate file server in each office. Again, I am not knowledgeable in the ways of Windows but this seems a little unnecessary for an organization of 40 users. People have commented that I could "get away with" running file services on the domain controller as long as the "load is light". That just seems to generate more questions than it answers. What constitutes light load? What are the potential consequences of mixing these roles? Ideally I would prefer to only have one physical machine at each location. The one in location A (the location with IT staff) can act as the primary domain controller and the one in the smaller office can act as the backup domain controller. If either domain controller fails we can still use the other one for authentication (albeit with some latency) and if the WAN connection fails each office still has access to their respective "local" domain controller. If the file services are ALSO run on each server (and synchronized with something like DFS), a similar arrangement in terms of redundancy can be had without having to purchase, build and install two additional separate servers. It's not that I'm adverse to that (well, any more adverse than I am to whole thing to begin with) but to my simple mind it just seems, well a bit overkill. I can definitely see the benefits of functional separation when we're talking larger organizations, but I need to consider the additional overhead too. None of this excludes having a DRP setup for the domain controller/s. I assume you can lose two domain controllers just as easily as one.
