• Failed Software RAID0 on Linux - Attempting to recover data

• ZFS & Deduplicating FLAC Data

  I'm experimenting with using ZFS to deduplicate a large library of FLAC files. The purpose of this is twofold: Reduce storage utilization Reduce bandwidth needed to sync the library with cloud storage Many of these files are of the same music tracks but from different physical media. This means that for the most part they are the same and usually close to the same size, which makes me think that they should benefit from block-level deduplication. However in my testing I'm not seeing good results. When I create a pool and add three of these tracks (identical songs from different source media) zpool list reports 1.00 dedupe. If I copy all of the files (make exact duplicates of the three) dedupe climbs, so I know that it is enabled and functioning, but it's not finding any duplication in the original collection of files. My first thought was that perhaps some of the variable header data (metadata tags, etc.) might be mis-aligning the bulk of the data in these files (the audio frames) but even making the header data consistent across the three files doesn't seem to have any impact on deduplication. I'm considering taking alternate routes (testing other dedupe filesystems as well as some custom code) but since we're already using ZFS and I like the ZFS replication options, I'd prefer to use ZFS dedupe for this project; but perhaps it's simply not capable of working well with this sort of data. Any feedback regarding tuning that might improve dedupe performance for this sort of dataset, or confirmation that ZFS dedupe is not the right tool for this job are appreciated.

• Un-do Windows disk convert HFS+

  Last night, a friend asked my to give him a copy of a word document. He handed me an external hard drive and left. I plugged the hard drive into my file server running Windows Server 2003, opened disk management and clicked OK. (I know that in Windows 2003 you need to manually assign a drive letter to external drives.) I then looked at the drive in disk management and it said that it was unallocated space. I called my friend and he said that there was data on the drive, but he used it with his Mac Book. Aperantly when I clicked OK in disk management I converted the from HFS+ file system to something else. Is there any way to undo the disk convert? I immediately removed the drive, so there was no writing to it. Windows did not format the drive, it just converted it. Is the data still there? All the data recovery programs I have are for windows, can they read the Mac file system? I need to get the data back, what can I do?

• Show (copy) data at "X" time and stop update

  I have two sheets. In the first sheet, cell F4, I have 00:00:00 (countdown). G9, G10 and G11 are cells that receive live data (decimal numbers). In the second sheet, I have three cells linked from sheet1, G9 ='Sheet1'!G9, G10 ='Sheet1'!G10, G11 ='Sheet1'!G11 (which update themselves when data is modified in the first sheet). Now I want to set in sheet 2, (assume) cells B9, B10 and B11 to show me (copy) the values from G9, G10 and G11 from sheet 1 when the countdown was 00:00:05 (5 seconds before Start) and not update again if the data changes in the cell it pulled the data from. Like G9 ='Sheet1'!G9 at 00:00:05 and stop here, do not update anything. OK? I can do a part, but the real problem is: I can not make it stop cells to update. Stand frozen, freeze, not move, calm .. however. I do not want to seem pretentious (but my knowledge in excel is limited), the most appropriate would be a formula, not macro or VBA, if possible. I want to post a picture but I can not because of my restrictions. Well, if this is not possible with a formula is just fine with (not really) VBA.

• How to change image and disable UIBarButtonItem

  I have a NavigationBar app with two views: a parent and a sub view. In the sub view I'm adding a button to the right corner as follows: - (void)viewDidLoad { UIBarButtonItem *tempButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"lock-unlocked.png"] style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(lockScreen)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = tempButton; [tempButton release]; } When that button is clicked I want to change the image of this rightBarButtonItem and disable the leftBarButtonItem (which was added automatically by the controller). Basically have two states of a button, locked and unlocked. Question 1: The only way I can find how to change the image is to create a new UIButtonItem with a new image and replace rightBarButtonItem with that new one. But I'm wondering if there's a way to just change the image without creating a new UIBarButtonItem. Am I creating a memory leak if I keep creating new UIBarButtonItem? Question 2: How can I get a hold of self.navigationItem.leftBarButtonItem and disable/enable it? I don't create that one manually, it's created automatically for me by the controller. I don't see any method/property on UIBarButtonItem to enable/disable user interaction with it.

I have succeded in BB OS upto 4.7 but when tested on simulator and on real device with BB OS 5.0 the color won't change.   Hi, I created an application which has a menu where it's items are created dynamicly. If I skip through my code after clicking on the menuItem I can see that it passes the code and it should change, however for some reason the page needs another extra trigger to modify it's content. I also see the page reloading so I don't understand why it's not changing immediatly. I guess I'm not understanding the asp.net logic just quite yet. What am I doing wrong?

• How to change identifier quote character in SSIS for connection to ODBC DSN

  I'm trying to create an SSIS 2008 Data Source View that reads from an Ingres database via the ODBC driver for Ingres. I've downloaded the Ingres 10 Community Edition to get the ODBC driver, installed it, set up the data access server and a DSN on the server running SSIS. If I connect to the SQL Server 2008 Database Engine on the server running SSIS, I can retrieve data from Ingres over the ODBC DSN by running the following command: SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET( 'MSDASQL' , 'DSN=IngresODBC;UID=testuser;PWD=testpass' , 'SELECT * FROM iitables') So I am quite sure that the ODBC setup is correct. If I try the same query with SQL Server style bracketed identifier quotes, I get an error, as Ingres doesn't support this syntax. SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET( 'MSDASQL' , 'DSN=IngresODBC;UID=testuser;PWD=testpass' , 'SELECT * FROM [iitables]') The error is "[Ingres][Ingres 10.0 ODBC Driver][Ingres 10.0]line 1, Unexpected character '['.". What I am finding is that I get the same error when I try to add tables from Ingres to an SSIS Data Source View. The initial step of selecting the ODBC Provider works fine, and I am shown a list of tables / views to add. I then select any table, and try to add it to the view, and get "ERROR [5000A] [Ingres][Ingres 10.0 ODBC Driver][Ingres 10.0]line 3, Unexpected character '['.". Following Ed Harper's suggestion of creating a named query also seems to be stymied. If I put into my named query the following text: SELECT * FROM "iitables" I still get an error: "ERROR [5000A] [Ingres][Ingres 10.0 ODBC Driver][Ingres 10.0]line 2, Unexpected character '['". According to the error, the query text passed by SSIS to ODBC was: SELECT [iitables].* FROM ( SELECT * FROM "iitables" ) AS [iitables] It seems that SSIS assumes that bracket quote characters are acceptable, when they aren't. How can I persuade it not to use them? Double quotes are acceptable.

• jQuery problem with change event and IE8

  There is a bug in jQuery 1.4.2 that makes change event on select-element getting fired twice when using both DOM-event and a jQuery event, and this only on IE7/8. • How can I capture Rake output when invoked from with a Ruby script?

  I am writing a web-based dev-console for Rails development. In one of my controller actions, I am calling Rake, but I am unable to capture any of the output that Rake generates. I've tried going through the Rake source, and I can't see where it fires a new process or anything, so I think I ought to be able to do this. Many thanks! Adrian I have since discovered the correct way to call Rake from inside Ruby that works much better: Rake.application['db:migrate:redo'].reenable Rake.application['db:migrate:redo'].invoke Strangely, some rake tasks work perfectly now (routes), some capture the output the first time the run and after that are always blank (db:migrate:redo) and some don't seem to ever capture output (test). Odd.

• .NET RichTextBox: unable to change Rtf property.

  Hey guys, Perhaps I'm missing something real simple here, but I've been struggling to change the RTF property of my RichTextBox in order to apply some color coding to my text. Probably the most straight-forward example of the problem I'm having is setting the Rtf property to include a color table in its header. The default RTF string returned by the Rtf property: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And the new RTF string I'd like to set with my color table: {\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}{\colortbl;\red128\green0\blue0;\red0\green128\blue0;\red0\green0\blue255;}}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17\par} And I set this using: RichTextBox richTextBox = new RichTextBox(); richTextBox.Rtf = rtfStr; // My new RTF string, as seen above. However, via debugger, it can be observed the that Rtf property stubbornly refuses to change; no exceptions are thrown, it just refuses to change. Same issue happens when I string.Replace() words to include RTF color tags around them. I've also tried turning off any ReadOnly properties on the text box. Any suggestions would be most helpful, thanks! Dave

Problem #2 Another problem is that i need to change the view angle of 3D Pie chart. Maybe it's very simple and I just don't know the needed property or maybe i need to override some paint event.   Hello. I'm currently running a 12-node Cassandra cluster storing 4TB of data, with a replication factor set to 3. For the needs of an application update, we need to change the configuration of our keyspace, and we'd like to avoid any downtime if possible. I read on a mailing list that the best way to do it is to: Kill cassandra process on one server of the cluster Start it again, wait for the commit log to be written on the disk, and kill it again Make the modifications in the storage.xml file Rename or delete the files in the data directories according to the changes we made Start cassandra Goto 1 with next server on the list My questions would be: Did I understand the process well? Is there any risk of data corruption? During the process, there will be servers with different versions of the storage.xml file in the same cluser, same keyspace. Is it a problem? Same question as above if we not only add, rename and remove ColumnFamilies, but if we change the CompareWith parameter / transform an existing column family into a super one. Or do we need to change the name? Thank you for your answers. It's the first time I'll do this, and I'm a little bit scared.

• How to maintain base files for development environment central while allowing people to change their

  Hi, what I'd like to do is have files in a central location so that when I add people to my development team they can see the base version of these files but meanwhile have the ability for the rest of the team to work with their own local version. I know I can just put the files in source-control (we use Tortoiese-SVN) and have my team change the local versions but I'd rather not as the exclamation mark signaling the file has been changed and needs to be committed, quite frankly, irritates me greatly. I'll give two examples of what I mean: We use quite a few build.xml files which relate to a single properties files which contains many definitions. Some of them can be different between team-members (mainly temporary working directories) and I'd like a new team-member to have the ability to get the properties file with the base config but change it if they wish. Have the eclipse settings file in the SVN so that when a new team-member joins they can just retrieve the files from the server and have a base system running.   Hello, I would like to know if somebody knows a library to changing the playback rate of a track in real time. My idea is to load a track and change its playback rate to half or double. Firstly, I tried with MusicPlayer but is was not possible at all and then I tried with SoundPool. The problem is that with SoundPool I can´t change the rate once the track is loaded. • using jquery selector to change attribute in variable returned from ajax request

  I'm trying to pull in a filename.txt (contains html) using ajax and change the src path in the data variable before I load it into the target div. If I first load it into the div the browser first requests the broken image and I don't want this so I would like to do my processing before I load anything onto the page. I can pull the src values fine but I can't change them. In this example the src values aren't changed. Is there a way to do this with selectors or can they only modify DOM elements? (Which connection string will ASP.NET Configuration tool will use) I'm learning ASP.NET and everywhere and in book that I'm reading now theres connection string named: LocalSqlServer. I want to use my local sql server database instead of sql express to store Roles, Membership and other data. I have used aspnet_regsql.exe to create needed data structures in my database. after that I changed my web.config to look like: <connectionStrings> <remove name="LocalSqlServer"/> <add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(LOCAL); Database=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> but when I run ASP.NET Configuration tool it says that: "The connection name 'ApplicationServices' was not found in the applications configuration or the connection string is empty." ASP.NET Configuration tool uses connection string named: ApplicationServices not LocalSqlServer. cause of that I have to modify web.config to: <connectionStrings> <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="Server=(LOCAL); Database=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> and everything works fine. I wish to know why the hell my web site uses connection string named: ApplicationServices and all books and online documentations uses LocalSqlServer? and how to change it to LocalSqlServer? I have a form with some imported values, and there is a field of witch imported value can be changed via a combobox.   Hi All, This may be very obvious question, pardon me if so. Because I need to return the value of ptr[a[index]] where a is an array for subindexing. I do not want to modify existing source code. Any new function added which can change the behavior is needed. Since the access to index operator is in too many places (536 to be precise) in my code, and has complex formulas inside the index subscript operator, I am not inclined to change the code in many locations. PS : 1. I tried operator overload and came to conclusion that it is not possible. 2. Also p[i] will be transformed into *(p+i). I cannot redefine the basic operator '+'. So just want to reconfirm my understanding and if there are any possible short-cuts to achieve. Else I need fix it by royal method of changing every line of code :) .
