• HTML Tidy for NetBeans IDE 7.4

  The NetBeans HTML5 editor is pretty amazing, working on an extensive screencast on that right now, to be published soon. One thing missing is HTML Tidy integration, until now: As you can see, in this particular file, HTML Tidy finds 6 times more problems (OK, some of them maybe false negatives) than the standard NetBeans HTML hint infrastructure does. You can also run the scanner across the whole project or all projects. Only HTML files will be scanned by HTML Tidy (via JTidy) and you can click on items in the window above to jump to the line. Future enhancements will include error annotations and hint integration, some of which has already been addressed in this blog over the years. • USB key will only be mounted by gparted [?]

  Hi, When I insert by usb key nothing happens (i.e. the drive is not visible). I can mount the USB drive from gparted though (and then it's suddenly recognized). It's not particular to any USB key. This only happens on my laptop (on the desktop the same key will be mounted upon plugging it in without any problems). Finally, the key is formated as fat32 and dosfstools and mtools are installed (through gparted claims otherwise). what's the catch? EDIT Also, gparted offers me the option to mount the key on "/" : shouldn't that be "/media" (or has this changed ?)

If you edit the unloaded Project you will find something like this   For some Murphys rule reason even after hitting VS2010 with SP 1 my work box has lost MVC3 so thats why {E53F8FEA-EAE0-44A6-8774-FFD645390401} is unknown  This site has a list of the VS system guids i.e C#/VB.NET,Workflow etc www.mztools.com/articles/2008/mz2008017.aspx Goto MVC 3 site www.asp.net/mvc/mvc3 and get latest ver and you should be back on track   Note to self going a bit crazy on the Visual Studio Gallery http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/ and installing maybe one to many tools might have something to do with my problems...lol

• Both bluetooth and wifi not connecting

  I'm having problems both with bluetooth and wifi, my pc is a Lenovo B5400. The BT can do a scan, but it isn't able to find any devices; I don't see any wifi network (but I have a working Ethernet connection). I read many topics on the internet but before trying different solutions and make some changes (I just installed Ubuntu 14.04) I would firstly try to understand what could the problem depend on. • How can I operate on the active X display using a command in the console?

  I have problems where compiz freezes and I have to switch to another console(ctrl+alt+F1) to restart. But it would be easier if I could just do "$ compiz --replace" in the other console and not have to lose work or anything. But when I do this it says it can't open the display, makes sense because the display is open in console 7. Is there any way I can easily redirect a command to another console for it to be run there? Like for instance, be in console 1 and execute "$ compiz --replace" on console 7?

• Get and install Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS driver

  Recently, I changed my OS kernel from 10.04 to 11.10 (bugs), but after doing it, the video driver for the 8400 GS disappeared (was there in 10.04). I worked out the same procedure I did to install it in 10.04, mainly, sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-current sudo apt-get --purge autoremove sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-current but it didn't work even though the commands seemed to install the driver without problems. • How to teach your users/customers to send better error descriptions

  I often have to deal with customers or users which are reporting errors in applications. Most of the time their content is something useless as ERROR!!! x does not work without much more information. For resolving the issue I have to request every single detail of them, which often is more time consuming than fixing the issue itself. Other send information in formats which are not ideal, like screenshots (of data records, not of errors) although they could send a link (we have access to the systems) and so on. How do you tell your users/customers to describe the problems with more details so that the whole process could be easier for both sides? edit This question is more about the social skills, than how to achieve programmatic collection of logs and error information. I'm aware of the fact that this should be part of good software design.

• HP Envy - HDMI / Mini-display-port not working

  I saw that many of HP envy users (and some other hardwares) are having problems while using Ubuntu (some other distributions too). PROBLEM My main issue is make my HDMI or Mini-display-port work on Linux (Ubuntu). I`m able to make it work smoothly on windows only :( TIP Some guy create a blog, that is very nice and I could found some helps over there. But is kind of abandoned. • Best Graphics card (Setup) for three, high-res monitors attached to desktop

  I have been looking around a little bit, but most of the discussions are about problems with already existing systems (particular graphics card and setup etc.). I would like to ask what would be the best option for me if I want to build powerful desktop with triple monitor setup. I have one Dell UltraSharp U2713HM (27 inches, 2560x1440) and I was thinking about getting two more. Would it be possible to have those three working with ubuntu (kubuntu) on any graphics card out there today? What is the best option if it comes to choosing particular model? Should I use proprietary drivers or some open sourced ones? I am not a gamer. I mostly develop on my machines and running some computational tasks, but I would rather like to spend some more money and have setup where I don't see any lags :) thank You very much in advance! • Apache 2.4 PHP 5.4 MySQL enabled but not found? [migrated]

  Just tried setting up the latest Apache (2.4.1 x86 VC10 from apachelounge) and PHP (5.4 VC9 TS X86, with the php5apache2_4.dll) on my PC and ran into this weird problem; in my php.ini I have enabled all of the following: extension=php_mysql.dll extension=php_mysqli.dll extension=php_pdo_mysql.dll but when I try to print the available PDO's using this: print_r(PDO::getAvailableDrivers()); It gives me an empty array. PhpMyAdmin and MantisBT also refuse to work, saying that the mysql extension is missing. phpinfo() gives this: PDO PDO support enabled PDO drivers no value and when searching for mysql, only the mysqlnd section pops up... The DLLs are there in the D:/php/ext folder and no errors pop up when starting up Apache, as well as no errors in the Windows Event Log, and PHP itself has no error log anyway. What could possibly be the problem with this? Before this I had Apache 2.2.22 from apachelounge and PHP 5.3.9 and I had no problems. Now nothing works...

  I work for a company that produces enterprise applications to be used by schools and districts to manage all of their tests and standards data. Their existing application is written in J2EE and is very large. I personally am a seasoned PHP and Ruby = RoR developer and I have been asked to attempt to implement easily added but crucial features to an existing J2EE codebase. I am very familiar with Java SE and know the architecture of a web application well. What I am asking for is, will this suffice for the task ahead and what tips can you give me in digging into the code base and actually efficiently adding these new features? Is there anything important I need to know before beginning and what can I expect in terms of problems and issues coming from a Java SE, PHP, RoR background? Time isn't too much of an issue, I should have plenty of time to familiarize myself with J2EE.Please also note, syntax will not be a problem here.

• How do you usually manage callbacks in Java using Swing library?

  I'm quite new to the Java Swing programming, and GUI development as well. As a beginner, I'm currently reading Design Pattern, but finding what I'm looking for is quite hard, most of the times. So far, I've never had huge problems defining a view hierarchy - I just use to subclass component from component. But the hard-to-do here is how managing callbacks, which often become hard to maintain due to the hard code. During my last projects, I tried to separate GUI, Listener and Callbacker objects which cooperated together, but in this way it was really hard adding new features. So, which kind of best patterns or best practices do you tend to use when trying to maintain, add new features or even worst avoid to hard-code classes which manage callbacks method in this kind of frameworks (mainly Java Swing)?

• Does anyone use 12.04 with HD 6950?

  Back when I first tried to switch from Windows to Ubuntu (6-7 months ago) I had several graphics related problems. The VGA was overheating, graphic glitches, video playing issues, slow/choppy window movements etc. After 2-3 reinstalls, hours of playing with different drivers/settings I decided to return to Windows :\ Now I want to give it another shot. But before I start to format, partitioning, backup and other time consuming stuff I wanted to ask if anyone using the 12.04 with HD 6950. Can I utilize the full potential of it, or the drivers are still not good enough? I know that Linux isn't meant to play games in the first place, but the games I playing (SC2, BLC, HoN, DotA 2) are working with wine as far as I know (or aren't?) and I can't find any reason not to switch from Windows if I can utilize the full potential of my config in Ubuntu. So anyone who got experiences with this VGA in Ubuntu please reply. Thanks in advance :)

• Samsung RV520 with 12.04 freezes while having WiFi and brightness control issues

  I have a new Samsung RV520 and have just installed Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS. I am having serious problems now with the wifi constantly disconnecting. This then causes the brightness control to appear on the screen. The screen starts flickering and then freezes the whole machine. Indeed the brightness control doesn't work at all. I am using a Intel Centrino N wireless card. Please can anyone provide any guidance as to how to resolve these issue on this machine. Many thanks for your help.

  I have tried to start programing with Cocos2dx but I have no idea where to start and the tutorials are no very not very helpful. What I am looking for is some tutorials/guides on how to begin using cocos2dx for the total beginner.   I know that some some text editors have problems to show long lines https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172099 . What is the best way to fix the bug or are they equally well? Modify the GTK+ source code and add a support for long lines. Modify the text editor source code such that it does not use GTK+ if it meets a long line. Split the long lines into part (maybe by cut on the Bash ) I'm just a junior programmer so I don't know what people does when they meet a bug that is on the library they use.

• How to Remove Soft Blocks Permanently in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

  I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on an Asus Eee PC 1000HA. Since I upgraded to 12.04, I have had problems connecting to wifi. When I fly, I need to disable wifi. When I try to reconnect, the "enable networking" option is no longer available. If I type in the terminal "rfkill list", the following shows up: 0: eeepc-wlan: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no If I type "rfkill unblock all", "enable networking" will become available and I am able to connect to wifi. How can I permanently remove this annoying Soft Block? I don't want to be typing up two lines of code. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• NVIDIA driver problem after updating to 12.04

  As the title says I have problems with the driver after updating to 12.04. The GUI doesnt start anymore, I only see the terminal. I have googled this for a couple of days now and have tried different things like running commands for update, upgrade and tried to uninstall and re-install the NVIDIA-drivers but with no success. No matter what I do I get this message: "Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 295.40, but this NVIDIA driver component has version 295.49. Please make sure that the kernel and all NVIDIA driver components has the same version." Is there anyway I can fix this from the terminal?

• Ubuntu One slow download sync speed

  I am having problems syncing my Ubuntu One files with my Ubuntu 12.04 fresh installation. Everything went well during the setup phase. Now, I am trying to sync back in my folders in my U1 account and the transfer speed is extremely slow. I am averaging a 15kb/s transfer speed. I tried uninstalling ubuntuone-client and reinstalling it. It did not fixed the problem. Right now U1 is stuck downloading a 50mb file. It is taking forever. Any ideas? • Suggestion for a Non-CSE developer

  Due to financial problems, I couldn't go for CSE in my country and had to settle for a BCIS honors degree. Now, after quite some time, when I want to go for a higher position in software development then I get asked about algorithms and basics that I have missed back in uni. This is affecting my chances of getting selected and I cannot afford that any longer. My question would be that what you would suggest smn like me to do in order to cover the 'basics' without any university or educational institute e.g. books,learn C++,etc?
