• PHP While() Stop Looping

• C++ VB6 interfacing problem

  Hi, I'm tearing my hair out trying to solve this one, any insights will be much appreciated: I have a C++ exe which acquires data from some hardware in the main thread and processes it in another thread (thread 2). I use a c++ dll to supply some data processing functions which are called from thread 2. I have a requirement to make another set of data processing functions in VB6. I have thus created a VB6 dll, using the add-in vbAdvance to create a standard dll. When I call functions from within this VB6 dll from the main thread, everything works exactly as expected. When I call functions from this VB6 dll in thread 2, I get an access violation. I've traced the error to the CopyMemory command, it would seem that if this is used within the call from the main thread, it's fine but in a call from the process thread, it causes an exception. Why should this be so? As far as I understand, threads share the same address space. • JQuery/JavaScript div tag "containment" approach/algorithm?

  Background: I've created an online circuit design application where div tags are containers that contain smaller div containers and so forth. Question: For any particular div tag I need to quickly identify if it contains other div tags (that may in turn contain other div tags). I've searched JQuery and I don't see any built-in routine for this. Does anyone know of an algorithm that's quicker than O(n^2)? Seems like I have to walk the list of div tags in an outer loop (n) and have an inner loop (another n) to compare against all other div tags and do a "containment test" (position, width, height), building a list of contained div tags. That's n-squared. Then I have to build a list of all nested div tags by concatenating contained lists. So the total would be O(n^2)+n. There must be a better way?

• How can you get the call tree with python profilers?

  I used to use a nice Apple profiler that is built into the System Monitor application. As long as your C++ code was compiled with debug information, you could sample your running application and it would print out an indented tree telling you what percent of the parent function's time was spent in this function (and the body vs. other function calls). For instance, if main called function_1 and function_2, function_2 calls function_3, and then main calls function_3: main (100%, 1% in function body): function_1 (9%, 9% in function body): function_2 (90%, 85% in function body): function_3 (100%, 100% in function body) function_3 (1%, 1% in function body) I would see this and think, "Something is taking a long time in the code in the body of function_2. If I want my program to be faster, that's where I should start." Does anyone know how I can most easily get this exact profiling output for a python program? I've seen people say to do this: import cProfile, pstats prof = cProfile.Profile() prof = prof.runctx("real_main(argv)", globals(), locals()) stats = pstats.Stats(prof) stats.sort_stats("time") # Or cumulative stats.print_stats(80) # 80 = how many to print but it's quite messy compared to that elegant call tree. • How to get application context path in spring-ws?

  I am using Spring-WS to create a webservice. In my project, I have created a Helper class to reads sample response and request xml file which are located in my /src/main/resource folder. When I am unit-testing my webservice application 'locally', I use the System.getProperty("user.dir") to get the application context folder. The following is a method that I created in the Helper class to help me retrieve the file that I am interested in my resource folder. public static File getFileFromResources(String filename) { System.out.println("Getting file from resource folder"); File request = null; String curDir = System.getProperty("user.dir"); String contextpath = "C:\\src\\main\\resources\\"; request = new File(curDir + contextpath + filename); return request; } However, after 'publishing' the compiled WAR file to the ../webapps folder to the Apache Tomcat directory, I realise that System.getProperty("user.dir") no longer returns my application context path. Instead, it is returning the Apache Tomcat root directory as shown C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\src\main\resources\SampleClientFile I cant seem to find any information about getting the root folder of my webservice. I have seen examples on Spring web application where I can retrieve the context path by using the following : request.getSession().getServletContext().getContextPath() But in this case, I am using a Spring web application where there is a servlet context in the request. But the Spring-WS, my entry point is an endpoint. How can I get the context path of my webservice application. I am expecting a context path of something like C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\webapps\clientWebService\WEB-INF\classes Could someone suggest a way to achieve this?

• AnkhSVN: Cannot checkout Subsolution due to existing "versioned" folder

  Hello Everyone I am using Subversion since quite some time for Java-Development and I have setup a repository on my local NAS. Since I have a MSDN subscription via my company I recently installed Visual Studio 2010 to do a small project with .NET. According to some "best-practices" my project folder looks like the following. MySolution main.sln Services services.sln Service A files Service A Test files View projectfiles Persistence persistence.sln PersistenceXml files PersistenceXml Test files PersistenceDB files PersistenceDB Test files The idea is, that the main.sln only contains the projects for the application, meaning no test projects. The subsolutions, contain the project(s) and their corresponding testprojects. I was able to put all those projects under versioncontrol with AnkhSVN, so I have the same structure there in my trunk. Commiting changes was also no problem. Now I would like to check the this out on another machine. I was able to check out the main.sln which downloaded everything that was inside this solution. It skipped the services.sln, persistence.sln and all the test-projects. Until now everything is fine. Now, here comes the problem: when I am tryting to check out the subsolution (eg. services.sln) I get an error, I think it was UnsupportedOperation. I guess this happens because ankhsvn is tryting to download the folder Service A again and create ist hidden .svn folder which is already present. The only workaround I can think of by now is installing Tortoise SVN and check out the whole thing at once. It would be nicer though to have everything from within VS. Does anyone know how I can solve this? Is another client the only solution?

  I'm not sure how to fix this or what I did wrong, but whenever I enter in a value it just closes out the run prompt. So, seems I do have a problem somewhere in my coding. Whenever I run the program and input a variable, it always returns the same answer.."The content at location 76 is 0." On that note, someone told me that "I don't know, but I suspect that Program A incorrectly has a fixed address being branched to on instructions 10 and 11." - mctylr but I'm not sure how to fix that..   I'm sorry if this question has already been asked 100 times, but I'm really struggling to get it to work. Say I have have three projects. Core.dll Has common interfaces Shell.exe Loads all modules in assembly folder. References Core.dll ModuleA.dll Exports Name, Version of module. References Core.dll Shell.exe has a [Export] that contains an single instance of a third party application that I need to inject into all loaded modules. • Question about how to implement a c# host application with a plugin-like architecture

  I want to have an application that works as a Host to many other small applications. Each one of those applications should work as kind of plugin to this main application. I call them plugins not in the sense they add something to the main application, but because they can only work with this Host application as they depend on some of its services. My idea was to have each of those plugins run in a different app domain. The problem seems to be that my host application should have a set of services that my plugins will want to use and from what is my understanding making data flow in and out from different app domains is not that great of a thing. On one hand I'd like them to behave as stand-alone applications(although, as I said, they need to use lots of times the host application services), but on the other hand I'd like that if any of them crashes, my main application wouldn't suffer from it. What is the best (.NET) approach to this kind of situation? Make them all run on the same AppDomain but each one in a different Thread? Use different AppDomains? One for each "plugin"? How would I make them communicate with the Host Application? Any other way of doing this? Although speed is not an issue here, I wouldn't like for function calls to be that much slower than they are when we're working with just a regular .NET application. Thanks

• Enumerating all combinations of lists of different types

  Given two IEnumberables of different types, what is the best practice (considering readability and maintainability) for iterating over both lists to perform an action on all possible combinations? My initial solution was to use nested foreach loops, iterating over the first IEnumerable, and then within that loop, iterating over the second IEnumerable and passing the value from the outer and the current loop into the target method. Eg.: enum ParamOne { First, Second, Etc } List<int> paramTwo = new List<int>() { 1, 2, 3 }; void LoopExample() { foreach (ParamOne alpha in Enum.GetValues(typeof(ParamOne))) { foreach (int beta in paramTwo) { DoSomething(alpha, beta); } } } I tried to restructure it with LINQ, but ended up with something that had no obvious advantages and seemed less intuitive. A search here shows lots of questions about nesting foreachs to iterate over child properties, but I couldn't find anything about iterating over two distinct lists.

• help understanding the concept of javascript callbacks with node.js, especially in loops

  hi I am just starting with node.js. I have done a little ajax stuff but nothing too complicated so callbacks are still kind of over my head. I looked at async but all I need is to run a few functions sequentially. I basically have something that pulls some json from an api, creates a new one and then does something with that. obviously i can't just run it because it runs everything at once and has an empty json. mostly they have to go sequentially but if while pulling a json from the api it can pull other json while it's waiting that is fine. I just got confused when putting the callback in a loop. what do I do with the index? i think i have seen some places that use callback inside the loop as kind of a recusive function and don't use for loops at all. simple examples would help alot thanks!

When I specify the "Root POM" option in my Hudson job to be the copy of pom.xml in its workspace directory, the build fails citing compilation failure due to missing classpath entries. It builds fine from Eclipse too. I want to move Hudson over to a separate machine so several developers can use it, so I can't very well point to my own development workspace to give it a POM. If I try putting an SVN URL in the "root pom.xml" option, it says file not found. What should I be entering here for a project worked on by several developers, and hosted in an SVN repository?

• Qt 101: Why can't I use this class?

  I have experience with C++ but I've never really used Qt before. I'm trying to connect to a SQLite database, so I found a tutorial here and am going with that. In the QtCreator IDE, I went to Add New -- C++ Class and in the header file pasted in the header the header from that link and in the .cpp file I pasted the source. • Chaining jQuery animations using recursion crashes browser

  Here's the basic idea of what I'm trying to do: Set the innerHTML of a DIV to some value X Animate the DIV When the animation finishes, change the value of X and repeat N times If I do this in a loop, what ends up happening is, because the animations occur asynchronously, the loop finishes and the DIV is set to its final value before the animations have had a chance to run for each value of X. As this question notes, the best way to solve this problem is to make a recursive call to the function in the callback handler for the animation. This way the value of the DIV doesn't change until the animation of the previous value is complete. This works perfectly...to a point. If I animate a bunch of these DIVs at the same time, my browser gets overwhelmed and crashes. Too much recursion. Can anyone think of a way to do this without using recursion?

• Python 3.3 Webserver restarting problems

  I have made a simple webserver in python, and had some problems with it before as described here: Python (3.3) Webserver script with an interesting error In that question, the answer was to use a While True: loop so that any crashes or errors would be resolved instantly, because it would just start itself again. I've used this for a while, and still want to make the server restart itself every few minutes, but on Linux for some reason it won't work for me. • Fading out everything but (this) - while honoring a click()

  I'm trying to achieve a fading navigation system, where everything in the nav but the element being hovered will fade out to say, 0.3 opacity. At the same time, I want clicks to have a greater "value", so as to not fade out a clicked element (or in this case, the active subpage).. Ideally I'd like for all of the anchor elements to revert to its original state whenever you hover out from the unordered list holding it all. But I get an error saying that the code 0 has not been recognized. Any advise?

• How can I bind a javascript dialog using Knockout?

  I've got a list of data in an observableArray and I want to show it in a javascript dialog window (I'm using jQuery.blockUI if it matters). Unfortunately the dialog seems to come unbound after the page is loaded. The dialog initializes correctly (the data is displayed), but it isn't updating with changes. There are no Javascript errors and I've moved the binding to after the dialog is generated and added to the document (no effect). I've also tried calling ko.applyBinding on the main div that makes up the dialog but that, for some reason, causes part of the main page to hide (the DOM is there, but they are hidden). EDIT: I've created a project on jsfiddle that reproduces the problem. The main culprit seems to be wrapping the content of the dialog in a div. If I show the content directly it seems to work (of course I can't do that, the wrappers provide a common style for our dialogs). I'm recovering from the flu and could easily be missing something obvious, but I've been trying all day and nothing is coming to me. Any ideas?
