    i am doing a delete with a LIKE statement my keybuffer is 25m, the sort buffer size is 256k the delete has been taking over 2 hours should i increase memory usage? there are about 50 megs of data in the table from which i am deleting, thats about 500,000 rows is there anything else i can do on the adminsitration size to speed up this delete?

    Ok here's the deal I got one table with a bunch of client information. Each client makes up to one purchase a year which is represented by an individual row. there's a column for the year and there's a column the contains a unique identifier for each client. What I need to do is to construct a query that takes last year and this year and shows me which clients were here made a purchase last year but not make a purchase this year. I also need to build a query that shows me which clients did not make a purchase last year and the year before last but did make a purchase this year.

    Hello, I'm making a hit counter. I have a database and I store the IP and $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; of the visitors. Now I need to add a filter, so I can put away the hits, that are made by bots. I found out, that many bots usually keep some common words in the $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; , so I's like to make and array of words, that would keep the bot from displaying in the results. Here is what I have now: while($row = mysql_fetch_array($yesterday, MYSQL_ASSOC)) { <-- Here I need a code, that would run through an array and check, if it containts the keywords and if it doesn't ... just count++; -- } Also if you know any other way of detecting and removing the bots from the results, I'd be verry thankful.     Is there an easy way to dump an array returned from mysql_fetch_row into a CFArray? (part of the PHP implementation of CFPropertyList) I'm bummed by the lack of documentation on CFPropertyList for PHP. Iterating through each item in the array seems inefficient. I'm open to using a different mysql_fetch_... command. I'd like to just say: $NewArray = new CFArray( $ResultArray ) But that deosn't seem to work.     MY table is set up like this, all I need to do is call a query to my Photos table. I have PhotoID as the primary key and GalleryID as the foreign key to Gallery. How can I could the number of unique PhotoID's for each multiple GalleryIDs. So to speak there are may duplicate GalleryIDs because there are many photos in a gallery. So I just need to could the number of unique PhotoIDs associated with that GalleryID. Can it be done in one query?

    Okay I use this script here to make a backup of my database: mysqldump -u root -h localhost -pPASSWORD forums | gzip -9 > backup-$(date +%Y-%m-%d).sql.gz This is used in a cron daily. But I need to download this remotely or through a ftp program every day as well so I have a physical copy of it on my home hard drive, is this possible? I know it is, can anyone tell me a quick way to do it?

  • Ways to prevent multiple email notification with php&mysql

    My 1st post, but i got many great answers and tips from stackoverflow so far. This one was a close call- How does facebook, gmail send the real time notification? but not exactly, so let brainstorm this together. I have CMS system with mail notification when a change is made on the site. Everything wotk very well but i want to prevent multiple notification if somene make another quick change to, let say, fix a typo. Using php mail(), obviously. I've tough of 2 ways, one simple, and one.... let just say, pretty heavy... cough. the 3rd one was inspired by Implementing Email Notification but really doesn't look appealing to me to send bunch of email at once. Use a timestamp to check if another change was made in the 'let say' last 5 minutes. Record the last change, and compare it to the new one. Could be usefull for backup at the same time since i'll have to save the change somewhere, but text can be long and making an sql search would be painfull. Wouldn't it? Use cron to send changes every x minutes... convince me if you ythink it is a suitable solution. Any ideas, comment or suggestion of your own?     I'm creating a members site, and I'm currently working on the user Preference settings. Should I create a table with all the preference fields (about 17 fields) or should I include them in the main member table along with the account settings? Is there a limit as to how many fields I should have in a table? currently the member table has about 21 fields... not sure if its okay to add another 17 more fields when I can easily just put them in another table. It'll take more coding to pull up the data though... any sugguestions?

    in my forum i have threads and replies. one thread has multiple replies. but then, a reply can be a reply of an reply (like google wave). because of that a reply has to have a column "reply_id" so it can point to the parent reply. but then, the "top-level" replies (the replies directly under the thread) will have no parent reply. so how can i fix this? how should the columns be in the reply table (and thread table). at the moment it looks like this: threads: id title body replies: id thread_id (all replies will belong to a thread) reply_id (here lies the problem. the top-level replies wont have a parent reply) body what could a smart design look like to enable reply a reply?
