• AcceptSecurityContext (Kerberos) returns SEC_E_LOGON_DENIED

  Hi, I am trying to write a simple application that performs Kerberos authentication (no mutual authentication for now). The operating system is Windows server 2003, standard edition. I have setup Active directory and created an SPN using setspn tool. AcquireCredentialsHandle returns SEC_E_OK both on client and on server. InitializeSecurityContext on client side returns SEC_E_OK. AcceptSecurityContext on server side returns SEC_E_LOGON_DENIED. I am sure there's nothing wrong in my code since the same behaviour I see when using the sample application from the following MSDN article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dvdarchive/bb985043.aspx So I guess there is something wrong in my setup. But I can't find out what. Maybe I have missed something in SPN setup? Any help is appreciated. Regards, David.

• Working with multiple GIT severs

  Hello, I have a question. Is it possible to set up a system so that you have a private GIT server that you host, which automatically syncs with a remote one, hosted by a site like Sourceforge, and then you can commit your local to the private GIT server, and then when you have to merge the changes from your private wip branches that are on your private GIT over to the master/branch/tag from the public GIT, and then push the change to the public GIT? I ask this because I have a lot of personal work I would like to get working before putting it up for the public to see, and I'm shifting between several computers/operating systems in the process. If this is not possible in standard GIT, are there any other options that would allow me to do this? Thanks, Peter

• Autoupgradeenable property of openfiledialog.

  I had need of showing open file dialog in winform application. And one property of the file dialog, autoupgradeenabled which I set as a true, which is for updating the open file dialog according to operating system, like if application is running on xp then dialog is displayed different as in wista or window 7. So when I used that property as a true, and once in the machine where there was xp with 2.0 .net framework that open file dialog could not be opened. So I tried by doing it false then also it could not be opened in the machine with the xp and 2.0 framework. Then I tried by commenting that whole line means I removed that property from the code, then I tried and it was fine in xp machine with 2.0 framework. So problem is I cannot understand that why that property is not working by setting it false or true. Because by setting that property is should work in all os with all framework and dialog should be changed according to os. If not,then what is the meaning of that property ?

• Sockets: RAW or STREAM

  May be the question is a bit stupid, but I'll ask it. I read a lot about raw sockets in network, have seen several examples. So, basically with raw sockets it's possible to build own stack of headers, like stack = IP + TCP/UDP + OWN_HEADER. My question is, is it possible to get some kind of ready frame of first two(IP + TCP/UDP) from the linux kernel and then just append own header to them? The operating system in question is linux and the language is C. I cannot find any function which can do such a thing, but may be I'm digging in a wrong direction.

• What approaches are available to revert an IDirect3DDevice9 instance to its default render state?

  Given an instance of IDirect3DDevice9, what approaches are available to put it in its original render state (i.e. the state it was in when the device was initially created)? The cleanest way that I've come across is to create a state block via IDirect3DDevice9::CreateStateBlock just after the device has been created so that it can be applied later. Unfortunately, I'm operating under the constraints of an existing project such that I can't modify the device creation code; by the time my component gets the device, its default state has been modified. • What information do you capture when your software crashes in the field?

  I am working on rewriting my unexpected error handling process, and I would like to ask the community: What information do you capture both automatic, and manually, when software you have written crashes? Right now, I capture a few items, some of which are: Automatic: Name of app that crashed Version of app that crashed Stack trace Operating System version RAM used by the application Number of processors Screen shot: (Only on non-public applications) User name and contact information (from Active Directory) Manual: What context is the user in (i.e.: what company, tech support call number, RA number, etc...) When did the user expect to happen? (Typical response: "Not to crash”) Steps to reproduce. What other bits of information do you capture that helps you discover the true cause of an applications problem, especially given that most users simply mash the keyboard when asked to tell you what happened. For the record I’m using C#, WPF and .NET version 4, but I don’t necessarily want to limit myself to those. • PHP Default Timezone issue on Fedora + Zend Server CE

  I have ZendServer CE (PHP 5.2) installed on a Fedora VM, and I have the system timezone set to 'America/Chicago'. I have date.timezone = 'UTC' in my php.ini file, and when I call date_default_timezone_get(), or display date('T') on a web page, it says 'CDT'. The documentation on php.net for date_default_timezone_get() says it follows this order when choosing a default timezone: - Reading the timezone set using the date_default_timezone_set() function (if any) - Reading the TZ environment variable (if non empty) - Reading the value of the date.timezone ini option (if set) - Querying the host operating system (if supported and allowed by the OS) If I change the system timezone through the 'setup' GUI, and reboot the server, date('T') returns whatever I changed the system timezone to, regardless of what php.ini says. I also don't have a TZ environment variable, and I am not currently using date_default_timezone_set() anywhere in my code. Any idea what might be going on? I realize I can always override the system timezone by calling date_default_timezone_set('UTC'), but I'd rather rely on the php.ini file if possible. Thanks for the help, Dave

• Linux, C++ audio capturing (just microphone) library

  I'm developing a musical game, it's like a singstar but instead of singing, you have to play the recorder. It's called oFlute, and it's still in early development stage. In the game, I capture the microphone input, then run a simple FFT analysis and compare the results to typical recorder's frequencies, thus getting the played note. At the beginning, the audio library I was using was RtAudio, but I don't remember why I switched to PortAudio, which is what I'm currently using. The problem is that, from time to time, either it crashes randomly or stops capturing, like if there were no sound coming from the microphone. My question is, what's the best option to capture microphone input on Linux? I just need to open, read, and close a flow of bytes from the microphone. I've been reading this guide, and (un)surprisingly it says: I don't think that PortAudio is very good API for Unix-like operating systems. So, what do you recommend me?

• How to configure the web page of a web application to be browsed maximized ?

  I have developed a web project using PowerBuilder V12.0 and it is published in ASP.net web file formats (*.aspx). I have hosted my web project on a web server machine with operating system (Windows Server 2003 - Enterprise Edition) and IIS V6.0 as Web Server Hosting Application. I would like to make the home page (Default.aspx) opened maximized so that no internet toolbars appears in the Internet Explorere or any other internet browser like Firefox and so on. It seems this is a web server configuration and setting as now I host the same web application in two development web servers and it opens maximized in one of them and opens normal in the other so No changes are needed in the web project files. I do not know exactly what is this option or configuration,, Is there a property like window size or width and height in web configuration files like web.config and machine.config ? I guess there is a property like WindowSize:Maximized. If you had experience with that before please let me know the options and configurations needed to do that. Thanks for your help.

• Detect if PCRE was built without the --enable-unicode-properties or --enable-utf8 configuration switches

  I've a PHP library that uses a number of regular expressions featuring the \P expressions for multibyte strings, e.g. ((((?:\P{M}\p{M}*)+?)|(\'[^\']*\')|(\"[^\"]*\"))!)?\$?([a-z]{1,3})\$?(\d+) While this works on most builds, I've had a few reports of the regexp returning an error. Depending on Operating platform, the error messages from PCRE are: Compilation failed: PCRE does not support \L, \l, \N, \P, \p, \U, \u, or \X at offset n or Compilation failed: support for \\P, \\p, and \\X has not been compiled at offset n I know that I can probably test a regexp at the beginning of my code that uses \P, and trap for a returned error, then use that response to set a compatibility flag and provide a degraded (non UTF-8) regexp without the \P within the main body of my code based on that compatibility flag; but I was wondering if there was any simpler way to identify whether PCRE had been built without the --enable-unicode-properties or --enable-utf8 configuration switches. PHP provides access to PCRE_VERSION constant, but that won't help identify whether \P support is enabled or not.

• How do you compare music data

  i want to write an app to rename sort and organize my music library (mp3's, wav's, flac's). I wanted to take a portion of the song, say the first minutes, and compare that to a database and then retrieve the song name and tag information. I have heard that you can do this with last.fm but a look through their api info didn't help. My question is, what is this called so i can google it better? nothing i am trying is helping much. This would be similar to the shazam android app. My prefered language would be java, so i can run it on a few operating systems easier, but that might be subject to change depending on how i can do it. • InetAddress.getLocalHost() throws UnknownHostException

  Hi, I am testing our server-application (written Java) on different operating systems and thought that OpenSolaris (2008.11) would be the least troublesome due to the nice Java integration. Turns out I was wrong, as I end up with a UnknownHostException try { computerName = InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostName(); if (computerName.indexOf(".") > -1) computerName = computerName.substring(0, computerName.indexOf(".")).toUpperCase(); } catch (UnknownHostException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } The output is: java.net.UnknownHostException: desvearth01: desvearth01 at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1353) However, nslookup desvearth01 returns the correct IP address, and nslookup localhost returns 127.0.0.1 as expected. Also, the same code works perfectly on FreeBSD. Is there anything special to OpenSolaris that I am not aware of? Any hints appreciated, thanks.

And - correct me if I'm wrong - you don't need to have Qt already installed in all of these platforms. How exactly this approach works?   How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using? • WM_SYSCOMMAND oddities

  An application recieves the WM_SYSCOMMAND message when the user selects a menu item command on the system menu, and so wParam can be SC_CLOSE, SC_CONTEXTHELP, SC_MAXIMIZE, SC_MINIMIZE, SC_RESTORE etc. That's logical. But one can also send the WM_SYSCOMMAND message to send commands to the Windows Shell. For instance, one can display the start menu (SC_TASKLIST), activate the screen saver (SC_SCREENSAVE), and turn off the monitor (SC_MONITORPOWER). This does not make sense, does it? What does this have to do with the application's system menu? This is more of a "system command", i.e. more of a completely other interpretation of the name "WM_SYSCOMMAND" of the message. It's like the message is used to send command requests to the system. Why is this message used for two seemingly entirely different things, and what thing does the name "SYSCOMMAND" refer to (command on the system menu, or command of the operating system)?

  I am building an ASP.NET application. Within each ASPX page, we are outputting inline snippets of HTML that are pulled from static text files. Similar to the example shown here: http://www.dotnetcurry.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=331 As in the article, we store the contents of the files in HttpRuntime.Cache with a CacheDependency pointing to the included file. For each cached file, the operating system needs to monitor a file for changes. Is this going to be a potential scalability problem? Does Windows 2008 have a maximum number of file change monitors?

• How do I ensure GUI responsiveness when using OpenCL on the display GPU?

  In my relatively short time learning OpenCL I frequently see my application cause the operating system UI to become significantly less responsive (several seconds for a window to respond to a drag for example). I have encountered this problem on Windows Vista and Mac OS X both with NVidia GPUs. What can I do when using OpenCL on the same GPU as the display to ensure that my application does not significantly degrade the UI responsiveness like this? Also, can this be done without taking needless performance losses within my application? (Ie, if the user is not doing some UI intensive task then I would not expect my application to run any slower than it does now.) I understand that any answers will be very platform specific (where platform includes OS/GPU/driver combo).

• C++: FFMPEG and SDL resources

  I'm looking for resources (preferably books, but websites are fine too) for using FFMPEG and/or SDL with C++. Stuff I'd like to be able to do (eventually): Decode and play videos in realtime to a QT widget (the QT part isn't a problem) Overlay text and images on the video (in realtime) Loop video Cross-fade from one video to another (in realtime) Some kind of DVD functionality LIVE sources? (i.e. webcam, stream, etc.) So far I've looked at (and consider helpful) the following resources: FFMPEG and SDL Tutorial by Dranger (extremely helpful) StackOverflow: ffmpeg C API documentation/tutorial (not a duplicate, btw) Sample code bundled with FFMPEG libraries (I'll try and update this list with anything helpful below) Thanks for any help... Also: Operating System is Windows (but maybe one day cross-platform) Also 2: Resources using alternatives are welcome too... i.e. DirectShow, VFW, etc.

• Test-driven Development: Writing tests for private / protected variables

  I'm learning TDD, and I have a question about private / protected variables. My question is: If a function I want to test is operating on a private variable, how should I test it? Here is the example I'm working with: I have a class called Table that contains an instance variable called internalRepresentation that is a 2D array. I want to create a function called multiplyValuesByN that multiplies all the values in the 2D array by the argument n. So I write the test for it (in Python): def test_multiplyValuesByN (self): t = Table(3, 3) # 3x3 table, filled with 0's t.set(0, 0, 4) # Set value at position (0,0) to 4 t.multiplyValuesByN(3) assertEqual(t.internalRepresentation, [[12, 0, 0], [0, 0, 0], [0, 0, 0]]) Now, if I make internalRepresentation private or protected, this test will not work. How am I supposed to write the test so it doesn't depend on internalRepresentation but still tests that it looks correct after calling multiplyValuesByN?

• Crowdsourcing translation for mobile developers?

  I am developing applications for mobile phones with different operating systems (Android, Symbian, iPhone). Applications are sold internationally so they need to be translated to different languages in addition to english version. I assume most mobile developers do the translations using some paid external service each time. This approach does not look very cost-effective to me. Would it make sense to have a website where simple translations would be done using crowdsourcing (other developers)? Most strings in mobile applications are very simple and short, for example "OK, "Cancel", "Are you sure?", "Please enter your password". Also the same strings are used in hundreds of applications. Instead of paying for translating all strings, developers could save money by only buying their difficult application specific translations. Does anyone agree with this idea? I have seen many opensource projects doing the translations succesfully using volunteers.

• How are clientside security vulnerabilities generally discovered?

  I mean in operating systems or their applications. The only way I can think of is examine binaries for the use of dangerous functions like strcpy(), and then try to exploit those. Though with compiler improvements like Visual Studio's /GS switch this possibility should mostly be a thing of the past. Or am I mistaken? What other ways do people use to find vulnerabilities? Just load your target in a debugger, then send unexpected input and see what happens? This seems like a long and tedious process. Could anyone recommend some good books or websites on this subject? • GLOB_BRACE portability?

  In this question, I was made aware of glob()'s GLOB_BRACE option that allows for a limited set of regular expressions when searching for files. This looks just like what I need, but according to the manual, GLOB_BRACE is "not available on some Non-GNU Operating systems." Among those seems to be Solaris. I am building an application that is supposed to be as portable as possible, so I need to check out possible problems as early as possible. Does somebody know of other platforms apart from Solaris where GLOB_BRACE is not supported? How about Mac OS = X for example? It's built on top of a Unix. Is every Unix automatically a "GNU" platform as defined in the manual?
