    Hello everyone I'm trying to tweak a tiny bit a wordpress, but i am level 0 in php, so i kinda suck :/ I want to add a custom 'tweet this' button (i know there already is a gazillion of them, i just wanted to do it on my own, for fun) So, i'm trying this : <a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=<?php strip_tags(the_excerpt()) ?>" >tweet this</a> the_excerpt() returns "<p> ... excerpt ... </p>" and the strip_tags function does not strip those <p> tags ! What do i do wrong ? Thanks, and sorry if it is obvious.

  • Ampersand in JSON/PHP in POST

    I'm having a text field which is send via JSON and jQuery (wrapped with .toJSON function) to my server via AJAX and POST request. On PHP side I'm doing json_decode . Everything works but if I put ampersand (&) inside it splits up the POST parameter so its incomplete on PHP side (at least what var_dump($_POST) is writing out). Shouldn't the toJSON and json_decode do all the job (escaping)? I tried encodeURIComponent, & to &amp;, & to \u0026 and it's not working. What I'm doing wrong?     hello, i'm circle.very new in php and mysql.i need to develop a website include with database.but i have a problem with this. i'm using php and sql to develop it.my task is: i have two table, investor and commission. investor have three level which is coordinator, consultant and participant.what should i do is, only coordinator can add consultant and participant in their profile.and only coordinator can add participant in their profile. so here, when investor was login, and they go to view commission, they only can see their owned coordinator and participant. but i'm stuck when they want to view the commission.maybe it only a simple thing, but i cannot solved it. help me..:(

    An insert query is constantly getting logged in my MySQL slow query log. I want to see how much time the INSERT query is taking with 100 simultaneous insert operations(to the same table). So I need to simulate the follwoing. 500 different simultaneous connections from PHP to the same database on a mysql server, all of which are inserting a row(simultaneously) to the same table. DO I need to use any load testing tool? Or Can I simply write a PHP script to do this? Any thoughts?

Do you know of a faster approach? xml over http strikes me as a bit wasteful, but I don't know of a better approach.     I'm building a image sharing site and would like to know the pros and cons of resizing images on the fly with php and having the resized images stored. Which is faster? Which is more reliable? how big is the gap between the two methods in speed and performance? Please note that either way the images go through a PHP script for statistics like views or if hotlinking is allow etc... so is not like it will be a direct link for images if i opt to store the resize images. I'll appreciated your comments or any helpful links on the subject, Thanks.

    I have a PHP script that runs a .bat file on my windows machine using $result = system("cmd /C nameOfBatchFile.bat"); This sets some environmental variables and is used to call Amazon EC2 API from the command line. How do I do the same from a Linux server? I have renamed my .bat file to a shell (.sh) and changed the script to use 'export' when setting env vars. I have tested by running the code from a putty terminal and it does what it should. So I know the commands in the script are good. How do I run this from PHP? I have tried running the same command as above with the new filename and I don't get any errors, or file not found etc but it doesn't appear to work. Where do I start trying to solve this?

    Hello, I have a string say: Order_num = "0982asdlkj" How can I split that into the 2 variables, with the number element and then another variable with the letter element in php? The number element can be any length from 1 to 4 say and the letter element fills the rest to make every order_num 10 characters long in total. I have found the php explode function...but don't know how to make it in my case because the number of numbers is between 1 and 4 and the letters are random after that, so no way to split at a particular letter. Please help as specifically as possible!

    I am looking for a best practice while uploading images to amazon s3 server and serving from there. We need four different sizes of an image. So just after image upload we convert the image and scale in 4 different widths and heights. Instead of sending images immediately to S3, it may be better to add them to a job queue. But the user should see the uploaded image immediately.

But I couldn't find any decent answer in there, all were of the type "last resort", "xkcd", "evil", "bad", "EVIL!!!". But no valid example. Only statements that there aren't any uses. Or statements that there are some rare use cases (again, without examples). So, the question is: "Which are the valid uses of goto in PHP". Answers for "Is goto evil" are not welcome and will get downvoted. Thanks :) Or does somebody have a link to an RFC where the decision is explained - I couldn't find one.

  • Using PHP's $_COOKIE to create cookie.txt for cURL

    Hi, I'm running Drupal and Mediawiki on my server under the same domain. They are connected to each other with extensions/modules. Meaning if I log in to Mediawiki, it automatically logs into Drupal also. Mediawiki has some extensions that filter the information shown on the page. What I want to do is to show that filtered information from Mediawiki on my Drupal page. I'm trying to fetch the data with PHP cURL, but I'm not able to force it to use the login information. How can I convert PHP's $_COOKIE into cURL cookie.txt format? I suppose after that I'm able to fetch the data from Mediawiki with the right permissions.     For a login system in php would this be a suitable outline of how it would work: users types in username and password, clicks login button. Checks if user exists in database, if it does, then retrieve the salt for that user hash the password and salt (would this be done on the client or server side? I think client side would be better, but php is server side so how would you do this?) check value against value in database, if the values match then user has typed in correct password and they are logged in.

  • Stopping an if clause along with the whole PHP script, but not HTML

    Hello there, I've been having this problem for around an hour, and have searched the internet for answers. I've checked the PHP documentation, looked around, Googled, nothing. Anyways, my problem is that after I try to validate something (and it's wrong), if I use exit; it will also stop the HTML after. Here's what I'm talking about: if ($_POST['exampleEmail'] == "") { echo "Please enter an e-mail."; //Now I want only the PHP script to stop, however... exit; //If I use exit, then the HTML after this script (footer) doesn't show. } If anyone can help, please do. I've tried using break, but to no avail, since it's only for loops and switches. If there is a better/more correct (or simply correct if this is the wrong way), please share. I've had this problem in the past, and I just used exit then. Thanks.

    I can't get around an issue instantiating a new class by using a string variable and PHP 5.3. namespaces. For example, this works; $class = 'Reflection'; $object = new $class(); However, this does not; $class = '\Application\Log\MyClass'; $object = new $class(); A fatal error gets thrown stating the class cannot be found. However it obviously can be instantiated if using the FQN i.e.; $object = new \Application\Log\MyClass; I've found this to be aparrent on PHP 5.3.2-1 but not not in later versions. Is there a work around for this?
