  • Rails: How to preload a message to user

    I have a Rails based prelaunch site that has some rotating background images (which are important for selling the idea of the site) that are taking too long to load, such that the users are leaving the site before they load. The only thing they're seeing is the email submission box. What's a good way to show a message to the users that the site will take some time to load but then have that message disappear after a reasonable period of time. I'm guessing a jQuery fadeOut() with a timer, but I'm not sure how long to set the timer for, because I'm not sure at what time it would start counting. Any suggestions?

  • How to search and validate plain texts (where it starts with http AND ends with .aspx) to be a valid hyperlink in a page body content?

    My web page content is populated by a plain text that is retrieved from a CDATA format - plain text data. This is the site http://checksite.apsx to get information. For more information, visit http://moresites.com/FAQ/index.html or search the site. Now, my goal is to convert this plain text to a valid hyperlinks. I've used a javascript code that does the conversion - /((http|https|ftp):\/\/[^ ]+)/g; , but sometimes if there are multiple words, it captures an invalid URL. My question: Is there a way to strictly capture any string that starts with "http" AND ends with ".html" or "aspx" will be converted into a valid hyperlink? it should look like this - This is the site http://checksite.apsx to get information.   • CSS center page on screen

    //sorry for the bad formating, i am on my phone... When someone asks how to center a page, then the response is like: margin-left:50%; left:(-1/2 width); I used this code on a site with a width of 1000px,so it comes to screens, where this site does not fit. Now the site gets centered on the smaller screen and gets equaly pushet to left and right. So lets say, our screen is 600px wide: 200px are left 600px are on screen 200px are right You can scroll to the right, but the pixels on the left are unreachable... How can i solve this to control, how much of my site gets dragged to the left in case of smaller screens? This is especially important for mobile phones...

  • Reading Data from DDFS ValueError: No JSON object could be decoded

    I'm running dozens of map reduce jobs for a number of different purposes using disco. My data has grown enormous and I thought I would try using DDFS for a change rather than standard txt files. I've followed the DISCO map/reduce example Counting Words as a map/reduce job, without to much difficulty and with the help of others, Reading JSON specific data into DISCO I've gotten past one of my latest problems. I'm trying to read data in/out of ddfs to better chunk and distribute it but am having a bit of trouble.   • Setting up apache to view https pages

    I am trying to set up a site using vmware workstation, ubuntu 11.10, and apache2. The site works fine but now the https pages are not showing up. For example if I try to go to https://www.mysite.com/checkout I just see the message Not Found The requested URL /checkout/ was not found on this server. I dont really know what I am doing and have tried a lot of things to get the ssl certificates in there right.   • Issues Converting Plain Text Into Microsoft Word Bulleted Lists

    I'm a programmer. I hate status reports. I found a way to live with it. While I am working in my IDE ( Visual Slickedit ) I keep a plain text file open in one of the file/buffer tabs. As I finish things I just jot down a quick note into that file. At the end of the week that becomes my weekly status report. Example entries: The Datatables.net plugin runs very slowly in IE 8 with more than 2,000 records. I changed the way I did the server side code to process the data to make less work for the plugin to get decent performance for the IE 8 users. I made a class to wrap data from the new data collection objects into the legacy data holder objects. This will let the new database code be backward compatible with the legacy code until we can replace it. I found the bug reported by Jane. The software is fine. The database we use for the test site has data that is corrupted in a way it wouldn't be for production site At the end of the month I go back to each weekly *.txt file and paste all of the entries into a MS Word file for a monthly report. I give the monthly report to a liason to the contracting company who has to compile everyone's monthly reports into a single MS Word 2007 document. His problem, soon to be my problem, comes when he highlights my paragraphs like the ones above to put bullets in front of my paragraphs. When he highlights my notes to put bullets in front of them with MS Word 2007, Word rearranges the text a bit and the new line chars/carriage returns stagger the text so the text is no longer in neat chunks. It just puts some kind of newline character in anyway. Searching/Replacing those chars in the text files has the result of destroying the paragraphs. Once my notes are pasted into MS Word, Word automatically translates them into paragraph breaks. Searching/Replacing them there has similar results. Blank lines separating the notes disappears. One big mess. What I would like is to be able to keep adding my status notes to a text file as I am now, but do something different when I paste the notes into MS Word such that my liason can select the text, hit the bulleting command and NOT have the staggered text as shown above.   • Apache+LDAP auth on Ubuntu says "Can't contact LDAP server" while ldapsearch is perfect

    Hi Gurus, I'm migrating from an existing apache+LDAP+mysql+php server to a new hardware platform. Old server is running Debian Lenny, which I have no config documentation available (was done by previous sysadmin); New server is running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS 32bit. After installing Apache and configured LDAP client on the new server, ldapsearch to the LDAP master (another dedicated server) returns results just fine. However, when using apache with https, logs complain that "Can't contact LDAP server". I'm authenticating using ldaps and can confirm that 636 port is open on the LDAP master. I can't understand why apache would fail while regular ldapsearch is working!   • Scripting an automated SQLServer 2008 DR move

    Hi All We use the built in logshipping in SQLServer to logship to our DR site but once in a month do a DR test which requires us to move back and forth between our Live and BAckup servers. We run multiple (30) databases on the system so manually backing up the final logs and disabling the jobs is too much work and takes too long. I though no problem, I will script it but have run into trouble with it always complaninig that the final logship is too early to apply even though I dont export the final log until putting the database into norecovery mode. Firstly, does any one no a simple and reliable way of doing this? I have lokoed at some 3rd party software (redgate sqlbackup I think it was) but that didnt make it easy in this situation either. What I want to be able to do is basically run a script (a series of stored procedures) to get me to DR and run another to get me back with no dataloss. My scripts are very simplistic at the moment but here they are: 2 servers Primary Paris Secondary ParisT The StartAgentJobAndWait is a script written by someone else (ta) and just checks the jobs have finished or quits it if it never ends.     I am planning to use inosync to sync data from master server to several client servers. I have created a user called rsyncuser in both master and slaves with access permissions and passwordless ssh access from master to slave servers. Inosync is working when I use it from the command line as rsyncuser. Next I want this to start automatically when server is turned on. I figured upstart is the way to get this working. I am unable to find the right upstart command to get this working. Here is my upstart conf file. The problem seems to be around running "inosync -d -c /etc/inosync/inosync_rsyncuser.py" as a given user.     Trying to avoid SPOFs for Resque and Redis. Ultimately the client is going to be PHP via (https://github.com/chrisboulton/php-resque). After going through and finding some workable HA for nginx+php-fpm and MySQL (mysql master-master setup as a way to simply master-slave promotion), next up is Resque+Redis. Standard install of Resque uses localhost Redis (at DigitalOcean). I am heavily depending on Amazon Route 53 DNS failover to try to solve this. resque1.domain.com points to localhost redis (redis1.domain.com) = same server resque2.domain.com points to localhost redis (redis2.domain.com) = same server Do resque.domain.com with FAILOVER resque1 as primary and resque2 as secondary. What this means is that most of the time (99%), resque1 should be getting hit with resque2 as just a hot backup. This lets me just have to get 2 servers and makes sure that any hits to resque.domain.com goes somewhere The other way to do this is to break out resque and redis into 4 servers and do it as follows resque1.domain.com - redis.domain.com resque2.domain.com - redis.domain.com redis1.domain.com redis2.domain.com Then setup DNS Failover resque.domain.com - primary: resque1 and secondary: resque2 redis.domain.com - primary: redis1 and secondary: redis2 I'd like to get away for 2 servers if I can but is this 2nd setup much better or negligible?     Over the past several days I have been trying to get the shadow to work with samba but haven’t been successful. Can someone check below config and let me know if I am missing something? We are using Equallogic SAN and iSCSI LUNS to mount volumes. I can cleanly access samba shares on Windows 7 clients but just not shadow copy.   • Samba server NETBIOS name not resolving, WINS support not working

    When I try to connect to my CentOS 6.2 x86_64 server's samba shares using address \\REPO (NETBIOS name of REPO), it times out and shows an error; if I do so directly via IP, it works fine. Furthermore, my server does not work correctly as a WINS server despite my samba settings being correct for it (see below for details). If I stop the iptables service, things work properly.   • Email test deferred (mail transport unavailable) with ClamAV

    I'm trying to set up a simple new mail server; when I send a test email to the server the email is getting hung up during delivery (user mapping is found) and the email is never found in /home/user/Maildir/new Here is my maillog after a fresh reboot and test email, there are a few warnings I am unfamiliar with.   • Setting up DNS using VirtualMin/WebMin

    I am moving from a cPanel server to one where I've installed VirtualMin. The LAMP stack and the website files have been setup properly and I can access the website by its IP address. Problem: Now its time to point my domain mydomain.com to my new server. After reading many sites describing setting up bind and master zones, I am pretty confused as to what to do, especially coming from a cPanel server where its really simple to set this up. Attempt Tried to register my nameservers ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com at my domain registrar, but I am missing the IPs I need to point these nameservers to. Should I set ns1.mydomain.com to the IP addres of my web server, and not register ns2.mydomain.com? When specifying the DNS for mydomain.com, the first one I've set it to ns1.apadment.com. On the manager/admin page of my webhost provider, I am given the option to create a secondary slave DNS, which I assigned to the IP address of my server. Though I am not sure how the slave DNS will copy the info from my web server? I have assigned this secondary DNS ns.hostprovider.com as the second DNS for mydomain.com I tried creating a Virtual Server under Virtualmin, but it seems to mess up Apache's DocumentRoot for the site by creating and enabling a new vhost file that ends with .conf. I edited the .conf file to point DocumentRoot back to where its supposed to be /var/www/mydomain instead of /user/mydomain.com I believe the next step is to setup the zone. Virtualmin has already created a Master Zone with 8 different addresses (www.mydomain.com, ftp.mydomain.com...). Under Nameservers, there are already 2 records. One is the hostname (random name given by hostprovider, ns12345.ip123-123.net), the other is the secondary slave DNS provided by the host provider. Does having BIND running on my web server makes the server the master DNS? Thank you!

  • Why doesn't the Windows 7 volume mixer remember per-application levels for all applications?

    If I have the device's master level set to 50, and then lower an application level to 25; Once I close that application and reopen it, the volume levels should persist. The master level should remain at 50 and the application's at 25. This does happen for most applications. However, for one in particular, Napster, it does not. I subscribe to Napster's streaming service. I use the Napster desktop application to connect to that service. Every time that I open the Napster app, I have to adjust the application's volume level down in the volume mixer. When I open the app again after closing it, I have to do the same thing, the volume mixer is not remembering the set level. In fact. The level is reset back to 50, the same level as the device's master level. Has anyone else experienced this, with Napster or any other application? Is there a solution or is this a known issue?

  • Postfix does not work after setting server hostname from plesk

    I have recently set my server hostname from localhost.localdomain to xx.mydomain.com from the plesk control panel. However after doing this change postfix has stopped working, I tried restarting and regenerating the config files but to no avail. I am not familiar with postfix but I believe there is a setting to be changed in main.cf. Here are the relevant errors I receive: postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system postfix/master: daemon started -- version 2.8.4, configuration /etc/postfix postfix/cleanup: fatal: host/service localhost/12768 not found: Name or service not known postfix/pickup: warning: maildrop/E5559996219: error writing 4FA2C996217: queue file write error postfix/master: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/cleanup pid 15334 exit status 1 postfix/master: warning: /usr/libexec/postfix/cleanup: bad command startup -- throttling Any ideas? EDIT Setting it back to localhost.localdomain makes it work again. The only references to localhost/12768 I can find in main.cf are: smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12768 Should something be changed here? These two lines stay the same when I change the hostname. EDIT If I comment out the two mail filter lines (the ones shown above) and restart, postfix works with the new hostname. However this is obviously not the ideal solution...

  • Users database empty after Samba3 to Samba4 migration on different servers

    I have to migrate a Samba 3 to a new Samba 4 server. My problem is that the database on the samba 3 server seems a bit empty. The secrets.dtb file is only 20K whereas the “pbedit -L |wc -l”command give me 16970 lines. On my Samba3 /var/lib/samba is 1,5M After I had migrate the databse (following instructions on http://dev.tranquil.it/index.php/SAMBA_-_Migration_Samba3_Samba4), “pdbedit -L” command on the new server give me only : SAMBA4$, Administrator, dns-samba4, krbtgt and nobody. So I tried to create a VM with a Samba3. I added some users, done the same things I did for the migration and now I can see the users created on the VM. It’s like users on the Samba 3 server are in a sort of cache. I already migrate the /etc/{passwd,shadow,group} files and I can see users with the “getent passwd” command. Any ideas why my users are present when I use pdbedit but the database is so empty ?
